The Sultry Season: MAC Decorative Lustreglass

MAC Decorative Lustreglass ($14.50 for 0.17 oz.) is a semi-sheer, darkened red-plum with gold, pink, and red shimmer.  It has a thin texture but still delivers some color along with plenty of shimmer and glossiness.

my thoughts on the formula: Lustreglass is thinner and less sticky than MAC’s Lipglsas.  Lustreglass still has a very glass-like shine, though.  It also comes with a brush-type applicator, rather than a sponge-tipped one.  Opacity varies from shade to shade, with some being ultra sheer and others being semi-sheer to semi-opaque.  I get three to four hours of wear with Lustreglass.

  • Product: 26/30

  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

final thoughts: If lipglass is too heavy, thick, or sticky for you, consider trying Lustreglass.  I think MAC’s Lustreglasses are a bit underrated, because they have the same beautiful sparkle and shine of Lipglasses but a thinner texture and are barely tacky.  Decorative works well with both cool and warmer skin tones, though it does pull a bit cool on me.

Did you had any issues with the smell or taste? I remember one time I was trying lustreglass in mac, the color was beautiful but I noticed a very weird burning sensation on my lips.I am not sure if its an ingredient which caused this, but I dont have the same issue with the lipglass. What do you think?

I prefer lustreglass over lipglass! I love them! My favs are pink carat & love nectar. I also get a little bit of a burning sensation too but it only lasts for a little while. Lustreglasses are so underrated, IMO!

Love this color! This is one of the first lustreglasses that I ever bought, and I’ve been buying it again and again ever since. It is a great natural color for me that doesn’t make me look overly made up.

I always wondered what the difference between Lustreglass and Lipglass… Now I know! Thanks. 🙂 I will definitely try some Lustreglass out, the product sounds great, though I doubt I’ll use this particular shade..

MAC’s descriptions are really good – I already explained the difference between lipglass and lustreglass. Dazzleglass is like lipglass, just with glitter and less color. MAC has a lot of glosses, so it is easier for me to answer your question if you ask about something specific 🙂

This will be my next purchase! Thankfully it’s available here. For a second I thought it might be one of those Nordstrom exclusives. But it’s listed at MAC Germany, so all’s good.

I’ve always thought Lustreglasses were underrated, too. Lustreglasses and Lipgelees are probably my favorite MAC lip products. I haven’t found a Lustreglass shade that I don’t like, the texture is great and I prefer the little brush rather than the doe foot applicators. Spring Bean is my absolute favorite. I love that it’s green in the tube, but a really flattering neutral on the lips.

Lustreglasses are a staple in my beauty stash. Love pairing these with lip pencils. I like the brush better than the doe-foot applicator on the Lipglasses. Decorative is one I don’t have yet but I want soon!

Is this anything like Estee Lauder Plum Divine that came out with the holiday collection? In the tube it looks very similar but not quite as much in the lip swatch

lustreglass is very underrated. its my favorite lipgloss formula, i don’t even buy the other mac formulas anymore. also, because most of the collections they put out don’t include lustreglass, i tend to not feed into the collections. my favorite is love nectar 🙂
