How do you decide what fragrance to wear?
Sort of by mood/desire – like what do I want to smell today – but also by what I haven’t worn in awhile!

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! The weather is a factor (heavy, spicy scents are cool/cold weather choices) and also where and what I’m doing on any particular day (some of my schools are scent free locations and also if I’m going to be working up close with students, I’ll choose something light and fresh smelling).
I usually just look at mine and one jumps out. Or if they are having a sync day on the forum I belong to, I will join in. Today was fragrance starts out as one thing, then develops into another. So citrus but then becomes an oriental.
I have a “default” fragrance for when I don’t have time to think about it, but usually I choose based on mood or any special considerations the day calls for. I don’t have a very big collection, but if there’s something I haven’t been wearing much and I miss it, I’ll reach for that.
Venue (open vs closed), mood also plays a huge factor, and because I live in the desert; the time of year!
I usually just go by my mood.
I have a stash of really ‘good’ expensive scents that I wear for special occasions and I also have a stash of perfumes that I use for an ‘everyday’ kind of wear. I generally pick one of my everyday scents (located on top of my dresser in the bedroom) to use. I like to rotate my scents and perhaps choose one that I haven’t worn for a couple of days.
I’m these trying times I keep everything simple and that means wrapping myself in my cocoon of Dior Addict…when all is out of whack it’s important to me to feel calm, secure, fresh and centered…Dior Addict allows all of that and more to me.
That is a beautiful choice!
Combination of mood, weather, and what I’m going to be doing that day/night.
I try to match the color and mood of my outfit. (tan trench coat – Chanel Beige; velvet goth ensemble – Velvet Orchid) I do have one perfume specifically for rainy days.
At the moment I’m using an app to choose for me.
I input all of the fragrances I have and then spin the wheel.
I do use the same one for work each day and then have the wheel choose for me when I’m not at work.
First by season, then month, then by whether I want something special/noticeable or not, then by mood. I have to have a multi-step system because I have upwards of 200 fragrances lol
Concur with the first part of your comment; may mood and what I enjoy the smell of at that moment or what I feel I want to smell like for a given event.
