Lethal Cosmetics Roots Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Roots

Lethal Cosmetics Roots 6-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($27.00 for 0.34 oz.) includes six new eyeshadows, which can be purchased individually ($6 to $7 each) or together as a pre-made palette (as shown). The palette contains three matte shades and three shimmers. The three shimmers were quite nice; pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. One of the matte eyeshadows was stellar–Coven–while the other two were a little powdery but pigmented, blendable, and easy enough to use despite the powderiness.

Idol

Idol is a bright, bluish-white base with iridescent green and aqua shimmer paired with a metallic finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, which was more opaque when applied with a fingertip or a dampened brush. The texture was smooth, almost cream-like, and easy to work with on bare skin. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Formula Overview

$6.00/0.06 oz. - $100.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "extreme pigmentation" and "effortless blendability" ... "that [will] last all day." There are two primary finishes: mattes and metallics, and the latter can also be used wet.

The matte finish has semi-opaque to opaque color coverage with moderate powderiness; it's a formula that is best used with a lighter hand. There was light fallout with some shades, though not at all, and they were blendable for the most part. Even with a light hand, there was still a bit of powderiness present--the brand did warn about using less with their formula--in the pan.

There were a few darker shades that had a tendency to sheer out when applied or did not apply as evenly, especially when layered over a lighter shade but most of the mid-tone and lighter shades were easy to apply and blend out. As a result, I found myself having better results by going dark to light rather than light to dark (which is more in line with how I typically work).

The metallic finish ranged from creamier, denser, and a bit thicker to softer, dense but still a little powdery (usually the lighter, more white-based shades). They were mostly opaque to fully opaque in a single layer, so they didn't need to be applied with a wet brush to achieve coverage or adhesion. I found that some of the more powdery, shimmery shades were more flattering on the lid when used with a fingertip or a dampened brush, though.

The matte eyeshadows tended to wear around eight hours on me before fading, while the shimmer shades lasted eight to eight and a half hours on me.

Runic

Runic is a bright, medium-dark yellow with warmer undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was somewhat powdery in the pan, which led to the product having a tendency to sheer out a bit in practice, despite having opaque coverage otherwise. The eyeshadow went on evenly and blended out well, though. It lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Sigil

Sigil is a medium, bluish-aqua base with warmer, green-gold shifting shimmer that gave it a metallic finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff that applied evenly to bare skin with a smooth, even laydown of product. The texture was moderately dense, almost cream-like, but not too thick. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Lore

Lore is a soft, golden brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with less than a second layer. The consistency was soft, smooth, and blendable with light powderiness in the pan but not enough to translate into fallout during application. The color wore well for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

Talisman

Talisman is a bright, medium blue with moderate, cool undertones and warmer, gold-to-green shifting shimmer and a metallic finish. The texture was lightly emollient, moderately dense, and smooth without being too thick or too firmly-pressed into the pan, so it picked up well with a dry brush and had great adhesion to bare skin. It lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Coven

Coven is a light-medium, lime green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color coverage that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well as the texture wasn’t too powdery nor too firmly-pressed in the pan. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Thriled to see your review of this one – I just ordered it last week 🙂
Looking forward to trying this brand for the first time!

I really like the cool toned pastel shimmer shades, paired with the slightly warm matte shades. I thought the colour story was varied enough to create several lovely eye looks. Talisman is the standout shade for me.
