Luxe (238)

Lancome Luxe (238) L’Absolu Rouge Hydrating Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a soft brown base with lighter, copper pearl that gave it a more metallic sheen. It had semi-sheer to medium color coverage, though it was labeled as a Cream and not a Sheer finish, so I was surprised by the lack of opacity. It felt more more like a sheer finish; it had more slip, wasn’t as thin or as tacky in feel, and the coverage had some translucency to it.

The color applied evenly to my lips and was forgiving of imperfections in texture, though a touch slipped into my deeper lip lines–not enough to be noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It lasted well for four hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

Formula Overview

$32.00/0.14 oz. - $228.57 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be "hydrating" with "eight-hour" wear that is available in three finishes (sheer, cream, and matte). The cream and matte shades finishes highly pigmented, while the sheer finish is more medium, buildable in coverage.

The texture of the cream finish was lightly creamy, lightweight, and not too thin or too thick, so they applied comfortably, evenly, and were flattering on lips. The matte finish was slightly thicker and "heavier" in comparison, though still lightweight to wear, and it had more of a satin finish initially that wore down to matte after an hour or two. The sheer finish was more emollient and had a shinier finish with translucency but wasn't so sheer that all the shades would look the same on.

The majority of shades did not last eight hours on me, though the wear was more between four and six hours with most mid-depth and deeper shades lasting five to six hours and the lighter shades and sheer finish shades lasting closer to four hours. The formula was hydrating across all three finishes.

There was a noticeable, powdery floral scent that translated slightly into a taste at times. It was a stronger scented product where I smelled it for a few hours into the wear, not just in the tube or when initially applied.

Amande Sucree (245)

Lancome Amande Sucree (245) L’Absolu Rouge Hydrating Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium rosy brown with subtle, warm undertones and lighter, warmer pearl throughout. It had a more metallic finish, which wasn’t as emphasizing of my lip lines as it could have been, but it did pull into my deeper lip lines enough to be barely noticeable in person (and more obvious in the close-up photo).

The lipstick had a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that was thinner without being overly clingy, so it applied evenly and was comfortable to use in a fluid stroke, but it had good adhesion for longer wear. It had opaque pigmentation that stayed on well for five hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

I used 238 Luxe for a few years but it was very sheer and it did not last long on me. I had to re-apply all the time. After the tubes were gone i bought 254 Creme De Marron and liked it a lot better. Its a true cream and stayed on me nicely for a few hours. 238 should be labeled a sheer and do a lot better for $32.00.

Wow. I won’t lie. I saw these and I immediately thought of my mom in the ’90s. Is the ’90s back already? These trend cycles are getting a little too short for my liking… They’re not bad, they just are not for me.
