Laura Mercier Sensual Reflections Cheek Melange Review, Photos, Swatches
Laura Mercier Sensual Reflections Cheek Melange
Laura Mercier Sensual Reflections Cheek Melange ($42.00 for TBA oz.) is a light-medium, plummy brown with a soft sheen and neutral-to-warm undertones. Giorgio Armani Light Rose (LE) is darker, more shimmery. NYX Taupe (P, $5.00) is darker, cooler-toned, more matte. NARS Douceur (P, $29.00) is more matte. MAC Baby Don’t Go (P, $23.50) is pinker, more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Launching soon with Laura Mercier’s fall collection, this limited edition Cheek Melange is supposed to “add natural, glowing colour to cheeks … It provides natural radiance to complexion and is designed to complement all skin tones.” If you are light-medium or fairer, you may get slight color out of this, but on my medium complexion, I applied four layers–packed on–and could barely distinguish the color on me. It does, however, add a soft, luminous sheen to the skin without brightening. The powder is somewhat stiff, which contributes to needing to layer it on, though once dislodged from the pan, goes on smoothly and doesn’t look powdery. It seems to add “natural radiance” regardless of skin tone, but it doesn’t add “glowing color” to all skin tones. It doesn’t have any white base to it, so it can be applied to deeper skin tones without looking chalky, but it will be very subtle and produce mostly a soft sheen. The color/sheen lasts for almost eight hours on my skin. There are better, more finely-milled, higher performing highlighters at the $40+ price point, so this left me unimpressed. It’s too bad, because the shade itself is more unusual, so something with more color payoff and a softer texture would have been interesting.

It’s not exciting to me!
Well, at least you weren’t let down then! 🙂
Do you think this could be a good all over powder for medium skin? I’m looking for something like Meteorites (I can’t use them since I’m allergic).
No – the powder is stiff and difficult to get product out of!
I wonder if a stiffer brush, like a meteorites brush might help pick up the powder of this stiff product.
I used my scratchiest, most hated brush on this in an effort to dislodge the product, LOL.
Thanks! I’ll pass then.
Pricey for something that doesn’t do very much (though your cheeks do have a lovely glow and you are right – this doesn’t look powdery on you, even if the photos show the results after multiple layers….). Do the 3 colours go all the way through the product?
It seemed like they did to me – I kept brushing away and jabbing at the center piece, and it still stayed that darkish plum shade!
At least it looks pretty in the pan. 😛
LOL! 😉
Ooh! The floral design of this makes me think “spring,” but I can see how these shades would be great for the fall, too. It’s just too bad that the powder itself was underwhelming!
It did remind me of spring, too!
I really like this, actually… Then again, I’m on the lighter end of the spectrum, and I don’t care for alot of cheek color. That said, I’m still on the fence, as I have several similar products… I’ll definitely swatch it if I catch it in-store, but I won’t be going out of my way.
If you end up giving it a shot in store, let me know how it works out!
This is so beautiful and so disappointing, even more so because it’s so beautiful! Have you gotten a chance to try out the Chanel Dentelle Precieuse powder, Christine? I’m hoping that performs better (and that it doesn’t sell out before the Nordstrom sale opens for regular people).
P.S. longtime lurker, new commenter/blogger. I love your blog!
Haven’t received mine yet!
Happy first comment 🙂 Thank you!
Just so pretty and yet so dismal.. too bad!!!!!
I know 🙁
This looked like it had so much potential, because as you said, the shade is somewhat unusual. I like colours with plum undertone that are not plum, does that make sense?
Yes! 🙂
I was hoping this would turn out better since the design is so nice but it looks meh. The formula doesn’t seem to be much better either
Me too 🙁
It’s a beautiful shade..I just wish it was a better product!
Same here, Melinda!
Hmmmm… I can see how it might be good for us pale folk, but I’d rather have a NARS or Clinique Pop blush to add to my collection.
Good call!
Not a higlighter, not a blush, not a powder. Too expensive for what it does.
It’s a bit of an oddball product!
A definite not for me.
Sad times!
*wearing Laura Mercier scarf, foam finger etc*
I’m holding out for the dark lipgloss and the green liner! Please let them be uphill from here! 😛
Not that they have LM in this country, but a rogue can dream/hit up her US friends if things turn out well 😉
Fingers crossed for you!
It did nothing.. absolutely nothing.. 🙁 .. such a dud.. 😛
🙁
Eh, this looks like a butthole to me…
Interesting!
