Glossier Dawn Cloud Paint Review, Photos, Swatches

Dawn

Glossier Dawn Cloud Paint ($18.00 for 0.33 oz.) is a vibrant, medium orange with warm, red undertones and a natural finish. It had sheer, buildable coverage–almost semi-opaque with three layers–that applied evenly and easily over bare skin. The product has a lightweight, thin gel-like texture that has more airiness than a true liquid but wasn’t as watery as some liquid blushes. It was easy to apply and diffuse on my cheeks for even, smooth coverage that had a natural finish–almost dewy but not tacky or sticky. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before it started to look slightly faded.

Formula Overview

$18.00/0.33 oz. - $54.55 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have a "pillowy, gel-cream" texture that is "seamless, sheer, and buildable" that is designed to be applied with fingertips to the cheeks for a "healthy, flushed-from-within-glow." Their strength is in their airy, gel-like texture that's ultra-lightweight but more substantial than a runnier, watery cheek color, so I felt like it was a bit easier to spread the color onto my cheek area and get an even application of color early on. They were easy to work with on bare skin, and the texture worked well without any makeup as it sat naturally on the skin and let my natural skin texture and finish come through.

They worked fairly well over foundation but creamier foundations that don't set as well did not seem to play as well with it as some (I had great results layering the formula over Tarte's Rainforest of the Sea but less stellar results over ColourPop's No Filter Foundation). I liked application with fingertips or a stippling brush, but I tend to prefer fingertip application as it seems to allow me to cover a greater area with less possibility of disturbing my base products, though for blending more dried down color, a brush is better.

The coverage was as described--sheer and buildable--but they're going to be best suited for someone who prefers the look of a cheek stain over more opaque or pigmented color. They absolutely had a natural finish; they did not feel tacky after application, but they never looked flat or matte to me. They're buildable with the respect of getting slightly more coverage and a deeper, less watercolor-esque application with two to three layers. I preferred to build up in layers for best improvement in coverage as applying more seemed to end up with product across a larger area than more intense coverage. The blushes lasted between seven and nine hours on me.

I didn't love the packaging, because I felt like too often a small squeeze pushed out more product than necessary and often seemed to squeeze a little more out even after I had released pressure.

I don’t know anything about Glossier, but these Cloud Paints look like a really interesting product. I don’t use liquid cheek products, so I won’t be purchasing, but if I can ever manage to get my skin to a point where I don’t need foundation, I will probably start seriously considering liquid blushes.

Very pretty. Though this might be like Hot Tin Roof, but not so much at all. No one besides Glossier carries its products, right? That would be a good brand for Beautylish to pick up.

Another really beautiful shade. I may have to pick one up and give it a try. It seems like I use to see and hear a lot about Glossier but haven’t so much recently. It may have to do with my having gone through my YT subscription list and removed about 3/4 of the channels. I think I always intended to pick one up and give it a try but always found other things I wanted to try first. I am looking for a couple of blush shades to fill a couple of holes in my shade range. I still don’t have a blush that I love using with a deep blue based red lipstick. The perfect one escapes me, LOL!

This is precisely my favorite type of orange blush! It has enough red in it to not give me a jaundiced look, and sheer enough to not appear too “out there” (and I don’t mind going “out there” into the Twilight Zone: Nars Fetishised, anyone?)
Glossier has begun to make tiny inroads into my “to consider buying from” category.

How does this do over foundation/BB Cream? They look lovely but I worry it will cause my base to move. Have you tried the Boy Brow? How does it compare with “ the Balm”- Ka-Pow or other eyebrow jelles?

Joanne, I’ve been using Boy Brow for several years. It’s Glossier’s first and still best selling product. It’s a perfect product for people who have fairly full brows already. Definitely not a dramatic look, just great enhancement.
