LORAC Unzipped Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
LORAC Unzipped Eyeshadow Palette
LORAC Unzipped Eyeshadow Palette ($40.00 for 0.58 oz.) is described as a “universally flattering nude eyeshadow palette.” It includes ten eyeshadows (0.39 oz. in total, or 0.039 oz. each) and a miniature-sized Behind the Scenes Eye Primer (0.19 oz.). Overall, it’s a good palette with ten shades and no major issues. Most of the eyeshadows had good color payoff, soft, blendable textures, and the formula wears quite consistency–almost every shade lasted for eight hours on me (no primer). With LORAC’s primer, results are closer to ten to eleven hours. The palette is very warm-toned, so I wouldn’t describe it was “universally flattering” (which, in general, is a difficult task for any shade, let alone multiple shades!), but otherwise, it’s a nice neutral palette to consider if you haven’t yet had your fill.
When Urban Decay Naked3 came out, a lot of readers asked how this compared. There is definitely overlap, but I don’t think the palettes are that similar. The shades that are “most similar” (but they vary in degree) would be Undercover vs. Strange, Unbelievable vs. Trick, Unconditional vs. Limit/Nooner. Shades like Dust, Buzz, Liar, Factory, Mugshot, Darkside, and Blackheart don’t seem to have anything that’s really similar that’s in the Unzipped palette.
Undercover is a light, pink-tinged beige with a satin finish. It had good color payoff and a soft, silky texture that applied well. This shade lasted for eight hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Unbelievable is a medium-dark, coppered brown with a frosted, metallic finish. It had good pigmentation, and the texture felt soft and almost buttery, though it was just slightly powdery. The color stayed on well for just over eight hours when I tested it. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Unattainable is a medium-dark, gold-shimmered bronze brown with a frosted, metallic sheen. The texture was a little powdery, but it had decent pigmentation and blended well. When worn, this shade wore well for seven and a half hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Unconditional is a muted, dusty pink-mauve with a matte finish. It had fairly good color payoff, but the texture was soft and silky, just a bit powdery. I noticed the color had faded slightly after eight hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Unbridled is a warm-toned, burgundy-brown with a satin-matte finish. It had good pigmentation, though the texture was a bit thinner and drier compared to other shades in the palette, so it didn’t apply as smoothly or as intensely. Applied to the eye, the color stayed on well for eight hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Undiscovered is a brightened, orange-toned gold with a frosted, metallic finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was pretty smooth without being powdery. This shade wore well for eight hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Unreal is a golden peach with a frosted sheen and warm undertones. The texture was incredibly soft and smooth, while the pigmentation was mostly opaque. When I tested it, the color didn’t fade for eight hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Uncensored is a medium-dark, golden bronze with warm, yellow and red undertones and a smooth, pearly sheen. It had excellent color payoff with a soft, buttery texture that applied beautifully. I didn’t see any fading until after eight hours of wear. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Unspoken is a muted, medium-dark brown with warm, yellow-y undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation, and the texture was soft and silky without being powdery. The wear topped in at eight hours before there was noticeable fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Untamed is a dark, red-toned brown with burgundy shimmer and a satin finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was fairly soft and smooth. It stayed on well for eight hours before starting to fade. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Another warm-toned neutral palette. How inspired of them. 🙁 Guess us cool-toned gals aren’t taken into consideration when companies make neural palettes!
This came out awhile ago, actually! I just never bought it (so many palettes that I was working on already!).
And you did a lovely job on all things. 🙂
Thank you!
I am so excited to finally get my hands on this palette. When N3 came out I wasn’t impressed after playing with it, especially since I already have N2. I think Unzipped is just the change-up I’ve been looking for. My neutral collection will be complete after this! Thanks for the thorough review as always Christine ^_^
My pleasure, Ria!
So glad that you finally got a chance to try this palette. It is one of my faves. I thought it would be similar to Naked 3 at first, but I find that it is much warmer. I love LORAC eye shadows! I purchased the pro palette 2 on Sunday (couldn’t help it ;). I can’t wait for it to get it.
Yup, this palette is definitely warmer! Naked3 has more variety in undertone and definitely leans pinker.
This looks like a much warmer neutral palette than the Naked 3. I really like this one actually.. has all the colors one would need.. but I hardly use eye shadows so investing in another would just be sheer “hoarding”! This is beautiful though!
You’re right on the money, Divya! This is a warmer palette in general, and warmer than Naked3!
I feel the exact same way about this palette as I do about Naked 3… big fat MEH. I can’t see myself wearing nude pinks. I just can’t imagine it wouldn’t look like I’ve got really bad eczema (I’ve been there before…).
Aww!
I miss LORAC now that it’s no at sephore as the shipping to Canada doen’t make a purchasse worth it.
These are shades i would on daily bases more so then the LORAC Pro palette.
Hopefully they’ll find a retailer in Canada to distribute through!
Apparent you can order to Canada now (started 3 months ago) from Amazon.com the line.
Their PRIME shipping option happen to be decent to Canada. (I buy about 50% of my MH and EAH dolls through them. Another bad addiction of mine)
I just bought this palette on amazon.com and I am in canada….the price was very reasonable compared to other sites like ebay, etc. You should check it out 🙂
I love this palette. I bought this after Naked 3. The colors are similar but the shadows in this palette are superior to Naked 3. I reach for this one all the time and I hardly ever use Naked 3. There are no bad shades and the colors are very flattering on my skin tone.
Happy you like this one, Lauren!
It looks really pretty. Since I do have NAKED3, I don’t feel the need to really want it right now.
One only *needs* so many neutral palettes 😉
I like this palette, I think the colors are prettier than N3. I am glad I read your review. Just to reiterate, this palette wouldn’t work for pale skin?
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for pale skin – it is dominated by light and medium tone eyeshadows!
I love this palette and I reach for it often. I’m not a shimmer or glitter person so all the finishes on these are perfect for me!
Yayy!
So glad you finally did a review of this product! I bought this a while ago and I love it! I have Urban Decay’s Naked 3 too, and I think there’s a big difference between the two palettes – this is more true warm, rose gold colors where Naked 3 has cooler, pink-toned colors. And the shades that got “B” grades do look amazing with primer!
It’s reassuring you had the same sense of “more different than similar” between the two as well! 🙂
Hi can you do a review on the BH revealed and revealed 2 palette, they said it is a great dupe for the NAKED, 2 and 3 palette… prettty please….♥
Sorry, I don’t have that!
Pretty shades though I have had my fill of neutrals for a while now 😉
I hear ya 🙂
I really like the palette, but seriously doubt I will need any more shadows in this range in my lifetime 😉
Join the club 😉
This is a beautiful palette!
Glad ya liked it, Miss Jae!
I use this way more than my Naked 3 just because I am warm-toned. The Naked 3 makes me look dead. I haven’t touched my Naked 3 in months
I’m glad you found a palette that you do like!
Now I need to decide btwn this and the Revealed 2 palette. BAH! 🙂
Too many choices!
I need this one, I would use this non-stop! I am surprised I’d never noticed it before.
Let me know if you try it, Isabelle!
I kinda hate myself for saying this but… *yawn*
I’m sure you’re not the only one with neutral palette fatigue!
I think you are right in your description here, it is not really comparable to Naked 3 in my eyes either. I do prefer this palette though, just because I find Lorac eyeshadows much easier to work with than UD eyeshadows. I do wish Unconditional was more pigmented on me though.
I’m the opposite, haha! I find UD’s formula easier to use, lol!
I don’t know if I should buy this palette or the LORAC Pro. I already got the N1 and N3. What do you think? Or do you think I should skip both?
LORAC Pro is a more versatile palette compared this one, which is very warm and fairly shimmery.
I like the shimmer and metallic shades in this, but I don’t think the mattes are pigmented enough. I think I prefer my naked 3.
It’s definitely not a perfect palette!
I lURRRRVE this palette. I have not purchased any of the naked palettes( or any other neutral palette) because I felt there were too many shades I would not use. On my darker skin tone I can use everyone of these shades. I only use neural shadows so this palette is the only eyeshadow I use. I am so glad to see other people enjoying this too and not just Lorac pro palette.
Happy to hear you like the palette, Santangela!
I love this palette because it doesn’t have a bunch of super dark shades that I will never wear. It makes it feel like a better value for me. *^_^*
Yay!
I bought this when it first came out. I use it everyday, it is almost used up. I will purchase another. I am the same skin tone as Jennifer Hudson and the colors show very well.
Wow! That is impressive 🙂
I love Lorac shadows, so I feel like this palette would get so much use in my collection. It’s so stunning!
If you like their formula, you’ll like this for sure!
It’s like a mega warm N3! I’d like a cool one now, please.
If only!
One of my faves to be sure. Pro P 1 & this one. Not a dud in the bunch.
What’s your fave combo?
I just can’t seem to find them these days! Sephora doesn’t carry Lorac anymore, beauty.com never have this palette or the pro palette in stock, and that’s the two places I like to shop the most! Where else can I get my hands on Lorac palettes?? (except Ulta?)
Have you tried LORAC’s website?
This pallet looks amazing! Puting this on my wishlist!
Yay!! 🙂
I have N3 and I feel it is too cool toned for my warm bronzey skin. The LORAC Unzipped Palette is so much better for us warm toned gals. I kept my N3 for client purposes.
Happy you like your Unzipped palette! I feel like the only warm-toned person who likes Naked3, lol!
This looks amazing! It’s not as though I need another neutral toned palette, but of course it is going straight to my wish list! Thank you for another amazing and detailed post. Love the up close photos and really appreciative of the swatches.
No problem, Dana! 🙂
At the risk of being boring, I have to echo the requests for a cooler toned version, and the neutral-palette fatigue! 😀 There are several really pretty shades in here, but I have to admit, when I saw the picture I had to restrain a little eyeroll. Still, if you collect neutral palettes, or prefer LORAC’s formula, or don’t have a warm neutral palette yet, this one looks like a good one!
Hopefully, a brand will put one out soon! Finally!
Been around awhile.. It’s a sexy palette, but one day it will cost $5 on the Lorac site.
LOL! Ouch!
HA! I’m laughing right now because I know you so know what I’m talking about! Ha! 😀 lmao (sry)
I am all in for neutral shades this time.. adding it to my wish list .. such a prettyy palette.. <3
It’s a nice warm, neutral palette!
I’m really thinking about getting this! I just discovered Lorac and consider their Pro Palette to be equal in quality to Urban Decay. I haven’t found any shadows before that met my expectation after discovered Urban Decay. This palette is so pretty and looks very pigmented. Question: Is it permanant or limited edition?
As far as I know, it is permanent!
The pictures I see of this palette are so different than the appearance of the one I own. I bought it as a warmer alternative to Naked 3, but found the colors to be very shimmery, with some very similar, and way more orange toned than rose toned. The matte shades are beautiful however. When Iexperiented with mixing shades, like a matte with a shimmer of the same color, I got more of the rose toned colors that I was looking for. This is easy to do with swatches on the back of your hand, not so much when dipping a brush into two pans and hoping you get the right mixture. I was very disappointed with unconditional because I hoped it would be a dupe of the similar color in the Naked 3 palette. That matte mauve color was much deeper and my favorite of the entire palette, but I couldn’t keep an entire palette for one color. Lorac’s is much paler, but when I mixed it with the deeper plum to the right of it (unbridled, and it looks much browner in your swatches) I got a very similar shade to the one I wanted. So this palette is very suable, but depending on your skintype, you may have to do some mixing to get the shades you see in the pans. Nothing swatches the way it looks, at least not in my palette. I bought it based on reviews and swatches, I wonder if I got a lemon? It was 20% off during the beauty.com sale (thank you Christine for letting us know about that one), so if I got a lemon, I will make lemonade!
That is very interesting, Ellen! I’m surprised to hear that you had so much trouble with colors looking true-to-pan! What a bummer. I’m glad you were able to make a bit o’ lemonade with it, but it’s still disappointing that this didn’t work out for you!
This palette is gorgeous! Is it a limited edition? Thanks!
Permanent
I got this when UD Naked 3 was too cool for me. The palette that I have has colors that are not exactly the same as yours. The darkest matte shade is more purple, and the darkest shimmer shade is more of a gray/purple/shimmery dark brown with terrible staying power. The rest are pretty much the same. But I wonder about the differences in quality control.
I wonder if there is less consistency with palettes during production…
Need help. I have the naked 2 & 3 I’m not sure if I want to get this unzipped one or the bon voyage palette, or maybe both lol! Help! 🙂
Probably Bon Voyage!
