Givenchy Rose Dressing (202) Le Rouge Review, Photos, Swatches

Givenchy Rose Dressing (202) Le Rouge ($36.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “bright coral pink.” It’s a bold, brightened pink-coral with a luminous shine and a creamy finish. MAC Elegant Accent is warmer, less pink. MAC Watch Me Simmer is very similar. MAC Hear to Heart is slightly pinker. MAC Force of Love is pinker. Guerlain Giulette is lighter, more shimmery. Chanel Phoenix is glossier. See comparison swatches.

Le Rouge is supposed to have a semi-matte finish, be long-wearing, and have rich color. It’s fully opaque in one stroke, and it has a lightweight, creamy consistency that’s comfortable to wear and hydrating while worn. Rose Dressing lasted five and a half hours on me. There’s a very faint scent that’s supposed to be mimosa and black currant, but I was hardly able to detect it in the tube and definitely not when applied.

One of its “features” is the leather wrapped around the tube, which while it looks nice, feels thin and prone to scratches and tears. Because of how thin it felt, and I would be afraid to toss it in a bag, because I could leave imprints and scratch it with my nails alone (I tested it).

Is the packaging a little loose on your Le Rouge, Christine? Mine is.. When I wiggle the cap (the one with the leather lining), the lipstick bullet itself falls out. 🙁

Like that I see the “:love it” or “leave it” button outside again. You generally dont like Givenchy so this is a nice surprise and this color does look good on you. The container looks pretty but it is getting ridiculous that 30 plus dollars is the norm for a high end lipstick.

Christine, I’m going to have to ask you to stop looking so dang gorgeous in everything. 😛 I want just about every lipstick you wear.

Seriously, this colour is so pretty on you and aughhh do wantttt.

GOSH! The packaging is so luxuriously gorgeous, it’s insane! The colors suits you very well. However, I reckon it would work better on darker skin tones?

Is the consistency as creamy as YSL rouge voluptes? Your description sounds the same, and YSL rouge voluptes are too creamy to me.
🙂

ADORE this color!

Can anyone recommend a slightly lighter version of the same shade? I’m thinking along the lines of FACE Stockholm’s “French Martini” for J. Crew. I’m in love with that color, but the formula is awful!

I have rose taffetas, brun createur, and the two new summer LE shades. This is my new favorite HE formula. I still love Tom Ford and Guerlain, but this are so nice and long wearing! Nice to finally see a review of these 🙂

Christine honestly this is the best lipstick I’ve seen, you look incredible, amazing and beautiful. =)

I need to save to buy it.=(

I think it’s safe to say I’m one of those “coral fiends” since as soon as I saw this on Facebook I thought “if it has a good rating I have to have it!!”… And then I look at the dupe list and I own four of the lipsticks you mentioned. I might still go to Sephora and try it on though… : /

Gosh, I REALLY like the shade!

It’s nice and opaque, but it is not too pigmented that it looks cheap. But I don’t think I could spend $36 for a lipstick.

Thank you so so so much for this post! I have been wanting MAC Watch Me Simmer since it launched, but I never managed to get my hands on it and couldn’t bring myself to spend the $60 people listed it for on eBay. I immediately grabbed this off eBay for $26 (which is more than I usually prefer to spend on lipsticks, but it is $10 less than Sephora’s list price for it and still a heck of a lot cheaper than spending the $60 on Watch Me Simmer) as soon as finished reading this post.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Christine this lipstick looks great on you, it really suits you. I´m currently interested in 201 Rose taffetas from the same line I think that would be my next lipstick purchase, but this color is also pretty and I love the packaging. This lipstick looks very luxurious really 🙂 .

I have a Givenchy lipgloss, although I love the color I can’t stand the taste of the lipgloss. It has this strong chemical taste to me…. to the point I have to eat a mint after I put it on LOL Does the lipstick has that taste as well??

P.S. I think burberry’s lipstick has a little of that taste as well but not as strong

Aww thanks!! 😀 I guess I am just really sensitive (or maybe I am used to Chanel’s Rouge Allure and Dior Addicts) but I have to try for myself b/c this color looks soooooooo amazing on you, I feel like I must try it!! 😉

I’m not sure how I missed this one. I swatched pretty much all the ones at sephora. I may have to pick this one up…eventually. I still have to “recover” from my skin care overhaul. It is a gorgeous color though.

What the name “Rose Dressing”, I would’ve thought it’d be more pinky-red. But I lovehow coral-pink it is!

Coral-pink lippies are my fave. This one looks so pigmented and luscious! ^^
