So I guess this is the new MAC Face and Body packaging with 1.7oz rather than 4oz.
This time Feline will be mine :)!!
Feline is perm darlin!!
Is that blush under the eyeshadows? Sorry, my brain is on holiday today!
Yep! 🙂
Weird that a specific foundation and concealer color are part of the collection.
Also, where’s the photo of the lipstick?
Oh, that wasn’t meant to be rude to you Christine, I hope it didn’t come off like that.
I was mostly just confused since there was a lipstick mentioned in the press release.
It should be there now 🙂
That was the first thought I had, as well.
That’s what I thought!
That first palette is GORGEOUS!!! The rectangular caramel colour looks like my favorite Shu Uemura shade, a go-to eyeshadow for neutral looks. I actually want this palette and would buy it. (Well, depending on your review.) The problem is that I really despise the asinine Limited Edition/massively limited quantity/over-hyped game that MAC incessantly plays. (And the fact that there is a new L/E collection out almost *every* two weeks doesn’t help!) I would be a lot less nasty about the brand if they stopped it.
Ditto, to *everything*!
Amy, let me ask you something: does that box with the eyelashes look like a box of fishing flies??
Ditto Ditto to everything!
This is the only MAC collaboration I was actually looking forward to. I like the second palette and the nude lipstick. But I’m so not wanting to be suckered in.. again.. I’ve already beaten myself over the head about this very thing.
it really pains me that MAC has hiked their prices so high and are not releasing any out-of-this-world collections.
I switched over to inglot these days. They may not release as many “collections” *ahem*repackagedproducts*ahem* but their prices are much more reasonable and the quality is the same if not better.
The full face kits are calling my name!
I’m only really interested in seeing the palette. Based on the promo shots we’ve seen for this and Marilyn I’m reevaluating my MAC purchases for Fall. I think Nars is going to be where its at, especially if in the future they keep up with the killer collabs.
Very disappointing. The palettes are pretty but nothing so special about it all.
I don’t think I need any more neutrals but Desert Camouflage looks intriguing!
Not interested in any of the products here. I guess this is just not my style at all!
From what I can tell, the eyeshadows look like perm MAC shades that have just been renamed, or at least close enough. I like the nude lipstick, though.
Another collection I was actually looking forward to.. and yet so ‘meh’! I already have an arsenal of these types of colours.. however, a nude lipstick.. you can never have too many!!!
16.50 for a lipstick. lord
Whoa, I didn’t notice that.
I really like the look of the Desert Camoflauge kit! Nothing in the collection is really crazy or earth-shattering, but I do love neutrals and I like the description of that kit. I’m curious to check it out or see it swatched.
I’m interested in the face pallettes, but considering MAC’s track record lately with limited edition items, I won’t purchase without reading your reviews, Christine. If it’s sold out by then, so be it.
I highly doubt this one is selling out. I suspect this collection is going to be available for the better part of the next 6 months or more.
Hi Christine! I noticed the lipstick is 20$ CAD, is that a higher price only for that collection or is it the new price for MAC lipsticks?
Thank you 🙂
It looks like this collection has increased prices across the board because it’s a collaboration (well, that’s their reasoning).
Thank you very much for your answer! I hope it is just for this collection because MAC lipstick are becoming very expensive here in canada for the quality. At 20$, I’d rather spent 5-10$ more and get something like Shiseido or Dior 🙂
Which part of Canada are you from? I’m from Montreal and their prices have gone up to 18$ instead of 17.50$. I remember for the Hey Sailor collection they increased the price due to the packaging.
I am from Sherbrooke (Québec).
Ok then I’m pretty sure they’re going to raise the prices here too. I usually go to the Baie counter and they always give me coupons which also lowers the prices of my purchases. However, usually for lipsticks I always try to do back to Mac. That way I get a free one. 😀
This collection looks nice… but the background of the second photo looks a lot like my senior prom t-shirt.
$18 for a stencil…yeah, sure, that makes sense.
For once, I’d actually like to try the shadows. I love a smoky eye, but I’m TERRIBLE at color coordination. I’ll let my MUAs put them on me and see if they work.
Boring!!!
The star stencil is cute and I like the packaging design with the glossy on matte but otherwise not too bothered. Nice but not too unique
Wow, that was super dull……..
Another mac womp womp WoOMPp!!! Please bring something like petals and peacocks and spiced quad. Good god MAC what’s wrong LOL
Hmmm. I don’t think I’ll be buying anything from this, which is good. Since I have a massive wishlist for their permanent items to get to, so I’m glad this doesn’t get in the way 🙂
I just love this collection, mac back to basics, can’t wait the reviews on the face kits, so pratical, having a great quad of eyeshadows with a bronzes! Love it! The lipstick seems very pretty too!
This and the Marilyn collection are gonna make my wallet so much lighter lol
$18 for a stencil? $16.50 for lipstick or mascara? Even if they knock this out of the park (which, let’s face it, is not likely), MAC is out-pricing themselves. Yuck.
Yeah, all brands increase prices over time, but somehow MAC does it at a faster rate, so they’re really creeping into high-end… but I am not sure they’re quite delivering on the promise of high-end or if people will agree with the shift – without actually seeing an increase in value, whether higher quality, innovative products, or more product for your dollar.
I don’t think I will be keeping buying MAC makeup as I am actually buying it if it keeps increasing like this. For me, MAC is «everyday» makeup. I buy it to use it often, for my everyday life not to treat myself like buying other luxury brands like Dior, Chanel, Shiseido, etc.. MAC, for their quality, just cannot compare with some of those brands. I personnaly think they should stay in that «more expensive and better quality than drugstore but not luxury brand» category, where, honestly, they don’t have much competition!!
It will be interesting to see how MAC handles the transition, because it’s clear that it’s been a direction they’ve wanted to go in (e.g. Dazzleglasses, Cremesheen Glasses, etc. – all smaller quantities at $18+ price points vs. all of their $14+ glosses from before). MAC is a gateway brand (drug…) for a lot of beauty buffs, but if it’s as expensive as NARS, Smashbox, Urban Decay, Stila, etc. then there’s more competition. I think they can compete, but not necessarily at their current level of quality/production.
It’s only THIS lipstick that costs so much, and they are not discounting it for Pro accounts. The palettes do not receive a Pro discount, either, even though the colors consist of some perm collection colors and many dupable colors. They always charge more for “unique” packaging, and they don’t discount if it’s for a charitable cause (Viva Glam), but I don’t get it with this one. I have so many nude lipsticks from MAC, so what’s so special about this one besides the not-so-special tube?
Here in Mexico, MAC has increased its prices at least twice already this year. I bought an eyeshadow in July and when I went for another one in August, the price had gone up a little over a dollar! How unfair is that? If they continue like this, I’ll probably switch to other brands like Nars or Dior – at least the prices will not surprise me!
Seriously? The stencil? You can get a stencil just like it for like a dollar at a craft store… JFC, what is WRONG with Mac lately?!?!
Also, repromoting Blacktrack just seems dumb, it’s one of the brand’s mainstays. And is Feline really limited? I feel like I bought it online not too long ago.
Oh well. Still waiting for the Marilyn Monroe stuff.
This collection excites me, I’ve been waiting for MAC to do the neutral/smokey thing again, seems like the last time I remember it was Smoke Signals in 07!! The eye/face kits appeal to me, even the cremeblend blush is intriguing, I don’t have anything like that in my stash. Smokey eyes, defined brows, pared back cheeks and lips AND they’re promoting my two favourite foundations? I’m keen.
The first MAC collection that I’m lusting over in a while now!! Definitely getting the pallettes!
I like the lipstick tube but that’s it. I’m a MAC lipstick fan and I wish they have added more colours to the collection. Guess I’m not getting any, which is good. 🙂
2 face pallets with beige, taupe, brown, and black eye shadows, and brown blushes. Nothing I don’t already have…
Okay, I have to admit I’m really a sucker for the packaging on this collection, though I’m not sure it’s one I’ll buy anything from despite my affection for the look of the palettes. Smoky eyes are never quite as exciting to do when you have hooded eyes. 😛
It’s Carine Roitfeld, what did you guys expect. That’s basically her look, neutral everything and then mega smoky eye. The Carine train is over now though, but I can see why they couldn’t do this when she was EIC of French Vogue.
If they did a collection with say, Michelle Harper or something, it would be more colorful (like with Iris Apfel and Beth Ditto).
My take: A resounding “…meh.”
I’m skipping this collection. I’m more of a highlight and color eyeshadow person and not the smokey eyeshadow type.
I don’t get why there’s just one skin tone in foundation/concealer etc in the collection? I know they’re all permanent anyway, but why have any at all in a collection if it’s only suitable for one skin tone?? That makes no sense to me at all.
I don’t get the star stencil either…
All I’m interested in are permanent things I needed anyway, like tweezers and lash curlers. At a push I’d get the LE brow pencil, but I wouldn’t rush to a MAC counter for it.
All very very dull tbh! I know it’s her look and it’s what I expected, but I hoped she might put a bit more fire into it too iyswim? Maybe dial it up a bit. It is what it is, but MAC has smoky eyes and nude lips catered for already!
Next!
I thought it was odd to see a single shade promoted… I’m trying to “get” it, but I’m not quite figuring it out.
I’m glad it’s not just me! It seems really weird like we can only use this collection if we look just like her!? No pale skin, no dark skin, just IN THE MIDDLE ONLY! There’s even only one brow shade and one eye liner colour. It’s certainly not for everyone!
I did hope for awesome eyebrow related stuff, but it’s pretty much just stuff that’s in the perm range and that’s it! Very, very disappointing. Those murky dark, depressing colours better have a great formula to make up for it!
The reason that there’s only one shade of foundation or concealers put into displays for new collection launches is just to promote the product. It’s usually a color of skin related to the collection. This was the color of Face & Body and concealer used on her. It’s the same as seeing someone wearing Face & Body and it making you ask what they are wearing and then trying it in your own shade. Really just a way to promote that particular foundation for the time that the collection is on the counters. Of course it’s not saying you have to be this foundation shade or you can’t wear these colors. lol.
Could the single light shade possibly be a comment about the racial conflicts that seem to accompany the Depression? I am not calling her racist at all, but maybe she is calling our attention to the FACT that racist abuses on every scale get worse during economic downturns. So she composes this strange palette of structure-oriented ideas, maybe there is some kind of deeper comment within each of the pieces offered. or not?
1. the single color in recent collections are just re-promotes. some things got reformulated and others got new packaging. nothing due to RACE. you will see this in a few of the collections.
2. the star is her signature look. not just some random star we decided to put in there.
I hope you are going to review this collection for us, Christine, because I am looking forward to see swatches of the quads. I love the Smoke Signals quads so much, that I hope these are competitive.
I just wonder, why they put a cremeblend blush together with powder shadows. That’s a reason for me not to buy the quads.
I thought feline was perm now.
CR is so chic, it’s almost fashion week AND she has a magazine coming out. Good timing on MAC’s part. I like the 2nd palette pictured and hopefully I’ll like it in stores. I wish they had put out a video saying how Carine does her smoky eye with the products because I can buy all this stuff but I’m not going to get that perfect messy smoky eye without an at home tutorial.
I’m not at all familiar with Roitfeld’s work in general, and all I’ve seen of the collection is the nice pics, but I wonder if this is her take on European “austerity”, vis a vis Global Depression. The color palette is rather depression-istic, meaning it harkens back to colors we see in ads or films from the 1930s. The overall drab, dark imagery again speaks of sparseness, or at least minimalism. She is posed in the photos with a very simple looking sheath with easy straps on basically unadorned pale skin. Facial features are sculpted, chiseled, fixed in placed and are not especially comforting to look at. uncertainty, angst, misery of some kind, having fewer choices,it all seems to echo themes that Europeans are probably feeling and hearing a lot these days. The big selection of tools, on the other hand, seems to say clearly “It’s about structure.” Austerity is when you learn to use what you have plenty of, and the TOOLS for art haven’t disappeared. Draw a line. Compose a theme. Find the contours. Color is a luxury that may have to wait for later.
So glad Feline is back, I lost my pencil and was just thinking of finding some sort of replacement.
hey what is the little black box next to the nail laquers and eyelash curler? when i saw ‘eyebrow’ brunette – for a sec i thought it was a repromote of the old mac brow kits…..man i wish those would make a comeback!!!
i believe it is the box for the nail polish
The comments about how expensive the lipstick is are making me giggle. Here in Australia we pay $36 for a MAC lippie and more for collab ones.
On topic – I love the sleekness of the palettes, the colours in the second especially appeal to me and I also don’t get including one shade of foundation etc in the actual collection. Seems odd – why not just leave it out all together. The collection would be large enough as it is.
Off topic but patiently awaiting for Marilyn Monroe collection info. Saw pics on other blogs but not sure of the accuracy.
I love it. I love sooty smokey eyes. Everybody’s so excited for Marilyn… Pfft. I’m all about THIS. I’ll take the kohl smudged former Vogue Paris editor over le played out Monroe. Get thee a Bettie Page collection and then let’s talk :3
