MAC Eyeshadow Swatches: Golds & Yellows
Happy Swatch Saturday! Today, I’m bringing you photos and swatches of five current (permanent!) shades of MAC’s yellow and gold-hued eyeshadows, plus two (somewhat) recently discontinued shades (Bright Sunshine, you will be missed!) Any favorites? Are any of these must-haves for you? What yellows/golds do you wish MAC would make permanent?
MAC Chrome Yellow Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “vivid bright yellow [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium, warm-toned yellow with a matte finish. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Goldenrod Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “bright marigold yellow [with a Satin finish].” It’s a medium-dark, warm-toned yellow with a subtle orange tone and matte finish. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Goldmine Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “intense gold with shimmer.” It’s a medium-dark, yellow-orange gold with a frosted, metallic finish. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Gorgeous Gold Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “muted yellow-gold [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a light-medium, yellow gold with a subtle green tint–the tint can be more or less apparent but tends to come out mostly if paired with cooler-toned shades, otherwise it looks more like a light gold. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Nylon Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “pale gold with icy shimmer.” It’s a light, white gold with a frosted, almost metallic, finish and warm undertones. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
MAC Bright Sunshine Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a vibrant, medium yellow with a frosted finish. It is very much “sunshine yellow.” See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Bonus:
This shade was discontinued, but it was also re-shot and re-swatched during the process (I learned many shades were discontinued in the past two years!), so I’ve included it anyway. 🙂

What’s Swatch Saturday? I can’t always review products with full, in-depth reviews, but sometimes, I can at least give you photos and swatches, and then also provide a link to dupes and comparisons for those interested! This also helps us to build up our Swatch Gallery and add even more entries to The Dupe List, which can be helpful to readers at any point. MAC’s permanent range of eyeshadows seemed like a good place to start (and they were due for an update, this time with photos and swatches)! I looked at the comparison swatches for Goldmine and my eyes immediately went to Gaelic Gold, which, of course, is LE… 🙁
Aww!! 🙁
These are so bright yellow….will give them a try. Thanx for sharing
No prob!
Nylon is one of the eye shadows that I use on a regular basis. It’s my favorite inner corner highlight, but I do use it occasionally on my entire lid.
I love it on the inner corner!
Gorgeous Gold is always more green on me than gold!
It only looks green on me if I apply it next to something else, lol!
Goldenrod is so gorgeous!
It is! More unique, too.
I didn’t realise that Bright Sunshine had been discontinued! Sad, because I really like that shade- definitely one of my favourite yellows. It’s funny, because looking at Gorgeous Gold against your skin, it looks totally different than on me. The green tint always stands out quite a bit on me- the shade doesn’t look like other golds at all.
Me either! I have my shades sorted into permanent palettes… except a TON were discontinued 🙁
Happy to see yellow edition 🙂
my fav and must have shades are
gorgeous gold
goldmine and
bright sunshine
really happy to pick that before it went off the shelf 🙂
wish mac brings back that shade 🙂
Glad you got Bright Sunshine! It’s always been a favorite of mine!
I love goldenrod!
It’s so cheery!
Heads up on goldenrod it will be dc’d this year! Made sure to get a backup.
So many great shades getting the boot!
Goldmine looks really nice, and so does Gorgeous Gold. Not sure how I feel about Chrome Yellow. I wish it was a bit more pigmented.
There are better dupes for Chrome Yellow that have better quality!
Goldenrod is amazing! I don’t have ANY yellow eyeshadows (I have a few golds, naturally), and I feel like this needs to be remedied at some point!
I’m not sure yellow eyeshadow will look at all good on me in any quantity, but for accents to another look it would be very useful 🙂
I’m sure paired with the right complementing shades, you could rock it! 🙂
Love Goldmine and Nylon! I have both and Nylon is one of my favorite brow bone highlight shades. Thank you for the swatches!
No problem! I love Nylon for highlighting!
My gorgeous gold looks a little greener, I even forgot that I have it. Thank you for bringing back all the forgotten mac eyeshadows Christine.
My pleasure! 🙂
these are gorgeous but wearing yellows makes my eyes look tired and sick wah
Have you tried pairing with say bright purples, reds, oranges, pinks?
Oranges and Reds? Yes
Pinks and Purples no! but that’s a good idea!
I used to own Chrome Yellow and it was just awful for me.
I always disliked it – I actually had to purchase it for this post (along with about 20 other permanent eyeshadows), because I had it, didn’t like it, and passed it along years ago.
I always liked Nylon and thought it was pretty.
It’s great on the inner tear duct/corner!
Ohh Goldenrod looks a lot like Burnt Orange, I wonder if they still make that orange, I think it was pro only possibly
I think it’s gone!
I love Chrome Yellow, it would look great on dark skin.
I just wish it was better quality!
Goldenrod and bright yellow are sexy!
Goldenrod <3
Are you sure Bright Sunshine is discontinued? I thought I saw it here: http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/shaded/8679/907/Pro-Products/Eyes/Eye-Shadow-Pro-Palette-Refill-Pan/index.tmpl
Thank you, Lizzie! So odd… I did not see it when I searched “bright sunshine!”
