Guerlain Pause d'Ete Terracotta Bronzing Powder Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Pause d’Ete Terracotta Bronzing Powder Duo
Guerlain Pause d’Ete Terracotta Bronzing Powder Duo ($82.00 for 0.60 oz.) swirls together to create a warmer, medium orange-brown hue with a frosted shimmer. The gold is an overspray (which I tried to remove, but a bit of it lingered), while the browner shade is a medium-dark, golden brown, and the center shade was a light-medium coral-orange. Too Faced Luminous Peach (LE, ) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Suqqu Hanachaori (02) (P, $34.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Linda (LE, $24.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). NARS Esoteric (LE, $30.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Trace Gold (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Guerlain Terra India (LE, $53.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Surratt Beauty Angelique (P, $32.00) is more shimmery, more muted (90% similar). Clinique Golden Glow (P, $27.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Center of the Universe (LE, $34.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Wet 'n' Wild What Shady Beaches (P, $4.99) is less shimmery, more muted (85% similar). MAC Perfectly Poised (Outer) (LE, $34.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). It is housed in a wooden compact where the top lifts off completely and is held on by magnets. If you have a very small, tapered face brush, you could use the two shades separately, but it will be hard to avoid dipping into the other shade if you use an average-sized cheek brush. The powder is fragranced with “notes of orange blossom, tonka bean, vanilla, and white musk,” and it is heavily scented, but it wasn’t that noticeable applied. The texture of the bronzer was a little firmer but smooth, while the center shade softer and looser, so I felt like when I swirled my brush in the pan, I always got more of the center shade on the brush than the bronzing component. The powder applied well, blended nicely, and was easy to use; the shimmer didn’t emphasize pores or the skin’s natural texture. On me, it wore for eight hours.

Not really excited about this color, but you’ve got to hand it to Guerlain – they know how to create a stunning presentation for their products!
And while I don’t personally appreciate heavily fragranced cosmetics, I have to admit that the scent description sounds delicious.
I wish they’d start doing it with regular blushes, though! I feel like we see a Terracotta every year but less new blushes!
Wow, what a pretty color, love the gold shimmer! But my wallet is safe since Guerlain loads their makeup with fragrance
Easy skip 😀
Clarins’s new LE bronzer for summer is going to be similar – a pinker middle and then a more bronze “donut” around it. I am not a fan. Last summer, Clarins had an amazing bronzer that was similar to the Guerlain 4-seasons ones (I think someone is a copy-cat at Clarins) but it cost considerably less and was really lovely. How I wish they’d bring that one back. It was such a success that it sold out really fast and I had a hard time getting my hands on one!
Ha! That is funny that two years running there has been some similarity 😉
I’m really digging these Amber sort of shades that I’m seeing all over this season. I don’t own any of Guerlains bronzers but this one really appeals to me!
Do you think you’ll try this one?
I’m a little bit of a sucker for makeup that’s pressed with an actual design, and I actually think this color is really pretty… but I’m not going to spend $82.00 on a blush that may or may not make me look sunburned. Even if it does sound like it’d smell really nice.
It’s huge, but it is soo pricey for one item!
I really like this but I’m very glad I already have NARS Esoteric which I love, so I don’t have to splash out on this! Lol!
Perfect 😀
It’s a first! With Guerlain I usually love everything they release. Even if I don’t like the product I love the packaging and vice versa. I can actually say I don’t like the colors or the packaging on this one. The scent sure sounds great though.
Wow! I am impressed 😉
I’m a bit confused. In your full face picture it looks like you’re wearing two entirely different colors on your cheeks. One side looks apricot and the other side looks pink. Did you use the apricot and bronzer mixed together for one side? But then what about the other pink side? As I said, I’m a bit confused since you didn’t mention any additional cheek colors in your Makeup Look box.
Hi Eileen,
As always, the product featured in the review is on the cheek facing you in the photo – I swatch different colors on each cheek, in order to swatch more than 2 per session (my cheeks can only handle removal + application two or three times before I’ll pay for it the next day).
I’ve always wondered how you remove and reapply cheek color in the same session. Do you remove your entire base every time, or do you only wipe the cheeks? But then how do you get your foundation/powder not to look patchy at the edges of the area you’re reapplying? I’m just curious 🙂
I don’t apply base to my cheek area, I apply the cheek color to bare skin.
Oh man! The design is stunning! I think this might work as a blush on my skintone due to how peachy the overlay seems to look in the swatches!
Hope you can check it out, Stephanie!
This bronzer looks beautiful with the eye look you have created, but on the arm swatch it doesn’t look as finely milled as to what I have come to expect from a Guerlain face powder product (blush excepted, of course).
I really like that eye look, I will not purchase the quad, but I am sure I have the same or similar hues in my makeup catalogue. Btw, I miss your “looks” and “tutorial” posts, I still read the old pages for inspiration when I get stuck with colour combos.
Ah, you’re one of the few, Kristina 😉 Thank you!
No, she’s not! But we know you don’t have time, given product coverage. You have a web-wide reputation for that, and a gazillion others are doing looks and tuts. You are the one for systematized, unbiased reviews. Who else out there can not be bought? Pretty much nobody. And we know who I’m lookin’ at…
Thank you for the pep talk, KJH! 🙂 You are always very sweet and uplifting for me!
I love your tutorials, Christine! You always have the best eye looks. But I feel bad about asking for them because you already produce so much content!
Looks really beautiful on you Christine, but it is oh, so, expensive…..
It is pricey!
Ugh, it’s so pretty, but I don’t think it’s worth the price tag. What a bummer.
I think you have to LOVE bronzer, because it’s a ton of product!
I am in love with the shade when it’s been swirled together! Just perfectly sun-kissed effect going on here. BUT $82 for a heavily perfumed face product? Idk if I could stand that. Or my importantly, could my SKIN itself deal with it, or hives galore?
Me and fragranced face products have a long, storied past!
Well, you just saved $82! 😉
I’m actually glad the gold is just overspray. I really like the shade that the brown and pink combined give!
This is such a beauty! But at this price I’ll have to pass…
Pretty too look at but I’ll pass, it’s more the warm toned folks.
I hope one day they do something cooler-toned for summer… just to be different.
It’s way too orange to be a bronzer, as are a lot of Guerlains bronzer’s. And, I thought they were the original and implied to be the benchmark of all bronzers?
I purchased the bronzer. I absolutely love it! It smells amazing, like tahitian flowers. It applies evenly and gives me the best bronzed look! Probably the best bronzer I ever owned (and I did owed a lot working in the beauty industry!) This bronzer/blush is not orange at all! I am applying it with Marc Jacobs large bronzing brush. LOVE!!!
Awesome!
