  • Haul: Becca x Chrissy Teigen Palette, Louboutin Metalinudes polishes
  • Weekend plans: I need to catch up on my blogging! I visited my family (in California) last week for a few days so I need to get back into the groove!
  • Do you like attending plays/live shows?: I’d say I’m a fan but not someone who sees that many of them. I always see Riverdance whenever it comes through my local area! We’re seeing Book of Mormon when it comes to our area in a few weeks.

Haul: Marc Jacobs lipstick in Kate, bought during a moment of weakness during the sale, despite the fact that I have, um, five of the dupes you listed (and UD Crisis is a decent dupe too!). But I like the formula and it’s really pretty, and apparently I really like this kind of pinky-plum ๐Ÿ™‚ they’re all perfect for work (wearing Kate today).

Weekend Plans: spend time with my kids, get a little me-time, try not to get drenched in the spring Nor-Easter that’s due Saturday night and Sunday.

Live plays/shows: I really enjoy it, and when I lived in NYC we went to see musicals several times a year. Not nearly as often since moving to Northern New England!

Haul: My first BH Cosmetics order came in (pick up products from Winners/Marshalls before). I forget what the discounts were, some of the palettes were 30% or 40% off by catagory. The lipstick were full price at the time.
Blacklight Highlight – 6 Color Palette
Spotlight Highlight – 6 Color Palette
Foil Eyes – 28 Color Eyeshadow Palette
Foil Eyes 2 – 28 Color Eyeshadow Palette
Modern Mattes – 28 Color Eyeshadow Palette
Neutral Eyes To Go – 6 Color Eyeshadow Palette (Free)
BH Metallic Liquid Lipstick, Esmeralda, Ginger and Mary Ann

Weekend plans: Anime North crunch time! Still have to finish my dress and I need to finish decorating my armour as well as make my wig.

Do you like attending plays/live shows?: I do, although I have not been to many myself either.

Haul: I FINALLY got one of the NARS x CG eyeliners, a DE mini, and Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt.

Weekend: I’m still a bit shaken, but I’m up to a few things now. I think a movie and or some food outing is warranted. Plus food shopping and video games.

Plays/Live Shows: I like them but they are always so expensive. I haven’t been to one in a long time. The last was a children’s theater doing Annie and it was about 10 years ago! I’ve seen a few comedy acts and concerts about 7 years back. Stuff sells out in Portland/Seattle super fast when it comes through.

kjh Avatar

Glad you’re better. That JM is the one that interests me as well. Living @ the beach makes oceanic scents pretty mandatory for summmer. Plus the sage in there…as long as it doesn’t smell too much like stuffing! DE is clearly excellent, but already have a few ordinaries and 1 Cosrx to try/possibly schedule.. Those CG liners might hit the spot, esp the green one. Nice, selective haul.

Haul: MAC Lipglass in Norwegian Sky & New Galaxy
Weekend plans: To do an 11 mile Five Pub Challenge walk in aid of a local old folks’ home (weather permitting)
Do you like attending plays/live shows? I love live shows, whether they’re festivals or stadium gigs! The atmosphere is awesome, especially at festivals where you become part of the community.

Caroline Avatar

I’m currently experimenting with them as toppers, layering over lipsticks which lack a certain ‘something’. So far I’ve done this with Norwegian Sky over NYX Ripe Berry. It’s not a bad combo, but I think New Galaxy will probably work on its own.

Barneys: Molton Brown Rosa Absolute โ€“ Eau de Toilette, Bath & Shower Gel, Body Lotion.

Devinah (20% off): Bronzer (Sandbar, Havilah), 57 mm Magnetic Pan (2). Being delivered today.

I absolutely love the VL wet pearl lipstick. It’s easily the best in this formula I’ve bought. Wet Kitty is a back-up from my last order. And, since that one was so good, I bought one in every shade they sell. Yes, it’s that good.

Weekend plans: My daughter and I are meeting my Mother for Mother’s Day lunch tomorrow.

Do you like attending plays/live shows?: It’s been a while but yes.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

I’m just starting to like rose scents again. This one is a bit different as it’s a chypre floral and has some spice from pink pepper and also some patchouli (but not in the 60s hippie sense). I normally wouldn’t have gone for all 3 but with the 15% cash back….

I needed another powder like another hole in my head! But, this collection from Chantecaille is the first in a while that looked wearable for my skin tone (and across multiple skin tones). I love the quality of the brand so fingers crossed! Will let you know.

Tammy B Avatar

I would love to get that Giorgio Armani lip maestro notoriuous in maharajah!

Update on NARS Charlotte Gainsbourg eyeshadow duos: I love the quality but the shadows are dupable. Usually I don’t care about colors being dupable because I like having my eyeshadow combinations already organized for me. I haven’t worn this combination enough to say I love it. But I do love the lip tints.

kjh Avatar

What do you think VL is up to? Revamping or GOOB? Almost bit, but was discouraged, when a lot of allergens showed up. Visuvio Sheen was always a favorite. Boy, Models Own seems to be all over the place. As usual, great haul and fab bargains.

TUMMY RUB!!!!

Haul:

Indie Lee CoQ 10 toner.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Glosses in Shameless Glow and Reckless Bloom. I like these two as they combine well with lippies to create lots of nice combos.

Weekend:
Not much. It’s going to be raining and quite cool here so not sure what’s in store besides swimming, the pups, and the boys coming at some juncture for mother’s day.

Plays and Dance:
Yes, very much. I used to go all the time, making trips to NY regularly for plays and dance performances. When I was in my early 20s, my friend Marcia and I saw A Chorus Line, six times! LOL! My husband and hers are BFFs, so they would do whatever, and we would go. I bet I still know every word to the sound track! I try to make as many dance performances as I can when they come to Boston, but don’t go to as many plays as I once did. Cost is now a huge factor.

Think I should change my handle to NMFY! NO MAC FOR YOU!!! (Makeup nazi, shades of snl….)Forced to switch to chip card. Within two days, they shut it down for fraud: MAC. Now I know that MAC isn’t #1 for me, but really? Everything after that was declined. ? $2.13 at my night job, seriously? My error was not having an utd phone #at the bank…so they called someone else, with faulty info. Had to reconfirmed all online purchases, including Bamba peanut snacks from Walmart, Walmart being new to me. Bamba is the #1 snack in Israel, and my new total addiction… anyway, did get a Beautylish with the Jouer TM in blush, which has been OOS forever. Good color (kgd013) but broke up after 4 hours over snail. Maybe fine with other under products. Also, an inglot eye pencil I haven’t tried and sugarpill antisocialite. Antisocialite is Much more burgundy on me than the B online swatch, which looks brown. It’s a decent dark shade, one that frequently isn’t done well. W/e: third Sat off in >5 years. Yay, but all friends are used to me not being able to do things weekends. Whatever. Shows: used to go to the Huntington and a few others, but working f-s-s-m nights rather killed that. I won’t subscribe again. Was much more interested in theatre earlier in my life.

AB Avatar

Yikes! re the fraud. Credit card or identity theft or fraud is a big fear of mine. A friend had her identity stolen twice within a few years, the second time from an ER visit when she had to give her info for insurance. Good luck.

kjh Avatar

The problem was that it WASN’T fraud at all. I had to spend a day fixing it with (6) online orders, etc. whatta ya bet it’s bec I fall outside the demographic for MAC? I AM in their database. Plus, I never ordered from Walmart, right after that MAC order. I did get the order later, including 5 colored mascaras, mocha, wrapped candy, hard to get, vg3, and the kaliardos dark shade. They included a p&p pink sample, which, after cosdnaing it, I found contains titanium (yay!) and looks great under the Jouer. Hasn’t broken up in ~3 hours, like the snail prob caused. That p&p will prob be in my next Mac order….if they let me. I asked about ordering Zoeva, they had the unmitigated gall to say that would probably be declined and shut down my card, too. It’s so great to anticipate problems…

LindaP Avatar

Hi KJH,

Ugh on the fraud. Two years ago fraudulent returns were filed with the IRS in our names and a refund sent to who knows who. The local police told us that 450 fraudulent IRS returns were filed in our town alone.

You know how hard it was to straighten out the situation with the IRS? Not at all! It’s so common there is a step-by-step protocol to follow. We got our refund, and now file with a PIN. You can do this and that to protect yourself, but, really, the crooks are always one step ahead,

kjh Avatar

Well, I’ll tell ya, I did hear a MUCH worse one for a false negative card shut down. One of my customers has a son stranded in a Colorado airport, with the card shut down. He can’t get anything to eat or drink, much less rebook his ticket. I realize I am talking about an annoyance, rather than a problem. Had it been real, I should/?would have been glad. Idk how they do it, but apparently they clone up close, make an actual card, the try it out at a distant ATM for small cash withdrawal. If it works there, then they hit the big box stores, etc. so, do not assume that your s.o. took out twenty. It might have been in a quadrant far from your home. That also abets their not being caught…being detected, yes, but not caught. I apologize to everyone who had true identity fraud for complaining about a needless fraud protection shut down. It is not the hassle that you folks had. I spent a day; many people spend years. I always said that the same folks coding by day are hacking by night. That might not be far off base. It just makes me long for my Norman rockwellesque childhood. If you saw a backpack on the sidewalk, you got someone else, looked in it, and phoned the person who owned it. Now, it’s 911 and the bomb squad arrives. Glad I’m playing the back nine.

kjh Avatar

Unfortunately there may come day when there’s no choice. Unless your issuing institution decides not to opt for that technology, you are bound (doomed) to get one. I live in greater Boston and use a small, local credit union debit. In my night job cashiering, I would guess that chip has 75-80% penetration of all debit/credit cards. If this minor mess was actually engendered by being outside the Mac demographic or not a real Walmart shopper, THEN THESE CHIPS HAVE FAR TOO MUCH INFORMATION ON/ACCESSIBLE TO THEM. To me it’s a bit Big Brother-ish. Most people are trying to avoid the chip for numerous reasons, but ultimately unsuccessfully. Despite that the tech HAS been hacked. Just like many highways, partly obsolete before they are even fully in use. On to the next thing in ‘fraud protection’ that may(will) be based on what data can be mined on you. Know I’m waxing paranoid, but some days I think the people who live without banks and by money orders may actually be onto something.

Julia Avatar

LOL @ Mellan, I have a doggos that favors hat posotion, too! She sleeps on her back and I finder just like that every morning ?

Haul: Becca x Chrissy Teigen Palette, and received my The Ordinary haul from Beautylish, which I have only just started using but I do like!

Weekend plans: It’s finally warming up here in Chicago, so hopefully spending lots of time outside! Maybe take the pups to the dog park, and I have plans to put a climbing hydrangea in the back yard at some point.

Do you like attending plays/live shows?: Honestly, it’s not really my favorite thing. I have seen Book of Mormon, though, and it was very funny- I hope you enjoy it!

LindaP Avatar

Hi Julia!

I only have the under eye product with caffeine from The Ordinary. At first I was, “waiting to be impressed,” but after a week or so…all in. I really like it. I like it so much I am considering giving it a bigger trial in my skin care regimen.

Please check back about it. I would like to know your thoughts and what you think of it over time.

Julia Avatar

Hey Linda – I was *thisclose* to buying the caffeine product, but after reading some reviews, it sounded like it mainly combated puffiness, which is not something I really suffer from – my struggles are with dark circles and fine lines. What benefits are you seeing from use?

So far I’ve only used the Buffet serum consistently, and I do like it for its texture though I think it’s too soon to make a judgement call on efficacy. I’ll start using the moisturizer tonight since I’ve finished up my previous product. I am really in love with their concept of simple and targeted products that you build into the perfect, tailored regimen – I have high hopes!

LindaP Avatar

Hi Julia,

I did buy it eye product for puffiness, and it does do the job on that for sure. I don’t really have dark circles, and as for fine lines — mine have developed into smile age-crinkles (technical term ๐Ÿ™‚ ). I have to say, I do see some help in that regard with this product, which I did not except in the least. So far, so good. But really, there is only so much skin care can do for me in that area at this point! ๐Ÿ™‚

If you come to love something or three keep us posted. If I can change out a few things to products that work and save some $, that’s always a good idea.

kjh Avatar

I’ve added ~6 ordinary products. Aging, acne/allergy prone and OLD. What I like best about the ordinary products is that they virtually always have a water based option. For the dehydrated, but not dry, water seems to be the key (locked in) and oil may clog you up. Haven’t had a sufficiently long run, yet, to judge…and I have a s…ton of new stuff to incorporate and schedule, but so far so good. Not that I’m abandoning Paula or Cosrx any time soon! Good luck with it.

Haul: I’ve been working on this haul since my daughter told me on Christmas Day that she needs new make up brushes. I spent over four months researching and buying brushes, and this is what will be in my daughter’s new brush set, which I will give her on Mother’s Day.

Tom Ford Bronzer brush: My favorite make up brush ever!

Chikuhodo GSN-02: My daughter primarily wears powder foundation, and this one is supposed to be excellent for powder foundation. I own this brush too and I use it for regular setting powder, but I have other brushes I prefer over this one.

Tom Ford liquid foundation brush: Just got mine last week and I love it for liquid foundation and cream blush.

Chikuhodo Red Passion Powder brush: For regular setting powder

Chikuhodo GSN-04 highlight brush

Chikuhodo RC-2 Blush: I love it, I think she will too

Tom Ford Cheek brush: Because the natural hair brushes are being discontinued, so I had to add this to her collection.

Chikuhodo GSN-09 eyeshadow brush: A wonderful lay-down brush

Mac 239 Eyeshadow brush: simply the best laydown brush of all time

Mac 242 eyeshadow brush: for concentrated color placement, another must-have

Chikuhodo BP-4 eyeshadow brush: I don’t have this brush, but Lea asked for a brush of this shape, so I picked it up for her

Chikuhodo Z-5 eyeshadow brush: Same as above, but I did pick this one for myself and am enjoying it.

Hakuhodo B142 eyeshadow brush: A detailed blender, very nice.

Hakuhodo J5523 eyeshadow brush: I own these, but I can’t remember this vs the G5522–both are fantastic eyeshadow brushes

Hakuhodo G5522 eyeshadow brush: see above

Chikuhodo R-SL1: This one mystifies me but Linda recommended it so I picked one up for myself and my daughter.

Wayne Goss 08 eyeliner brush: The best brush I’ve ever used for getting eyeshadow.

Clean Apothecary Brush Shampoo (grapefruit scent)

MAC brush cleaner

Benjabelle Sunflower Brush Tree: for drying her brushes after cleaning.

Weekend plans: I’m getting my hair done; making a trip to the salon store (my daughter is a cosmetologist and hair dresser) to stock up on conditioners, shampoos, styling products and glycolic acid peels; shopping for shoes for my daughter’s wedding; trying to fit in a pedicure (for said shoes); and Mother’s Day! The boys will be grilling chicken for the mom-folk.

Outdoor plays: Every year we go see a couple outdoor plays at the Illinois Shakespeare Festival. Definitely a highlight of our summer!

Tammy Avatar

Yes, this is Lea, my daughter who just had the baby. I worried too that she would not have much time for using the brushes now that she has three children to keep up with, but every time I see her (at least once a week) she is always wearing make up. And she did request brushes. She may not be able to spend lots of time with her new brushes in the coming months, but these brushes will last for years and she will have plenty of time to use them in the years ahead.

My other daughter, Katherine (age 26), does not wear make up at all, and will probably never ask for (or receive) any type of cosmetic gift.

Genevieve Avatar

When my children were really little, I always made a little time to put on some makeup as well – it made me feel a little more human.
These brushes are a perfect gift and she will use them forever.

Haul: I placed an ELF order lastnight! I got:

Duo Eyebrow Brush (it has a angled brush on one side, and a spoolie on the other!)

a 10 pack of brush cleaning wipes (for travel)

Small Tapered brush (for blush/highlight)

Tweezers (I lost mine ๐Ÿ™ My brows need to be plucked every three days to keep clean!)

Weylie false eye lashes (I need them for a Anime Convention I have coming up at the end of the month!)

Mad for Matte 1 eye shadow palette (I NEED more matte transition shades omg!)

Instant Lift Brow pencil (Funny story! I’m scared to use brow pencils. I’m a SOLID powder user. But I’m willing to dip my toes in the pencil pool!)

Aqua beauty molten liquid shadow in Liquid Gold (I’v been DYING for this forever!!)

Weekend plans: I’m spending the weekend celebrating mothers day with my Mom, and My grandmother, and my Auntie. They are the the women who raised me to be who I am today. Mom taught me there’s power in kindness, Grandma taught me that there’s strength in small things. Auntie taught me that It’s okay to be different. So I’m treating the three ladies to lunch!!!

Do I like live shows/plays: I do, but it really depends!! If I know someone IN the show/play. I’m SO into it!! But if I don’t have that personal connection. It’s boring to me!

Shannon. N Avatar

Thanks for the comment Rachel! Iv been reading so many reviews, and iv been DYING for more matte shades with my hooded eyes!

And I figured this would be perfect for travel! I could bring this palette, and two shimmery single shadows.

Shannon. N Avatar

Thank you Genevieve!

In my culture, the elders and auntie’s of the family help the parents raise the kids, so I spent a LOT of time around my auntie, and grandmother growing up. And they taught me so much! And I can easily say, if it wasn’t for these three wonderful, strong women. I wouldn’t be who I am!

Plus, they have spent so much time and money spoiling me rotten over the years. They deserve to be treated to lunch, and I plan to buy each of them a bunch of their favourite flowers!

Jennifer Avatar

Haul: not much this week other than an ELF sculpting face brush from CVS that was surprisingly $8…when did ELF prices go up so high? I’ve been pretty impressed with a few really cheap ELF brushes I’ve bought at Target before oh and I restocked on my favorite Aveeno makeup removing wipes ๐Ÿ˜€
Weekend Plans: lots of cleaning and taking care of errands
Do you like attending plays/live shows?: I love attending plays/live shows, there is nothing like the magic of seeing uber talented people dance, sing, and act a show they’ve rehearsed so many times and be just professionals at it. Every time I’m in NYC I try to catch a broadway show and if an interesting musical rolls through town I try to make sure to go see it! Last one I went to was Wicked last summer but I’m trying to get tickets to Waitress with Sara Bareilles in NYC this month.

Kimberly Avatar

My dog does the same thing, and then wiggles furiously across the room with her legs up in the air. She’s a laugh.

Haul: Missed last week’s FFHF! Did a little bit more damage at the Sephora sale because it was 20% off. Purchased another (this is my 4th bottle!) Ouai Hair Oil, and then a full size of the Too Faced HangoveRX primer because I lost my deluxe size. After using it for a week, I realise that it’s not the best all-over face primer for me; I prefer the MUFE for actually hydrating the skin AND keeping my makeup locked in for 8+ hours. I’m contemplating selling it.

As I walked out of Sephora, I realised that MAC was having 20% off too. Sneaky! Seems like they wanted some of that Sephora Sale crowd. Picked up MAC Chili lipstick as it was on my wishlist for a long time, and a travel-sized Coconut Fix+ Spray to try. So far, not super impressed with the Fix+. The glycerin reacts weird with my skin; when used to intensify shadows, my eyeshadow is in literal patches above my eye fold after 5+ hours, and when used to finish my makeup, it just doesn’t work as well as plain ol’ Avene Facial Mist. Glad it was only $9 after the discount.

Weekend plans: Mothers’ Day dinner with the family and some product shoots.

Do you like attending plays/live shows?: I adore them. I’ve never had a bad time at one, especially live music.

Erica Avatar

MAC has better deals than Sephora all year round. A few months ago, they had a 25% sale when Sephora was giving 15% to their VIB/Rouge members. Sephora is the worst for their sales. MAC and Ulta kick Sephora’s butt in terms of deals. Plus for an anniversary gift for being a select member at MAC, I got a full size patent polish lip balm. Tell me when has Sephora done that? Sephora is alright and obviously they carry a lot more brands but Sephora is more of a hassle. I drop way more cash at MAC

kjh Avatar

Always like the insights! Prob more Mac in the future…unless the card shuts me down again, lol. MAC’s samples have been better for me, too. Plus, with T, we always know what we’ll like, and don’t necessarily have to visit the counter, which is like Grand Central Station.

Tammy Avatar

Haul: I’ve gotten some things I I really love this week! I’ve wanted the KVD Rock Candy Studded Kiss Lipstick set forever and I got that. Babe and Roxy are my favorite shades. The Becca x Chrissy Teigen Glow Kit is my other love; I was afraid it would be too dark but it isn’t. It’s such a beautiful palette! Also, I got a little Sephora palette from the sale page that was kind of a waste of money. It’s Not That Shy N ยฐ14 and it’s too glittery and muddy-looking on me. Weekend plans: I have six days off!! Tonight I’m getting my little nephews for a few hours. They’re four and six and I love spending time with them! Tomorrow my sister and I plan to take our mom out for lunch, and on Mother’s Day I’m going out of town to visit my son. Do you like attending live plays/shows? Yes!!! It’s been a long time, though. The last ones I saw were Phantom of the Opera, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Both shows were absolutely fantastic! Now you’ve put the idea in my head and I want to see something soon!

Joyce Avatar

Haul: Pretty dry week around here. Waiting until I go to DE next week for tax-free shopping ๐Ÿ™‚ I miss that!

Weekend plans: My mom is coming into town & we’re all going to my younger sister’s Masters program graduation and hopefully an awesome dinner afterwards. Celebrate my mom & grandmom on Mother’s Day!

Do you like attending plays/live shows?: I think I like the idea of them but I’ve never really been to one. I’m sure I’d enjoy it if I did.

I’m glad you got to spend time with your family! That’s always just the absolute best. Happy Furbaby Mother’s Day to you & everyone else!

Nancy T Avatar

Those upside down smiles are always the funniest looking thing on earth! Mellan has so much personality! ???

Haul: Everything ordered finally arrived! Love using my UD Basquiat Gallery cheek palette so much! This is THE bronzer for me. Haven’t gotten around to using Post-Punk punk or MAC Lilacked, but will soon. MAC Peach Blossom Pink is nowhere near as bright on as it looks in the tube, thank goodness!

Weekend plans: Resting!!! Never knew about the Zoster inflicted fatigue before this, but I sure do now. Plus, even though my face has sufficiently healed enough to wear my makeup again, it is still very painful to touch, so I’ll be using it only if I need to go out, or on “good” days. Going to try to go to my meeting on Sunday.

Do you like attending plays/ live shows: I do! But I’ve got to do a bit of mental preparation beforehand in order to cope with crowds. Social anxiety is a PITA.

Christine Avatar

He is a riot sometimes! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I mean, you might never know it, since he does sleep ALL the time, but he can be a goof.

Thanks for the update, Nancy – so relieved to hear that you are feeling better and that your face has healed up quite a bit!

Nancy T Avatar

He may think he’s a cat, they sure do sleep a ton, too! But his goofiness and big personality do shine through in his pics!

Yup, I’m happy to look somewhat normal again, even if it is still tender! A week ago, I looked like I’d received 2nd degree burns from a cooking accident, so I’ll gladly take this over that.

kjh Avatar

Hope your postherpetic neuralgia clears up all the way. Always felt horrible for folks who got zoster on their face. Or eyelids. Since I’d had herpes of the esophagus the previous year, shingles wasn’t totally unexpected. (For me, that was worse.). But the sneakiness of it all! Lying there in your nervous system, just waiting for the right moment, to give you some real pain! Not excited by the prospect of getting it again, since my MGM had it at least 3 times. There is a recurring familial form. DK if I should get the vaccine. Not good. Anything that affects your immune system exhausts you. Rest when you can. And happy Mother’s Day.

Nancy T Avatar

Thanks, KJH! Although, tbh, what you went through having this monster afflict your esophagus sounds so much worse. Not sure how one copes with that considering that we need to eat, which involves swallowing. Yikes! I hope yours and mine NEVER, EVER recurs! Talk about a miserable illness, and yes, sneaks up on ones who get it.

Katherine T. Avatar

Glad you’re at least looking better! Hope you will fully recover soon! I got MAC Lilacked too, have it been eyeing it for a while, so pretty!!

Haul: not much — or even anything — come to think of it. Accidental good expense management on my part.
Weekend: Getting ready for a 10-day overseas business trip, so it’ll be mostly errands: stop mail, do laundry, p/up dry cleaning, pack, etc.
Live shows: Rarely. Not for any particular reason but I just don’t get around to it as much as I used to. I love Riverdance! have seen it three times live and would jump at the chance to see it again.

Samantha Avatar

Those teeth! Ha! I love it. I always laugh when my Siberian Husky or little black cat show their teeth. My cat’s top teeth are so, so tiny which is even more adorable.

Haul: Milk Makeup Holographic Stick in Mars, Milk Makeup Blur Stick, Tarte Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Birthday Suit, Sephora Collection Sleeping Mask in Rose and Pearl, and MUFE Chromatic Oil Base in 11 White (to mix with my IT Cosmetics CC in Fair).
Weekend plans: Hopefully rest! I am a small business owner and have worked over 60 hours this week. I will probably clean my house, shop, cook for the week, and work some.
Do you like attending plays/live shows?: I stay so busy I have not seen a show since “Wicked” came through a couple of years ago. I would love to see a show soon, though. Going to shows is honestly one of my favorite things to do.

Haul: MAC Rosy Cheeks Extra Dimension Blush (so lovely and it just makes me want the other 2 I like all the more); Nars Rue Allent duo (as I suspected, I hate the white side but adore the black with touches of green and teal awesomeness) and Shiseido Eudermine “stuff” (I forget what it’s called but it’s one of those toner/pre-serum/elixir things. I’d been thinking of getting it for ages and picked it up at SDM for 20% off AND paid most of the remainder with my Optimum points! I also picked up some L’Oreal spray root touch up stuff – it is a great product and gives me 2 or 3 additional weeks before I need to have my hair coloured again.

Weekend plans: gym tomorrow and, hopefully, my daughter and son in law and hubby will spoil me on Sunday (both my sons are away – one in Barcelona or on his way to Dublin and the other in Japan.

Plays/Live Shows – oh YES please….sign me up!

I’d never had the ED blushes (I loved the Mineralize ones with glow finishes, though) but I recall seeing reviews of them and some were lacking. These new ones, though – perfection. I love them so much, I might even purchase one of the more peach/coral ones at some point because even they look lovely.

Mariella Avatar

I’ve never seen or heard of that product, Linda, so I am guessing it’s not available in Canada, though I did purchase something that sounds very similar called WOW – it looks like light brown eyeshadow! But the spray stuff works quicker – it so fast and easy to apply. But I keep the WOW stuff around for doing my temples when they need doing.

kjh Avatar

Not sure about this, M, but Ulta did have some Madison Reed online in the US, and I noticed they now ship to Canada. Idk if it is prohibitive, though. Check it out. MR has an excellent reputation.

Mariella Avatar

I just looked at their video for the root touch up powder that is on their website and it really is exactly like the WOW stuff I got (only WOW comes with a double-sided brush, which I prefer). The cost and hassle of ordering from ULTA is a real disincentive, especially since the L’Oreal stuff is so easy to use and was on sale for less than $10. But thanks for the info. I do wish ULTA would open up here – there are so many products I’d like to be able to get (though perhaps, much like Sephora, the products I would want wouldn’t even be available here in ULTA).

Haul: Nothing that came in, but I ordered some of Tanya Burr’s new collection yesterday. I’m mostly focused on rebuilding my wardrobe (my StitchFix is coming in today!) as I pretty much had to start from scratch after I gained weight during this illness thing.

Weekend plans: sleep, chill, enjoy the last weekend without my mom around…

Do you like attending plays/live shows?: Not usually, and definitely not these days but that’s a disability issue. I don’t really like crowds or loud noise, but if I’m seeing them in a place with assigned seating and it’s someone really worth seeing like the Rolling Stones, then yeah I’d love to. But honestly most recent artists’ tracks are so autotuned or refined in recording they sound crappy in person. I do like orchestra and smaller, more intimate jazz clubs that have a mellow environment though.

Anne Avatar

I basically started with just StitchFix, as I can’t really go out and do the whole “try a bunch of things on” thing anymore, and online has never really worked for me, and it was even worse now that I’ve gained weight and had no idea what size I was. First I (my mom being my hands and me pointing at things) cleared out everything in my closet and dresser that didn’t fit, which was about 95% of what I owned (we boxed it up in case I get better, and if not it will already be easier to donate as it’s in specific boxes). Then I started thinking about what pieces I’d been finding myself frustrated by not having (JEANS, a few nice tops, some casual tops, a dress or two, etc). Then I just tried StitchFix.

I tried out one box figuring it wouldn’t work, and while a few items didn’t fit or weren’t my style, I got a really nice shirt the first round. Then each successive round they’ve gotten better with what my style is, what my sizing is, etc and now this box I kept all 5 items. It’s also helped me figure out my own style more, as they’ll send things slightly outside my comfort zone that will actually be really flattering on me. I started a Pinterest board for them as you can link one so they have a better idea of what you like, and that made me think more about my own personal style as well as what type of stuff I actually wear (I’m not attending any fancy events, etc).

Now I’ve started ordering from ModCloth as I’ve gotten the hang of returns (StitchFix makes it hella easy and has a giant USPS bag โ€“ postage paid โ€“ that you put all you’re returns into and just drop them off at the postal service) and I noticed that the stuff I could afford was mostly pinned from there.

Haul: Bobbi brown sunset glow highlighter
Becca/Chrissy T palette
Tom Ford Nude Dip quad
Aveeno Skin calming foam Cleanser
Shisheido Make up remove
Coola gift pack( mainly wanted spf spray)
Marc Jacob highliners x 5, orange, blaquer, grey fox, peridot, out of the blue (brown out on the way.
The Ordinary Moisturizer, Buffet and Acrielic Acid ( spelled wrong)

I got all the haul last night but the Marc Jacobs.

I have to mention the fantastic customer service I recieved from Marc Jacobs. They accidentally sent me the blue eyeliner instead of the brown immediately shipped it out 2 day post and told me to keep the blue. So nice! It’s making me want to buy that coconut dew primer now!

Weekend: working 10 hrs sat and will ride on Sunday and mow if I can get the tire on my mower.

I love live music but don’t go a lot. Plays are ok best if you can sit close. We have great outside musicals in the summer but hard to enjoy bc it’s always miserably hot and humid.

Happy Friday!

Funny dog!

Haul: Tarte Make Believe in yourself palette and travel size Lights, Camera, Lashes! So happy with it along with the Jouer Springtime in Paris palette, I’m in love ?! Are you currently testing the Jouer palette, I know you’ve worn it for photos? Will you be reviewing it?

Weekend plans: My fiance and daughter will go swimming tomorrow with my fiance’s mum, they’ll go in the morning though so I’m not going, I’m going to make the most of the break lol! I’ve no other plans for the weekend as yet, we’ll see how it pans out.

Do I like attending shows/ live performances? Yes I do, I love plays and musicals but they have to be captioned or interpreted into sign. Ballet or dance though doesn’t need to be, obviously. I wanted to be a ballet dancer when I was young. I don’t get much chance to see performances these days, and they’re quite expensive which is a shame.

Dianne Avatar

Aw, Mellan is adorable! I will never get over his bow ties! My dog loves this pose; we call it “the Fenway flop” and he’ll do it on command if he’s in a playful mood. He rarely falls asleep that way, though!

Haul: Nails Inc Unicorn nail polish duo (one bottle didn’t have a brush– what the heck?!), DevaCurl Wavy Mini Transformation Kit (for summer travels), Estee Lauder Teint Idole stick foundation in the right color finally, and the Tarte birthday freebie from Sephora.

Weekend plans: Hitting the winery with my brother and parents tomorrow for Mother’s Day, and an alternative rock festival on Sunday.

Do I like plays/live shows? Yes, my boyfriend and I frequently attend live comedy shows, see concerts and musicals at the Kennedy Center, and have date nights in a small town a couple hours away with an amazing Shakespeare company. He’s also a big fan of attending local punk rock shows, but I usually sit those out. ๐Ÿ™‚

Haul: Not much, since we went to Disneyland last weekend… I mostly picked up some odds & ends, such as sunscreen & a few NYX lippies. The only “big” items I bought were MAC F&B in C1 (which I absolutely LOVE!), UD Relish, and UD Nocturnal Shadow Box, which was an impulse buy, as it was the last one still on the shelf. The sunscreen I picked up is Coppertone Clearly Sheer Faces SPF 50, and it plays well with makeup; so far I’ve tried it with MAC F&B and WnW PhotoFocus (which I also picked up in Nude Ivory-better shade match than the one I had already in Porcelain).

Plans: Finishing up my daughter’s science project/display, catching up on sleep, and cleaning, unpacking/laundry, and reorganizing my makeup & closet. I’m also going to try my hand at dying some clothes…

Plays/Shows: It’s been a while, but I do like the idea of going. Unfortunately, I get extremely peeved when people arrive late, which happens too often for my liking (and House Staff allows it…), so I’ve stopped going. As for concerts, I prefer smaller theatres, and unless it’s someone I really want to see, I don’t care for stadium shows.

Money saving tip: Sometimes, theatres do “rush” tickets, which means they just want to fill up seats. They’re often sold at a set price, but some may be “pay what you can”. The downside to these tickets is that they’re typically Saturday matinees, and you may not be seated with your ” party”, but it may be the only way to see an otherwise sold-out show (the main reason they do this is to fill the theatre after the cast/crew can get back into the flow after 3-4 days off).

Some colleges also have strong Theatre departments, and often put on professional caliber shows, so that’s something else to look into.

I bought White a while back, to lighten too-dark foundations, but it was too thin to really make a difference. However, I liked it as a base for heavier/drier formulas, or under a powder foundation. I noticed it didn’t “pool” in my pores, so I’ve been wanting to try a bit of color. One part C1 + 2-3 parts White is perfection!

We’ve been having cooler temps this last week, but I’m looking forward to trying it when things heat up.

Haul: Just got my first Colourpop order. Got the peachy keen set and the love line set and two ultra satin lip glosses. I’ll have to see how I like it

Weekend : getting my nails done with my daughter and attending her band concert. Plus brunch on Sunday

Live shows: I love plays, musicals. I’d see more but in a small town, you don’t get much of that. I’d have to drive an hour, pay for parking, the tickets and out to eat. It’s can be so pricey to do such stuff:(

Haul: Sephora Color Switch by Vera Mona, touch in Sol Metallist & Glitter foil shadow duo in Adelio and Linda, Smashbox Always on liquid lipstick in Blast Off, KVD liquid lipstick in A-Go-Go, Revlon Photo Ready eye art in Cristal Cobalt and Lilac Luster( similar to the touch in Sol Glitter shadows!) , Sephora Rough tint lip in 06 Orange and Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid lip Orange Obsession . I’m clearly on a orange lip kick.

Weekends Plans: Go out to dinner with friends on Saturday, Dinner with my daughter on Sunday not sure if my husband can get away from work to come home this weekend.

Do you attending plays/live shows?: Yes I love a good play or performance. I saw Wicked here in Tampa and I also saw it in London. But that was a while ago. Wish I could see Hamilton!

I may have picked up one or two things…

Haul: Nordstrom (triple points) – still waiting on my Chantecaille summer items to ship (Lip Sleeks in Calypso, Coral, Flamingo, Grenadine and Orchid; Corsican Eye Palette Trio and the Sunlight Powder Lumiere highlight, cream blush in Happy), Rose de Man Eye Lift, Shiseido Ultimune Eye Power Concentrate, Cle de Peau Brightening Concentrate Serum and Concentrated Brightening Eye Serum, Radiant Stick Foundation in Ivory, Clarins Instant Light Lip Oil in Raspberry, YSL Tint in Oil in 04 Rose You. On a non-beauty front, I set up a personal shopper at Nordstrom to help me pick out two of my least favorite items to shop for – jeans and bras; I ended up with two pairs of Paige jeans and they are amazingly soft and comfortable. They were the first pairs I tried on and were clear winners; my second choice would have been a pair of AGs, but two pair are more than enough for me. I was partially properly fit on the bra front – I’m between band sizes and apparently going smaller wasn’t the right choice in retrospect, not to mention hideously ugly in my cup size (DDD/G). They went back today too, but I found some absolutely adorable ones in the proper band size and I’m much, much happier (though I wouldn’t object to going down 3 or 4 cup sizes!). I highly recommend the personal shopper option for staples you dread shopping for – I sent my wish/hate list through the day before and they knocked it out of the park.

SpaceNK – By Terry Glow Expert in Terra Rosa and Amber Light, Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic and Retinol Eye Serum, Ferulic and Retinol (facial) Serum, and C+ Collagen Serum.

Sephora – Dr. Dennis Gross C+ Collagen Eye Cream, Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks in Tease, Lazy and Sulfurous (Tease and Lazy got returned – more pink than I wanted; Sulfurous is gorgeous!), AmorePacific Moisturebound Sleeping Recovery Mask, mini of Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt, mini set of Youth to the People Kale + Green Tea Cleanser and Moisturizer, and two masking trios from Boscia with Green Tea Oil-Control Mask, Luminizing Black Masks and Sake Bright White Mask and the Pharmacy Honey Potion and Sleep Tight point perk. I was a little annoyed with Sephora when I was in there the other day; I wanted two samples of the Burberry Fresh Glow 01 and the Becca Backlight Primer and the associate majorly scrimped on the samples. There’s maybe one and a half uses in each and I’m being generous in my assessment. I’ve never had them be so stingy before.

Chantecaille – Seashell Eye and Cheek Trio (Neimans and Nordstrom have the rest of the collection, but the palette seems to be missing from the collection so far) shipping today.

Weekend Plans – Nothing planned as of the moment. I think it’s going to be a quiet homebody weekend here.

Live Plays/Shows – I do enjoy them, but it’s been a long time since I’ve been to one.

Christine Avatar

Thanks for the tip on the personal shopper! ๐Ÿ™‚ Bras can be difficult – so important that you find the right cup/band sizing that is comfortable!

Paige makes great jeans! I also like AG and J Brand for similar price points (I usually get mine during the anniversary sale, though, lol). I also like Wit & Wisdom for something more affordable and very stretchy.

Lea Avatar

I’m definitely going to take more advantage of it, though I haven’t needed anything until now. I was getting my reasonably priced jeans from Banana Republic, but with those running around $100 these days, the stretch to Paige and AG isn’t that far off. I’ll keep Wit & Wisdom in mind too – thanks Christine!

I forgot to mention for my fellow CdP lovers – the regional Chantecaille manager who did my makeup last week with the summer collection mentioned that the lip sleeks are designed to complete with the CdP lip luminizers. Color selection is smaller to begin with, but the comfort and shine are right in line with the luminizers.

Tammy B Avatar

Those Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks are amazing! I found them by accident during the middle of the week and I will be sharing my impressions in next week’s haul. I also love just about everything AmorePacific makes. Do you recommend the sleeping mask?

Lea Avatar

I had seen the Dior Lacquer sticks before but wasn’t drawn to anything initially. Not sure why I stopped to look again, but Sulfurous just grabbed me. I’m surprisingly more and more drawn in by reds!

I’ll let you know about the sleeping mask; I only picked it up today when returning the other two Dior’s. I’m a big fan of AmorePacific too, so I’m happy to report back.

Tammy Avatar

Lea, I just checked in my purse and saw that I bought Sulfurous too! I wanted L.A. Pink but they were out so I grabbed Sulfurous. I wore it for the remainder of the week, a very nice wearable red that works with my warm medium skin tone. I tried to avoid Sassy (a dark fuchsia) as fuchsias always look great on me and I am trying to stop buying them, but once I put Sassy on, it was a done deal. Sephora was out of Sassy, so I went to Neimans (out too) and finally found it at Nordstrom. The sales lady was so upset because I bought her last one and after seeing it on me, she wanted to buy it too. Just a stunning color. I had three women commenting on how amazing it looked.

But the formula is the real draw. Those lipsticks feel so wonderfully moisturizing on the lips, are loaded with pigment, glossy too, and they don’t feather. I don’t know how Dior brought together all my favorite things into one lipstick formula but they did. Up until now, Bite and NARS were making my favorite lipstick formulas. Now Dior Lacquer sticks have taken the lead. I hope they make more colors!

Lea Avatar

I’ll have to check Sassy out on my next Nordstrom visit. Sulfurous is one of those shades that works on a lot of skin tones – you being medium and me being on the pretty fair side. I used to avoid reds like the plague because of the contrast with my fair skin and dark hair, but there are some real beauties coming out in the last year that have me converted! I need to take a better look at my non-comfort zone shades. The Chantecaille MUA put a coral lip liner on me with the new Lip Sleeks in Tango (he was determined to show me a look I’d love out of my comfort zone) and the Corsica eye trio with a blue and green on my eyes. I fell in love!! I know I can wear peaches, but corals and oranges were news to me! I may need to go nuts and consider putting the CdP radiant liquid lip in orange into my wardrobe for the summer!

Side note on the shadows – Chantecaille French mills it’s shadows five times, so the pigment is meant to build up, rather than blend down. It’s similar to CdP shadows, so just know what to expect going in. I know a lot of folks here like a big bang right off the bat.

LindaP Avatar

That personal shopper idea is a great one! FWIW, should you need another option to consider for jeans… on a flyer I bought skinny jeans at Ann Taylor. I have to say super comfy, and they look nice. I think you have to go a size down because the stretch is generous — which is a good thing!

Haul: 8 Nyx eyeshadows (ordered Wednesday, delivered today!)

Weekend plans: taking my mom plant-shopping for Mother’s Day, then planting everything.

Do you like attending plays/live shows? I enjoy plays, but I’m too old for rock concerts any more.

Jammies Avatar

I always buy a bunch of heliotrope because it smells wonderful, Mom and I both get tomatoes and basil, and this year I’m looking for a rugged groundcover that can take a lot of sun!

Not much haul this week but finally broke down and purchased the simplehuman Brand Make-Up Mirror . I got the one that mounts on the wall and recharges so I’m not dealing with batteries and what not . I wish I bought this thirty years ago . It has 5X magnification, which is plenty (!). It makes all the difference in the world as to how my makeup looks when I go outside . I still can’t believe I didn’t invest in this sooner !

Weekend – funny you should mention about shows . My husband is a First Tenor and Actor and I’m off to see him in a show tonight . When he is not in rehearsal or performing we see as many shows as we can , but still can’t make each one that our friends are in . Sunday is a special Church Event then time to celebrate Mothers Day . Happy Mothers Day to all of you .

*OCC RTW Lip Tars in Strange & Unusual, Red Dragon, and Indrid.
*Nyx Liquid Crystal Liner in Crystal Hip.

Weekend plans: Tomorrow we’re taking my older son to Eugene to visit relatives. Sunday we’ll go out to lunch or something for Mother’s Day with my younger son.

Do you like attending plays/live shows?: I love to, but I don’t get to do so very often.

That’s an interesting way for a doggie to sleep – he looks like he’s got himself into a good spot. What a darling!

Haul: Innika eye brow pencil; Swisse CoQ10 Anti-Aging Facial Moisturiser – which is a cruelty free brand and their eye cream.

Weekend Plans: It’s Mother’s Day here on Sunday, but one of my sons is working and the other one and family have gone away for the weekend – so I am going to the city for the day to myself. What bliss!

Attending live plays/shows: Yes I love them, but I don’t often go because of the cost and hassle of parking etc.
I loved Riverdance (my favourite) and the Book of Mormons was excellent.

Haul: Becca Chrissy Teigan palette x 2, one for my daughter and one for me, Nyx Tre Jolie liner, L’Orรฉal eye brow pencil in blonde, Maybelline quad shadows in plum colorway, Rimmel Kate Lipstick in 107 and Coola lip balm in Rose Mint.
Weekend plans: My daughter is graduating tomorrow and her half sister is flying in today for the ceremony. We live 3 hours away from the University and her half sister hasn’t been to Montana before so we are trying to cram a lot into the weekend as she has to leave on Monday morning so we will be hitting some of the particularly pretty spots on Sunday. Then we are meeting my mother and family at a local restaurant for Mother’s Day.
Live show’s: I love going to live shows but since I started having vestibular migraines I have to be careful. Strobe lights, booming bases, loud noises and the bass reverberations all are triggers. I take ear plugs and close my eyes if there are flashing lights. Some shows I just know are not going to be good so I just don’t go. I love live stage productions and my daughter and I are hoping to see Anastasia in New York later this year.
On a side note, prior to having migraines I saw a lot of live bands as I really love most types of music. I got to see Prince live and will always be thankful that I took the opportunity to see him then. I didn’t always agree with his stage antics or behaviors but the man gave an amazing show and was uber talented.

Haul: Givenchy Le Rouge Gypsophila summer 2017. It went from Coming Soon to Sold Out on Sephora’s website and I never saw it available there, so I was really surprised that my local store still had it, as well as the Pret-a-Porter version. I grabbed it as soon as I saw it since I try to collect the LE Le Rouge.

*Haul – UD x Basquait Eyeliner in Anatomy -I wasn’t going to get this, as UD eyeliners smudge on my oily lids, but I fell in love with the lipstick in Epigram and decided to get this matching eyeliner. It lasts about 8-9 hrs over primer and powdered shadow, so not the most bulletproof formula, but the color is SO unique and matches Epigram lipstick so well, I’m glad I got it. Also got Maybelline Master Precise Skinny Gel Eyeliners in Charcoal and Brown, so skinny they are great for tight lining
*Weekend – hoping to get a Sephora/Ulta Gift card for Mother’s Day ๐Ÿ™‚
*Plays/live shows – yes, I like them, but seldom go, since they are expensive, and we have to find babysitter for our toddler

Haul: Received Chanel Coco Rouge Stylo in Sepia. Nothing otherwise.

Weekend: I’m home visiting family and friends. The best of times!

Attending live events: Going to concerts is in my blood and I try to see the artists I really like, working around the inconvenience of living in a smaller city not always on the tour circuit and a health condition that can make travel problematic. We have tickets to our local symphony, and attend, with less frequency, sports events, comedians, and plays.

Happy Mothers’ Day to all moms, aunties, sisters, and friends who provide love, support, and guidance to others, and to those who hold special women close to their heart in remembrance.

Plays ans liveshows, I love going to all kinds of plays, opera, ballet, musicals, concerts. the only things I might have against it all is the cost, tickets are expensive, and sometimes hard to come by, and when I see plays, I so want to be up on the stage, it’s even a physical longing. Really weird as I have stage fright.
