A La Rose

Laura Mercier A La Rose Rouge Essentiel Silky Crème Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had mostly opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, smooth, and more velvety texture that was thin but not clingy.

The product could have applied slightly more evenly as there was a touch of streaking along the outer edges of my lips that I could never quite smooth out. It stayed on well for four hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$32.00/0.12 oz. - $266.67 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "high-impact color" with "weightless decadence" that "moisturizes and smooths." The pigmentation was nearly opaque to opaque in a single layer, which applied smoothly and without tugging. The texture was lightly creamy but more velvety overall, so it glided easily over my lips but didn't feel overly slippery.

The issue I had was that the formula didn't seem particularly forgiving of natural lip texture or imperfections, so despite exfoliating prior to application, there were areas highlighted that I didn't expect to see since the formula was supposed to be smoothing. It also settled a bit into deeper lip lines, which was more noticeable (in person, not just in the close-up photos) with lighter shades than brighter or deeper tones. They lasted between four and six hours on me and felt lightly hydrating.

Rose Claire

Laura Mercier Rose Claire Rouge Essentiel Silky Crème Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light-medium cotton candy pink with strong, cool blue undertones and a satin sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which built up slightly but was never fully opaque.

The texture seemed to have slightly more than slip than most shades in the range, though it still had more of a velvety glide than more traditional creaminess (which often has a wetter feel). It wore well for four hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

Blush Pink

Laura Mercier Blush Pink Rouge Essentiel Silky Crème Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium, cotton candy pink with cooler, blue undertones and a satin sheen. The texture was lightweight, thin, and more velvety with its slip rather than traditionally creamy or emollient, which kept it from being as smoothing or as forgiving as it might have been of lip texture/lip lines–it wasn’t too emphasizing, but it just wasn’t the most flattering either. It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage that lasted well for four hours and felt lightly hydrating.

When I destashed lipsticks, it turned out that the LMs (not of recent vintage) were the first to turn. Possibly that means that they were not using heavy preservatives. That might be a good thing for people who use l/s up quickly. Comparatively, Pats of a similar age were fine.
