Kat Von D Santa Sangre & Nosferatu Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Kat Von D Santa Sangre Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
Kat Von D Santa Sangre Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is described as a “poison apple.” It’s a brightened, medium red with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had fairly opaque color coverage that went on smoothly and evenly. The texture dried down in about thirty seconds and didn’t remain tacky for long. On me, the color lasted for eight hours with little fading, and it started to feel drying after six hours of wear. NARS Mysterious Red (LE, $25.00) is lighter, cooler. NARS Majella (P, $25.00) is darker, glossier. NARS Rita (P, $32.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. Marc Jacobs Beauty Rei of Light (212) (P, $30.00) is lighter, warmer. Urban Decay Temper (P, $22.00) is lighter. Maybelline Siren in Scarlet (P, $7.99) is lighter, cooler. Bite Beauty Candied Maple (LE, $24.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. NARS Golshan (P, $25.00) is glossier. Make Up For Ever #44 (P, $19.00) is glossier. Bite Beauty Braised Maple (LE, $24.00) is less glossy. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Kat Von D Nosferatu Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is described as a “blood crimson.” It’s a deepened, medium-dark red with subtle, warmer undertones (I think it may lean more neutral on cooler skin tones) with a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that went on evenly, but you can tell it’s not fully opaque as my lip freckle comes through noticeably. There is enough time to work with it, so you could add more product to improve payoff while initially applying the color. It lasted for eight and a half hours and looked little worse for the wear at that point. To me, it started to feel drying at the six hour mark. MAC Extended Play (DC, $18.00) is darker, warmer. NARS Majella (P, $25.00) is lighter. MAC Studded Kiss (P, $16.00) is darker, warmer. NARS 413 BLKR (LE, $26.00) is darker, warmer, glossier. NARS Charlotte (P, $32.00) is cooler, glossier. NARS Olivia (P, $32.00) is lighter, glossier. NARS Jeanne (P, $32.00) is warmer, glossier. NARS Sandra (P, $32.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. NARS VIP Red (P, $26.00) is lighter. ColourPop Avenue (P, $6.00) is darker. Kat Von D Santa Sangre (P, $20.00) is lighter. Bite Beauty Braised Maple (LE, $24.00) is lighter, glossier. MAC Deeply Adored (LE, $16.00) is lighter, glossier. MAC Viva Glam I (P, $16.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA SUMMARY | Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a “long-wear, full coverage liquid lipstick with a smooth, matte finish.” Of the liquid lipsticks on the market that go and have a full dry-down, Kat Von D’s formula remains my favorite, as it is the easiest to apply with the kindest learning curve and lasts awhile. Some shades are more drying than others, but typically they don’t get drying until after five to six hours of wear. They often wear anywhere from six to ten hours, depending on what you’ve had to eat or drink during the day. This formula is thin but not watery, has a longer dry down than most liquid lipsticks (but I noticed some of the newer shades dried to a mostly dry finish faster), and layers better than most (you can touch-up or add a second layer for more coverage). It takes about a minute for it to mostly set, but it will remain a little tacky in places for up to three minutes so you’ll want to avoid pressing your lips together if it doesn’t seem totally dry initially. There isn’t a noticeable scent or taste. If you don’t mind the trade-off between very long, near-pristine wear and being drying, it’s worth checking out. As a bonus, these also come with one of the most generous amounts of products within the realm of liquid lipsticks!

I know you may not want to approve this comment and start a kerfuffle, but I am NEVER buying anything from Kat Von D again after her latest online rant, in which she said anyone who eats meat is not an animal lover and is as horrible as that man who killed Cecil the Lion. She has alienated a ton of customers — past, present, and potential.
Totally understandable!
have you watched any documentary about the meat industry? it’s awful. how can you love animals but still eat them? i think she did a great thing, standing up for a cause that is SO SO SO important. the meat industry is one of the biggest contributors for global warming. you should educate yourself, watch earthlings, forks over knives or cowspiracy!
she did a response video on youtube that has a lot of facts that people need to hear. i actually think that this will get her more customers, especially those who wants nothing to do with the horrible industry. the majority of her makeup line is also vegan, and the rest is on its way to becoming vegan. if not it might at least get a few people to open up their eyes to the abuse that animals in the meat industry go through.
I respectfully disagree, but you will not change my mind and I won’t change yours.
And doesn’t Kat Von D wear leather and have a collection of taxidermied animals in her home? The irony!
if you watch the response video she made on youtube she explains everything. she’s very reasonable.
Usually independent groups tweak their research findings to better suit their needs. A few documentaries aren’t going to turn me off from eating meat. My husband hunts, we eat the meat, it culls the herd so the deer or turkeys don’t starve to death in the winter because their numbers are too great. I’m not going to sit here and judge and preach to anyone. You do for you, I’ll do for me, that’s how life should be.
Im not trying to sway your opinion, but you should look up her response video on you tube where she addresses some of the things you mention I.e. the leather and taxidermy. I, too was mildly offended at her statement, but the response video did help me have a better understanding of the pount she ahe was trying to convey. No offense intended at all, just a suggestion!
She can spin it and rationalize all she wants, but I’m not buying (either literally or figuratively). She insulted a ton of people with her original comments.
Nevertheless, Jessica and Jennifer, I appreciate your well-worded responses. Now, I like Temptalia and her site too much to drag this out any more; props to her for posting my original comment. 🙂
Can we all just take a moment and appreciate the wands these liquid lipsticks have?
Nosferatu is my new all time favorite red. I’m obsessed and the wand and doe foot applicator makes it dream to use. I don’t even use a Lipliner with this dark red. I’m nc15 so mistakes with a darker lip is very noticeable!
Lovesick and nosfertu are my absolute faves from this line:)
I really like how well they apply overall – even the troublemakers are typically not disastrous!
Very cool names 🙂
She does have some interesting names!
Santa Sangre definitely beat out Nosferatu for me as well. It’s such a fun shade! One of my favorite ketchup/tomato-ish shades in my stash. Nosferatu I liked and it did indeed pull just the tiniest hint more neutral on my cooler-toned lips, but the formula doesn’t work as well with there as with Santa Sangre. I’m a big fan of very blood-toned reds and it does hit the mark there, but I have so many HGs in that category (like the ever-classic YSL Le Rouge) that it wasn’t as worth it to me as Santa Sangre. Still a good’un though. Santa Sangre just hits up there my favorite KVD shades.
I’m pretty impressed by how consistent these are across the board – perfect? no, but it’s rare to find perfection in all shades – but none of them are misses so far!
Totally. They’re consistent and consistently-good. Nothing stands out as a major, huge letdown. The ones that score a little lower are workable and just need a bit more care on application or an extra layer. There isn’t a shade that just completely doesn’t work or takes on an entirely different effect than the others. Nosferatu may not beat out my all-time favorite blood reds, but it offers the shade in a great formula and finish that’s somewhat unique. They’re workhorses.
Wow, both colors are stunning! Especially liking Nosferatu. I already have the NARS dupe Golshan (one of my fave colors of all time) and was going to get NARS VIP Red, but I’m tempted to try this in liquid format
That might be a good way to try it!
I have been eyeing these two since the release! They are both absolutely stunning on you Christine! Since, I’m not a fan of this formula, I am so happy to see via the dupe list that I am well covered. I actually just ordered Temper and VIP Red! I already have the Maybelline dupe for Santa Sangre.
Woohoo!! So glad you’re covered for the color, Nicole!
Slightly off topic (I do love these shades though, Nosferatu is going on my wish list), but do you have any plans to review the rest of the Colorpop Ultra Mattes Christine?
Hi Carrie,
Yes, I will, but they were out of stock until August, so I wasn’t going to resume until after that (though they launched earlier than initially stated), so I was working through these. Unfortunately, I can only test one a day or so.
Ah, I didn’t realize it was because of the stocking. Thanks for the reply!
Man, I really like Matte liquid lipsticks, but I’m glad you have the dupes up. After her rant against people who eat meat, I don’t want to buy anything to support her hypocritical lifestyle (after all she wears plenty of leather). It’s sad because I liked some of her other products too.
Totally understand!
Holy hello!!!! Ummm gorgeous colors!
They are!
I think these are too warm for me, I like the coverage and the finish isn’t too powdery!
The finish is nice!
I tried on Nosferatu at the store and I can definitely attest to it being a true blood red color, at least against my pale neutral skin. I didn’t buy it, but maybe if it were autumn I might have picked it up and Exorcism (which is an awesome dark berry) too.
Always next trip! Thankfully they’re all permanent!
I just love red lips on you! Both shades look beautiful
Thank you, Fancie!
I have Nosferatu and love it! Thanks for the review!
(I know you’ve mentioned the dupes get populated automatically, so something might be funky – Santa Sangre lists Nosferatu as a “lighter” dupe, and Nosferatu lists Santa Sangre also as a “lighter” dupe!)
We are working on it – the whole site is redone, but it’s a feature for the new site that I had to get into the live site… but it’s a little funky. We are pushing to get the whole redo ready, but I will try to catch those with my eyes when I paste them in. Thanks!
No problem, I know how strange content management systems can sometimes be. I just wanted to help with the debugging, if I could!
It’s definitely something to do with reciprocity, but I think it’ll be cleared in the real version of the feature. It’s just taking us about a billion years longer to get the whole thing redone, and I hadddddd to have that one feature ASAP (it saves me a lot of time – I was writing out each “how it differs” part in the post as well as submitting each one as a dupe!).
Nosferatu was my first full size KVD after a few minis I have from various sets/GWPs. Daaaang I love it. It really works with my pale skin and it reminds me of a lot of my other fave darker red lipsticks (Besame Red Velvet, Too Faced Velvet) except in a no-budge liquid form. It does have that slightly tacky feel to it even long after it dries, but its so surprisingly comfortable even after 6+ hours!
Happy to hear you’re enjoying Nosferatu so much, Laura 🙂
Nosferatu is an EXACT dupe for MAC’s Frank N Furter. And Santa Sangre and Outlaw are not that different from each other. Santa Sangre has orange in it but put it next to Outlaw and you can’t even really see a difference.
Thanks for sharing, Nikki! Outlaw is a lot brighter and cooler on me, though 🙁
Sometime the shades can look different on different skin tones. I Melancholia and although it looks like a light warm tone pInk it read cool tone and a mid-tone pink on me.
Santa Sangre and Outlaw are probably on the same tonal range of red (they do look very close). Outlaw it pretty vivid on my fair skin tone but reds more like a neutral red.
I have to say that this liquid lipsticks are the best formula. Which liquid lipstick do you think have the best formula? How does Anastasias compare, I am hesitant to buy since I see too much association with all this “instafamous beauty gurus” don’t really trust their reviews.
I’m currently on a red lipstick no-buy but Nosferatu is calling my name like a siren in the sea!
All I can say is; Thank you sooo much for the Dupe List! No question now, I am getting MAC VG I in the very near future.
On another note, I cannot play with my new UD palette today, so bummed! I sprouted a stye on my one lower lid, probably from overheating and it has been awfully humid here, too! Sad! ?
~gurgle of delight~
Happy to read this as I was tossing up between these two the other day and, in the end, decided to go with Santa Sangre.
BTW, I’m wearing Susperia today and completely botched the application! Even though I like the Kat Von D liquid lipstick formula the best, some days liquid lipsticks are just NOT my friend. 😛
Iy’s strange as Nosferatu looks like on your skin tone what Outlaw looks on my fair skin tone. It’s a shade I should try out in person. 😉
I have recently become a fan of her liquid lipsticks. I have purchased the two reviewed shades in addition to Mother, Exorcism, Double Dare, a nude and purple which reminds me of Heroine by MAC. I really like them. I am waiting on several Colourpop shades. I can’t wait to try Tulle and MARS. I also purchased several shades from L.A. Girl.
I played with a few KVD lipsticks at Sephora today and came home with Ayesha, but I LOVED Santa Sangre and will definitely be back for it. I thought I had enough reds in my collection, but I don’t have anything like that one!
Just got both today from Sephora. I’m waiting for my package full of expectation!!!
Enjoy ’em, April! Keep me posted.
