MAC Fall Colour: Angel Flame Eyeshadow Quad

MAC Angel Flame Eyeshadow Quad ($38.00 for 0.20 oz.) is one of two quads from the MAC Fall Colour Collection, which debuts in North America on September 29th, 2011 and will roll out internationall in October. Angel Flame includes these shades: Chamomile (creamy pale yellow), Angel Flame (coral that flashes pink/yellow), Feather Pink (mid-tone pink), and Gravel (blue-grey).

  • Chamomile is a soft yellowed white-beige with a satin finish. It has a less frosted finish compared to MAC Short Shorts and is also a touch less yellow. Urban Decay Zephyr is whiter and more frosted. Inglot #395 is a touch more orange and metallic in finish. The texture is lovely–very soft and smooth while delivering excellent color payoff.
  • Angel Flame is a softened peachy-orange with golden peach shimmer-sheen. It has a frost finish. It’s like a slightly softer version of MAC Melon Pigment. Inglot #407 is much more intense. It’s also similar to Make Up For Ever #153. It’s pinker than MAC Flip. It’s a tiny bit powdery and sheered out but overall pretty good in texture and payoff.
  • Feather Pink is a cool-toned, blue-based cotton candy pink with a satin finish. Inglot #319 is the closest dupe I could think of, though it is lighter. I want to say it is similar to MAC Push-up Pink, which is very, very old (2004).
  • Gravel is a blue-tinted gray-black with a matte finish. It was a litte dry and sheer when swatched, but it applied beautifully on the lid, as many MAC matte eyeshadows often do. Inglot #376 is a bit similar but almost looks a touch purple.

The whole time I was photographing this, I felt like it looked familiar. It is reminiscent of the overall color scheme of the Fafi Eyes 2 Eyeshadow Quad, though I wouldn’t say they’re dupes but there are a few similarities (pale highlight, medium pink, bluish-gray-black). It also bears some similarity to MAC A Rose is a Rose Eyeshadow Quad; sort of like a frostier, slightly darker variation on it.

I like the quad overall, and honestly, after the past few palettes I’ve seen from MAC launches, I’m also relieved: the quality is much better here than it has been recently. It’s a solid quad overall with good quality and an interesting mix of colors.

I love Angel Flame [the actual eyeshadow, not the quad as a whole] so much… wish we could just get the individual shade, because the other colors don’t interest me.

Haha, I checked out all of the dupes that you suggested in your post, and for some reason, I just prefer this one. xD Maybe it’s the fact that it’s a little powdery is what makes me like it so much.. the other shadows and pigments seem to have such an intense shimmer, and I just like how much more subdued it seems here. Thank you so much for all the suggestions, they really do help. 😀

😮

I went to try this as soon as I read your post, and I swatched a shimmery shade on my arm twice, patted a little beige on one swatch, and suddenly the shimmery shade became satin- like. Perfect. Maybe I will get one of the dupes now.

Thank you so much for that tip Christine! 😀

The whole time I was looking at the colors I was going “dont I have a similar quad like this” Then when you said Fafi Eyes II It all came back to me lol. I loved that quad, but hated the color pay off. Maybe I will invest in this one. Actually, now that I look at it more, it looks like a franken-palette of fafi I and fafi II.

This is really pretty, but I do have Rose is a Rose so I would skip it. I love the look you did there! But didn’t you just tell us Rich Purple is not waterline safe? ;-P (I tease…I think it’s not, but I don’t care and use mine on the waterline all the time.)

Christine Avatar

Haha, yes, I actually mentioned that in the Chromagraphic Pencil review I didn’t realize it was and had recently used it that way – it’s SO easy to forget sometimes 🙂 I wouldn’t have thought it wasn’t waterline safe – I know that all the SUPER bright shades have the most restrictions (especially pink/red). At least it didn’t have any ill effects for me!

Joyce Avatar

I don’t care if it’s not eye safe and if my eyes starts swelling up, at least I’ll be looking hot with Rich Purple on my waterline. Kidding, LOL! but Rich Purple does really look awesome on your waterline!

I feel like angel flame swatches similar to UD’s “Flow” from the 15th Anniversary palette. They look much different in the pics, but I know that “Flow” is very peach, and Angel Flame seems to be swatching quite similarly

The Feather Pink shade is a bit lighter and less mauve-y than Pushup Pink….will see if I can get a photo when I get home, if you like, for comparison’s sake since I still have it!

If only Angel Flame is released as a single. Love the subtlety of that shade.

Like you, I haven’t seen a nice eyeshadow quad from MAC in a while. Well, the past few weren’t really that nice actually.

But this one is quite pretty!

I just swatched the collection today and really liked this palette. The MSFs are outstanding!! Some real winners in this collection. I also learned that Cindy Sherman is no longer associated with the collection and all of her pictures will be excluded! Should be interesting to see what they do!

Omg this is so gorgeous! I’m buying it mainly for the pink – so beautiful, and cool toned too 😀 I have a slightly cool toned porcelain skintone, so it’s kinda hard to find a pretty pink. Reddish pinks would just look bad on me I think. Is that pink (Feather Pink) pigmented Christine? I hope it shows up better than the one in the Quite Cute quad. 🙂

There is a throwback here to the wonderful Nars duo – Heaven. This quad certainly looks like a winner to me. Actually, super colours for the over _______ crowd. These shades brighten the eye area and are quite youthful.

Veronica Avatar

Oh wow, Angel Flame is lovely. I’d hope to someday see a similar shade get an individual release. It’s a nice and interesting set of colors, over all, though I’m not if I’d use it enough to justify buying it.

That’s a great look you created with it, though! Very pretty. 🙂

this quad almost reminds me of caviar dreams. but i had bought caviar dreams and the colors were soooo hard to apply. just chalky and so pale. none of those problems with this quad?

Nellie Avatar

I like the look of these colors, but I already have Chamomile from when it was released in Warm & Cozy and I try not to buy premade quads if I already any of the colors. Oh well, money saved!

Brenda Avatar

I tried this out today – haven’t left the house yet but I’m going to soon!! We’ll see how the girls at work like it :S

The most difficult colour to dupe for me was the pink – I don’t have either dupes mentioned and wondered if anyone had any other suggestions? I made do with what I had but it’s not bright enough for what I had hoped.

PS – Agatha Pink (Kat Von D) works well as a sub for Angel Flame!

i like this palette it’s not unique or stuning but that kind of natural tones can be used by anyone so it wouldn’t hurt to have them 🙂 i also really suprized to see M.A.C can be able to produce a pink shade which has a good pigmentation and color payoff.
