Focus On: MAC 150 Large Powder Brush
MAC 150 Large Powder Brush ($42.00) is a large, domed-shape densely-packed brush. It’s ideal for use with loose and pressed powders. I do believe MAC encourages using this with blush, too, but I find it far too large and dense for that purpose; particularly because there are so many better brushes to use (like the 116 and 129). This isn’t the softest brush I own by MAC, but it’s still incredibly soft and doesn’t feel scratch to me. Personally, I find I only use this for applying loose/pressed powders to set my makeup. I find it is fluffy enough to blend and give me thorough coverage, but it is dense enough that product doesn’t get wasted. I use this brush everyday, but I do wish it was more of a multi-tasker for its price!
How do you like to use this brush?
See close-ups…
I bought this brush, found it too scratchy and returned it. I bought another but haven’t brought myself to open it. I might just send it back and be done with it. So it sits on my desk in its black box, unopened, unused, not being returned, in limbo. What to do, what to do??
i would return it and buy the urbandecay powder brush theyre not scrathey at all 🙂 x
Oh, nice!
If it doesn’t work for you, I’d definitely just return it and buy another powder brush either by MAC or another brand!
Great review! Many people will be afraid to go outside the suggested use for the brush. I definitely do not use this brush for blush. I have so many others that are just perfect for that purpose. I agree with your use. I used it for applying loose powder. It is awesome for that.
It’s wayyy too big for blush, IMO!
I just bought this brush. On the way home, I was thinking about the horrible mistake I made by not listening to the MAC artist and getting the bigger one but I’m getting used to it now. Because it’s not HUGE, it’s a lot easier to apply loose powder to the nose or eye area. Learned to love it.
Which did they recommend over the 150?
I love this brush. I use it everyday as my go-to loose powder brush. I also use it for my bronzer. It gives a nice light dusting so that it doesn’t turn out making my face look muddy.
Exactlyyy!!
I’ve heard that this brush is really good for loose/pressed powder products and I’ve heard that it’s scratchy. I think I might get that brush.
It isn’t scratchy to me!
i love this more for setting my foundation with powders… it is too big for applying blushes
Agreed — way too big for blush!
i just got this brush…hopefully its helpfull:)
I love it! Great for loose and pressed powders!
I use me brush 150 for my loose powder and love it.
I do not find it scratchy. I just find the brush too big for travelling. I would like to know which smaller brush do you recommend. Many thanks
You could try the 134 or 129.
I use this brush for mineral skin finish. I don’t think it is scratchy at all either.
Hi Chris 🙂 I read your review on the 182 brush and decided to go with it but after i read this review i’m uncertain….I wanted a brush mainly to apply all over pressed and/or loose powder. Which should I get?? Thanks!!
134!
Hey I’m tossing up between the 150 or the 134 for my msf natural. which would be better. I have the 129 and fine the sides to be nice and soft but the very tips of the hairs are scratchy. Are either of the 134 or 150 like that?
If you’re using it as a setting powder, I like the 134. If you are applying it as foundation, I actually prefer the 189.
hello, I bought this for loose powder..it is ok, but does any of yours lose any hairs ???
Sometimes but maybe one or two every 4-5 uses.
hi i want a brush to use with my studio fix powder i dont use foundation or nothing like that just the powder is the 150 a good brush for that im looking for one that would give me medium to full cover any sugg?
Try the 190 or 189.
I was wondering if it is as dense as the 182 buffer brush or at least almost dense enough to use for buffing
