Guerlain Spring 2011: Rose Desir

Guerlain Rose Desir (71) Rouge G Lipstick ($47.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a soft rosy pink with pale pink and white shimmer. It has a slightly glossy finish and semi-opaque color. It has a little milkiness to the base color. This particular shade is new and limited edition for spring and comes in special edition black lacquered packaging. (You can see the black lacquered packaging here.)  It actually feels a bit more like the Rouge G Brilliant formula than the typical Rouge G–not quite as opaque, still very emollient and creamy but not as long-wearing.

my thoughts on the formula: Long-time readers will know that Guerlain’s Rouge G formula is one of my absolute favorite lipsticks, so I always look forward to new and seasonal shade releases. Rouge G colors have certain nuances to them just seem to make them more flattering when worn. The formula is moisturizing, long-wearing (four to six hours), and comfortable to wear–never heavy but generally opaque in color. I’m still crossing my fingers for refills, because as elegant as the case is, so much of the price must be attributed to it, and it would be nice to be able to reuse it.

The one thing I noticed about these is though the weight feels the same (we actually whipped out the scale, it was a 0.06 oz. lighter), the magnet enclosure seemed slightly weaker. If you throw ’em around, the black lacquered case’s lid will fall off easier than the metal one (which also slips off if you put it through the tests we did, haha). I carried one in my purse all day, though, and it was fine.

final thoughts: It’s a beautiful springtime pink, and though I don’t have a laundry list of dupes for this exact shade, there are enough springy pinks that you could pass on this shade if you only want to save your $47 for the most unique of the Rouge G line-up.  This shade will work for warm and cooler skin tones.

Waaahh… It looks sheerer than I expected, but pretty color though.

I wanted to collect it because of its cool black packaging… Maybe I’ll get Orange Euphorique or Fuchsia Delice instead coz I’ve seen their swatch and they looked beautiful!

Thx for the swatch, Christine! 😀

You are so lucky getting a sample of this! I’ve been lemming for a while but I’m also lemming the new chanel blush (which isn’t out here yet) and Nars bateaux ivres. I need to cut down on my make up spending, my family and friends are on to me about it! 🙁

I’m not a huge fan of Rouge Gs myself. The formula just feels mediocre to me, and the fact that the packaging isn’t reusable or recyclable drives me bananas. This color really suits you, though. (How is it that you look good in EVERY color?!)

very soft pretty look on you. def liking it best in the face pic, closeup seems lighter but full face shows soft & pretty. love the purple liner! ransom?

damn, just noticed price. *sigh* I bet there are similar dupes. as far as “value” ratings is that compared vs other lipsticks or all MU products or?

Christine Avatar

Value is quantity/price compared to comparable brands within the category – so Chanel against Dior, Guerlain, etc. Urban Decay against Stila, Smashbox, etc. Drugstore brands against drugstore brands.

I look at how much most other designer/high-end brands give and how much they charge and whether the brand is above, below, or about average to other brands.

Very nice color although it lacks of pigmentation and just too expensive – 47 bucks for a lipstick is like stealing money from people’s pockets!!

What a sweet, girly pink! This looks so wearable, I only wish it wasn’t so expensive! I love all the Rouge G colors, and I’d probably drop the money for the right one… My problem is that they’re all so pretty, how am I supposed to make up my mind!?

No matter how I look at it, I cannot justify the price tag. Especially for a rather uninspired color. I can do $24 for a NARS lipstick – hell, I could even understand $32 (right?) for a Chanel lipstick. But $47 for packaging is absurd.

Love! But I can’t decide between this and Fucshia Delice! I am fair with rosy complexion and green eyes and black hair and both warms and cools tend to suit me. Help! I can only get one!

Ok, after trying this and the Fuschia Delice today at Saks, I chose this! I figured for $47, I want a shade that I am going to wear ALL THE TIME. This is gorgeous and I will be wearing it tons. The Fuschia was really pretty too, but lighter cool toned pinks never look right on me.

Sad, I LOVE the black packaging, but don’t like any of the colours. Can’t stand to pay $47 just for spiffy packaging. I guess that means I can save my $$$ and pick up one of those cle de peau extra rich lipsticks though! Do you know if cle de peau has said anything about a spring collection yet?
