Huda Beauty Khaki Haze Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Khaki Haze
Huda Beauty Khaki Haze Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette ($29.00 for 0.45 oz.) is a new, nine-pan palette with five matte eyeshadows and four shimmer eyeshadows. The mattes were fairly powdery to the point where a few shades were sheer or prone to sheerness (once I started to spread or blend them out), and they were thin and somewhat dry. The shimmers were thicker and denser, so they worked better applied first rather than layered over the mattes to avoid pushing/lifting up the thinner matte shades. The quality was all over the place, unfortunately.

Khaki Haze #1
Khaki Haze #1 is a deeper, more muted gold with subtle, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. It had medium color coverage in a single layer, which was buildable with a second or third layer, it had to be picked up aggressively with a dry brush to do so. The texture was firmer and stiffer to work with, and it seemed to pick up better with a fingertip, though this compacted the product over time. As a result, I felt like I had to rough up the surface with a paper towel or a dry brush by jabbing and pushing at the surface to get it “working” again. It lasted for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Khaki Haze #2
Khaki Haze #2 is a light-medium, pinky-peach with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer to medium coverage, at best, which darkened when applied to my skin. The consistency was extremely powdery with a thinner, drier feel to it, which did not layer as well with the shimmers as they were thicker. The darkening resulted in a patchier color, so I’d make sure to apply over a drier primer/set base. It wore decently for six and a half hours on me.

Khaki Haze #3
Khaki Haze #3 had a warmer, peachy base with a pink-to-gold shifting shimmer paired with a metallic finish. It had good color payoff in a single layer, which applied fairly well with a dry brush. It did not apply as smoothly as I would have liked, so it could look more textured and had some patchiness when I looked closely at it–from a normal viewing distance, the shine and sparkle distracted from that. This shade stayed on for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Khaki Haze #4
Khaki Haze #4 is a muted, darker taupe-brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had such a powdery consistency that resulted in a fair amount of fallout when applied to bare skin, but it also had a tendency to sheer out. I was able to build up from medium coverage to semi-opaque coverage, but it was a nuisance to work with; one of the more powdery matte formulas I’ve encountered, so it wasn’t just slightly powdery! The color lasted well for seven hours before fading a bit.

Khaki Haze #5
Khaki Haze #5 is a medium, olive-brown with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a slightly olive-green lean to it when initially applied, but it faded and darkened slightly (even when I tried it over primer) to more of a brown than a green (or khaki). The texture was soft, somewhat powdery but blendable and yielded nearly opaque coverage in a single layer that wasn’t prone to sheering out too readily. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Khaki Haze #6
Khaki Haze #6 is a deep gold with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer, though it got progressively weaker in payoff if I used my fingertip as it just compacted so readily (even when I tried NOT to do that!). It was a drier formula that emphasized my skin’s natural texture to some degree, too. I actually had better luck using a dry brush and pushing and jabbing at the surface, which dislodged product and made it so I could pick it up. This shade lasted decently for seven hours before fading a bit.

Khaki Haze #8
Khaki Haze #8 is a darker, coppery coral with strong, warm undertones and flecks of pink and gold sparkle over a metallic sheen. It had good color coverage that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was drier but not as emollient nor as thick/firmly-pressed into the pan as some of the other shimmers were, so it was actually easier to work with. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Idk, but your eye look turned out quite nicely? I’m guessing that this is more due to your eyeshadow expertise than to the product quality, though. Which means I could get it to work. But I’m lazy, so I’ll revert to using my CR Safari Raine, Huda Emerald golden olives, and if they haven’t dried up, CP Hammered and So Quiche. Not sure yet.
So disappointing, a khaki color story seems like such a great palette otherwise!
The colour story had me curious but I’m glad I waited for this review. It’s just not worth it, considering the weight of the product is smaller than in earlier Obsessions palettes with less than 1 gram per pan.
Easy pass, but is it just me, or do the metallics look a bit odd in the pics?
I was actually so excited about this one that I tried to recreate the palette using shadows I already own. I don’t know how close I came but I put together a few pretty looks! I’m going to pass on this one and focus on what I already have
I was tempted by these colors, but I’m glad I waited for your review! Deleted from cart, ??
Where are the 5 star Khaki shades in this? Not one genuine Khaki shade at all and it is a very, very disappointing product from Huda.
I love this eye look, Christine! The quality of this palette is disappointing though and since I didn’t love the formula in the smoky obsessions (which I think was reasonably well reviewed), this is a pass.
This look did inspire me to recreate something similar this morning mostly using ND’s Bronze and Glam palettes and my Coloured Raine Golden Olive single. I think I got close enough. I usually like the simplicity of sticking to one palette, but I might as well force myself to get more creative with what I own and love! Thank you for the review and inspiration!
I love your eyelook! I thought this was a good color story of olives and rust. Glad I waited for the review, thank you. I think I’ll recreate this palette.
