Guerlain #235, 588, 677 Sheer Shine Rouge G Lip Colors Reviews & Swatches
#235
Guerlain #235 Sheer Shine Rouge G Lip Color ($33.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a medium, reddish-copper with moderate, warm undertones and a natural sheen with very faint pearl. It had medium color coverage in a single layer, which didn’t build up much more than that.
The consistency felt lightweight, thin without being clingy, and had enough slip to apply evenly and without tugging but didn’t feel particularly slippery when worn. It could have been more smoothing to my lip lines but did soften them slightly. It wore well for four hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview
$33.00/0.09 oz. - $366.67 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have a "sheer shine" finish; so it has a "luminous effect" on the lips with "6 hours of hydration" paired with "sheer" coverage. They had more medium to semi-opaque coverage, nowhere near "sheer" or a "veil" as the brand described; the coverage really didn't feel like a massive departure from the original Rouge G range (which is classified as "satin").
They had a smooth, lightweight, and thinner consistency that glided easily across my lips and was comfortable to apply and to wear. The majority of the range applied evenly without emphasizing my lip lines, but I did not find that the formula was as successful as smoothing out my lip texture and lip lines as the original range has been.
I think the satin Rouge Gs actually have greater shine--they're glossier and richer in look--compared to the sheer shine finish, which just seems to be less emollient and slightly less pigmented. The sheer shine finish has a bit more pearl, on average, compared to the satin Rouge Gs.
The wear time ranged from three to five hours but was shorter-wearing, which I find common to thinner, sheerer formulas like this one, so it was on par for formulas of this type. It was lightly hydrating but not as nourishing as I'd expect based on claims as well as past experience with Guerlain's lip products. There was a subtle, sweet, floral and vanilla scent but no discernible taste.
Keep in mind that Guerlain's Rouge Gs are sold as refills that can be put into a separate case. The refill has a small, plastic cap, which is serviceable but likely not going to be durable enough for someone who takes their lipstick on-the-go or for traveling--more suitable for sitting in a drawer at home.

#588
Guerlain #588 Sheer Shine Rouge G Lip Color ($33.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a light-medium, pink-coral with subtle, warm undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single layer, which could have applied more evenly. There was also product that sank into my deeper lip lines, though it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance.
The lipstick had a lightweight consistency with moderate slip but was more emollient than most shades in the range. It stayed on nicely for four hours and felt lightly hydrating while worn.

#677
Guerlain #677 Sheer Shine Rouge G Lip Color ($33.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a soft, light-medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a natural sheen with very faint pearl. It had semi-sheer coverage–one of the least pigmented in the range, and as a result, closest to the brand’s description!–that applied fairly evenly across my lips.
There was a smidgen of product that sank into my deeper lip lines, which was only visible in the close-up photos but not something I could detect in person. The texture felt lightweight, thin but not clingy, and it had enough slip to glide on during application but didn’t feel slippery while worn. It wore well for three hours and was lightly moisturizing over time.

Thank you always for reviewing the Rouge G’s. It’s incredibly helpful to see the photos of the swatches and to count on your review before I purchase!!
None of these are rocking my boat. Although I do like the color of #235, I would be far more likely to buy either Shiseido Sleeping Dragon or something along those lines where it doesn’t appear so flat. Could probably find something amongst Sephora Rouge Lacquer line or Revlon Melting Glass Shines for most of these.
#235 lipstick is almost the same shade as Colour Pop’s Foolish….at a fraction of the price and is much more pigmented.
How right you are about that, Genevieve! They are super close!
All three of these are lovely. I’m impressed they pulled off sheer, very light pink so well.
I like the #235 shade because it is so like Colour Pop’s Foolish, which I adore and is much more pigmented.
I am just not digging these sheer lipsticks though.
My vote for color is #677. That said, they are very pricy for the ratings.
I almost picked a few of these up just Cos I love the cases that were released with these. But this just doesn’t seem worthy of being part of the rouge G collection. Anyone know if the cases are permanent?
