I was just daydreaming yesterday about how j could achieve plaid on my lids for a party next week. I’m fated to own this collection.

Carmen Avatar

Jojo,
I must tell you that two of my fantasy “boyfriends” are Scottish: Gerard Butler and Kevin McKidd. These are my dream men!
If you haven’t been to Scotland, you must go. Lovely country, and the people are very nice. Visit Edinburgh – a beautiful city.
I can’t wait for this collection!

Stephanie, 17 Avatar

I’m 100% Scottish! Live on a beautiful island just off the West coast called Bute where the designer Stella McCartney married! Been a highland dancer all my life, and it’s wonderful to see the tartan in the collection. Alba Gu Brath!!

Bronzilla Avatar

My husband’s Scots-Irish so maybe he’ll be willing to let me splurge a bit on this collection… 🙂 Can’t wait to see colors, though I fear that due to the theme it may suit the fairer lasses more than me.

Judy Avatar

Wow. This looks like a very interesting collection as well. Damn you MAC!!! For goodness sakes. Can you please relax a bit for me? I am going broke. I have three collections that I know I am definitely buying from: In the Groove, Fabulous Felines, Dinsey Venomous Villains and now this one. Looking forward to some interesting colors. Can’t wait for more info. Thank you Christine!

Dia Avatar

I’m excited for the Nail Trends collex, but I’m even more excited for this!! Since it’s a holiday collection, it’ll probably be big with something for everyone. Or, knowing MAC, several things for everyone. 😉 And the special packaging is bound to be adorable to the max!

leslie Avatar

amen to that 😀 haha i have too many things from mac that i only bought because of the packaging. not again! but this looks like yet another great collection cant wait to see the products

Becca Avatar

Oooh tartan sounds cool a Scottish kind of theme…sounds neat-o.
I hope it is boring though so I don’t have to buy it haha.

Kat Avatar

Hmmm…the packaging looks to be awesome, but I don’t know. But I’ve liked past MAC holiday collections, so hopefully this lives up to them.

Catherine Avatar

since it’s holiday… i’m predicting a lot of red and green plaid in the packaging!! although red/black would be cute and festive too!

Claire Avatar

my college mascot is “the tartans”… strange I know… a mascot that is a pattern… but that makes me sooooo pumped for this collection!

Dini Avatar

That seems like an odd holiday theme. I hope the colors in the collection get as much attention as I’m thinking they will put into the packaging.

Wendy M. Avatar

Well, looking at the promo picture, maybe we’d be getting great red lipsticks and eyeshadows in that dark blue and yellow? I know there’s Chrome Yellow eyeshadow, but maybe this one would be a Veluxe Pearl? lol just throwing ideas out there. 😛

Leenie Avatar

I’ll have to wait to give my opinion on this collection, I have to see the colors in person or when you put up swatches of them, you do such a good job on your lighten when taking the pictures thanks Christine.

Anitacska Avatar

Lol, I find it so funny you are all so excited when all you’ve seen is a tiny picture of a model wearing some tartan clothes! 🙂

I will only have an opinion on this once I’ve seen at least some product pictures, preferably swatches!

Rosa Napoleon Avatar

I this this collection is going to be awesome. Last year I really enjoyed their holiday collection mainly because I so new the MAC, so I got all the quads, which I so love. I hope this collection have some quads.

Halo Avatar

MAC i continue to love/hate you everytime i think ive got enough money saved for a collection you pull out another one!!!!!!!!

Judy Avatar

Oh boy! Here we go again. A Tartan Tale (Chapters 1 & 2)? I can’t wait to see what this holiday collection will consist of.

Tabitha Avatar

Holy Scot! This sounds amazing. I’m hoping for a few plaid lipsticks. You know a bunch of interesting colors in plaid style so that outcome color will be unique & different. Hoping same with blush. No word yet on the names/colors of these items? Damn you mac!

emily Avatar

hey christine, i spoke to someone from mac today… i know that the alice + olivia pigment in later will be re-released in this collection…. yay! seeing as it pretty much sold out on the pre order (missed out damn!!)
can you tell me what else is coming out in this collection???

Margarett Avatar

After the Villains collection I will be broke. 🙁 Glad there will be a month in between it and the XMas Collection.

I hope it is better than 2008 & 2009 Holiday collections. Those both disappointed me.

Kim-Mary Avatar

Holy crap! What a beautiful sounding collection this is. I want everything mentioned so far: Dazzleglass Cream- Radiant Jewels, Soft Dazzle, Gone Romancin’, Passing Fancy, Lightly Prancing
Lipstick- Cut a Caper, Deepest Wish, The Faerie Glen, Courting Lilac, Full Fuschia
Pigment- Later, The Family Crest, Moonlight Night
Powder Blush- Her Blooming Cheek, My Highland Honey

I’m curious what color The Faerie Glen, Deepest Wish and Cut a Caper lispticks will be?

Chloe Avatar

i am hoping for greens( sassy grass ?) blues (zingy?) and reddy pink eyeshadow for this collection and a blush that will help give a frost bitten look for the chilly months

Sarah Avatar

im new to this, and might not want to find out….how much do you think this collection will cost? i want more makeup haha and i loooove the holiday season<33

Lizzy Avatar

Scots refer to themselves as… Scots. Scottish is just territory and food. It’s a Scots plaid and a Scots woman.

Celts are a people who dominated most of Northern Europe for millenia. It’s also a whole outlook on the world that the Romish christians did their darndest to eradicate, i.e. women were clan leaders and owned property. That’s where the burning alive thing started. Ireland was a last hold out for said people; The Black Irish are the last of the breed as genetic grouping. Dark hair, pale skin, blue undertones.

If you want to claim kinship, know what it is and what it’s called, OK?

Solstice, later Christmas, was a time for tucking in for brutal winters. Wearing tartan, made of wool. And like most nights around fires it was a time for telling stories, most of the product names I’ve seen refer to the modern scraps of Celtic spiritual lore. So this is very appropriate for Holiday and about the dominant culture of Europe for most of it’s history. Not just plaid!

Here’s hoping for prettier eye pallets than last years’ plastic jewel. I love those things! And I have a list of people who need a decent smoky eye set, so I’m wishing my for my shopping to be easy…

And for pity’s sake MAC- Queen’s Sin! Please! It fits in well enough with Boudica. And if you don’t know who she was you should. Wiki her. You want fierce, I give you one of history’s great generals. A Celtic Woman.

HH Avatar

How can you make such a vast political statement here but then throw around phrases like “black irish”? That’s insulting.

“Black Irish” is a relatively racist term to describe someone of Irish descent with dark hair or darker features who was believed to have descended from Spain. HOwever, this was proven to be a huge myth, as the majority of Ireland’s population is brown-haired. 🙂 There is no such thing as black Irish. Genetic studies have been done and there is no difference between an irish person with dark hair or one with lighter hair. It’s ridiculous that people are still using these terms. Please put a stop to it.

Also, the Celts did not dominate Northern Europe. They dominated the north western part of what is now collectively known as the British isles…but you’re forgetting the vikings, teutons, visigoths, and other tribes that lived in other parts of europe in the north as well.

I appreciate that you’re trying to clear up some common misconceptions, but please try not to inadvertently spread other misconceptions as well. 🙂

Jane Avatar

There’s a preview of two pigments on the Tartan Tale forum on specktra.net. Also, the blush “Her Blooming Cheek” is a very bright pink, and “My Highland Honey” blush is a peach shade. And apparently they’ll be selling a story book, and everything is tartan – including the brush bags.

A photo of the lipstick “The Faerie Glen” was found on a Vogue UK site (http://cdni.condenast.co.uk/426×639/a_c/Beauty_WK_1.jpg)

Cheyenne Avatar

Oh yeah…I’ve never been able to get any of these sets that come around that time. How much do the brush sets typically cost?? >.< I know you don't have the information yet, but maybe an estimate 😀 since I'm a Mac newb still

Crystal S. Avatar

This is the first time that packaging might play a role in what I buy…I am mega excited about this collection.

On a side note, why do people keep buying these mini brush kits. The quality is comically bad

Sharon Avatar

I’m not really feeling the plaid, but I want the brush sets and eyeshadow palettes, as long as the handles are made from plastic like last year!

Dawn Avatar

I’m loving the brush sets, but that’s about it so far. The eyeshadow sets look very bland and dull for a holiday collection. I’m looking forward to seeing the whole collection when more info comes available and hopefully there will be more to excite me!

Lily Avatar

Oh, my god. This is the hugest collection ever. How I am supposed to get enough money to get all of this?
UGH. THIS SUCKS. BUT I LOVE THE COLLECTION.

KC Avatar

MAC you slay me! Those brush sets bags are on! The six colour eyeshadows look great, the little sets look great for gifts. Okay I am done after villians. Got to save for this one.

Mary Avatar

Great colour story 🙂 I’m looking forward to new pigments, must have it 😉

Does anybody knows in what language is the original post in the source ?

Amanda Enn Avatar

I’m not really loving the packaging so much, but I definitely want to get an eyeshadow palette (: I’m looking forward to the holiday collection in November!

Pia Avatar

I’m more of a Nars junkie but in honor of my love for the Outlander series (with Kevin McKidd in the lead) I may set aside some shelf space for this collection. It could be a lovely start to a potential Mac addiction. YAY!

karigold Avatar

Oh, the Scot in me is so exicited!! I will need to get at least one of the packages with the blue/green tartan… similar to the Johnston tartan(my maiden name)

Aleksandra Avatar

I LOVE THIS COLLECTION!!! OMG!!! I DIED AND WENT TO EHAVEN RIGHT NOW AND ITS FILLED WITH THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIRST YEAR WITH THE HOLIDAY COLLECTIONS AND IM FREAKING OUT!!! THE FACT WE GET LIKE A PAINT POT, A MINERALIZED EYESHADOW AND LIPGLASS AND MASCARA OMFG. I WILL KILL FOR THIS!!!

Melissa Avatar

Love the packaging. Can’t wait to see all of the colors in the pigment and lipglass sets as well as the eyeshadows. I’m making my list as soon as you update with more info. Thanks, Christine!

Cherokee Avatar

Nice, looks very pretty. Can’t wait for more info. I always wanted to get the travel set brushes even though they aren’t hand made. Thanks Christine.

Nessa Avatar

that makes me sad..:( i was hoping to buy the brushes this time b/c i didn’t buy them last year and I regretted not buying for a whole year but this info makes me think twice about buying the brushes..:/

Laurie Avatar

I am completely unsure of how i feel about this collection! BUT–I know I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the eyeshadow palettes COME with a little brush??! When have high enders ever come with a little brush, or even worse the dreaded sponge-tipped applicators??

Katharine Avatar

I was shocked too! Actually that is one way to spot MAC fakes – the fake products generally come with small brushes or sponge applicators. I know people who work for mac and they have always said this is something MAC would NEVER do because the small brushes are just crap. I guess they are trying to attract a wider market base with these?
High end sets have come with brush/sponge applicators – If you class ‘high end’ as non-supermarket/pharmacy brands, like Clinique (who have always supplied brushes), and I’m sure Chanel, Lancome, et al have supplied brushes too.

Lisa Avatar

I got a mini 139 brush (stated as that on the reverse of the palette) with one of last year’s palettes – Directly from the MAC UK website so it was a genuine product.

Jo Avatar

Oh God! I am in love!!! It all looks beautiful and I’m still trying to not let myself buy one of the new Guerlain eye palettes…I feel like I will just break and buy everything >.< I know I am looking at an eye palette here and at least a lipglass set or one of the lipstick/lipglass pouches. I know this isn't considered a lot by lots of the people here, but I'm a student that has been sucked into good high end make up!!
I love the warmth in the colours used for the packaging. Last year's was beautiful, but the pattern was a lot more simple and the colors a lot cooler I feel.

Marjolijn Avatar

I LOVE IT! I want so many things, I think my wallet will be pretty empty once this collection has launched, hahahahaha! I’m already thinking about scheduling my working hours around the launch date/time so can get in early and get everything I want 😀
I especially love those zipper bags with lip products, brushes and eye kit inside, they’re so pretty! Thank you for sharing this Christine!

Ty Avatar

From reading comments on different posts I get the idea that the brushes that come in groups are usually not as good as the full-size brushes. Is that true in our opinion?

Christine Avatar

I would say that at some point, they seemed like a decent way to get MAC brushes without breaking the bank, but over the years, I do feel the quality has lessened. The brush sets have always been machine-made (that I know of), whereas the full-size brushes are handmade. I wouldn’t recommend the brush sets overall — I’d either go with another brand’s brushes for something to hold you over until you can afford MAC brushes and buy the MAC brushes (which I think are excellent) as you can afford them.

I also think that they often throw in brushes that you’ll very rarely use, so you may find yourself really only using maybe 2 of the brushes from the set.

rm Avatar

So I’m not the only one who thinks the quality has gone down! I have a set from 2007 I think (gold handles), and they’re quite good. I thought I’d get some more from the Nordstrom exclusive sets this year, but when I went to check them out, they felt horrible and nothing like the set I already have. It’s a shame because I hate using brushes with long handles so I probably won’t ever want to buy MAC brushes.

Angel Avatar

OMGHOLYSKALFJISJMCLKFNEOFJLSIFEF THAT PACKAGING IS SO CUTE<3
i already knew i'd get some of the stuff from this collection, but now i think i want everything lol.

Jaqueline Avatar

I was thinking exactly the same thing too. Will wait until it acatually comes out or watch a review on You Tube before I decide to buy any.

emmaline Avatar

I thought Hogwarts as soon as I saw the plaid with the crests. The blue reminds me of Ravenclaw.

Cute collection, but I will wait for swatches.

JayJay Avatar

Wow, the packaging is gorgeous!!! I wish you could buy the wristlets without the brushes hahaha. I’ll have to wait until the information is released before I decide, because as gorgeous as it all is, I can’t buy it for the package alone, and don’t want to end up with a bunch of doubles.

Dee Avatar

oh my, i am inlove with everything in this collection. i am not really a fond of lipsticks/lipgloss, but this collection just bought me. the palettes are to die for. time to save up 🙂

Vonvon Avatar

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!!

I can’t believe my eyes that I am actually staring at this collection right now! The bag for the brushes – I WANT!!! The bag for the lippies – I WANT!!!!!!

I want everything!!!!!!

kushani Avatar

man this just sucks i was doing so well convincing myself that mac was full of crap for being so expensive (they aren’t but i was doing so well with the convincing) and now this!!! :(:(:(

Storm Avatar

Look at the pretties! Oh, I’m so glad I’m ok skipping Venomous Villains…I’m just so *un excited* about that launch. I’ll stop by the counter the day it hits, but..eh…it doesn’t *speak* to me like the pretty plaid packaging and all the lovelies do.

Ginnia Avatar

Omgooodness it’s beautiful! I want that mascara/pigment/gel liner/brush set (brilliant) and one of the lipgloss/lip stick sets.

Are those tins ya think for the pigment sets and things?

Nastassia Avatar

how much does the lip gloss and pigments mini collection usually go for.. thats all im really exicted for! ohh yeah how much would the mini set with the mascara, lipgloss, paint pot, and eyeshadow be. i know you probality dont know much, but an estmate would be awesome

THANKSS 🙂

OMG OGG i just had a makupgasm! i totally want everything now. i just LOVE the packaging. i love how everything is a diff color. i wish mac was more creative w/ the felines and disney collection when it came to packaging like they did w/ this collection. i havent been this excited for a collection since hello kitty, and to the beach. i cant wait for more color info on whats in these beautiful items. thanx christine. i think this may be the first collection i may get all the compact e/s. i wonder what paintpot, pigment and blushes their gopnna have.

Michelle Thao Avatar

looks great! don’t know if i will get them or just wait for them to hit the cco. will definitely have to take a look although don’t think i will buy since i got to save money for my uk trip at the end of the year. maybe it’s a sign though, lol, since i will be spending a day in edinburgh!

Amy Avatar

The brushes seem all the same from last year’s holiday collection, as far as one or two eyeshadow palette… is it meant to be that way? To just change the packaging ad recycle some of the products?

Leea Avatar

Wahh I really want to get either a pigment or a lipgloss set this year, I missed out on them last year 🙁
But I’m scared that if I get the pigment set I won’t use them as much and I’m not good at pressing them into pan form and I dont really use lipgloss that much either. But I’ll probably get pink lipgloss set to try ’em out 🙂

Jami Avatar

OMG I want it all!!!! And they have cut scottish bags!!!!!!! I’m very much into my scottish heritage so I’m very excited and happy that mac made this collection!!!!

nicci Avatar

I don’t mean to offend but the packaging, especially the ones that come in a little purse? look rather cheap to me…I don’t know if it is the plaid or the corner with the black pattern w/the little silver studs, or the big fake gold emblem w/the MAC…or just all together does’t really look sophisticated.

Anne-Sophie Avatar

Hi Christine!
I have a big question for you, and you must have answered to it at least a thousand times, but I’m a new follower of your Youtube Channel, so I need to know :

I’ve seen in some comments that all the collections samples you got were provided by press events. How do you get on MAC’s press events lists? I mean, how do we get to go to these places where they present you their collection, give samples, and everything? Do we need to have a special status in the company?

Thanks!

YUK! Gaudy & their color palettes are BLAH! Every year their eyeshadow holiday palettes are just a little off from the year b4, but the same colors. I could care less about packaging, it’s what’s inside that counts and this is a YAWN.

MsG Avatar

OMG! I have been waiting for this collection for soooooo long! I LOVE THE PACKAGING! I passed up all the collections after “In The Groove” – where I picked up only 3 things (Petticoat, Stereo Rose and Happy Together)! I just wish MAC would put a break on the frequency with which they release new collection! Its hard on the pocket, trying to keep up! *sigh*

Sophia Avatar

dang mac got to stop coming out with collection like anything two weeks or so cause i want A LOT of stuff. ahh they’re gonna make me go moneyless.

Karin Avatar

AHH! so gorgeous! since i’m a sucker for lip stuff, i DYING to get one of the lipstick & gloss bag things! SO cute! how will i decide which one?!

Mia Avatar

Tartan…really?!?!

It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s very old english school girl outfit stylish, but for Christmas…really?!!? You had to go for Tartan, Mac? Srsly?

At least the pallettes look good. =P

Emy Avatar

Am I the only one feeling a tiny little bit cheated by the palettes?
They’re squared, I mean, no depotting-repotting.. Yet, you get more colours.. I’m waiting to see the prices..

Eliza Avatar

Christine-

I’d like to thank you for running this blog and maintaining it perfectly. I love coming on here and finding out new collections, etc.

This is my first holiday for MAC, and since I’m fairly new to the whole prospect of makeup, I was wondering if there was anything you would recommend from this collection for me. I know it’s a bit too soon to tell, but I wanted to know what you would recommend according to the pictures. Thanks so much!

Christine Avatar

Thank you, Eliza!

In all honesty… it depends on the quality. Some palettes have been great, many have been not so great. I don’t recommend the brushes. My favorite part is probably the sets – the mini lipglasses, pigments, etc. Those are usually the best value, just because you get to try out several shades at once!

Mina Avatar

the brush collection is what i’m eyeing!!

i was just thinking of buying some of those brushes seperately but now that i see they’re coming out with ALL the brushes i wanted, AND cute packaging!! i’m gonna wait patiently and start counting my change! lol

thx for showing this ahead of time christine! glad i didnt decide to buy anthing until now.

Aneta Avatar

I really like the set with peachy-lipgloss, the one with the pink paint pot, the pink lip set, the neutral eye palette (I wonder what colors are in it??), and all the brushes (how different they are from the normal MAC brushes?)

Shanda Avatar

I really wish those brush kits were made better. They’d be a dream if they were near the quality of regular brushes. The last Nordstroms Anni sale kits were awesome the way they were packaged together. Anyway, I can’t wait ot check out these colors. But I’m not as tempted as I was with VV and FF. And Bobbi Brown’s BV. WOHOO, more money in the bank. 😉

angelica Avatar

the only things i like in this collection are the lipsticks, but i’m guessing i would have to buy them as part of a set? hmm…maybe. i love the gold in the tubes tho….=)

Jessika k Avatar

I don’t know what’s wrong with MAC this year. The packaging for venumous villians is incredibly tacky and terrible. And now this. I’d be embarassed to be carrying that packaging with me. Won’t be buying much mac this winter.

Amanda Avatar

OUCH!! Dang you MAC….like my wallet isnt going to suffer enough damage from the Venomous Villains Collections….then you have to throw in this whammy!! There better be some Repromotes and not a lot of LE stuff….I think my wallet may cry!!

Anna Avatar

I think all I’ll be getting is an eyeshadow palette. Not in love with the lipstick colors, don’t need any pigments, and if the brushes are below the quality of regular-sized MAC brushes, won’t be getting those either. Might pick up a lipgloss set, but I’ll wait for swatches of those. The packaging is OK but nothing too special, so luckily I’ll have more money left over for any future awesome MAC collections. 😛

Caitlin Avatar

Are the actual hairs of the mini brush sets the same quality as the normal sized brushes? I know that the mini sets are supposed to be lower quality but I don’t know what part of the brush is lower quality. Thanks Christine!

xxxlittlelunaxxx Avatar

I was extremely disappointed when I looked at this year’s holiday collection and Queen’s Sin was missing. I still cannot fathom why it was not made part of the permanent collection. I’ve read so many reviews absolutely raving their heads off about the amazing color. “I never thought I could wear red,” “I never thought I’d like a frosty red,” but mostly “I LOVE THIS!!” I just don’t get it. Why not bring it back, if not only for the holidays? I wish I knew how choosing permanent colors worked. They repromote a bunch of things people have gotten several times over, but not a product that so many seem to crave? Doesn’t make sense to me…

Naheeda Mohamed Avatar

My cousin who is make up artist said that she heard that they’re not the same quality as their regular brush sets. They say that the xmas collections are machine made whilst their regular brushes are handmade.

DAISY Avatar

they are supposed to be the same material except for they are not hand made like the full size ones from my experience the eye brushes work about the same as the regular size as far as any face brushes well not so much <<< hope this helps

michelle Avatar

ya know i like the plaid thing in general, but i really hate this packaging… its not nice looking plaid and it kinda looks tacky… not cute or chic just tacky, i was so exciting for the holiday stuff but im probably gonna skip on alot of it now. and why did they put plaid on plaid !!

sorry for those of u who like it please dont take offence.

Julie Avatar

Hey I was just wondering if you knew any of the prices. Also are these colors part of the permanent line or are they limited to this collection? Thank You!

Katie Avatar

I am also excited. The brush sets look great and i’m loving the more neutral eye pallette (top left 2nd picture) and the amazing pigment sets! I think that this collection is cute reminds me of a catholic school girl skirt for the packaging

Mila Avatar

OMG!!! I am obsessed with Pigments… I have like idk… over 30 pigments? Anyways, I LOVE the Green Pigment! And the Paint Pot and the Color eyeshadows palette! I LOVE COLOR! The brushes look nice too… I like that a purse comes along with it too!!! My wallet is already crying…

katherine Avatar

im scottish/ irish sooo frikkin excited!!!
i want the nuetral pallete
the lipglos and lipstick set
the brush set (i love the bags)
all of the lipgloss/pigment sets
and the eyeliner/pigment/mascara set
i m goonnaa goo wayyyyyyy overboard 🙂

Morgan Avatar

Hi Christine, I thought I remembered reading that the Tartan Tale would have a bunch of lipsticks in the collection. Is this not true? I am hearing news of lip glosses. I had my heart set on courting lilac and Faerie Glen lipsticks.

Sara Avatar

I think the palettes are the same as last years’ smoke and mirrors collection. At least the two on the top look exactly the same as the ones I have home! 🙂

Mila Avatar

Ok, Upon viewing this collection I must say that I am dissapointed at the color eyeshadow palette… The colors look muted, not vibrant like holiday colors should be… But I’ll still definitely check it out in person and see the finishes, maybe I’ll change my mind

Tiffany Avatar

Ohhh gosh, just earlier tonight I watched the Venomous Villains collection video on youtube and I wrote down all the things I would possibly want to buy. I totaled it all up… $239 w/out tax. And now this collection’s coming out a month after? My wallet is going to hate me.

I really love the plaid. It’s a nice touch for a holiday collection. I’m def. getting the brush sets. My goal is to get at least 1 pigment set, 1 lipglass set, 1 e/s palette, and one of those blush set things.

I can’t wait to see more! I’m overly excited.

Julie Avatar

Christe: So im new to MAC, ive never bought anything from the holiday collections. This will be my first one, so i was wondering if the lipgloses are full size? Also what do you recommend for me to get? The brushes look soooo tempting but ive been reading that they are not as good as the full size. Also does anyone know around how much these sets have usually cost for other collections?? Again im new to MAC. Thank you!! I love your website btw 🙂

Jesselle Avatar

Sheesh why does MAC have to always have such great collections. I just dropped over $400 on the Venomous Villains collection. I wonder how much this whole collection will be.

Natalie Avatar

My jaw literally dropped at these stunning colours of the new Tartan collection. However, I wasn’t too fond of the packaging. It looks a tad tacky since i like the packaging of like the ‘Liberty Of London’ and ‘Hetherette’ collections. Im into more of like the sleek kinda of packaging. I would definately still buy though. I think the colours make up for the packaging. xoxo

sarah Avatar

Hmmm. The collection looks pretty good, but I don’t know. The eyeshadow set in the blue/red plaid case looks strikingly similar to the Sorceress eyeshadow set in last year’s Magic, Mirth, and Mischief holiday set…or maybe it’s just me? haha other than that, it looks pretty dang cute.

Sandra Avatar

Hi Christine.

I have never purchased a holiday palette before with 6 colors. I wanted to know how much the weight of each individual color is in a palette and how that compares to a regular single eyeshadow?

Thanks.

Karin Avatar

This is CUTE! Love the packaging. Thank god my birthday is in November; more likely for me to receive Tartan presents (Christmas & birthday). I definitely need a break from dealing with collections. Where did all of my money go?

I guess you only live once.

Tiffany S. Avatar

There’s two items from this collection that I need to have but everything else looks great but either I have items too silmilar already or I already have the actual colors listed. MAC always has great stuff for the holidays!

Dana Avatar

Thanks so much for posting this! I am glad I only got 2 things from the VV collections because I am MUCH MUCH MUCH more interested in this one! All the pigments sound amazing (I missed out on Later in the A&O collection) and I am so glad they are repromoting those pearlglides! And those big eyeshadows with the plaid sound awesome too! Yay!

cmferrets Avatar

OMG OMG OMG , I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR U TO POST THIS CHRISTINE SINCE I HAD SEEN THE PICTURES. thanx! but i was especting mac to come out with not so many repromotes in their palettes. seems like alot of the colors and repromotes from recents collections. couldnt mac have come out with some like from the early 2000 decade? =)im excited as always thought, cux i love holiday collections. ill prob get everything. cant wait for swatches and upclose pictures.

Lorna Avatar

finally! I can get the Later pigment I have been dying to pick up from the Alice + Olivia collection but was sold out everywhere. Wish it still had the Alice + Olivia packaging though.

Dawn Avatar

The descriptions of the colors sound awesome but I must admit the pictures look a little dull. Hopefully once we see up-close pictures it will bring the products to life a little more!

Daria Avatar

Thank you so much for the info christine! I didnt know if you knew if these would be available at Macys ( or Nordies)? Thanks in advance!

By the way, Happy Birthday tomorrow!

SiaM Avatar

WOW! This is humongous!!! Where to start? I always tend to go for the lip sets and palettes, its like a holiday tradition =)

I also have to save for the designer collection too. Very interested on that one.

Callen Avatar

Arrrrg Oh So Fair is going to be repromoted?! Arg… I could have got it without the ugly VV packaging…

So excited for this collection! I want everything! Uh oh….

Niki Avatar

I got excite seeing a paint pot hoping it was going to be girl friendly or perky but to my dismay it was fresco rose, which totally makes me look like a have a rash on my eye

Edelmc Avatar

Ouch. My wallet is going to hurt. Normally I am very good and only pick out one or two things from a launch but this is the first time I want a massive haul launch day because I love pigments, dazzleglass and pearlglide!

Lizzy Avatar

Bleah.

This is the best MAC can do? For Holiday?

Since when is moonlight on snow black? Some Suit in marketing at MAC is nuts. Plaid ES will mix, and all be brown or grey or that same shade of green everywhere now.

Very disappointing, especially after last year.

kali Avatar

Thank you so much Christine!!! I’ve been waiting for this for awhile. I am LOVING the plaid ..btw, does anyone know if the bags for the lipstick/gloss sets have a handle? I’d love to try and make a crossbody bag out of one of these..

Angel Avatar

okay it’s official.. in exactly one month, i will be living in a box :(.
LOL. weird how there’s Vainglorious eyeshadow… AND VAIN & GLORIOUS. since i don’t plan on getting that specific palette, i think it’s safe to get it from VV XD.

Petra Avatar

I like the theme, pictures look nice, but wow, so many repromotes in the eyeshadow palettes – especially from last year! :-/ And not even the good ones (White Rabbit, looking at you…)
Btw, I noticed there’s a shade mentioned as new, LE, Altered State, which seemed familiar. I think it might be the same from last years holiday palette as well, from Sorceress? Even the description seems to fit. Btw, Hold my Gaze is a great shade, but I am so not buying an entire palette for it lol. 🙂

But I feel lucky that they’re repromoting Melba (perm) in one of the face palettes, I’ve been planning to purchase it sometime anyways. 🙂
Love last years face kit (the one without the bronzer).

AnaG. Avatar

They really know how mo make a girl spend her money!!! This collection is amazing, such beautiful colors :-)..I can easily see myself spending a few euros on this….Thanks again Christine!!

Danielle Avatar

Looks awesome 🙂 I don’t freak out over getting the holiday stuff ASAP anymore because I almost always see them showing up at the cosmetics outlet at my local outlet mall. For the last holiday collection they had a pretty good chunk of the products there, and you usually wind up saving a couple of bucks off retail. Those places are great for all the “limited edition” stuff. I even find products that sell out online sometimes.

Rebecca Avatar

Oops sorry Christine, just seen ur reply to someone about it. I hope they are in tins, it reminds me of Scottish shortbread tins. I would definitely use those to keep something in. I hope one of them is glitter!

Wendy Avatar

I wasn’t initially that excited for this but now that I’m seeing the color story… totally am! I -loved- the pearlglide liners when they came out with Art Supplies and only nabbed Petrol Blue because I’m an idiot… now I can get the rest! The lilac lipstick sounds pretty as well, along with the blushes! Can’t wait to see swatches.

Ani_BEE Avatar

The only thing I know I’m going to buy is Noble Knights Lash & Line Kit. ^_^

The clutches for the brush sets are awsome but knowing the pricetage on those set in the past I don’t think it’s worth it since I have similar brushes already. I might pick up a Dazzleglass Creme since it my favorite formula is the Cremesheen, it’s just a matter of colour for me.

Last year year collection of colour where *blah* and I’m glad to see they kicked it up a notch.

Andrea Avatar

I visited my local mac counter in Newport NJ, and they already had this collection on display. I was told that per-ordering starts on October 9.

P.s…Its a mac counter at Macys.

53 Avatar

I guess the eyeshadow with Tartan striping is the creme eyeshadow that MAC comes out with every year? since i also see the Pearlglide eyeliners together in the list of Chapter 1 of Tartan Tale. It’s a good business strategy that they lumped it together with this Holiday Collection due to Tartan’s massive appeal.

eden Avatar

OH MY GOSHHHHH
i NEED NEED NEED NEED thoes powder blushes in my highland honey and her her blooning cheek if they are really prgmented then by the sounds of things ill need backups they sound like me allover !!
cant wait for pictures of them 😀

AnGeLwInGz Avatar

Definitely think the packaging is cute. I’m surprised it took this long for MAC to have a Scottish-inspired collection. Not sure if they were trying to be witty or cheesy 😉 Christine, do you know what kind of finishes the patterned eyeshadows have?

Karen Avatar

Wow! I just told my husband yesterday that I think I would most likely pass on Tartan tale Collection since the previous posts didn’t impress me much, but now I’m drooling on the 6 plaid pattern eyeshadow and 3 pigments!! I spent too much on Venomous villains! Augggh MAC I’m so broke!

Lilinah Avatar

I’ve bought so many of the Dazzle lipsticks and Dare to Wear glosses, and Fabulous Felines and Venomous Villains products this year! But this collection just doesn’t excite me. That makes my wallet happy 🙂

Sam Avatar

Are the prices for pigment and lipglass sets for the whole group under it? Also, from past do you know what the price range for the brush set is going to be? Is the quality that diiferent for brushes then original? I was thinking of getting them for travel purposes.

Christine Avatar

Yes – keep in mind the sets are all minis – so the pigments are not full size nor are the lipglasses (but they are a good deal, don’t get me wrong).

I believe $49.50 or $59.50 for brushes. They’re machine made vs. man made like full sized ones.

Sam Avatar

Thanks. I am hoping the brushes will work alright if not used on a regular basis like the full sized ones I have. I only need them when I travel so I dont have to move around my brushes. You know.

Samantha Avatar

WOW! Usually I don’t like MAC collections just because they aren’t my taste, but everything in this collection looks amazingly gorgeous!! Now I know what I want for Christmas! I really can’t wait 😀

leesie Avatar

I really want to see those shadows, especially Enviably Fun and Glamora Castle, and I’m thinking this might be a good opportunity to acquire some pigments. I’ll definitely be following this collection.

Hannah Avatar

Oh my, this collection is crazy/amazing! So much stuff! I’m very excited and loving the tartan theme 🙂 I’m wondering if the actual products will have LE packaging or just the tins/pallets. I hope so 🙂

LU Avatar

I’m gonna get all of the pigment sets and possibly a face kit. The quads look nice but my wallet is itching for those pigments more! I just hope I save enough to pay my credit bills on time after this release and the sephora sale around the same time. XP

Dee Avatar

OMG! i would love to get everything in this collection. sadly, i don’t have enough money. but i do have my eyes set on some lipsticks and palettes. i can’t wait. i hope you’ll be doing a review on everything.

thank you for all the helpful information. 🙂

iliana Avatar

I’m so crushing on the set on the upper left on the first picture, though I can’t see those products on the list… Is that a paint pot, mascara and lipglass? 🙂 I love the cans plus I want the coral lipglasses!

LorraineER Avatar

The only thing I don’t like is lip palettes…even from MAC. Gloss is usually OK but not lipstick. Has anyone else noticed a quality issue with their lipstick in palette form?

Anyhow…It’s almost overwhelming! I can bet I’ll feel a deep need for the Thrillseekers sets, esp. Smoky. I just love sets!!

AS Avatar

Wierd, I already have the mini lipglasses in Scottish Lilt, Girls at Play, and Frozen Dream! They were in an ebay lot I won a couple of weeks ago, along with a mini Delicate Crush. I had no idea what they were, just that I didn’t have those colors. These were from a seller in Canada – I wonder if they work at a MAC manufacturing facility They have this same lot still for sale for a $22 buy it now, under “MAC LIPGLASS 4X MINNIE” though I got mine for much less via a regular auction. I’ve noticed that some of my best MAC ebay deals come from sellers in Toronto.

Jennifer Avatar

Don’t get me wrong. I love my M.A.C
But this is really, really, really irritating me that probably in the past month they have put out collection after collection.
I would think that their Holiday collection would come out closer to Thanksgiving more than October.
Time to start saving up!

diana Avatar

Is there a good amount of product in the face kits? I was wondering if I was better off buying a pan of melba and another of peachtwist since i can take or leave smooth harmony. would i just be paying for the packaging, which i really like, or am i getting a good value? thanks for your help!

Elise (degreesofshining) Avatar

LOL! Oi Vay! Take no prisoners & kill the wallet indeed! Just when I had about given up on MAC, they roll out one killer mother-load of a holiday collection! Piggy pigments, Lip & Dazzle Glasses, & a Metallic E/S palette! Looks like I will be banking all my pennies this month for this release! Loving it!

Maxi Avatar

Hey Christine! When will pictures of the tartan eyeshadows be up? I really can’t decide! And when can we start to pre order them at the store?

Alex Avatar

When can we expect to see a full collection review & swatches from you, Christine?! Yours are what I base my purchases on! There are no MAC stores/counters within a good 6 hours of me…. So sad

s a b l e Avatar

Thoughts on the quality of MAC nail lacquers? I’ve only purchased one… it was a black one from awhile back and I hated it! Wondering if they’ve improved?
Love this collection so much and have already put my preorder in… it’s so festive! And the colors are perfect for my complexion.
A Wish Come True and Semi-Precious eyeshadows sound pretty, but I’ve become very anti-individual eyeshadows because I tend to lose them or forget which ones I actually own!

s a b l e Avatar

I don’t see it mentioned here, but there will also be a Viva Glam set that includes I believe a gloss and a lipstick (maybe a liner too? can’t remember..) with an all red tartan plaid bag! Retails for about $30something

p Avatar

hey christine, im wondering why you get to get some collections from mac before theyre released and swatch them in your blog whereas for some you have to buy them all yourself after the release date?
and thanks to the existance of you and your blog we are able to view the swatches, really a great help! (:
especially for us international people cause it launches later here ):

Christine Avatar

MAC does not usually send me products in advance, so there’s not much I can do except buy them when they do come out. Sorry I can’t help you! I think I have only had maybe 3-4 in advance in the past year, but typically that is not the case.

Judy Avatar

Hi Christine, Would you know whether or not this collection will be out earlier than what is expected, October 28th? I’m just curious. As always, thank you for your time & knowledge.

Carla Avatar

This might be my first MAC purchase ever – I’m really liking the looks of those lipglass sets and a couple of the palettes (and I really like the tartan). Will have to keep an eye on the Canadian MAC site for when it’s released!

Angel Avatar

i’ve actually already seen half of these in person lol. my friend at the my local MAC counter was so excited about this collection, she whipped out some boxes for me to drool over XD. dashing lassies palette is gorgeousssss<3

Gurtinder Avatar

Which of the pearlglide intense eyeliners do you recommend for green/ hazel eyes?
Like which ONE would be the best one to get for that kind of eye colour?
(open to everyone)
please & thank you 🙂

Melissa Avatar

I have seen the collection and its amazing I’m already pre-ordering some items. For the eye kit that comes with a green pigment the fluidline is just black track not the blitz & glitz. Also the pink lip set isn’t as pink as it looks on the website I was expecting a very nice soft pink but the lipstick looked more neutral than pink. The bags are amazing!

Laurie Avatar

Ok, so I’m already crying over the 2 weeks pay I will be handing over to MAC. I want almost everything! The bags….the pigments…..the eyeshadows…………this collection is HUGE and so beautiful!!!!!!!!!

Rayanna Avatar

Thanks! I keep getting mixed messages. Even though I know it’s usually the Tuesday before people keep saying it’s going to be online the same day as the store launch, but I called MAC and they also said the 26th so I hope that is right.

Kina Avatar

:’C I want absolutely everything…. Plaid is my favourite thing ever…. They picked THE worst possible year to do this to me.. I won’t be able to get anything
/sobs in corner for eternity

Laura Avatar

UGh! This has to be the ugliest M.A.C collection in HISTORY I wouldn’t even take it if it was free. I was expecting something cute this year. Not PLAD!?!?! EWW
