Kat Von D Sid + Nancy Shade + Light Blush Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Kat Von D Sid + Nancy Shade + Light Blush Duo
Kat Von D Sid + Nancy Shade + Light Blush Duo ($25.00 for 0.317 oz.) is a new, permanent set that features a darker pink-coral paired with a peachy-pink. The blush formula is supposed to “stay vibrant for a full 24 hours of wear” with “silky powders” that “blend effortlessly into skin for a flawless, buildable finish.” The marketing makes it unclear what level of pigmentation these should be on Sephora, but per the brand’s Instagram, they are “highly pigmented.” As we’re now at the seventh and final blush duo to review, I must sound like a broken record, but the darker shade is dismal and difficult to blend due to sheer pigmentation and chalky texture. The lighter shade was more powdery and less chalky, but it was at least more pigmented.
Sid (Shade) is described as a “bright tulip.” It’s a medium, pink-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was disappointingly sheer (a far cry from “highly pigmented”) and incredibly chalky, thin, and difficult to blend. It’s the type of texture that tends to stick to wherever there are natural oils on the skin and then doesn’t want to blend or move, which results in fairly uneven, patchy application. I have tried these blush duos countless ways (beyond what I would normally test), and even applying them over a powdered face still requires two to three times the amount of effort to blend them out than even so-so blushes. The color wore well for eight hours, which is good, just not close to the marketed claim. ColourPop RomCom (DC, $12.00) is darker (95% similar). NARS Amour (P, $30.00) is darker (90% similar). Laura Geller Boysenberry (P, $28.00) is more muted, cooler (90% similar). Guerlain Coral Blush (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). NYX Summer Peach (DC, $5.00) is lighter (90% similar). Gucci Beauty Coral Flower (DC, $49.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Tarte True Love (P, $29.00) is cooler (90% similar). Too Faced How Deep is Your Love? (P, $26.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). NYX Pinched (DC, $5.00) is cooler (90% similar). Tarte Bashful (LE, $29.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Dior Corail Bagatelle (763) (LE, $43.00) is darker, brighter (90% similar). MAC Fleeting Romance (P, $23.50) is warmer (90% similar). Make Up For Ever B316 (P, $23.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Tarte Pampered (LE, $29.00) is lighter, more muted (90% similar). NYX Apricot (DC, $5.00) is lighter (90% similar). Tarte Smashing (LE, $29.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Autoerotique (LE, $31.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Paradise Lust (Bottom) (LE, ) is brighter (95% similar). NYX Tuscan (P, $6.50) is darker, brighter (85% similar). NARS Savage (P, $30.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Nancy (Light) is described as a “ballet pink.” It’s a light, warm-toned pink with a matte finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff paired with a lightly dusty texture that was blendable. I found the shade to darken slightly on the skin compared to the majority of the other light shades, which while I expected them to, did not darken against the skin as much. The color faded after seven and a half hours of wear. Laura Mercier Sunset (LE, $24.00) is darker (95% similar). KVD Beauty Mallory (Light) (DC, ) is warmer (95% similar). MAC Blush Pink (LE, $35.50) is lighter (95% similar). NARS 413 BLKR (Highlighter) (P, $30.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). NARS Sex Appeal (PiP, $30.00) is warmer (90% similar). NARS Conquest (LE, $30.00) is lighter (90% similar). Essence Blooming (P, $2.99) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Guerlain Gold Palette #8 (LE, ) is lighter (90% similar). Zoeva Yet to Come (PiP, ) is brighter (90% similar). LORAC Luma (LE, $23.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Make Up For Ever B110 (P, $23.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). ColourPop Kiss n' Tell (LE, $12.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Sydney Grace Belle of Georgia (LE, $9.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Oh dear, I predicted F’s right across the board and so they were! Probably a variation in QC issue? It looks so nice in the pan!
Here’s hoping :/
Not your fault, Christine, and an impeccable review as always, but am I the only person to massively dislike the name of this blush? It’s clearly a reference to Sid Vicious (of the Sex Pistols) and Nancy Spungen. Has it been forgotten that he almost certainly murdered her, and at the very least it was a highly abusive relationship. I don’t mind “edgy” names for cosmetics, but this is unacceptable in my view.
You’re definitely not, Tricia! It was brought up during the announcement as well, if I’m remembering correctly.
The 7th and final (yay, for you!) Shade & Light pics show your utter frustration in a hysterically funny way in the Nancy pic! It shows in your eyes! That you haven’t (YET) thrown one of these pitiful, painfully poor quality duos against a wall in utter frustration amazes me! This duo is most decidedly; THE worst of them all. That Sid swatch? Play makeup for a preschooler!
I’m glad it’s over, lol!
Oh, I believe you 110%!
So disappointed with the performance of these blushes… and hello Temptalia! 😀 I came across your website a couple of weeks ago…and I must say I ADORE your recommendations and reviews. Nothing like them on the net! These reviews saved me from a world of let-downs from high-end products…
Thank you so much, Melissa! 😀
Sad. 🙁 Eyes and lips are great!
Thanks, Joy!
These are some of the worst blush swatches I’ve ever seen –will have better luck buying my blushes from the clearance bins at the dollar store 🙁 Really hope she fixes this mess and re-launches the product.
Me too, Katherine! I hope they get better.
WOW… can something get an F-? JEEZ.
lol!
So many Fs!
I know! 🙁 Well, at least we’re done!
If these didn’t suck, this is the duo that I would have purchased ?
🙁
It is so sad that most of the brands which did great last year (Kat Von d, Clinique etc) totally missed the mark this year *sigh*
Hopefully they’ll do better for the rest of the year!
I hope so too! *finger crossed*
These blushes have just been painful to look at. 🙁
They have been painful to use, ha!
I purchased the Shade & Light eye contour palette a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it, and I have two of her older palettes that are fantastic. I was pretty excited to see that she was launching these blushes since it seems that her line has been consistently good. I don’t wear blush and I was considering buying these. I’m so disappointed to see how bad all of these were, but at the same time I really appreciate these reviews so I know not to waste time/money on these. Hopefully they can drastically improve the formula or replace them with products up to par with the rest of the brand.
Happy to share, Nicole, even if it isn’t good news! The texture of the Shade + Light Palettes is SO much better!
It’s sad that even your swatches do these more justice than they deserve! I went to the store yesterday hoping they would be better in person but every one I swatched had zero pigment. So disappointing!
It’s so sad!!
*sobs*
🙁
I find it so interesting that you dislike it because I usually agree with you on everything, but I absolutely loved the hansel and gretel shade. I find them such a fun way to chisel the cheeks. Im so torn with my own opinion now!
If you love yours, that’s all that matters! I have found that there is a love/hate reaction to these, which either suggests serious issues in manufacturing OR that some prefer a very sheer coverage (based on reading reviews, I am seeing a higher proportion of very fair to light with preference for sheer in the love camp).
Cue the sad trombone… womp womp womp!
lol!
Well, it looks gorgeous on you, at least. =)
Thanks, Zovesta!
