Laura Mercier Spellbound Face Illuminator Review, Photos, Swatches

Laura Mercier Spellbound Face Illuminator ($42.00 for 0.35 oz.) is described as a “soft rose-gold.” It’s a warm, champagne-shimmered copper–it doesn’t really look pink on me, like a rose gold, it’s a little warmer, more orange. On cooler skin tones, the rosiness may be more apparent. NARS Luster is more orange, more pigmented. MAC Poised is less shimmery, more pigmented. MAC Barefaced is warmer, less shimmery. MAC Light Year is pinker. See comparison swatches.

Spellbound is supposed to highlight the face with “buildable long-wearing color.” It has a soft, smooth texture that makes blending a breeze. The color just diffuses and softens with ease and doesn’t look on uneven on the skin. It does have buildable color, so if you have a medium or lighter complexion, you’ll see some warmth and color added as well as a reflective sheen. I have normal-to-dry skin, and it does emphasize pores slightly when I used it on my cheeks, which wasn’t surprising, given the finish has such a high-shine. If used very lightly (like with a fan brush) just over the high planes of the cheeks, then I didn’t see any emphasis, so it will depend on how much you apply, where, and so on. It lasted eight hours well on my cheeks, and after nine hours, it started to look a bit faded and patchy.

I ordered this as soon as I found out about it a few days ago. I was terrified this would be Rose Rendevous all over again (which I sadly missed out on), so I was too afraid to wait. I’m really happy I ordered it, it seems like a great highlighter and a nice shade for my skintone.

The product is so pretty and would love to have it for that reason. Of course, I won’t. Since I am fair and pink, I think it would be too dark on me. 🙁

Oh great, I saw this product and read some really good feedback on this product. Laura Mercier has some excellent products..although the label presence seems to be rather low key. Thanks so much for the swatches..big help.. saved me some cash. This looks like it is pulling fairly orange.

I can’t believe this. The one being sold in the US is 10g/.35oz and the one being sold in Europe is 6g/.20oz???? Why are they always unfair with us??? And it’s also more expensive like always than the US. Very sad.

And the ones listed on Nordstrom andlauramericer.com are also .20oz or 6g. Where do you get the 10g version from? What’s going on? Anyone ?

Surprisingly, my local Sephora still has this! I overlooked it the other night thinking it would be very coppery. It looks peachy to me in your swatch, which I love! May have to go back & snag one!
