Free for Haul Friday, Volume #218
Welcome to Free For Haul Friday!
- Haul: I bought and received a new Dior Fusion eyeshadow from Sephora yesterday, and I’m hoping the ones I ordered from Nordstrom arrive today!
- Weekend plans: I have so many photos to edit and products to review and hope to get through them this weekend! Cross your fingers for me!
- Do you save birthday cards (or holiday cards, get well cards, etc.)?: Only occasionally–if someone sends one with a really heartfelt message that’s personalized from them to me, then I will keep it, but otherwise I recycle.
Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! 🙂
This week’s Mellan photo/video…
Still smashing in his bow tie! He also looks SO trim in this photo!
Didn’t buy anything this week but oh my goodness I had to leave a comment because look at that face!! I love Dorito ears (that’s what I call when ears are straight down in a triangle :D). I love his little rug, too!
LOL! Dorito ears – haven’t heard of that before!!
Haul: I bought a couple of OPI nailpolishes (a shimmery purple and a shimmery orange) for a friend’s birthday!
Weekend plans: loads of work to go through.
Do you save birthday cards (or holiday cards, get well cards, etc.)?: YES! I actually have a lot of cards on my walls. My sister makes me a card for every special occasion and they’re always the funniest I get. I love them! I’m actually well known in my circle of friends for being in charge of birthday cards: we all write in them, but I’m the one to buy them. My personal trademark for cards is to copy a line or two of a poem I think fits the personality of the receiver (since, you know, Dickinson or Keats or Frost say it better than I could)
Ooh, how fun that your sister makes you cards! Those are always nice to receive 🙂
I always cackle in advance when I get them! 🙂
Haul: I got he Naked 3, MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Shadow Duo ($12CAN!!!), Murad Clarifying Mask, Tarte Power Couple Amazonian Clay Blush & Bronzer Duo, SEPHORA Eye Pencil 12hr Wear Waterproof in 06 Blonde Ambition and the NARS BI 500 point package.
On a random note has any heard if Sephora is dropping Shu Uemura and LORAC? I went to add some items from those brands to my likes cart for later and their gone from the site!
Weekend plans: Taking down the family tree/decoration.
Do you save birthday cards (or holiday cards, get well cards, etc.)?: My Mom collects the family cards to keep.
LORAC is gone, and I don’t think they really sell shu in the U.S. at Sephora so that I’m not sure about!
hmm maybe they just have the line at flagship/larger stores because the one I go to in Toronto Eaton Centre has the line.
Shu has been off Sephora for a couple years now, I think. LORAC is also gone, which was recent. I’m so mad about no more LORAC at Sephora.
Seriously! I don’t get why Sephora is dropping the lines that are more difficult to find in favor of the mainstream brands that can be found in any department store… Honestly, if it weren’t for the fact no other store near me carries NARS, I’d skip Sephora altogether. I buy everything else from ULTA now, since I can actually earn real discounts on future products.
I’m not sure why they no longer are carrying it. With theBalm gone and now LORAC, I’m starting to wonder what other brand will go next. Hourglass?
LORAC, even with the PRO Palette, is still such an underrated brand. I’m kind of tempted to pick up a back up of that palette out of fear that I won’t be able to find it again, lol.
Haul: From Guerlain’s spring collection I bought the bubble blush 02 Cherry (LOVE!) and the rouge automatique 144 Insolence (so, so bright. It will take some getting used to). Zoya had a sale, any 3 free polishes with $12 shipping, I chose Normani, Livingstone and Dream. I got another bottle of my eye makeup remover, Origins Well Off. I went into CVS yesterday and I saw the new stuff from L’Oreal that were B1G1-50% off so I got the gel nail polish system and one of the gel polishes in Bold Bordeaux and I also got two of the new Infallible shadows in Gilded Envy (LOVE! I think it might be extremely similar to Chanel’s Epatant, which I’ve aways wanted, but never bought) and Timeless Blue Spark (I can’t resist a blue shadow). My skin has been incredibly dry lately so I got the Cera Ve moisturizing cream, because I heard it’s fantastic for very dry skin.
Weekend plans: no real plans other than watching the Godfather trilogy ;).
Do you save birthday cards (or holiday cards, get well cards, etc.)? Only the very special ones.
Nice – happy to hear you’re enjoying the new Cherry blush, Aida!
Haul: Revlon “Provocateur” Lacquer Balm, Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Lipstick in “Neon Red” and MAC “Hellbound” Lipglass (Magnetic Nude Collection). Gorgeous purchases inspired by your reviews Christine!
Weekend Plans: Study, plan for upcoming events at work (I work in the Foreign Service in my country and we’re preparing to host a visiting delegation for a week), relax, recover from a sinus infection 🙁
Do you save birthday cards etc?: Yes I do actually. I left my country to go to the UK in 2009 for my undergraduate degree. Since there are approx 5000 miles between the two countries, I carried all of my cards with me in a box – “best wishes for your studies” cards, “congratulations” cards, even birthday cards. Whenever I felt homesick [especially in winter which was a totally new experience for me], I would curl up on my bed, open my box and read my cards. I cannot possibly describe how much better and more motivated I felt, knowing that there were so many people who loved me, wished me well and were rooting for me to succeed. I am planning to leave again soon for my postgraduate studies and will definitely be taking my treasured box with me 🙂
Aww! I love what you do with your cards, Jennisa! 🙂 That’s really lovely, and I’m so glad that it helps you feel better!
Where is the rug from? I’m looking for one with a pattern like this. Thanks!
I bought it at Target last week! 🙂
Haul: I bought the limited edition jack black lip balm set from sephora and a rollerball of Lady Gaga Fame perfume (which smells like angels in my personal opinion). I also got Philosophy Clear Days Ahead acne facial cleanser and Josie Maran argan oil light in the mini size on sephora.com… both of these purchases I used to redeem some VIB points for the D&G Femme Intense deluxe samples they have available this week… one for me, and one for my mother in law.
Weekend Plans: Doing dump runs to get the house ready for sale, possibly a double date consisting of pizza and apples to apples (best party game ever), and Christmas 2.0 with my brother in law and his squeeze since they missed the big one last month.
Question: I only really save the neat ones. My aunt hand makes all of her cards, so I always save those. I also save the really sweet ones with letters written inside them.
I want to buy the Jack Black lip balm sets, but I have like 25 tubes still so I’m trying to resist, lol!
I’m thinking about getting the Giorgio Armani Master Corrector, The Balm Mary Lou Manizer and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder – Diffused light. I’m currently on the lookout for some place that has all three because it’s painful to pay for shipping.
Ooh, good luck! I hope you can find a one-stop shop!
Haul: bareMinerals The Wild Thing Eyeshadow Quad. Its so pretty, but that chartreuse is throwing me off. Elf St Lucia contouring and blush powder and the small stipple blush (both impulse buys at target!). Josie Maran Coconut Water Color Cheek Gelees in Poppy Paradise, Berry Bliss, and Honeymoon Honey. They’re really interesting blushes. Finally, a Tweezerman eyelash curler in rose gold because I’m still on that rose gold kick.
Weekend plans: Visiting family.
Do you save birthday cards (or holiday cards, get well cards, etc.)?: Yes, I’m insane. I’ve saved every single one I’ve ever received. My favorite is probably one that my friend doodled on a piece of line paper when she didn’t realize it was my birthday. I really have to learn to let things go ha!
LOL! The chartreuse is sooo pretty in that palette, though! It is a very interesting color combination and can be tough to try to wear on its own!
When I saw it in person I was surprised by how pretty it actually was, but I just don’t know if its going to look good in any combination on me. I’ll experiment at home though!
Haul: L’Occitane skin care, OPI nail polish and some goodies from the new MAC collections! It’s been a good week 🙂
Weekend plans: Game time with the boyfriend. And no, that is not a code word for sexy time 😉 It’s literally game time.
Do you save birthday cards (or holiday cards, get well cards, etc.)?: Only the really special ones. But I throw most of them away.
What game are you guys going to play?
Hi Christine!
As always, love Mellan!
I have no hauls and no weekend plans to report except the usual house stuff!
The only cards I keep are the ones from my husband. I have them starting from waaaaay back then when we were in high-school! I also occasionally keep cards from others if they’re fancy. LOL!
Completely unrelated question, but where did you get that rug Mellan’s laying on? Is it considered a beige or a grey? I’m looking for the exact same pattern for my house, but in a grey tone. There are tons online, but I’m too scared to buy in case the colour isn’t right! Thanks!
Hey Christina!
I got it from Target last week! I’d actually call it taupe – so a mix of gray and brown really. More gray than beige, but definitely not full-on gray.
Many thanks!
I don’t believe I’ve purchased any makeup this week, but I did get a pair of denim leggings (jeggings?) from Target.
*watches new news report about the Target breech WELL THIS IS NICE LOL*
LOL! You know, we only go to Target maybe once a month or less, sometimes way less… and of course, we actually shopped during that time period of the breech!
I went on a one month no buy.
So I dropped 170 dollars yesterday. Bought tom ford cognac sable, tom ford flush blush, mac half n half, and mac heroine
I had a gift card so I just paid 7 something for heroine. I hadn’t planned on buying or trying it on. It’s suprisingly flattering. I thought it’d be out there like a blue lipstick. Even though I can easily rock candy yum yum.
And I had been looking at tom ford blush and es for years biding my time, I finally caved and bought it.
So my curiosity for tom ford has been satisfied so I prolly won’t be buying anymore tom ford I think.
Did you not love your Tom Ford products, Ms? Not worth the wait?
I haven’t tried them yet. So don’t know. I think what I was saying is that I bought tom ford cos I was curious about tom ford es and blush, espcecially blush since everyone everyone raves about them so much. Now that I have bought them, I have no interest anymore.
The chances of me being wowed enough to wanna buy more eyeshadows and blush by him are pretty low, especially at $78 and $56 now.
Gotcha! I thought maybe you had tried and was disappointed!
After a year of loving from afar/swatching I finally bought NARS deep throat. And I got a back up of my pro long wear concealer!
Enjoy your new blush, Shannon!
Haul: Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate and DreamTone Ultimate Dark Spot Corrector, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light (still on the fence with this, need to try it out a couple more times before I decide to return), TokyoMilk Dark Tainted Love No. 62 (finally found a store that sells the bottle!), Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge,Complete Gwen Stefani OPI collection, Butter London polishes in Champers and The Full Monty, Formula X polish in Gemini and The X Look set, Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner in Snow, Smudge Crayon Waterproof Eye Color in Rose, After Glow Lip Color in Vivid Violet and Rave Red.
Plans: Hubs, the baby, and I are going to a friend’s baby shower. We’ll see how that turns out. O_o
Cards: Yes, but only from close family. I have a box full of several years worth. I have a pile downstairs I need to add to it. New year, new cards to leave on display.
Nice haul, Wendy! How is the longevity of Tainted Love No. 62?
Haul: Maybelline Color Tattoos in Nude Pink and Just Beige, LE Brocades Nail Polish in Silver Swank.
Weekend Plans: Work, and hopefully editing some photos for blog posts. It takes a huge load off to get all that done so I can focus on writing later on. I also want to bake some cookies. 😀
Do you save birthday/holidays cards?: Like yourself, Christine, I will save it if it’s from a special person or has a special message inside.
Are those new shades? I don’t remember them, but I could just be blanking.
They are LE, unfortunately. They appeared during the holiday season. Just Beige is supposed to be a dupe for MAC Soft Ochre and Nude Pink is supposed to be a dupe for MAC Painterly.
Ahh, gotcha! I swear, I miss ALL the good stuff. And I check my local drugstore two times a week!
I don’t have Painterly, so I can’t compare, but I don’t find Just Beige & Soft Ochre to be dupes, at all. However, when used as a base, both are definitely comparable. I love SO, but I think JB is a bit better!
Haul: I’ve recently bought Fresh’s Rose Face Mask- which I love. So hydrating! It’s pairing nicely with my Chantecaille Detox Clay Mask. My Missha BB cream samples shipped, which is awesome. And my birchbox should be here soon! I also got a free sample of Guerlain’s Orchidée Impériale eye and lip cream in the mail, which I’m SUPER EXCITED to try! It shaping up to be a good week/weekend.
Weekend Plans: Work, work, work. I have gigs all weekend (I’m a musician). On the bright side, It’s playoffs! So I’m excited to watch (or probably re-watch) those.
Do you save birthday/holiday/etc. cards? Oh yeah. I have some from when I was in elementary school still. I dunno why, I guess I’m just sentimental.
PS: Your doggy is SUPER CUTE. He looks like a dog my dog would love to be friends with 😛
A hydrating face mask? I might have to try! 🙂 Sounds really nice.
Do you have a team you’re rooting for, Katherine?
P.S. – Mellan loves everyone and would be happy to have another doggy friend 😉
Haul: nothing (I haven’t had time this week)
Weekend plans: marking, shopping for groceries for my students’ culminating cooking tasks, more marking and some yoga. A friend is in from out of town; I hope we have a chance to go out for coffee together
Yes, I keep cards – I have a big drawer full of them (my husband keeps his too – birthdays, mother’s/father’s day, anniversary, etc.)
I hope you’re able to find some time to spend with your friend this weekend, Mariella 🙂
I save some cards, most of the time for the picture on the front. I collect things with pansies on them, so cards with those I keep, plus really cute pics or pretty pics that I can maybe use as art and cards I can use for crafts (like Xmas cards into ornaments).
Ohh, Christmas cards into ornaments? I haven’t heard of that before!
The one I know best is the one my grandmother used to make. You cut out a pic you like from a card in a geometric shape, punch holes evenly around the outside, and then crochet a super simple edging around it. Usually you use a regular sized hole punch and yarn, but if you made small ones, a smaller hole punch and crochet cotton should work.
Oh, thank you! I might have to try that next year!
Haul: Urban Decay eyeshadow in Laced, L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Gilded Envy, Rimmel liquid eyeshadow in Chestnut Taupe (gorgeous color…takes a bit to dry and creases like a mofo on my hooded eyes but what doesn’t).
Weekend Plans: Night shifts all weekend, plus getting in contact with my sister’s sister-in-law to be so we can go dress shopping since the wedding is now t-5 months. 9_9
Do you save cards? I usually only get them twice a year (birthdays/Christmas), so I’ll display for a few months before tossing them. 🙂
Any cream eyeshadow that takes a bit to dry = 🙁
Honestly, it wore pretty decently for a liquid shadow, even without a primer underneath (and I have oily lids in addition to the hooding). The creasing wasn’t any worse than any other cream shadow I own. It was just that “cold and wet” isn’t a sensation I’m used to on my eyelids. 😛
Hi cute puppy! I love the pup photos!
He wiggles for you 😉
Apparently, I bought everything in the world this week. That may be a slight exaggeration, but it feels like it is true. I got a Stila palette (In the moment) that is all purples and warm tones, Stila “cha cha”, Cargo “green bay”, and some Sigma brushes (E25, E30, E40, and F05).
What a fun haul, Lesley! What are you most excited about?
No hauls for me (unless you count a massive – and very necessary – trip to the grocery store!)
This weekend will be about the same things all my weekends are – sweating it out at ballet, and then sweating it out over my thesis 😛
Mellan looks awesome in that bowtie – the next Doctor Who, perhaps? 😉
Sounds like a lot of sweating 😉
Haul: my Skinceuticals spf 50, a Kat Von D eyeliner for only 10 dollars (I really wanted the Dolce and Gabbana 500 pt perk, so with the free VIB shipping code 10 bucks was a great deal-I had to explain the “free” VIB program to my husband though, ha ha), and my Chanel cream compact.
Weekend plans: today was my first day back to school (I’m a teacher) since Christmas break, so recover from that!
Cards: I usually save all cards from my two boys. Love the bow tie!
Which Kat Von D eyeliner did you get?
Napolitano. This is my first one from her, and it’s very nice. Reminds me of Urban Decay Smog, my true love 🙂
Mellan looks like a puppy in today’s picture :D!
Haul: No haul this week either, I’m still trying to be good after so many Christmas expenses (unfortunately, these expenses were not makeup related!)
Weekend plans: Take Christmas decorations away – we usually leave them until after January 6th, because in Mexico we celebrate the Three Wise Men’s visit to baby Jesus as well 🙂
I do save the cards that are especially meaningful for me – I still have some from family and friends from long, long ago!
He looks soo trim in the photo! He is, but even more so than in real life.
One of our things to do this weekend is to put away the Christmas decorations, too. Always makes me sad because they’re so pretty.
Haul – CHANEL Reflexion gloss and aahhhhhhhhhhhhhh am super happy and it looks wonderful on me ( sorryyyyy but as i picked without trying am little more excited …. pls ignore self praises here )
weekend plans – I want CHANEL bronze universal and going to mall today to try that … pls say “rashmi , its not worth it” ….. any other BETTERRR option dear ?
Cards – hmmmmmm , noooo not now but earlier i use to …
ANMOL is sitting right next to me , and yeahhh again asked me to roll screen up and down 2 – 3 times to see Mellan 🙂
So happy you’re loving Reflexion, Rashmi! I knew it would be lovely on you. Chanel’s bronzer is nice, but it’s not revolutionary. I don’t wear a lot of bronzer, though, so I don’t get too excited over any of them!
One day, you’ll have to get Anmol his own Mellan 😉
I bought so much in the Last two weeks during my vacation in the US. I shopped at the CCO, Sephora and Ulta. This weeks highlights were the UD Naked 3, MAC Mineralize Brush Set, Marrocon Oil trial sizes and NARS TM.
WE Plans: going to Sea World today and flying back home tomorrow (don’t want to…)
I don’t save cards.
Have a safe flight home, Claire!
Haul: Nothing 🙁 I’m on a long-term no-buy. I was in a hit-and-run on the 27th, and on Wednesday night a deer ran into my car, so all my spare money has to go to car repairs (on both ends of my car). Sad cat. 🙁
Weekend plans: Vampire the Masquerade LARP tonight, cleaning house and getting caught up on work tomorrow. Hopefully no more car accidents!
Do you save birthday cards (or holiday cards, get well cards, etc.)?: If it’s a very special card, or something with a nice message written in it, I’ll save it; otherwise, they’ll stick around for a month or two and then get tossed. I have one tucked away from the 90’s that has a voice recording of my grandfather (who passed away shortly after he gave me the card), and I will listen to it when I’m having a very bad day.
I hope you’re okay, Jill!! And I hope your car repair bill isn’t too rough on you.
Haul: L’Oréal Infallibles in Always Pearly Pink, Gilded Envy, Purple Priority, & Burst Into Bloom. I also picked up the new Herbal Essences Cleansing Conditioner, which is supposed to be a “dupe” for WEN. I’ve never tried the WEN, but I really like the HE!
Plans: Laundry, groceries, etc…
Cards: No, they get tossed almost immediately. I have far too much makeup, clothes, shoes, bags, etc., and my daughter has way too many toys & clothes, so we have to draw the line *somewhere*, lest we end up on an episode of “Hoarders”!
I ended up tossing cards, because I would keep them and NEVER, ever looked at them again – not after years – so as I moved to a college dorm, to an apartment (and several more apartments), cards went out (other than a few more sentimental ones).
Haul: I am on a no buy / product 10 pan (including skin care samples), so no haul allowed. I shopped my stash last weekend and discovered Burberry Tangerine Blush (I go compliments at the office for looking fresh and relaxed
Weekend plans: Nothing special like grocery shopping, having a bath, some workout, laundary, watching tv etc.
Do you save birthday cards (or holiday cards, get well cards, etc.)?: I usually collect them in box and some years later I go through them and toss them away.
Shopping your stash is always a good idea 🙂
Haul: I bought something totally un-makeup related this week. It’s a phone case with a quote I really like on it, and a sticker with a quote from my favorite book! (Looking for Alaska).
Weekend Plans: Wrapping my mind around going back to school on Monday after winter break… D:
And doing all of the homework I’ve slacked off on haha
Do you save birthday/holiday/etc. cards?: Every single one! I have ones back from kindergarten, I think they’re always nice to look through again 🙂
And your dog is so cute!! Makes me miss my dog, I haven’t seen her in two weeks because I’m out of town!
Aww, hope you can see your dog soon, Julia! 🙂
