Huda Beauty Purple Haze Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Purple Haze
Huda Beauty Purple Haze Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette ($29.00 for 0.45 oz.) includes four matte eyeshadows and five shimmer eyeshadows. The shimmers had a tendency to be thicker, denser, and/or stiffer, so they were harder to pair with the thin, powdery mattes. I actually had the best luck applying the shimmers first and then layering the mattes on or around; if I did it the other way (which keeps mattes more… matte when blended), the shimmers lifted up or created patchiness with the mattes.
The shimmery shades worked best with fingertips; they were harder to pick up evenly with a dry brush, and a dampened brush sometimes created too much slip that resulted in an uneven layer of product. Unfortunately, with two shades, using fingertips made the pans more compacted (and therefore stiffer) after just a few uses. The mattes were extremely powdery, thin, and prone to fallout and sheering out.

Purple Haze #1
Purple Haze #1 is a medium-dark, coppery red with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had a denser consistency that had some slip but did not apply well with a dry or dampened brush; it really worked best with fingertips, which helped to get the product to adhere evenly to my lid. It had good pigmentation but was hard to pick up evenly with a brush to get it. This shade lasted for seven and a half hours before creasing faintly on me.

Purple Haze #2
Purple Haze #2 is a medium red with subtle, warm undertones and slightly cooler, ruby red pearl and a metallic finish. The consistency was soft, creamy and dense but not as emollient as the other shimmers in the palette–more like a traditional eyeshadow–and picked up well with a dry brush. It was intensely pigmented and stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Purple Haze #3
Purple Haze #3 is a dusty, medium-dark purple with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had sheer color coverage that did not build up well, and it had poor adhesion to my lid, even when I tried it over primer. The powder was just so dry and powdery with little ability to stick to my skin. It had a ton of fallout, looked uneven, and then was easily lifted/pushed around by the thicker shimmers in the palette. There were signs of fading after five hours, I think, but it was so patchy and sheer the whole time that it was hard to evaluate.

Purple Haze #4
Purple Haze #4 is a light-medium, rosy copper with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It appeared darker applied than it did in the pan. The texture was slightly creamy, dense but not as thick as some shades in the palette, but it was still substantially thicker than the matte shades in the palette so it did not blend or diffuse well into the mattes. It had opaque coverage that lasted for eight hours on me before fading a bit.

Purple Haze #5
Purple Haze #5 is a light-medium peach with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was drier, extremely powdery, and thin with a lot of fallout and a tendency to sheer out as soon as one went to blend it out. It had good pigmentation as long as it was blended out, so I felt like it was primarily a texture issue. This shade stayed on decently for six hours on before showing signs of fading.

Purple Haze #6
Purple Haze #6 is a medium purple with warmer, pink undertones and a pearly sheen. It had an incredibly stiff, dense formula that did not pick up well with a brush–wet or dry–nor fingertips. After using my fingertip to pick up and to apply product, the pan seemed even stiffer and more compacted. It has only gotten worse in pigmentation after subsequent uses… and the best one could achieve was medium coverage, which did not blend out well. It wore for six and a half hours before fading visibly.

Purple Haze #7
Purple Haze #7 is a muted, medium-dark coral with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was difficult to build up as it was incredibly powdery with a lot of fallout. I felt like I was able to build up after three or four attempts to do so, as it was one of those two steps forward, one step back kind of situations. There were signs of fading after six hours of wear.

Purple Haze #8
Purple Haze #8 is a very light pink with muted, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer coverage, which was not buildable, and resulted in a ton of fallout with any attempt to do so. The consistency was extremely powdery, which made the semi-sheer pigmentation sheer out further with additional fallout (even without trying to layer more product on). It lasted for five hours before fading noticeably.

Purple Haze #9
Purple Haze #9 is a blackened purple base with flecks of lighter purple and silver sparkle. It was dry, stiff, and dense, which was an all-around nightmare to pick up with a brush. When I used my fingertip, I was able to get decent coverage that adhered to my skin, but the pan steadily compacted with each use and became unusable after four attempts. It seemed to wear for around five hours on me, but when eyeshadows perform so badly, it really gets hard to see if they’re fading and the like.

I have exactly one Huda beauty e/s palette that I still use (the 9 pan Mauve) and it isn’t perfect, but I love the colour of three of the matte shades and it is still miles above this.
I have 9 huda obsessions ? (yes I am a bit… Obsessed by them) and the mauve is one of the best, in my opinion. I’ve currently panned 6 shades to 9 (And I am close to pan other 2), that a record for me! Unfortunately, I think mauve (and warm browns that is excellent too) has been discontinued. Why? To be replace by something like this mess?
Well.
I did not see that coming. I mean pastels are hard to do, so i understood why their pastel palettes perhaps didn’t fair too well (horribly) but what is their excuse here?
Yikes! It’s a pretty color story though, if it would have been done better. It seems like they used the term “Haze” to excuse the poor pigmentation. ?
Honestly I wasn’t expecting this result! As ‘obsession’ fan, I’ve seen a couple of video around the net and people where comparing the formula of the haze obsession to the one of the mini nudes, that were very good in my opinion. Instead, it seems me that these are closer to the pastel obsessions. Really, Huda what are you doing? I accepted to struggle a bit when it comes to mint obsession, since it was such a particular colour story, but is not acceptable here, since this palette is basically a repetition of her old stuffs (amethyst, liliac, mercury retrograde, new nude…) Hope that the other two are going to perform better.
I decluttered my one and only Huda palette a long time ago and have never gone back for more. I just have never been very impressed with the quality or colors.
PURPLE HAZE in Huda’s brain
But these shadows just don’t work the same
So much fallout and I don’t know why
‘Scuse me while I pass this by
BWAH-NAH-NAH BWAH-NAH-NAH
Congratulations, you have won the internet for today.
???
Died laughing ?. Saw Jimi once. We won’t go there. Always glad for a m/u earworm & you know this will boomerang back in my brain when least expected and wanted, lol.
Your comment might have redeemed the existence of this palette, lol
LOL. Yikes
Speechless. I’m left with NO words (at least none that are printable!). ?
I have never seen such average formula from Huda before and probably neither has anyone else. Otherwise this palette had such promise. What a disappointment to those who were looking forward to this purple gem.
Wow. Huda has been on a downward trend this year.
What the heck!!!!!!!!!!! Shame on you Huda!!
If you are like me and bought it because purple and don’t want to return it, I hope this helps. Treat this palette like a Korean palette. I found that shade #3 can be applied as a single wash of purple color, then gently press #9 as a wash of sparkle. I am using eye shadow primer. Is this ideal? No, but it makes it work if you don’t want to send it back. The positive for me out of this mess is that I can’t find any KB palettes that have this color story.
What a shock! Well, that was the only one I would have considered. Thanks! One less palette to buy. 😉
