MAC Bloody Brilliant Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Bloody Brilliant Eyeshadow Quad
MAC Bloody Brilliant Eyeshadow Quad ($44.00 for 0.19 oz.) contains three new, limited edition shades and one permanent shade. It’s from the upcoming MAC x Osbournes collaboration collection. Generally, the color payoff across the quad was semi-sheer to semi-opaque, but it’s a softer, subtler look overall. I think fairer complexions will get the most mileage out of this color combination, as there will be more contrast seen, but shades like Fizzy Rose and Tickety Boo get somewhat lost on a medium complexion like mine. I wish it was more true-to-pan in regards to the pigmentation, though the textures of the palette were okay and the shades lasted between seven and eight hours before fading.
Spoonful of Sugar is described as a “sparkling platinum [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a light silver with subtle warmth and a frosted finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff, and the texture was mostly smooth, but it didn’t have the same buttery, creamy feel of other Veluxe Pearls. It wore well for seven hours on me. theBalm #31 (P, $6.50) is lighter. L’Oreal Silver Sky (757) (P, $7.99) is darker. MAC A Waft of Grey #2 (P, $21.00) is cooler-toned. MAC A Party of Pastels #1 (P, $21.00) is lighter, cooler-toned. MAC Platinum Love (LE, $19.50) is lighter, brighter. MAC Silver Screen (LE, $21.00) is cooler-toned. Chanel Infini (P, $28.50) is a touch darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Tickety Boo is described as a “soft muted plum brown [with a Satin finish].” It’s a muted, warm mauve with a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, and the texture was soft but a little powdery/dry in feel. It was easy to blend on the lid, though. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #3 (P) is warmer. Sleek MakeUP Forbidden (P, $9.99) is darker, cooler-toned. Bobbi Brown Amnesia Rose (LE, $22.00) is lighter. Chanel Quadrille #1 (LE) is darker, warmer. Urban Decay Nooner (P, $18.00) is slightly warmer. LORAC Mauve (P) is similar. Chanel Hasard (99) (P, $28.50) is a touch warmer. MAC Blackberry (P, $15.00) is darker, warmer. Illamasqua Forgiveness (LE) is darker, warmer. Guerlain Boulevard du Montparnasse #5 (LE) is slightly cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Fizzy Rose is described as a “pale lilac [with a Satin finish].” It’s a light-medium, subtly cool-toned pink-lavender with a pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, but the texture was soft and not stiff, so at least it was a more workable eyeshadow. It is best patted on, and if you use a base, even better, too maximize the color coverage. This shade lasted seven hours on me before significantly fading. Tom Ford Beauty Lavender Lust #1 (P) is cooler-toned, brighter. Guerlain Attrape-Coeur #4 (LE) is darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Shadowy Lady is described as a “blackened plum [with a Matte finish].” It’s a dark, slightly muted, blackened burgundy with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. I can’t tell you how many versions I’ve tried of this shade–and it is part of the permanent line-up–and how it swatches every which way. Here, in this quad, it had semi-opaque color coverage, though it was somewhat dry, and I found it harder to blend on the lid–it tended to “stick” where it initially landed. It wears almost eight hours, though. theBalm #27 (P, $6.50) is very similar. theBalm Matt Batali (LE, $16.00) is richer. MAC Graphology (DC, $15.00) is darker, richer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I like the colors, I just wish it rated higher.
I wish they were more pigmented!
Maybe you can find LMDB Nouvelle Vague on ebay? You’ll drop a bomb on it, but they’ll be the nicest eyeshadows you own. The color way is very very similar (but the quality and size differences are enormous).
Anyways, just throwing that out there. 🙂

I wish they would have put more variety in the quads, it’s not very unique!
I think if they swapped out Spoonful of Sugar for something else, it would have worked better!
This is gorgeous, but I want it JUST for the name! 😛
Aww!
I don´t care for the eyeshadows, but I love the name of the quad! 😀
The name is fun!
Wish this rated a little better.. already have shadowy lady, but weird..this one looks totally brown and mine is definitely more of a cooler brown almost deep purple. I’m on the fence, but may have to pick this up.
Shadowy Lady’s tones seem to be dependent on the texture of the shadow, too, because it is ALL over the map – sometimes it is almost warm/brown, other times almost purple!
I like it, is subtle and wearable. Thank you Christine.
No problem, Fabiola! xo
This palette is pretty. Shadow lady remind me the one in Guerlain Écrin 6 couleur palette in Rue de Passy.
I can see some similarity!
I wish Fizzy Rose was more pigmented. A dusky rose is on my list of things to find!
Me too! I love this type of shade.
I wish it rated higher… 🙁 BUT IT’S SO PRETTY!!!!!!
Aww! 🙁
I will be passing on this quad… Purged three very similar ones already! I’m more interested to see the swatches from Sharon’s quad, maybe I will get that one.
Also, I have a Shadowy Lady from 10 years ago, maybe older, and it is perfect. One of those eye shadows that is super blendable and almost 100% pigment. Too bad quality has gone downhill over the years.
I have noticed that the quality of eyeshadows from 10, 5, and now differ – and not always better because it was older, lol!
I know it lost a lot of points for lack of pigmentation, but I love sheer and soft eye looks so this might be the palette for me! It looks really feminine and delicate.
Hey, if you want sheer, go for it! 🙂 There’s nothing wrong with preferring a sheer look OR sheer eyeshadows, just as long a brand makes it clear that’s what you’re getting!
I love the colors but I believe $44 for 4 colors is way to expensive and overpriced!
It is pricey! You can get a lot of other palettes at that price point with more shades.
Thanks for such speedy reviews on these. Too bad about the pigmentation being so iffy! With a world of interesting purples out there, I think I have far too many dupes of these. Too bad because it really looks nice in the lilac SE packaging. But eep, the pigmentation! Looks like they’d catch too much.
Not surprised you have dupes, Celia!
It’s a pretty quad, and the rating is actually GOOD compared to what you’ve normally been giving them lately (and those ratings were justified), but I think I’ll pass. I can get those shades from the LORAC Pro Palette and other shadows I have.
And why pay $44 for something that isn’t pretty good?!
I like Fizzy Rose the best, I think! I’m definitely a complexion where these will show up (except for Spoonful of Sugar perhaps, LOL!), and the palette is pretty, but I might have hoped for a bit more ‘punch’ from Kelly Osbourne 😉 Either that or I’m just a bit ‘neutral-ed out’ at the moment 😛
I was thinking the quad was softer in color/appearance with the bolder lips!
I don’t understand why MAC pulled of just pale and neutral colours for this Summer..just Playland collection has bright colours in it..
Have*
Maybe something different for summer? Unexpected?
🙁 But, it’s such a pretty quad in the pan.
I definitely had my eye on this quad, but reading your review I know this would not show up on my NC45 skin. Had it been more pigmented I may have had a shot.
Who knows? Maybe I’ll give it a shot with a nice eyeshadow base. If it doesn’t work out, I can always return it.
Let me know if you try it!
I really like the look of Fizzy Rose! I need to find a dupe for it. I don’t need the entire quad
Fingers crossed you can find one, Fancie!
Packaging is cute but for the most part the colors are a disapointment. Wish you could get these in singles! I’d pickup tickety boo in a second.
If only! 🙁
I would have bought it… but it won’t show on my olive skin 🙁 it’s a shame they’re not pigmented enough.
Aww 🙁
Fizzy Rose looks like a gorgeous color but the pigmentation isn’t the best. Overall quite disappointed with a few of these eyeshadows. Thanks for the review!
I love that type of shade, but it needs more pigment!
I try to stay reasonably nice on comments or at least fair. But I absolutely hate the names in this collection. They are so…ice…and not cutsey at all. I don’t watch the Osbornes but would guess that there is a Brit in the bunch…and wow will they play that up.
Boring. Dumb names. Total pass. Sorry!
They are all British, I do believe.
Ug.. I was hoping this would be better.
Me too!
do you think this quad is something to just pass on it?
I would, but I wouldn’t settle for this type of quality at $44 for dupable colors.
I love these colors! But I already have the Naked 3 and I’m afraid that these colors might be too similar to the shadows in that palette :/
I think you can pass if you have N3!
I was hoping this could be a go to soft smokey eye palette. The packing is so cute, and kinda barbieesque. I think the shadows could be workable, but the pigmentation is not as good as I’d hoped.
Think you’ll still be trying it, Bronwyn?
I love Tickety Boo! If only there was a lip color to match it! Btw I think Tickety Boo and Fizzy Rose are mislabeled on the picture section of this post.
Fixed!
Love the name of the quad and packaging but they don’t perform well enough to make me wanna buy it, the shadows are pretty dupeable too, I think there are better alternatives for the price point
I agree – lots of options at $44~!
I so wanted these.. wish shadowy lady wasn’t there though!! Never was fond of that shade..
It’s a total hit or miss shade!
Fizzy Rose is such a gorgeous shade! I love the look of this quad 🙂
Will you be buying it, Carly?
I really like it but I’m afraid it won’t suit my NC45 bronzed skintone! Still nice tough!!
Probably not 🙁
Wonder if the Osbournes/MAC took the name from John Cleese as Basil Fawlty in the classic Britcom Fawlty Towers? Basil said this ALL THE TIME; I can’t hear it or say it without his delivery. For me, FT is like Rocky Horror. I know almost all the lines, but at least I don’t dress like Sibyl, the ‘flying tart’ proprietress of the hotel. I could never do that hair.
This palette is pretty, but pretty dupable (but not so much as Sharon’s) + seems aimed at newer youngish collectors.
This is a comment to be filed under ‘pretty obvious.’ It’s nice to have the dupes/swatches, just in case you have TOO MUCH STUFF + didn’t necessarily think to put your not-presented-combined into a look. I think I tend to stay within a brand for e/s looks, e.g. all UD with nooner or basics for crease, all Tarte, all Nars, or all MUG, etc. That’s your advantage for grouping by color. So many of my NARS are depotted + replaced in Z, but I hate to lose the original associations, concepts, and their individual names, so they go in by original association. Makeup driven by semantics, now that’s speech pathology in action! Also, lose the names + you might unwittingly buy too many dupes.
I like to keep stuff separated by brands, just because it’s easier to remember the names!
These aren’t the sort of colors I typically go for, but I really like this quad. I know Fizzy Rose was only rated a C, but I love it!
I like the color of Fizzy Rose – wish it was higher quality though!
I love the english style names and colours. If this quad is what Kelly is wearing in the promo photo then I will definitely get this!
I would hope it is, lol!
This quad is much prettier than Sharon’s, but the price is a turn-off 🙁
Typical for MAC special packaged quads, unfortunately!
I REALLY want this, i love the colors, specially because this got fairly good ratings and i trust you Christine (this limited edition quads are usually pretty dissapointing right?)
BUT limited edition stuff pretty much never gets to Mac’s Mexico strores 🙁 (at least not in my city)
and i can’t find any american website that ships Mac to Mexico :/
This is why it’s so hard to live here being a makeup lover 🙁
They are often less impressive 🙁 Sometimes they’re nice, sometimes they’re REALLY bad, though.
I like it, but it’s too easily dupable for me.
It is that!
Love this colors! And I can’t wear purple!!! :(.
Aww!
This is a pretty palette – great for spring and summer!
It is very spring-y!
Oh man, I was totally excited about this quad….but that rating isnt high enough to get $44 out of me….I’d really only be paying for the packaging and names and I do that quite enough already! Thanks for the great review, as always!
No problem, Guin! xo
If the eyeshadows in this quad were more unique and pigmented, I would consider getting this. I love the packaging but I still dont want to fish out $44 dollars on a quad with mediocre eyeshadows that will just sit around and never be used. I’ll wait for a well thought out quad that deserves the high price.
I agree — $44 is not “let’s settle” money!
I tried this on in store and despite the reviews the shades all turned up on me and my mom, i’m nc15-20 in mac and she nw-40 so maybe i got a good batch? Really pretty quad and I don’t have a ton of purple shadows so im really liking all the looks i’m getting. Thanks for your reviews they’re really helpful when i’m indulging in my makeup addiction lol
So glad it’s working well for you and your mom, Paige!
