Josie Maran Timeless Coral Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil Review, Photos, Swatches
Josie Maran Timeless Coral Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil
Josie Maran Timeless Coral Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil ($18.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “vibrant warm coral.” It’s a muted, medium coral with warm, reddish undertones and a glossy finish. NARS Stella (P, $26.00) is less warm-toned. NARS Salamanca (P, $26.00) is similar. NARS Paris Follies (LE, $26.00) is darker. MAC Drawn in Chic (LE, $15.00) is darker. Revlon Papaya (P, $7.49) is more shimmery. Hourglass Nectar (P, $28.00) is brighter, darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes. (For blush comparisons, look here.)
I picked this up during the sale a couple of weeks ago, because it was new and sounded interested. The formula is supposed to be hydrating and works as a tint for lips and cheeks. Josie Maran describes it as “natural-looking, never-greasy color.” As far as I’m concerned, this is only a lip product, because on cheeks, it feels oily, lightly tacky, doesn’t set or dry down, and slides around after five hours of wear. I found it difficult to wear with foundation, whether applied over or under, as the emollient texture makes applying foundation over it difficult, and applying it over foundation led to the foundation breaking down after two to three hours. I had the best results over bare skin, but they weren’t great results.
Though it felt greasy on the skin, it was comfortable to wear on the lips–very cushion-y, gel-like, and somewhat hydrating. The major downside is that as a lip product, it needs regularly reapplication as it doesn’t really leave a stain behind, and the color and glossiness wear off in two hours or less. I also found it gritty, and I don’t know why there was any grit element to it at all, but it was something I noticed when swatching both on skin, applied to cheeks, and on lips. It had a sweet, citrus-y scent and taste to it that I couldn’t really place but is there. It’s a real disappointment, because the price point is fantastic, and even better, it contains a lot of product.

I love this product! I picked up the pink and on my dry skin it works GREAT as cheek stain. Stays all day and is so natural looking. I do set it with a rice powder, but I can imagine if you have oily or even normal skin it might be too emollient. On my lips, it’s about my favorite product right now. It has healed my dry winter flakies. YAY! and the pink smells like orange cream-cycle – so yummy! I just wish the first ingredient was argan, not castor – that’s my only complaint. I want all the colors!
Happy to hear it’s worked so well for you, Teri!! I wanted to love this so bad. The price point is awesome!
Thank you for the review – I was intrigued by these, but after swatching in store it seemed like they wouldn’t work at all on the cheeks and I wouldn’t love the texture on the lips. This confirms that impression, so, skipping!
I’m glad I’m not the only who was like, “Wait… this doesn’t seem like a cheek product…”
I tried this on my lips and thought it was okay but not great – glad to see I didn’t regret not buying it!
Phew!!
It’s not surprising that it doesn’t mix well with foundations since it’s oil-based. It would probably work better on a oil based foundation (like most cream foundations). It’s a bit weird that a consumer product would be oil based. I can see it more for pro products. The color is nice, but not unique.
It felt REALLY high maintenance as a cheek product!
I’m totally in LOVE with all of the Josie Maran line.
Yay!
Interesting concept, but the reverse of most duo purpose products.. I just would not wear this level of greasiness on my face.
It’s SO weird! I don’t even LOVE LOVE it as a gloss.
Seems like it could work on dry skin, but no sense in exposing my combo skin to something so slippery. I was interested in checking this out, but I have plenty of great multiples that do as they promise and don’t require constant reapplication. Thanks, Christine! Hope some people have success with it!
I think dry skin, especially if you tend to go without foundation, might be the most suited to this!
It’s a shame because that price is just too right!
I saw these at Sephora JCP yesterday and the idea was interesting, but I think I’ll pass.
I really wanted to love these! That price!
I love this product on my cheeks but not lips (it absorbs too quickly on the lips…leaving not enough of anything behind…but is moisturizing. I have very dry skin…and reading the comments I wonder if that’s the trick…it works best on dry skin…. On me it absorbs totally and looks luminous. But I’m in dry and warm weather with skin that dries easily anyway.
Too bad it didn’t work better on you because it looks so pretty!
It just felt like I had a layer of oil on my skin the entire time, unfortunately! I have normal-to-dry skin with my cheeks being the drier area but no luck for me. What shades did you get, Megan?
I got the pink…but then also got guava and am thinking of adding one more. My skin has been so parched after the winter here being so warm that I’ve been dumping oil on it. This product has soaked into my skin too and looks dewy! I could see it not absorbing so well for those less dry, but for me rehydrating my skin it’s been great.
I reapplied this after reading your review and it did absorb…including into my lips…the latter being my complaint…it hydrates them beautifully but the color doesn’t last. Maybe this product is best viewed as a combo color/skin care? Thanks for the review!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels like that about this product. Previous reviews I read were all good, and I was starting to doubt myself. 😀
Never doubt your own experience, Ellie! Even if you’re the only one, that’s your experience, you know? Great products that work on 90% may not work on 10%, horrible products that don’t work on 90% may work amazingly on 10%!
I tried this in Endless Honey and I really liked it. I actually liked it more as a cheek product than as a lip product. As you said, it slides around on lips and you have to reapply, although it is hydrating.
As a blush I quite liked it. It gave me a really natural flush (similar to the new MUFE cream blushes) that lasts for 6-7 hours. However, I never tried it over foundation, only on bare skin or over BB cream. I don’t know it that makes a difference? I have oily, NC42 skin.
I think I mentioned in the review, but applied over bare skin, it lasted five hours on me, which is OK but not good. Glad you liked yours, Roshini! 🙂 Maybe some shades are better than others!
I was so intrigued by this that I was getting this close to getting myself one – now I won’t have to! Thanks Christine, your reviews are always so informative and helpful!
Happy to help, Aditi!
Thanks for the review!
I did an initial swatch in store this past week, while fragrance sampling for triple points @ sephora, and was really on the fence…
Sure thing, Wenz!
So sorry this didn’t work for you! I hated it on my lips (barely showed up), but I loved it as a blush. My skin used to be combo / oily and is now normal to dry. I’ve gotten great wear with the shades I’ve purchased. Believe it or not, my favorite is Everlasting Honey.
Ooh, you’re so lucky! I really wanted to love these!
Aw, it’s such a pretty shade, what a shame that it doesn’t work well on oily skin.
So bummed! I’m normal-to-dry, so most things last a decent time on me!
Aww, this looks so pretty! (Mmm…sheer coral…:-D). It’s a shame it didn’t quite meet expectations! I still think I want those other JM cheek/lip things – the gelees? Whatever the product, I want them mostly for lips, anyway! 😀
I don’t think I’ve tried those, but maybe those will be next to consider!
This looks interesting! I may have to try this out.
Let me know how it works out for you, Shipra!
I love corals so when I saw this in store, I HAD to swatch it. Unfortunately, it didn’t even show up at all, and I have a light complexion!
Oh no!
It’s too bad this doesn’t perform well because it looks so pretty! Plus you really do get a lot of product for just $18
I know, so sad!
These caught my eye the other day and ever since I have wishing I had picked one up. I think they would work well for my cheeks, especially because I have very dry skin. Thanks for the review!
No problem, Abby! Good luck!
The Josie Maran national MUA was at my local Sephora and he gave me two great tips for the Always Cherry infinity Oil I’d already purchased: 1) layer it over the “matching” cheek gelee and then it will wear all day (I got 12 hrs!), and 2) use the Sephora Pro Flawless Airbrush brush, #56, to apply/buff the Infinity Oil. He said to either dot 2-3 dots of the Oil straight to the cheek then spread/buff with the brush or put some on the back of the hand and use the brush to pick it up and apply. Because the product is so loose, that dense brush really helps with precision. Meanwhile, I LOVE the Chanel cream blush and think it’s kind of genius, but I find that this looks more like a natural flush than the Chanel. It’s like Benetint, but a little more substantial, maybe?
Similarly, it works best when layered on the lips too. I put it over Bite Beauty’s High Pigment Stick (in Tannin for the reds), which I blot down, and I’m also mixing in some Fresh Lip Treatment in Passion for some SPF.
I’m glad you’re loving yours, Lauren!
I was very interested in these too but after swatching one in Sephora I said “Nope, not for me”. Same issue, too emollient/oily for my normal skin and humid weather combo.
I can’t even imagine these in humid weather. Holy goodness!
This seems like something I would prefer to use as a lip product, especially on the days when I’m staying in.
Will you be picking up a shade to try, Danielle?
Sounds yucky! Too bad!
I know! I was super sad about these.
I am so glad you did a review because I was a little intrigued and wanted to try the product out. Definitely will pass!
No problem, Marlene!
I feel queasy at the thought of using an oil based cheek product on my oily skin. Its too bad its not so great as a lip product either!
I didn’t think it was going to be *that* oily, lol, but I should have been more worried!
