Haul: Nothing so far but probably going to ink for the printer. I want to print pictures at home.
Weekend plans: I’m currently living in a disaster area, so I’m taking some down time to clean
How often do you travel?: at least once a month, sometimes more
Haul:
BH Cosmetics: Take Me Back to Brazil Pressed Pigment Palette. Arrives next week.
Chanel: Ombre Premiere Longwear Powder Eyeshadow (36 Desert Rouge), Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner (928 Eros). Yay, Chanel brought Eros back! I was sorry I hadn’t bought a backup.
ColourPop: Crystal Liquid Highlight (Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Aquamarine). Arrives tomorrow.
Dame Perfumery (10% off): Monsoon EDP Spray, New Musk Man Cologne Spray – bought the full sizes since I loved the samples I had ordered!
DedCool – Collection Sample Pack. Curious about this niche fragrance brand. I saw the brand while looking for something to buy on Neiman Marcus with my gift card. They haven’t shipped yet but were very nice and told me they were backlogged and would “throw something in” for the inconvenience. Pretty awesome customer service start anyway.
Forever 21 (10% off): Note Professional Eyeshadow (Blue), Note Smokey Eye Pencil (Copper). Also, FYI Forever 21 now also carries Beauty Bakerie! (Pretty cool since the site does discounts and are on Ebates whereas the brand isn’t.)
Sephora: Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Nearly Neon (Nearly Neon Purple); Sephora Collection Foot Mask (Almond, 2); Benefit Dandelion Deluxe Sample Set (GWP); Samples – Jo Malone London English Pear & Freesia Cologne, Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Fresh, Maison Margiela Replica Lipstick On; Point Redemptions – NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (Let’s Go Crazy), Givenchy Rouge Interdit Satin Lipstick (Fuchsia-In-The-Know). Super happy – apparently I can wear Bite now. No allergic reaction! Maybe it was the kind of dye in the last few products I bought, not sure.
Sephora: Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick (Cava, Éclair). Placed this order a few days ago – sephora hasn’t shipped yet.
Ulta ($20.50 off): Memebox I DEW Care Disco Kitten Mask, Note Ultra Rich Color Lipstick (08 Brownie Pink, 24 Black Violet – BOGO ½ sale), Makeup Revolution Camouflage Corrector Palette (thanks Katherine!), Beauty Break GWP 5 pc Bare Minerals Gift (shade Vanilla).
Ulta ($3.50 off, free ship): Butter London Glazen Lip Glaze (Fairy Dust, Platinum early access), NYX Super Cliquey Matte Lipstick (Chain Reaction), Essence Metal Shock Lipstick (Pink Metallica 04), NYX Slip Tease Full Color Lip Oil (Fatal Attraction)
Weekend plans: I have a hair appointment scheduled for tomorrow morning. My stylist recently moved from Ulta to a spa. Pretty anxious to checkout the spa! Might schedule some other services if they’re good. I have a 3 day weekend since I had scheduled Monday off. I’m going to try to keep things low key since I’ve been dealing with some personal medical issues as well as some potentially serious medical issue my daughter has.
How often do you travel?: Rarely. I’m trying to work on changing that.
Looking forward to your swatches. Swatched the BLG oil slick today. Nice! I can wait for a sale. BL goes on sale fairly often at U. I liked the Memebox/Dew pink calamine mask a lot. Please post your face with Disco Kitten. Sounds as if one looks like the Tin Man! Dk that F21 had beauty bakerie…I’m half a century beyond their general target market, so never go in. Will now. You have also piqued my interest in Devinah.
Thank you! I might pick up some of the oil slicks on sale too. Don’t need them enough to buy full price. Ahahahahaha – doubtful I’ll post a pic with the Disco Kitten but yes, i think it’s a tin man look! Probably like the Glam Glow one (although I’m not a big Glam Glow fan.) Will touch back and let you know if the mask actually works though or if it’s just another gimmick. I’m beyond the target audience for Forever 21 too but they surprisingly have a good range of cosmetics. I also like quirky and silly things; especially for my home office. Places like Forever 21 are really great for that. Devinah is a really solid brand. Have really not been disappointed by them. So far, they have some of the best true duochrome highlighters (powder) on the market, solid unique shades for matte eyeshadows, their shimmers are very good, and they make the best match for me on a fair-light cool toned contour shade (I buy Sandbar). Watch for sales though since they have them all the time.
I hope you and your daughter become well Michele and that everything turns out fine.
Thank you.
Hoping no serious medical issues for either you or your daughter!
Thank you.
Haul: After my Tom Ford duo, I’ll need to take a few weeks off 😉
Weekend plans: Driving to Atlanta for the weekend to see family friends from Belize! We’ll be BBQing and laying around by the pool (insert scary face because swimwear). I’m just super excited to see all my friends’ kiddos!!
How often do you travel?: Lately, it feels like a lot! (Probably once a month). Since we’re so far from family & friends, traveling quite a distance is required to maintain those relationships well! But for adventure? Like never.
Christine, do you think you’ll swatch/review the Sephora blush palette? No pressure… just wondering 🙂
Also I was like THIS close to hauling a Boxycharm subscription because this month’s products are great. But I’m terrified I’ll get a random box without those goodies or they’ll end up being products I don’t use. Thoughts, everyone?
I’ve looked at those beauty subscription services, even watching unboxing videos on YouTube, but it seems like my money would be better spent targeted on makeup I really want.
I’d rather order something I know I want from Sephora and get to pick the three free samples you get with every order, than spend money every month on a box of stuff I may or may not like.
Hi Joyce. I’ve been getting both the Ipsy and Sephora Play boxes. I like the Sephora box better than the Ipsy. I’ve never really gotten a complete dud, but I like that I can go to the Sephora and buy what I like from their box. The only brand I’ve gotten from Ipsy that I know is Nyx and I don’t care for them. I did get several very cute makeup bags though and I just give away anything I don’t like. I’ll probably stop that one as I just signed up for the Macy’s box.

Weekend plans: Resumes……
How often do you travel?: Not too far, family all lives in Ontario, I travel to Toronto for events, so an average of once a month max.
Haul: Estee Edit Radiance Activator Treat ++ (I can’t remember the other “pluses”), Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, Phyto Phytolisse Ultra Glossing Serum (I got it because of the description – “cheveux indisciplines” – I LOVE that description and the English put a smile on my face too – “rebellious hair”!!!! I had to give it a try and it turns out I love it. I also got samples of 2 of the Glamglow Illuminating Moisturizers but I’m not impressed with those and much prefer the Estee Edit product.
Weekend plans: Celebrating Bastille Day tonight (that’s when hubby and I met while we were at school in France), gym, taking in alterations and a purse that needs repairing, visiting with a friend who’s in from out of town
How often do you travel: not as much as I’d like but certainly more than when we had young kids, dogs, cats all at home. Now, it’s 2 to 3 times a year though if our youngest ends up in the US, which is pretty likely, it might be more often.
Quelle histoire romantique!
We celebrate Bastille Day too! We went to a French restaurant last night (here in Aus July 14th was Friday) and I just adore french food. It was beautiful.
HAUL:
• KVD Mother of All Lip Set
• Sephora #55 brush
• MUFE Aqua XL Eye Pencil in Matte Black
• KVD Sinner Travel Size Spray (not makeup, but I bought it with the other Sephora stuff listed above)
• Tarte Rainforest of the Sea II palette (finally arrived after being left out of the order I received last week)
• Clinique Lash Power Mascara
• Clinique Pop Glaze Sheer Lip Color in Fireball Pop
I also ordered four liquid lipsticks from Colourpop, but will report on those after I receive them. They haven’t even shipped yet.
OMG, I’ve been a bad girl this week. But I made it to VIB at Sephora!
WEEKEND PLANS:
Clean house.
Visit with family.
Watch Twin Peaks.
And stay away from Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s, or anywhere else that sells makeup!!!
HOW OFTEN DO YOU TRAVEL?
A few times a year, but no more than a four-hour drive away. (There’s a fear-of-flying issue at work here.)
P.S. Mellan is sooooo sweet-faced!
Sephora sent the wrong of samples with my order! I very carefully picked three items that interested me from their list, and instead they shipped three completely different, unrelated samples. They’re not even samples that are useful for me. So disappointed.
I get so aggravated with them over that!!! It happens constantly!!!
What is really aggravating is that the samples seem so randomly chosen. They didn’t even come close to what I wanted.
They have fine print saying that samples are subject to availability so they have an out. However, when I didn’t get the promo item I requested, I complained to customer service and they gave me 100 points so it may be worth your while to tell them how disappointed you are.
I sent an email to them. Let’s see what happens…
They gave me 100 points, too!
Haul: i have been successfully restraining myself from any purchases although the bite beauty lipsticks and some Nordstrom stuff are really testing me!
Weekend plans: pool and wine, get some exercise in and get ahead of some homework.
How often do you travel?: just a couple of times a year and they’re mostly very outdoorsy vacations. I would love to be able to do more!
Haul: Charlotte Tilbury Seductive Beauty palette, a few more clearance Sephora shadow singles and a palette to house them in, and some (knockoff) replacement heads for my clarisonic. I was tempted to buy real ones since they were on sale on Prime Day, but even then they were double the price of the no-brand ones! so I decided to save my dollars and go cheap ?
Weekend plans: Sleep in, might do a little furniture shopping
How often do you travel?: I just transitioned off of 2 out-of-state customers and on to one larger local account for work, so business travel will be down to about zero. My husband and I generally do 2 vacation trips per year- one to FL and one elsewhere, but his schedule does not allow for weekend trips ? So, not enough! I love traveling.
Haul: Picked up the Winky Lux Flower lip balms at the Nordstrom sale…never really heard of this brand but I’ve seen similar, if not these exact flower lip balms on Instagram so am curious to give them a try. First impressions is whoa heavy flower scents! Oh and I picked up a bunch of the China Glaze x My Little Pony collection, such good summer colors!
Weekend Plans: shopping the Nordstrom anniversary sale some more lol and spending time with friends
How often do you travel?: Once or twice a year…I took a major trip already this year though, went to the other side of the world for the first time in my life. It was my first time leaving the Americas…visited South Korea for 10 days, it was awesome! Cosmetics shopping there was incredible and it caused me to be way more interested in skincare than I’ve ever been before in my entire life. I’m all about those Korean lip tints and cushion compacts these days 😀
Oh I was curious about those Winky Lux flower lip balms -but blech, can’t stand heavy scents on the lips, thanks for saving me money!
Haul: I bought a couple things from sephora. Picked up the Anastasia brow pomade in Ash Brown. I found it to be too harsh and tossed the last one I bought. But I recently saw YT Videos of people saying to only use a tiny amount at a time, so I’m gonna give it another chance.
I also bough a Bite lipstick duo. I love their formula but previously I bought Cava and I look like I’m a dying person in the ICU. So I’m gonna try more rosy colors instead. I also got the Armani lip Maestro in 500 – a pink that is raved about in China. I have to try for myself. On the side I bought a dry clean instant brush cleaner. It’s convenient in concept but the pump on the bottle is so so so hard to press down! Maybe I’m too weak LOL.
Weekend plans: To NJ we go! My boyfriend and I are going to his house, and go to NYC on Saturday to get some good food.
How often do you travel?: I’ve traveled a decent amount. I just graduated from college, and for the past four years I would almost travel whenever there’s a break. Winter, Spring, Summer, Thanksgiving, Fall, you name it. I did all the travelling I can because I know once I start working I wouldn’t be able to travel so often. Well one more year of grad school and I’ll be a real adult I guess! It’s all coming too soon.
LOL ! Yep, same experience with a sample of BITE Cava. And the first time I tried ABH brow pomade, I looked like Groucho Marx! Then after some googling, I finally figured out you were only supposed to use a tiny smidgen, like barely touching the brush to the product, then adding a bit more if needed. I bought mine about 5 years ago, have been using it faithfully every single day, and I’m still not 1/2 way thru the pot. That pot should last me another 5 years, best money ever spent ever on my brows.
Haul: Naked Heat Palette (I am not a fan of it a few days in, the pigment is there but it’s very subtle on my dark skin. I’m sure it would be ok wet but I don’t like wetting my eye shadows. It’s a nice every-dayer to replace my chocolate palette but I’m not completely sold on it thus far), I’m going to pick up more beauty blenders but the cheap ones. I saw a video about bugs being in them and even though it was old it sparked my distaste for them being sanitary but I tried going back to the wedges and they’ve changed them, they are more absorbent than they used to be and super thin – it’s so annoying. So I’m going to buy a 6 pack at Ulta and use one for two weeks and then toss it, that’s the only way I can not have a germaphobe freak out. nothing else is on my radar except those Pat Mcgrath lipsticks at the end of the month.
•Weekend plans: I work my weekend job on Saturday and sunday (yes – NO DAY SOFF 🙁 but that’s life) so I’ll do that and clean the house, go see the new Planet of The Apes
•How often do you travel?: I travel routinely twice a year to see my family in Chicago. I’d like to travel more for vacation but can’t afford it right now so I am working on saving up to spend more time traveling next year. I want to take my son to Italy to spread my mom’s ashes, she’d have liked that. I want to take my son to Africa, Ireland, London, and China. so one day….
Haul: Klorane Desert Date hair mask (I love the mango mask but wanted to try this one) and a deluxe sample of Farmacy Honey Drop face cream from Sephora.
Weekend Plans: THE OLD HOUSE SOLD AND WE CLOSE IN 2 WEEKS!!! So today we’re heading down to mow and pick up the decor we’d left for staging. The last of the furniture will get picked up by movers next weekend. Also my cousin’s baby shower is Sunday!
How often do you travel? A couple times per year. We go to my in-law’s lake cabin over the 4th of July for 5-ish days every year, plus generally do a week trip with my parents and brother + sister-in-law. Sometimes we do a trip just the two of us if we have extra $$ and Hilton Honors points.
Haul: I bought Yes, Please! palette from Colourpop, as well as the Amethyst crystal liquid highlighter.
•Weekend plans: I’m moving this weekend! Only to 10 minutes away, but I am super excited!
•How often do you travel?: Probably about 7-8 times a year. I tend to go on vacation twice a year, and the rest is visiting family.
Good luck with your move Courtney, I hope it’s to a much nicer place.
Haul: Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Naked Desire (another winner from the line) and I bought UD’s Primer Potion in Greed on ebay because it has been discontinued
Weekend plans: Last weekend I talked about my double abscess. I have two molars that are abscessed and it has been a very painful two weeks. I ended up in the emergency room on Friday night due to severe pain and a bad reaction to NORCO. I was switched to Tramadol and my antibiotic was doubled. I was still in enough pain to return to emergency room on Saturday night, but knew they weren’t going to be helpful so I got online and started desperately looking for home remedies. I was rinsing my mouth with warm salt water, and putting raw potatoes and black tea bags in my mouth. It didn’t help the pain but it distracted me enough so that I stayed away from the hospital. At some point during the night the abscess started draining, which provided a significant amount of pain relief. I was on the couch in pajamas all day Sunday and still in pain, but it was survivable.
On Monday I saw an endodontic specialist who did a root canal on one tooth and attempted a root canal on the second tooth. The second tooth was a previous root canal that had failed. The specialist was able to find the part of the root that was missed (and was responsible for the worst abscess) but unfortunately, the root canal could not be successfully completed because during the previous root canal a piece of metal had broken off into the canal. Now I will have to have surgery to clip the root where the metal is lodged. I have three more dental procedures ahead of me before we can even schedule the surgery, which will be in the fall or winter of this year. I have no idea how they will manage the infection during this time. I still have a very large abscess that is draining, and the part that isn’t visible (up in the gum) has dissolved a significant amount of bone in my jaw. So this weekend (and many more to come) will be impacted by my dental health.
I am going to try to go to the gym on Saturday. I haven’t been able to work out for two weeks and a workout will go a long way towards improving my mental well being.
Travel: I really only go to Chicago a couple times a year (about 3 1/2 hours away). I used to go to Branson every year for my husband’s yearly family reunion but his mother is a bitter, unkind human being so I stopped attending. I honestly don’t like to be away from home more than three days at a time because I have three cats and I worry about them. Cat mom, lol!
I’m sorry you’re having such an awful time with the absesses. How absolutely miserable. I hope things continue to drain and pain will be bearable.
Thank you, Rachel.
Oh you poor thing, how awful! Deep teeth abscesses are the worst type of pain.
Katie, I have a new respect for those with a tooth abscess. I never knew how painful they could be.
Tammy,
That sounds so incredibly painful and exhausting. Pain enough for ER? My god, that’s bad. It’s a confluence of everything that could go wrong, did. Metal from an old root canal? I am so sorry you’re going through this. Terrible. xoxo
Thank you, Linda. I was weeping in the ER.
Tammy – I feel so bad for you . So bad . There is nothing worse than dental pain . I’ve given birth to three kids and had severe dental pain on several occasions . I’d chose the childbirth – seriously . Where did that tiny piece of metal that was in the come from ? As a person who has a Mercedes in her mouth ( a lot of expensive dental work ) , I empathize with you .
Robin, I have had four children naturally (without any kind of pain assistance) and I too would choose childbirth over this current predicament. Not that having babies was easy, because it surely was intensely painful, but because this just goes on and on and on, and at least with childbirth there is an end in sight. Also, with childbirth I was never afraid of sepsis or any type of serious damage to my body. My husband and I were very afraid during the pain of last weekend because we knew the risks of the infection spreading. I am still worried: as I sit here writing this, my abscess swelling has gone back to almost the same level as last Friday night, and I don’t have another dentist appointment until August.
Ok, I reviewed everything you posted . What is your pain level right now ? You say you are swollen but I’m not sure of your pain level . I nor anyone else can give medical advice to someone they don’t see, not even a Doc , but I could say what I would do in that situation . Robin
Robin, My pain level dropped when they did the root canals. My pain is constant, but at a much lower level than it was when the root was still in the tooth. I still needed Advil (3 tablets) but not Tramadol. I called the endodontist on Saturday, he met me at his office (said the ER was “worthless,” lol) and gave me the green light to have the tooth pulled. He was trying to save the tooth, but 14 days of antibiotics with no improvement in the infection was not okay. Will probably remove it Monday.
Thank you for your concern.
I’m glad your endodontist saw you over the weekend and you have a plan . The tooth being pulled – Is this the tooth with the metal left in the root or the other tooth ? I’m glad the pain level is down to manageable . Keep on those antibiotics . You are right – the only thing the ER can do is give you pain relief . Keep us posted . Robin
You poor thing! Just awful. My dialectal mind (that constructs the opposite of what I just thought…) replied, well, at least the dental horrors waited until after your daughter’s wedding. Unless you were so busy that it all got damped down. Pain that nothing touches. Shudder. Hope the atbx bring it down soon, and the draining does help. I’d rather have colonoscopy every day than more root canal. Even with adequate anesthesia…..nightmare. But soon, you will be back to your beautiful self.
A colonoscopy everyday…lol, kjh.
Tammy, I am so sorry to hear of your pain and suffering!! I hope you find relief soon!
Thank you, Tracey.
Tammy – you really have been in the wars with your teeth this week. And it doesn’t look like things are going to significantly improve any time soon either. I think you should have been admitted to hospital and have your infection and pain managed more closely.
I’ve said a few prayers for you this week so that the abscesses will start draining as the medication kicks in, but obviously you have a long journey ahead.
Genevieve, Thank you for your prayers. The journey was shortened by my endodontist, who came to the office on the weekend to check me and realized that I need to have my tooth removed due to the infection not showing improvement. I am very thankful to know that soon this infection will be behind me, even though I will be losing a tooth in the process.
That is good news Tammy – but no doubt your body is suffering due to the infection and all the antibiotics.
Oh Tammy, I am so sorry to hear that you are still suffering with your abscesses. I don’t know if this helps or not but have you considered seeing a different endodontic for a second opinion or a faster turn around time? I can’t imagine having to face living with this for several more months. I know from my own experience that they cannot do much with a raging infection but strong enough antibiotics should help and then they should press forward as soon as possible. I will continue to remember you in my prayers.
Thank you, Deborah. My endodontist saw me this weekend and is going to make an appointment to pull the tooth. I can not go on like this.
I am so sorry that you are in pain. And I know how you feel about leaving your cats behind. Mine are 18 now and I worry that I will be seeing them for the last time each time I travel.
Haha, Lesley, everyday when I leave for work I say goodbye to my favorite kitty, Zoe, with an understanding there is no guarantee I will ever see her again. So dramatic, I know, but I’ve lost pets and I love them intentionally now.
Yikes!!! The teeth issues sound horribly painful and scary. I’m so sorry, fingers crossed they can bring the infection and pain under control for you
Katherine, I am hopeful to have it all under control by next Friday’s haul. Doctor saw me over the weekend, says we’re pulling the tooth because the infection has gone on too long without improvement. I am looking forward to being pain and infection free!
It just takes a pair of those big brown Mellan eyes to brighten a day!
Haul:
Scent week it seems. I rarely buy perfume, but got two lovely new ones:
Chanel No. 5 L’Eau EDT. Not a fan of the regular No. 5, but I love this offering.
Lubin Gin Fizz — used up the small one I got in Paris, and got a replacement. Between these two I’ll be set for a couple of years.
Chanel Blush in Vibration. Nice pink on me. I’m so set (overly so) with corals, and this is a nice change. Layered with Golden Sun — excellent!
BITE Agave lip mask. I like it for overnight.
Two fun lipstick samples:
Nars Velvet Matte in Let’s Go Crazt
Givenchy Rouge Interdit (23), Fuchsia in the Know
These are two really pink colors I would never have thought I would like. But I do. I think they both look nice, and it’s fun to change it up.
Weekend plans:
Not much. We had some basement flooding, which we have not had in decades, with the crazy storm that rolled through here on Wed. Got some clean up from that. Swims (outside!), pups, groceries, boys for dinner on Sunday night.
How often do you travel?
Now that the boys are all out of college, we’ve been taking a two-week trip to Europe annually. (May that continue. 🙂 ) I love that so much, I’m content to stick close to home the rest of the time. I travel some for work, and I’ll be spending a week in LA in mid-September. It’s a trip to film with my agency people — very fun crew — so it will be work but it won’t feel that way.
Just fragrantica’d the Gin Fizz yesterday! Funny how often that happens. The Gin Fizz I was looking for is men’s, and I think was discontinued. Think I’m up on scent for the Sephora sale. But what I really want is Creed Himalaya! No Creed at Sephora! No Mitsouko either. I read up on chypres and aquatics, and refined some choices. And about the oakmoss problem. It seems that allergies to ingredient constituents is responsible for so many of the reformulations.
Yep, Mellan sure knows how to ham it up for the camera! ???
Haul: All I hauled this week was clothing for my annual 3 day Convention in Tucson. Picking up my MAC order that I mentioned last week over at a UPS store later today. Hopefully, having it sent there, both lipsticks will be unscathed from the heat. Ipsy Bag comes today, too. Still NO word or shipping notification from ColourPop concerning the order I placed last Thursday, though. Going to Ulta later for more Maybelline Full & Soft Waterproof Mascara. Now that I’ve gone back to it, I remember why I loved it so much before: stuff makes my lashes grow thicker!
Weekend plans: Like yourself, trying to stay cool! Monsoon humidity is here. (But where did our ⛈?? go??? ?) Just shopping and running errands later today, tomorrow hair, nails got halfway done yesterday. Meeting on Sunday.
How often do you travel?: Not nearly enough! Except for going down to Tucson 3 days in a row each year, I haven’t travelled outside of AZ in 13 long years. Would love to visit back home in north-eastern NJ/NYC. Also, to go visit a few destinations in Canada to see if those would be the next place I move to. ?
*UPDATE* Picked up my MAC order, everything was fine! Lust Extract had just a teensy bit of a melted spot. Plus, I just got my shipping confirmation from CP, so it’s on its way! ?
Haul: I replaced my Herbivore Coco Rose body polish (this stuff is amazing) and I bought a Sephora eyeliner in Matte Black Brown. I had over 1400 points, so I got lots of great reward perks. I chose the 500 point Glamglow and Bobbi Brown boxes, a mini Stila liquid eyeliner, a mini Laura Mercier lipstick, and a small Caudalie set.
Weekend plans: Have lunch with an uncle, and toss out some old furniture.
How often do you travel?: I try to once a year, and I do it locally. I usually visit a high school friend in Virginia once a year. I’d love to travel more frequently.
Haul: Floss Gloss and KB Shimmer polishes, stamping plates, nail vinyls – waiting on 2 more orders and my collection will be complete! I’ve got it all organized and set up and my neice and I have had a lot of fun playing with the stamping plates.
Weekend plans: Birthday party for a grand-neice, maybe a movie, volunteering at the animal sanctuary.
How often do you travel?: I don’t – too stressful. I only travel for family events, but if I do vacation somewhere, it’s usually a staycation at some place in state.
Sweet! Usually I catch these too late, so here goes. 🙂
Haul: Nordstrom Anniversary sale – Duo-pack of Neubrow (hands up if you overplucked your poor brows in the 90s!), and the Chantecaille gift trio of Faux Cils Longest Lash (OMG this stuff is amazing), gloss in Charms, and travel size eye makeup remover (if you want to try the most expensive mascara in the world, now is the time since it *almost* makes it bearable by also getting the gloss and makeup remover for essentially the same price). Additional buys this week include the Chanel Jardins Lumiere quad and Memoire lipstick, the new KVD Glimmer palette, Givenchy lipstick in Rose Dressing, ColourPop Yes Please palette, and the Chanel Empreinte du Desert quad (FYI babes, if you missed this last year it is suddenly on the Saks website again!!!). <3
Weekend plans: Continuing the never-ending saga of swearing "this is the weekend I'm going to finish painting the house." Anyone else have that issue? Bueller?
How often do you travel?: I haven't taken a long-distance trip in a while (last time was 3 years ago this weekend actually, to go to NYC to see a stylist I'd been dying to see for years, thanks honey!). Generally each week I travel about an hour and half to go see my family and spend time with them (usually binge-watching something on Netflix and eating bad food lol).
Hi Nicole!
I am twitching to try Chantecaille Faux Cils Longest Lash. I am frustrated with mascaras beyond words. So worth it? Thanks!
I rotate between the Faux Cils, TFord and Cle de Peau – so I’d definitely say worth it. The gloss is beautiful as well. It’s a sheer light Peach tone, smells of honey and is very hydrating and not at all sticky!
Hi Linda! Sorry somehow this got stuck in my spam. I can’t say yet whether the Faux Cils actually makes lashes grow longer, but I can say this is the only mascara I’ve ever used that doesn’t make my upper and lower outer lashes stick together. So for that alone it’s worth it! The gloss is divine. I have used a lot of gloss in my life and I’ve been reaching for this almost everyday since I got it. Definitely a kit worth the money!
Superb haul and find.
Nicole, Your haul is so exciting! I will have to avoid that Chantecaille gift, I already did enough damage at the Nordstrom sale, and am going to avoid buying anymore. I have Jardins Lumiere and Empriente du Desert. I believe you are going to love them! I’ve had Rose Dressing on my wish list for years!
Haul: Nothing. I have been waiting for my trip to Canada and down the west coast to San Francisco so that I can see products in person and if I ordered on-line they would not get to me in time. Plus the heat would probably ruin everything. Which brings up a subject that I have wondered about. If you order like lipsticks or other makeup in the extreme heat has anyone had their products affected by the heat? Do your lipsticks come melted? I don’t think that UPS, FEDEX have cooled storage. Just wondering.
Weekend Plans: We are leaving on Sunday for the aforementioned trip so packing and getting the house organized. I hate coming home to a messy house. I usually do laundry during these trips so I don’t have to come home to a mountain of laundry either.
How often do I travel: Not as much as I would like to but we usually manage about 5-6 trips a year. We generally travel for pleasure and don’t go to visit relatives as they all live within 5 minutes of me. We love traveling and we do it pretty easily. We all like to wing it and stop where we want to see things. My daughter’s cat Sophie travels with us and she is a seasoned traveler now. She has been to Canada many times and to most of the states in the western USA. As noted above we are leaving for Canada on Sunday and going by way of Glacier National Park, Waterton, Banff, Vancouver, Washington, Oregon and California.
Best trip ever. I did the first 2 as a child…the classic train trip from Chicago. Always wanted to do the rest of the big Canadian Rockies and significant British Columbia, including sturgeon fishing! What a dream. As to summer melting, yes, it happened only once, and then I never ordered anything but powder during the warmer months. If I can’t drag it in from the car, forget it.
Have a lovely trip Deborah – you are going to some really beautiful places. We love travelling to those kinds of places too.
Oh Deborah, I think you will love checking out all the makeup counters in SF!! There’s 7 stores literally within 3-4 blocks of each other, in the Union Square area, and many carry brands that are very hard to find elsewhere. Sephora and MAC Pro Store are just 2 doors apart, and the Pro store carries products not found in regular MAC counters. It’s been months since I’ve made it downtown, so things might have changed, but last time I was there, they had Macy’s (Inglot section, very rare), Saks ( Cle de Peau), Neiman Marcus ( Tom Ford, Chantecaille, Giorgio Armani, Dior, Chanel, small Kevin Aucoin counter –this is a beautiful store that gets a lot of natural light, so great for seeing the colors as they truly are, and they are usually the first to get new Tom Ford and Dior products), Bloomingdales ( Charlotte Tilbury, small By Terry counter-think this is the only store that carries those 2 brands, another Cle de Peau counter, and they have huge selection of main and HE brands), Nordstroms ( all the main brands but the lighting is very heavy, but they have a fantastic return policy, whereas other stores are stricter or have no return policy ). Hope you have a great time, it’s going to be hard not to go crazy, might need an extra suitcase 😉
Katherine, thank you so much for the suggestions. I knew the stores would be amazing as I use to live in Sacramento and going to the city meant going to SF but I haven’t been there in probably 15 years. My step-daughter worked at the Sephora on Union Square but I have never been there. I am really looking forward to seeing even a small By Terry counter. I love many of the products. Now if someone would just put in a Rouge Bunny Rouge counter I would be thrilled. I am so looking forward to cooler temperatures, also. Expect a mega-haul for the Friday after I get back which is the first Friday in August.
You’re welcome Deborah! Macy’s now has a Blue Mercury section inside, so I did some googling, and they should have By Terry, as Blue Mercury’s site is showing their products in stock there 🙂 Bloomingdales carries a small amount of Rouge Bunny products online, and their website says some of it is “available for pickup in store”, so I’m thinking they might have a few products in store. I can vouch for their Chronos eye palette as I have it, it’s quite stunning. Looking forward to your haul in August ! 🙂
Oh and a couple more tips – Sephora has a small Guerlain and Burberry display, but I think Nordstroms is the only store that has counters for those brands. And the Sephora has Surratt, which is the only store that I’ve ever seen it in. And Sephora doesn’t have a Viseart section, but they usually have a few Viseart shadow palettes on display as testers, so ask an SA if you can’t find them.
Haul: Had to reorder my By Terry CC Lumi Serum in the pearl shade (I forget the name offhand) since my SpaceNK via Nordstrom cancelled the order almost two months into waiting for it to come back in stock and ship. Kind of unclear why since I then ordered it from SpaceNK directly and got it ASAP along with the Rodial contour powder (we’ll see if that stays or goes back though).
Sephora – Ordered a Becca lipgloss in Topaz x Gilt because it looked pretty enough swatched; and then some more invisibobble hair bands for the gym, etc. I kept going back and forth on the MJB primer and shadow, but decided to hold off. I’m hoping it arrives tomorrow, but we’ll see. Supposedly it shipped last night, but UPS isn’t showing it in the system yet.
Nordstrom – oddly, most of my purchases ended up being non-sale items to make the most of the bonus 10-point day today in light of yesterdays website issues. Yay to technical issues! I ordered from the sale – Dr. Dennis Gross AH/BH peel pad bundle, Deborah Lippmann polish remover bundle and Tom Ford Lip and Eyes set. Non sale was CdP Loose Powder, CdP Cream Blush in Cranberry (#1), CdP new liquid liner pen (waiting on the rest of the new releases to do more damage), Armani Prima Soft Peeling Lotion, Chanel Eros liner, Bobbi Brown lip balm and Chantecaille Mermaid shadow in Starfish (warm burgundy red).
Weekend Plans – continue to twiddle my thumbs waiting to see if I get the job offer I am pretty sure is coming. Interviewed with 9 people for the job through the course of four meetings and a job/personality assessment tool that took about 70 minutes to do; so I’d better to get the offer!!! Lol. Otherwise, dinner with friends tomorrow and the usual errands and house clean.
How Often Do I Travel – For work? More than enough; though less than the 12 or so weeks per year that I used to. For family between 4-6 times per year; for fun with the spouse – not nearly as much as I’d like!
Good luck with the new job. That’s one massive lot of hoops, if it doesn’t work out. Hope the job itself is not as demanding or scrutinized.
Thanks KJH! Fortunately I get the feeling they’ve made rushed decisions before and it didn’t work out, so they’re taking a deliberative road this time. Plus it’s a new position that would be a major expansion of their advocacy efforts. We shall see what happens!!!
Haul: Two City Color Cosmetics Intense Exposure Highlighting Powders. CCC discontinued this item, so I picked up a backups from Amazon because I use mine all the time. Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Venus Flytrap (chartreuse).
Weekend plans: Moving my older son into his own apartment. His BFF since grade school’s roommates moved out, and my son just got approved to move in.
How often do you travel?: Every two or three months, though we usually don’t go very far and don’t stay away very long. We do weekend trips or occasionally visit family. If we’re talking a week’s vacation, every few years as time and money permits.
Also, I had gift card for Macy’s, so I caved and got the MAC Fruity Juicy Pearlmatte Face Powder. I use it as a blush/bronzer and it’s beautiful. (It’s too pigmented to work as a face powder on me.)
Omg, first step in empty nesting! You look far too young. Would love to see you in Venus Fly Trap. I used to have them and feed them regularly. Insectivorous plants are fun.
Thanks, kjh. I’m 47, and my oldest is 22. Considering he’s struggled with severe mental health issues plus Asperger’s Disorder his whole life, I’m extra proud of him being able to take this step.
We used to have Venus Fly Traps, too. They were so fun and easy to take care of.
I hope he cleans out his room before he goes Rachel! That will be a proud/bittersweet time for you as your son gains his independence.
I hope so, too! LOL
Haul:
From Sephora I got UD Basquiat neutral palette, Full size and travel size Laura Mercier Translucent loose powder, MUFE smoothing primer, And Sephora Colourful blush in Hysterical
(I also got a sample of two CoverFX primers, a smashbox primer sample, a benefit roller lash mini, And a mini Givenchy lipstick!!)
From Aerie I bought two bras!! I’m a 40DDD, and they actually had bras, in my size on sale!!! Super happy!
Weekend plans: I got home from training camp for work today, and my weekend plans are to SLEEP!
Do I travel a lot: YES! I travel for work!!! 😀
I love UD Basquiat Gold Griot palette more than I thought I would! I hope you enjoy it too.
Mellon looks so dapper in his little bowtie! Cute
Haul: Nordstrom anniversary – Simple Human Mirror, Nars Cheek palette, Kiels hand salve. Stopped in Sephora and got Urban Decay Heat Lipstick and Alkaline eye liner to wear with my Heat palette. I remembered later that Maybelline Copper Spark was a close dupe to the lip stick. Wish I’d got that instead. And I REALLY didn’t need that blush palette either, but it looked so pretty and I love Nars blushes.
Weekend Plans: Just Chill helping my daughter heal from ankle surgery
How often do you travel?: Not as much as I’d like ! Since my family lives in a different state I visit 2-3 times a year.
What a dear heart that Mellan is. His name no longer autocorrects! It shows as a choice, just like Jussi and Patticake. Guess I talk about dogs a lot. Guess?
Haul: nothing makeup. But I did get a new watch through overstock that was $100 less than quoted locally, and only $7 more than the same one I bought my mum 20 years ago. It is one size bigger, but wgas? Total score. Now, like standard yellow vws, I’ve had 3 Swiss army men’s watches. You like what you like. W/e: working Sat and Sun nights. Idk if weather will improve. The usual dog and home stuff. Travel: I’m fortunate that I did when younger, as I seldom even do day trips, now.
Haul: Nordstrom Beauty Exclusives- Charlotte Tilbury Day-to-Night Lip Duo in the Perfect Pink shades- Matte Revolution Lipstick in Between the Sheets, K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Kiss Chase, Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pink Venus; Hourglass Ambient Diffused Light Palette (which is perfect as all three shades were on my wishlist and I didn’t actually own any); both NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil Sets (Tribulation and Mustang).
I also ordered the NARS Liquid Blush in Luster as it came back in stock at Sephora but I’m now wishing I waited until next month because of the Nordstrom sale stuff made my wallet cry.
Weekend plans: Don’t spend any money. Like for the rest of ever. Ack.
How often do you travel?: Nowadays never because of heath reasons, a half a decade ago it was like 3 times a year (or more) if I could manage it and get cheap deals and/or scholarships
HAUL – I placed three Sephora orders a week or so ago but not for anything fun – just replacement products for frequently used items
WEEKEND. – relatively very quiet for us – babysit my only grandbaby, see a movie , swim and hang out .
TRAVEL – yes !
Haul: Skincare from The Ordinary and trying NIOD’s Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate. (My real haul was a pair of Fluevog shoes and Canada 150 memorbilia).
Weekend plans: My in-laws are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and am part of gang hosting the drop in. Enjoying being home with lots of family in town.
Travel: I travel a few times a year, mostly to spend time with family and friends.
A wistful looking Mellon – he looks so well now.
Haul: Nothing really – I am just shopping my skincare bag that I received from Priceline after buying $60 worth of products. Nearly everything in there are products (full size) that I can use. So it was a good bargain.
Weekend plans: I don’t always know what will happen at our place over the weekend. Last week, I think I said ‘nothing much’ and it turned out to be hectic.
Definitely on the cards is supermarket shopping, a drive through the hills, a visit from my grandchildren and watching the Tour De France – which I am obsessed with!
How often do you travel? Not as often as I would like! We don’t travel a great deal these days for long trips, generally we prefer to go away for a week or so to different parts of our country. And we usually do that once or so a year.
Haul: items that came this week- kitten vampstamp, a random mask off Amazon, some lashes from house of lashes and two Colourpop nail polishes.
Weekend plans: I just saw Spider-Man tonight and tomorrow I am going to a Zelda concert thing with some friends from out of town. One of those friends being one of my most makeup obsessed so I am excited to see her.
How often do you travel?: Pretty much never, but that relates more to being in a bit of a chaos spot in my life. I just finished my masters degree and I was working full time during that time so I was using my time off to write papers.
Haul: A mini free one from Feel unique, (mostly samples) – Armani Beauty moisturizing glow balm, Thierry Mugler Aura perfume, Annick Goutal Tenue de Soiree perfume, Antipodes Grace Cream Cleanser and Manuka Skin-Brightening Light Honey Day Cream.
Latest in Beauty 6 piece pick n mix box – Anne Semonin eye cooling cube, Neom Organics daily energy boosting capsule, Evolve organic beauty face cream, Burts Bee lip crayon in Hawaiian Smoulder, Lancaster Silky Fluid SPF15 sun cream, and Kiko Velvet Touch cheek stick in 04, a medium pink.
Plans for weekend: My 3 year old daughter’s going wth my fiance’s dad and his lady friend to their house on Sat, while my fiance goes for a drink with his pal at the pub and I will take the day off and relax and pamper myself. We will all go to the carnival on Sun. We’ve only just recovered from the second cold in 4 weeks. I hope it’s not actually the horrible virus going round earlier in the year where people were getting a cold that would seem to go away but come back again on and off for months. It really took it out of me and my mum had to come down and take my daughter for 2 days last week to give me a break. My daughter was feverish for a few days with both colds and it really disturbed her sleep for a couple of weeks. I hope we’ve seen the back of it for good!
How often do I travel? Not very often, as we don’t have the money to go away now we’ve moved and are renting. We’ll visit my parents up West Scotland twice a year, at Xmas and the summer. My fiance and I went to Paris last year and Venice the year before. This year he’s going to Cyprus for his brother’s wedding, I would go with our daughter too but we can’t really afford for him to go on his own as it is, but his brother wouldn’t speak to him if he didn’t go ?.
Those eyes!!! Haul – too much stuff!
*Devinah (40% off) -duo chrome higlighter in Cosma (my fave!! soft white base with stunning greenish yellow gold shift, I like this much better than the Becca Opal x Jade that I swatched) pressed pigment in Tempted (pretty!), shadows in matte purples ( Vixen, Push, Aria), matte teal blue (Jaded), and matte red (Ilithyia). Testing the matte shadows–on the lids, pigment is decent/buildable/good, but they remind me of Lorac’s matte formula, thinner and dustier, think they will go best over primer or cream base. I tried to combine 3 mattes together on the lid, and it was tough to blend anything because they are on drier and thinner side. But if I use 1 matte all over the lid, it was quite pretty. Or if I paired a shimmer with a matte, that was fine. So fairly pleased since these are tough matte colors to find and formulate, only $5 each at full price, so very easy to make custom palettes. Thanks for the rec Michele!
*Ulta (20% coupon) L’Oreal Infallible Lip Paints in Violet Twist ( love the pigment, color, and formula ) and Metallic Smoldering Eclipse (OMG, stunning- blackened eggplant purple), MAC Extra Dimension Blush in Fairly Precious ( in love with the peachy luminous finish), NYX Matte Lipstick in Aria (pigmented but felt dry), Makeup Revolution Camoflauge Corrector Kit (testing, but pretty impressed so far), CosRx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin (haven’t tested yet), Maybelline Matte Lipstick in Brown Blush (winner), and Tigi Bedhead Super Star Queen for a Day Thickening Spray (HG hair thickener), mini Z Palettes
*Macy’s (15% cash back)- UD lip pencil in Pandemonium, and PTR Glycolic Acid 10% Gel (50% off), PTR Glycolic Acid 10% Moisturizer (50% off)
*ColourPop (free shipping)- super shock shadow in So Wavy (love!!!) and pressed shadow in On the Fence (not great but ok for a light pink)
*Weekend – relax, usual chores/errands
*Travel -only a few times per year for business, hoping to do more fun travel when the kid gets a bit older
Haul: Nothing.
Weekend plans: Taking daughter to her boyfriend’s, going to work, taking the dogs for a nice long walk if weather permits.
How often do you travel?: Every other year (alternated with a year of going to gigs and festivals instead). This year is travel year, and so far I’ve been to Wales. At the end of August I’m off on holiday to the Lake District, in early December I’m going to Prague with my daughter for some Christmas shopping, and Christmas itself will be spent on a remote farm in Lincolnshire.
Haul:
Skincare – La Roche Posay Serozinc, Pixi Glow Tonic, Murad Oil Control Mattifier SPF 15, The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Argan Oil, Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator;
Makeup – It Style Smokey Natural palette (it’s so pretty and affordable I recommend everyone buy it)
Weekend plans: Stay at home, maybe go for a walk.
How often do you travel?: Never, the last time I travelled I was 8 if I’m not mistaken.
