Lancome Caprice & Idole L'Absolu Rouges Reviews & Swatches
Caprice (132)
Lancome Caprice (132) L’Absolu Rouge ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a bright, medium red with cool undertones and a natural sheen. There was very, very fine pearl strewn throughout that gave it a smoother, more luminous finish but didn’t look shimmery to the eye. The consistency was smooth, thin, and lightweight but not at all clingy nor did it emphasize my lip texture–it actually made my lips look a bit smoother. It wore well for five and a half hours, left a reddish stain, and was hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$32.00/0.14 oz. - $228.57 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "hydrating" with "eight-hour" wear that is available in three finishes (sheer, cream, and matte). The cream and matte shades finishes highly pigmented, while the sheer finish is more medium, buildable in coverage.
The texture of the cream finish was lightly creamy, lightweight, and not too thin or too thick, so they applied comfortably, evenly, and were flattering on lips. The matte finish was slightly thicker and "heavier" in comparison, though still lightweight to wear, and it had more of a satin finish initially that wore down to matte after an hour or two. The sheer finish was more emollient and had a shinier finish with translucency but wasn't so sheer that all the shades would look the same on.
The majority of shades did not last eight hours on me, though the wear was more between four and six hours with most mid-depth and deeper shades lasting five to six hours and the lighter shades and sheer finish shades lasting closer to four hours. The formula was hydrating across all three finishes.
There was a noticeable, powdery floral scent that translated slightly into a taste at times. It was a stronger scented product where I smelled it for a few hours into the wear, not just in the tube or when initially applied.

Caprice (132)
PPermanent. $32.00.
Idole (186)
Lancome Idole (186) L’Absolu Rouge ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep coral-red with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good color coverage in a single layer, but it wasn’t buildable without the product clumping up on itself. The texture felt smooth, velvety, and glided easily across my lips without tugging but was quite lightweight and didn’t feel emollient (despite the glide). There was a bit of product that gathered in my deeper lip lines and separated along my natural texture on my upper lip, though neither issues were visible from a normal viewing distance. It stayed on well for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating.

Caprice is gorgeous and I love the packaging! I certainly don’t need anymore reds, but your review makes it awfully tempting.
I don’t own any Lancome lipsticks, but I’ve heard a lot of people are turned off by the scent. I’m fine with some scents, like MAC’s vanilla or Chanel Rouge Coco’s roses, but I have a Givenchy lipstick that I got a last year and never wear because it smells like old fashioned grandma lipstick (mind you, I’m old enough to be a grandma myself!).
If you don’t like Givenchy, I’d skip. Definitely in that category, IMO. It’s somewhere between Givenchy and Chanel.
Thanks…money saved. Chanel teeters on the edge for me. I love the scent of my Rouge Cocos, but my Rouge Allure Velvets are just tolerable.
But I do love the packaging on these Lancomes. Weirdly, it gives me a happy nostalgic feeling for those striped Yardley lipstick tubes from the early 1970s!
I’m getting that nostalgic thing going on, too, Seraphine! I used to think that those Yardley tubes looked so yachts clubbish or something a country club member would have in her bag, LOL. (I think we know which movie I watched on repeat, huh? ?️⛳)
Caprice is heart-breakingly lovely. Not getting it, of course, but I’m certainly enjoying looking at it.
Too bad that Idole doesn’t have the same sumptuous finish as Caprice! I’m a sucker for reds, obviously. But, a good coral-red is a summertime weakness. Time to hit up my UD Tryst and Tilt, plus PMG Candy Flip too, while I’m at it!
I need another red lipstick like I need a hole in my head… but Caprice is SO SO lovely, and the packaging is fantastic enough to turn me into a summertime Francophile. Man.
Caprice is a gorgeous shade of red.
I absolutely love Caprice! I’ve had it for a few years and it’s a perfect shade for summer I feel! ❤
