Guerlain Rouge Parade (820) Rouge G Lipstick ($54.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “luminous red.” It’s a brightened, medium red with very subtle cool undertones (it has more of a pink base, which makes it appear more neutral than strongly cool or warm-toned) and a soft, luminous shine. MAC Sparks of Romance (LE, $16.00) is more matte, darker. MAC Oblivion (LE, $16.00) is more matte, more muted. NARS Annabella (P, $32.00) is warmer. MAC Ruby (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC True Love’s Kiss (LE, $16.00) is similar. Too Faced Melted Ruby (P, $21.00) is cooler-toned. Estee Lauder Vengeful Red (P, $30.00) is similar. Anna Sui Minnie Mouse (01) (LE) is similar. Tom Ford Beauty Vampire Kiss (LE, $50.00) is similar. Marc Jacobs Beauty Neo-Noir (126) (P, $30.00) is slightly warmer. Urban Decay 69 (P, $22.00) is similar. Edward Bess Eternal Passion (P, $32.00) is similar. Maybelline On Fire Red (P, $7.49) is slightly cooler-toned. Buxom Provocateur (P, $21.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The consistency is lightly creamy–enough that it glides on easily without tugging while yielding even, opaque color coverage in one stroke–but it doesn’t slip around, so the color stays even, no matter if you press your lips together. Unsurprisingly, this rich red lasts for eight hours on me and is hydrating from start to finish. Rouge G is one of my favorite formulas, because the formula is comfortable to wear, pigmented, and moisturizing–my lips always feel even nicer after wearing one for awhile. Though this is a lovely red, it is rather dupable, which is the only downside to it. This particular shade comes in a red lacquered case, but it has the same style and features as regular Rouge Gs (and it is hefty). There is a very light violet scent (I didn’t even notice it initially, but it is there in the tube).

How lovely. Now the big question is if I buy this or one of the MAC dupes, as I think Novel Romance still hasn’t launched here. MAC makes good lipsticks, but Guerlain lipsticks are divine, at least I love the only one I have, Madam Battifole, or something like that.
Oh, decisions, decisions 🙂

I actually justified the purchase of garconne by telling myself that it was a fancy red, and I was probably going to wear a fancy colour like that to fancy occasions…. and how classy would it be to whip out that hefty contained with built in mirror during an intermission in a theatre and reapply!

I think my heart just skipped 5 beats! I was writing this collection off as a typical holiday collection, but with the way Guerlain does things, I am sure there will be a lot to love. Rouge Parade is very beautiful on you! I really like the finish.

Veronica Avatar

It’s beautiful, but I was hoping for a deeper red for the holiday. With the pink base, it could pull slightly fuschia on me. I guess the whole collection is going to be a pass, which is a shame because the packaging is do pretty. Ah well, you win this round NC girls. 😉

That, my dear, is a gorgeous lipstick- fit for a princess from packaging to color to performance! Every lady should have one of these to pull from her pocketbook at just the Right Moment! Looks absolutely beautiful on you and suits your coloring so well! Thx for the review, as always!

Got it today and am absolutely loving it. Delightfully it’s not pulling pink on me at all and instead staying a very true red. Looks cooler on my lips than yours (which is common). And it has that magic Guerlain depth where it looks quite different from Gala (more of an everyday pink-red on me) and Garconne (looks bluer-toned) on me. Of course the product itself is the same amazing quality as every Rouge G. Best consistency around.

Please start giving these $50 lipsticks F scores! This is so pretty and to hear how well it performs just adds to the temptation! As if there isn’t enough already!!!
Lovely on you.

well i have nyx elektra, fire and chic red…wasnt sure which one would suit me so i bought 3 :p. i know u made a review a long time on chic red but the picture is darker. i actually compared the 2 side by side from your swatch gallery but can’t decide… are they similar enough? if you could please check my wallet would thank you a bunch…

ale Avatar

tnx a bunch. i’ll be skipping on the lipstik then.
i already want the hourglass blush pallette, a cle de peau highlighter, the kevin aucoin contouring shade and the dior star foundation…boy that’s a lot of money…why do i have such expensive tastes? :))

Andie Avatar

Gorgeous! Love it. I already have too many reds (especially after that Rocky Horror launch), but it’s great to see a lipstick perform this well.

Everything about this lippie is lovely! Even at this price point, and the fact that the color is pretty dupe-able, I’d still purchase it for its formula, pigmentation, & staying power! The exquisite case makes it even more luxurious in my opinion.

Gillian Avatar

I absolutely adore Rouge Gs but the colour, although beautiful, isn’t especially unique. I have Garçonne already and was thinking about getting Gala. I couldn’t see a swatch of it on here to compare with Rouge Parade. Are they very similar? If so what would you recommend I get? Not that I should be buying either of them since I have quite a few red lipsticks already but I just love the Rouge G formula!

Denise Avatar

Being the proud owner of half a dozen Rouge G’s I would have been surprised if you’d have given a lower rating but knowing how you love ’em too I was rubbing my hands with glee when I saw the photo and thought” this’ll be an ‘A'” even before I saw the review! That said, I’m gonna have to pass as I have quite a few reds already (from Guerlain and Givenchy and Giorgio Armani – all of which are fabulous) and what with the cost of these babies, I really want something out of the ordinary colour wise to tempt me to buy one.

Sylirael Avatar

Oh Gods, I want this so bad… >_<

I think I have a dupe already, and I'd feel better about the $76 they cost here (price drop! 😀 :-D) if it were a colour I would wear every day…but then what Liz said about being able to whip it out on special occasions and feel ULTRA FANCY…

..and that gorgeous red packaging…. T_T

Oi! Wallet! Where do you think you're going? STOP! Come back!

Kimmy Avatar

Oh my gosh, this is stunning – I’ve just had to pick my jaw up off the ground! It’s so expensive but so tempting. And notwithstanding the luxurious packaging, the product itself looks divine on your lips. I’ve not owned a Rouge G before…..maybe start with this one.

Olga Avatar

How does this compare with Rouge G Garconne? I’m a sucker for reds but I’m trying to tell myself I don’t need this one since I have the former. >_<

Rhonda Jones Avatar

Christine…..How do you keep your skin so clear?
What are the skincare products you use?
Thx
Rhonda
PS THE RED LOOKS FAB ON YOU:)

Jade Avatar

Between MAC Lady Bug, Lady Danger, Russian Red, Viva Glam Rihanna, (plus theBalm Vanilly and Thesiah Matador Red, though I don’t like the formula on those) I certainly don’t have a shortage of reds!! This, though, is still extremely tempting…!!

Quinctia Avatar

Oooh, another enameled packaging.

Hoping/Dreading one comes out in a color I’d absolutely love, because I like these tubes much better than the normal ones, but $$$…

Lotus Avatar

Gorgeous! Simply stunning, and you look beautiful! May I please ask how this cool compares to the regular case G color in Gala? 21? Thanks! I’ve both in my cart, trying to decide. 😀

Laura Avatar

Christine, I LOVE this red.. it is absolutely gorgeous on you! i NEED it, it is out of stock ATM, but it will not allow me to put my email in to get a stock update..? is it already sold out??? i quite literally just added it to ‘my loves’ a few days ago.. it can’t be gone from sephora already, can it? 🙁
Thank you Christine!!
