Haul: picking up some essentials like concealer, cleanser, toner with my 20% off Ulta coupon
Weekend plans: Nothing yet aside from watching Dead 7 tonight on Sy Fy!
What inspires you?: nature, travel, other people’s stories, books, art

Lynda Delucas Avatar

Thanks Monica! Your comment made me check my email and I got the 20% off too. Not sure what I will use it on yet. I wish the expiration date was longer cause I won’t have my disability check by then which means I have to beg hubby. I have an idea for a question too! We should ask everyone if you get screamed at every time you buy makeup? That’s what happens to me. He thinks I’m only one with a collection and doesn’t understand how things work. He doesn’t understand about replaceable things like mascara etc.

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh no way! My hubby rolls his eyes every time a box shows up at the front door, but I’m financially responsible, and I use my own hard-earned money to buy the makeup, so he doesn’t have any say in it. And he’s smart enough to just “let it be”, because he knows it makes me happy

monica Avatar

haha I’ve been good and have only been getting things that I need. I’ve never been scolded for buying makeup because it was my only splurge items. I go through phases where I’m really into makeup and when I’m not really feeling it. Thankfully this is the phase where I’m not really all that interested because travel is more frequent for me.

Katherine T. Avatar

Mellan looks deeeep in thought there!
*Haul- Loving everything in my Colour Pop haul ! Jonesing Lippie Stix & Liner, Shadows (Puppy Love, Crenshaw, Porter), Blush (New Lowes), and Lip Liners (Petit Four & Bull Chic). I tried Petit Four (gray lipliner) with my NYX Stone Cold (metallic silver gray lipstick), and it looked quite stunning on me, I was quite surprised. I’m going to wear it outside and rock it
*Weekend – relax, narrow down my wish list for Ulta/Sephora sales, test makeup
*What inspires me – makeup, colors, books, nature

Katherine T. Avatar

Yes, I was really surprised I could pull it off! I was sure I would look like the Walking Dead, but with the Petit Four lip liner, I can use it to mix the perfect shade of gray. And I left the final color a little bit translucent and satiny, so it’s easier to pull off. But yep, I’m definitely interested in trying other gray lippies!

Katherine T. Avatar

Yes, they sent out an email saying last call for Puppy Love, so I grabbed it. It’s quite pretty. In the future, I hope they will issue new shades as it’s for a good cause.

Nancy T Avatar

I hope they do, too. Hoping they bring Meow out of retirement for cat rescue operations, such as TNR programs in various communities! And bring back Puppy Love for an encore.

Katherine T. Avatar

Yes, never thought gray lipstick would look good on me, so what a nice surprise! I’m going to have to revisit MAC Halsey to see if that might work too

Katherine T. Avatar

Go for it Fran!! You only live once, and if I can rock it, you can too. I’m going to have to get a back up of CP Petit Four, so hard to find gray lip liners, especially at such a great price. I like how I can use it to mix colors, so I can get the perfect shade of gray/silver that looks good on me 🙂

Fran Avatar

Now you have me thinking I really need that pencil, to try with my two blue lipsticks, which I also love, but haven’t worn anywhere yet. I keep telling myself I’ll wear them to school (which means wearing them on the train to school, too, and walking a mile through the city, so I guess I’ll get to see a lot of reactions, lol!)

Nicole Avatar

I’ve not tried mixing those yet! I can imagine some really nice combos! That’s a great idea for those that are too bright or too dark! Thanks Fran. 🙂

Fran Avatar

I did it! I wore Petit Four grocery shopping at my local food co-op today, and experienced a first: an unsolicited compliment on my lipstick from another customer who I didn’t know 🙂 (I’ve had a few compliments from staff before, but never from another customer who I didn’t know.) I asked a couple of women I ran into what they thought of it, and they liked it. My son did not tell me that I shouldn’t go out in it (but, I didn’t ask for his opinion — if I had, he might have recommended against wearing it, as he was against me going out in a combination of Ardency Inn Black is Blue with Sephora + Pantone Universe Serenity when I asked, so this time I didn’t ask 🙂

I wore it (Petit Four) with a charcoal grey and tomato-red striped top, with a neutral eye (Clarins silver ivory and sparkle grey) and a plummy blush (MUFE I838 Slate Pink), and it looked like a dark teal rather than a grey! Interesting!

Rachel R. Avatar

Nice!!! I love that you paired gray with tomato red. What a great color combo. I will be stealing it. 😉 My older son is artsy, so he loves it when I wear “weird” colored lips. My younger son is oblivious. lol I have to find other ways to embarrass them.

Katherine T. Avatar

Yaaaay, Fran!! I knew you could rock it! That combo sounds great, and a compliment from a stranger, too. You go girl ! 🙂

KJH Avatar

Oooh, ooh, you scored Squad! Missed it, I’m jealous. Missed puppy love, too. Well, you can’t buy everything. The gray sounds terrific! Enviable haul. High speed go, girl. I’d do it if I were only a decade younger. That would be pushing 60, rather than 70. Still do Icon, but charcoals….It’s such a banker color and yet so unexpected on the lips. Think how dada it would be to do petit four lips and morello cherry or MUG Razzleberry eyes. I’ve always had an oppositional and/or surrealistic streak. Some MUFE ashy color as blush. Reversal of makeup. Nice.

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh that’s an interesting reversal -red shadow and gray lipstick! I’ve actually been experimenting with reddish shadows on my lids, looks surprisingly pretty, will need to put on a gray lip next time to see how that looks. As for age, I think you should never be too old to wear what you want 🙂

Zoya (Buy 2 Sets for $15 Each): Vibrant Petals Quad and Soft Petals Quad (All 6 Shades from the Spring Collection in Minis Plus 2 Lipsticks) – Scheduled to arrive next Tuesday

Weekend plans: Mani on my sadly cut off nails. My weekday tragedy was snapping a nail off. *sad face* Plans depend on the weather. They’re calling for a chance of rain/snow showers. I’d like to make it to TJMaxx since I didn’t last weekend. I’m also planning on catching up on writing for my blog – need to write UD Heartless, Kat Von D Plum, MUFE Acrylip, MAC x Charlotte Olympia pigment…sigh…I’ve been lazy 🙂

What inspires you?: Honesty, Justice, Art, Architecture

Katherine T. Avatar

Great haul! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Kat Von D Plum quad, and the Lorac highlighters in Starlight and Daylight 🙂

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Kat Von D should be up no later than Sunday. I am seriously hoping it performs tomorrow better than it swatched. Swatched out like a muddy hot mess! Super dusty too. Probably one of the dustiest palettes I’ve tried in a very long time. Fingers crossed it does better over eye primer; I really wanted these to work bc I like the matte quad concept. I won’t have the highlighter until next week so they should be up mid-end of next week.

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh yikes, hope they aren’t like the new KVD blush duos, which were disasters 🙁 In terms of mattes, Colour Pop has some good ones, some of the best I’ve tried, and their hybrid cream-powder formula makes them smoother and last longer. But their mattes get overshadowed (pun intended) by their more shimmery and glittery sisters. If you’re looking for mattes, I’ll check my CP stash this weekend for recs.

Tammy B Avatar

My haul is from Ulta. There have been many great products I’ve purchased during the 21 Days of Beauty. I got an Anastasia brow pencil in dark brown, Laura Geller Baked Blush in fruit punch (really pretty and was still going strong 10 hours later), Benefit Stay Don’t Stray (this is the best primer I have ever used), and Stila Smudge Sticks in Graphite, Stingray, Spice, Expresso, and Mint Julep.

I also picked up a new MAC 239 brush. I had no idea how happy a fresh 239 would make me: I can’t wait to use it every morning, lol.

Weekend plans: My baby boy turns 19 tomorrow. All family coming and we are smoking ribs. Looking forward to seeing my oldest daughter and my two grandchildren.

What inspires me: Music, recipes, books and movies, make up blogs, photos of make up and fashion looks and accomplished women.

Tammy B Avatar

Michelle, I am funny about brow products, I like to mix them up. Some days I want to use a gel, some days a powder, and some days a pencil. The brow pencil is good, I have no complaints.

Tammy B Avatar

Thanks, Susan. My oldest turned 33 last month, and I have a 30 and 25 year old in between. Jesse is my late baby, coming a full 14 years after my first child?

Rachel R. Avatar

Happy Birthday to your son! He’s very lucky to be getting smoked ribs. Yummy! My younger boy turned 19 on the 31st. Time sure flies, doesn’t it? My older one turned 21 in February. How did I become the mother of two adults?!

Haul: I purchased the Cargo Venice Enchantment palette, FINALLY. The only place I could find that still carried it was Kohl’s. Aside from the fact that I don’t like to use my card on their site (I feel like they were hacked a few times?), when I went to see how much it would cost to just buy the palette the shipping was like $8-no way I’m doing that, but it was free over $80 or something, so I got a gift card and ended up getting a Juicy Couture cross body purse and an Eco Tools large powder brush. They’re both really nice and I needed a new purse anyways. And of course I love the palette. I can’t believe I waited so long to get it.

Ruelala: I got some items from my “Still Want It” list that I don’t think I mentioned last week: Guerlain Maxi Shine Lip Gloss in Fuchsia Ding (I will collect this in literally every color), Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Petillante, Guerlain High Precision Lip Liner in Terre de Sienne.

Glossier: Phase 2 Set (boy brow in blonde, concealer in light, Generation G in crush), Perfecting Skin Tint in Light, GWP Balm Dotcom. I guess I’m going to end up keeping Light and Medium, because they both work for different areas of my face (medium’s a little better at covering redness). I’m in love with the Skin Tint though-it’s so nice to have a low maintenance option. Frankly, I love everything. I’ve actually been using the boy brow over my ABH powder (it matches my hair color better!), the Generation G is a gorgeous bright for an everyday look and the concealer is by far the best I’ve ever used on my undereye area in terms of color matching, correcting AND not creasing terribly. Also, I used the Balm Dotcom last night on my undereye area as a sort of sleep mask and my skin is ridiculously soft this morning. So yeah. New favorite brand.

Beautyhabit: L’Artisan Parfumeur L’Eau D’Ambre Extrême Eau de Parfum, T. LeClerc Petales de Rose powder blush and Mango crème blush, sample perfume pack (Ginestet Perfumes-Le Boise, Fifi Chachnil-Fifi Eau de Parfum and Diptyque-L’Ombre Dans L’Eau Eau de Parfum), GWP T. LeClerc lipstick.

Weekend plans: I can’t believe that it’s almost the weekend already. It feels like this whole week flew right by me in two days! I don’t have any plans for the weekend yet.

What inspires you?: People who really know their craft, feeling restless, the sun being out all day, fiction books, art/decorating/cook books, music.

Nicole Avatar

Thank you! Do you mean the Land Down Under palette? I’ve already bought that one and I love it (I’ve only used it once, for what it’s worth). I actually bought it specifically for the color Ferry, which is sort of a matte purple/gray that occasionally pulls brown-one of the more interesting colors I’ve seen in a while. There are five matte shades (all neutrals) in it if I’m remembering correctly and they’re all really nice. The blues need building up but they do build up well. The only colors in the palette that are subpar are Beach and Sand, but they’re both colors that we all probably have a million of in our collections so it’s not really a loss. The palette is supposed to be a beach theme but it reminds me so strongly of the desert. I spent quite a few years living in Arizona and in California and when I swatched these colors it immediately made me think of the desert in summer, basically. I’m really happy with it.

Nicole Avatar

I get that-Cargo can be kind of hit or miss, especially for their price point. That is funny! It definitely stands out, in a good way. You’re welcome! Oh gosh, I’m sorry about that. I think I used my code the first day I got it-there’s just always too much I need to get, lol.

Tammy B Avatar

Glad to hear your recommendation for the Glossier products. I’ve been trying one product at a time and have been pleased so far. I think this system might be perfect for my oldest daughter, who wants some moisture and light coverage but doesn’t want her system to be too high maintenance.

Nicole Avatar

It sounds like it would be perfect for her! I do find the Skin Tint and concealer to be a little moisturizing and dewy-they sort of give this “I’m not wearing any makeup and doesn’t my skin look so healthy?” effect. They’re definitely not high maintenance. You don’t even need brushes or a sponge to apply them correctly.

Joyce Avatar

Hi Nicole! I work at Kohl’s. I didn’t know about the hacks.. now you’re making me nervous! Lol! But I usually shop in-store.

Earning Kohl’s Cash & Yes2You Rewards sometimes makes it worth getting prestige makeup, but I’m like… I know TheBalm has 50% sitewide sales, so my 15% (or 35% twice a year) isn’t really that enticing ;P

That palette has been intriguing me because they’re colors I gravitate towards, but nothing about Cargo really excites me? Maybe it’s because they don’t get much attention, or maybe it’s because I don’t care for their tin packaging… I don’t know. Let me know how you like the palette!

Nicole Avatar

Hi Joyce! Oh gosh, I’m sorry! Lol! If the hacks did happen like I’m remembering I think it was a few years ago-I just have to be cautious because my bank’s fraud detection (or whatever it is) is extremely strict and will freeze my card if I shop somewhere it doesn’t like. Shopping at Target, for example, will make my card freeze, so I’m always thinking about that.

Lol! I can’t blame you there. Thanks for letting me know about TheBalm having those sales! I’ve never checked out their website before, but I’ve been curious about trying some of their products.

I get that. Cargo really isn’t an exciting brand, at least not as far as advertising and packaging go (I truly don’t know why they don’t decorate their packaging more with images, or just something). I really love the palette! It doesn’t have any mattes in it, which is usually a no for me, but I love a good amount of the colors enough that I’m willing to not care. Carnival and Palazzo look the most matte, although they both have light shimmer in them, Palazzo more than Carnival. The only colors in the palette I don’t like are Canal and Gilded, both golds (just like in the Land Down Under palette, the golds just aren’t that good). But Carnival, Rialto, Lagoon, Palazzo, Murano, etc, are all just so pretty. They apply well too. I’ve used Carnival, Rialto and a few of the others with no complaints so far.

Joyce Avatar

That’s so funny… I’m always like, I’m not impressed with awesome golds/silvers/bronzes because I feel like they’re hard to mess up? Like the ingredients for these shades are just inherently smooth and pigmented? Lol sorry the golds in the palette stink!

How do you feel about staying power? I’m not familiar with Cargo shadows. Something about that palette made me think it’s like a Lorac Private Affair palette which has awesome pigmentation initially, then you look down, look back in the mirror, and the color is completely faded!

Nicole Avatar

I know, isn’t that so strange? It’s amazing to me that golds are the one color that they seem to constantly fail at. I mean, in the Land Down Under palette both blues are better than the golds. It’s like the Twilight Zone for eyeshadow. Thank you! Luckily I’m not short of gold toned eyeshadows lol!

I can’t say that I’ve had that issue with this palette, although I totally know where you’re coming from-it does have that look to it. I do always wear a primer, so I’m sure that factors in a lot. I pretty much take photos of every makeup look I do (usually about an hour after I do my makeup, just because I’m always running around) and when I look at the ones I’ve created with this palette the colors are pretty obvious-even smiling I can tell what colors I have on my lid and when I zoom in I can even see the gradation between different colors that I’ve layered (although maybe that’s just my crappy blending, lol). So I think as long as you use a primer it would be fine.

KJH Avatar

Also theBalm at least used to show up on Hautelook. Got 4 blushes @50%, but got sick of the 10,000 emails. Do like their blushes, both formulas. Cargo has had an odd history; wonder if it has been bought out a few times? When Cargo started, it was a Barney’s exclusive. Yeah, Barney’s. That Barney’s. Then it was at Sephora. They gave it up, and it went to Ulta and was instore. Then Ulta online only and Kohl’s. But Kohl’s has Bliss (Marcia Kilgore sold it off and now I think has sold off Fitflop…). Which used to be very exclusive…. Marcia also sold off Soap and Glory, that also did the Bliss catalog>Sephora>Ulta route. See any patterns? Think my favorite Cargo will always be the beach blush.

Haul: I was not in the mood to go anywhere this week but I did order a few things online. I picked up a few of the new Too Faced items that I should get next week. I also ordered the Best Damn Beauty Lip Mask yesterday that Fed Ex says I’ll get today. From California to Alberta in a day!!! Wow!

Weekend plans: Tiger balm, lots of walks with puppy and Netflix. I just signed up for the one month free trial so I need to see what’s on there if I wanna keep it. Thankfully this is a good weekend to relax after some really intense cross fit this week. My instructor has really stepped up the classes and they are super hard. I’m so sore today… It’s also supposed to be really nice this weekend in Calgary so that means lots of long, wandering walks with my little girl.

What inspires you?: I think positivity, kindness, honesty, a strong work ethic and passion are what inspire me the most. My mom is officially eligible for retirement today but she wants to keep working for a few years still because she loves her job (she’s a teacher in a special needs school in Toronto). Seeing how much my mom loves working and using her down time to really enjoy her life with her family and friends is my life inspiration. She’s my hero! I also see some incredible beauty bloggers and YouTubers that are constantly posting and put in so much time and energy into creating a career out of something they love. To me that is an incredible inspiration.

Haul: Zoeva eyeliner collection and Smoky eyeshadow palette, Estee Lauder blushes in Audacious Plum and Mauve Mystique

Weekend plans: More work on Taxes (last weekend’s ice storm power outage put the kibosh on my momentum..I have internet based accounting) so this weekend it is an absolute must. Sigh

What inspires you?: My partner Hairball, People with outstanding work ethics and high expectations, Mother Nature, my dogs, random acts of kindness.

Is Mellan waiting for food? I have a giant elevated doggie bed which the 4 dogs have been trained to jump up (I do help the little mini long-hair dachshund up) and wait patiently for their food to be prepared/dished up/served. They do not eat until I have placed their bowls in front of them and given the okay clear signal: yes, one of the few times where I feel I am in absolute control of all of them and have their complete and undivided attention. LOL

KJH Avatar

Mini LH? Lovelovelove. Mine was cream, killed and ate everything that moved. When she was 16 and her teeth were no longer good, she rolled the mice to death and presented the little pancakes for praise. Gave herself a partial ileus by killing and eating a snake that the vets estimate was 17″ long. The ribs looked like fat eyelashes in the X-ray. 6# of terror. Loved that faux benign creature. Envy you, too. Used to have four dogs and am down to one. B/TSH dachshund. Jussi Sperling. Means Jack Sparrow in German

Wednesday Avatar

I am constantly struck by the dichotomy of their personality; so genuinely sweet and lovable in the house and such fierce and total terrors outside. I have a deep connection to this dog. We have so many stories (3 x to vet with him trying to mess with porcupines..proudly dragging a gopher he killed twice his size up the driveway, a near miss when he decided to take on a coyote in 2009, another near miss in 2010 when we subsequently had him in emergency surgery to the tune of $10K for the blown vertebrae in his neck; a moment where he tested my love by killing a baby lamb I named Bumpkin (as in country bumpkin..grin) which I had spent days nurturing to health (I had even slept with it a couple of nights). He is wickedly independent in thought and action and I admire his ferocious courage and indomitable spirit. The breed speaks to me like no other. Every time we lose a dog to age, I invariably feel the odd number keenly and end up with another. Four seems to be the right number.
Co-inkydink: I have a black rooster who has taken a shine to me and I call him Jack Sparrow. Jussi would make a great nickname for him.

Nicole Avatar

If you’ve used the Zoeva Smoky palette or others from them, do you mind sharing your thoughts on them? I’ve been considering getting some Zoeva palettes for months now, but because of the high shipping charge I really want to make sure it’s worth it. I can’t find a lot of Zoeva palette reviews for whatever reason.

Wednesday Avatar

Hey there Nicole: I do not have the Smoky palette quite yet. It is winging its way from Germany. I do have other eyeshadow palettes from Zoeva and find they work best with primer. I have the Zoeva primer, but I like using a cream colour base such as MAC paintpot or NYX Milk pencil better. I have mature eyes and need a base to get good eyeshadow adherence. The eyeshadows tend to feel stiffer to me; a bit like MUFE. If you do not like that texture, and prefer softer shadows, you probably will not like Zoeva. That’s my take on it anyway 🙂

Nicole Avatar

Thank you for your answer, Wwendy! That’s really good to know. I need to swatch some MUFE shadows soon so I can understand what everyone’s talking about-I’ve been avoiding them for a while because I’m fairly picky about the texture of my eyeshadows and it always looks like they have a thick texture to me in online swatches. (Thick eyeshadows=my kryptonite)

If they feel anything like I’m imaging though, I probably would not like Zoeva eyeshadows, in which case thank you for saving me a ton of money! I wanted like 6 of their palettes, LOL. If for whatever reason I do end up getting some I will definitely remember to use a primer with them.

KJH Avatar

Like MUFE? I’m in. Thanks for the paint pot/milk tip. Been honing the Zoeva list since C first posted En Taupe. Not being fully employed, due to age, i have to exercise more restraint than in my former life. So saving up for that, while trying not to magpie all the new pretties. I adore the MUFEs and think that all textures are surprisingly wearable on ‘mature eyes.’ I’ve got psoriatic patches on ’em, too. MUFE shadows are earth, air, fire, and water.

Claire L Avatar

I have the En Taupe palette and love it, it’s perfect for subtle eyes. I had compliments the last time I wore it. I got it from Beauty Bay here in the UK so it’s cheap to ship to my address. To be honest, I’ve heard lots of good things from UK beauty bloggers e.g. Vivianna Does Makeup, about Zoeva palettes, they’re great value. Cocoa Blend and Rose Golden are popular, Rodeo Belle and Love is a Story were all the rage a couple of years ago but they’re still popular. The newest are the ‘Spectrum’ ones. I definitely want to buy another palette sometime, trouble is deciding which one! I fancy Love is a Story, Rodeo Belle, Mixed Metals or Cool Spectrum. Zodiac looks good too. Let us know if you do go for it!

Nicole Avatar

That’s great to know! I was looking at the En Taupe palette and hoping that was the case. It doesn’t look like Beauty Bay carries makeup from Zoeva to ship to the US, which is a huge bummer, since their minimum free shipping is so low. Oh ok! Thank you for mentioning that blog! It looks really interesting. I can’t blame you for having trouble deciding. It really does look like they have a lot of great options. Those ones sound nice! I was looking at the Warm and Cool Spectrum, Rose Garden, Cocoa Blend, En Taupe and probably one or two more (wouldn’t get them all at once I hope, but with that shipping charge…). I guess swatching MUFE shadows will be the test. Thank you, I will! I hope if you get any more that you enjoy them!

Tammy B Avatar

I’ve been wearing Audacious Plum for 5-6 years. I tried it on at the store, purposefully choosing the blush I thought would be be the worst color for me, and ended up falling in love!

Haul: TopShop lipsticks
Weekend plans: Work, grocery shopping, having a lie-in
What inspires you?: Makeup, colours, springtime, happy thoughts

Fran Avatar

Ooooh, exciting posts coming up, good! I start school this week and will probably have less time to read/comment/keep up, but I’ll catch up when I can 🙂

Haul: I’m making up a bag of things to keep myself from going home bare-faced on the train after school after we’ve practiced on each other — some things I can slap on quickly and still make the train, for sun protection and because you never know who you’ll run into 🙂 So:

travel size Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm: Where have you been all my life, Dr. Jart+ Black Label? How is it that I have never tried you before? Let me count the ways in which you are wonderful: YOU ARE NOT YELLOW!, and YOU ARE NOT PINK EITHER! — wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles, YOU ARE JUST RIGHT! (No wonder so many people complain that you’re grey, lol! You match me!); broad-spectrum all-mineral SPF of 25; coverage that’s buildable to almost full — I don’t even need concealer; a lovely moist finish; and nothing irritating like fragrance to upset my skin. Perfection! I can see that you’re going to give my IT Cosmetics CC Cream SPF50+ a run for its money, since I don’t have to mix two shades, all by yourself you look much more like me!!!
And you go gorgeously with Laura Mercier Mineral Powder SPF 15 in Tender Rose — layer on that mineral SPF!
Plus some goodies from Make Up For Ever: Artist Shadow in M540 Grey Beige to use as a contour — it’s light enough that application is fool-proof for me, even if lighting is bad I won’t have to worry about blending perfectly; D552 Crystalline Grey Beige for a one-wash eyeshadow that goes with everything; and four blushes to switch out (drool) — D862 Fairly Pink, which is looking lovely on today; D850 Nitro Pink when I want something bright; I902 Quartz for a light lavender-ish blush; I838 Slate Pink for a darker, cool plummy look; a repurchase of Rouge Artist Natural in N27, Iridescent Blue Pink, which I’ve worn down to a nub; and N10, Iridescent Copper Pink, because I’m always looking for warm pinks that I actually like on myself.

I also got a travel size of Boscia BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 27 PA++ to try, but it’s going to be really tough for it to compete with the Dr. Jart!

For self-indulgence:

Tom Ford Creme Color For Eyes in Opale, Burnished Copper, and Platinum. I love them all; they don’t crease as long as I use the right primer and don’t over-apply, which is actually really good performance for a cream shadow on my lids — so I can do a quicker eye when I don’t want to take time to clean up the mess I make with powders 🙂

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick in Eggplant and Dragonfruit — love both of them, neither bled at the corners like my sample of Radish did.

Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Iridescent (it was an iridescent week) — I love Incandescent, too, but I’m still using up my Ambient Lighting powder in Incandescent, so I guess I’ll wait just a bit longer on that one.

I’m so pleased with all my new toys! And so excited about starting school on Tuesday!

Weekend plans: dinner with a friend tonight, more getting myself organized before school starts. At least I can get up at 5 in the morning now without being in a total brain fog all day long 🙂

What inspires me: Christine, I agree with you! People who are passionate about what they do are so inspiring. Innovation, underdogs, and nature, too 🙂 I also find music and books inspiring — especially historical fiction and science fiction. Good music can change my mood completely.

Hello Fran: which shade of IT cosmetics CC do you wear? I wear the shade light and I like it because it actually reads olive to me and matches the under layer of my skin properly. It’s one of those shades that disappears when I swatch on me immediately. I do have some yellow overtones which it doesn’t pick up, but it’s pretty darned good and now you have me curious about Dr. Jart.

Fran Avatar

Wwendy, Light is just a bit dark for me, so I mix about 3 parts Light with one part Fair — it looks green when I first start putting it on my skin, but that’s good, because it counteracts my rosacea redness. I feel like my skin tone overlaps with olive somehow. I’m very cool-toned, but not pink (the redness is from rosacea), so the vast majority of foundations look too yellow or orange, and a few look too pink, for me. The other decent matches I get are most things that Laura Mercier makes that have the word ‘Rose’ in the shade name; they’re usually not actually pink.

Kat Avatar

Haul: Laura Mercier Matte Radience 01 Highlighter – worth every single penny! You can pack it on and build it up pretty intense without it ever emphasizing texture or looking powdery, and it’s really easy to sheer it out for a more natural look too. Probably the best highlighter I’ve ever used, thank you SO MUCH Christine for recommending it! I also got Benefit Hoola from HSN because they were selling it with the new Hoola Bronzer Brush (with the little bamboo handle) for free, and I was thinking of picking up the brush anyway because I love those kinds of brushes, so I couldn’t say no!

Weekend Plans: I’m going on a field excursion with my professor to see some glacial features nearby on Sunday, so I’m looking forwards to that! But he said that there’ll be a lot of bugs, which I’m not so jazzed about. Also….. Drumroll…. I finally opened up my Etsy shop this week (https://www.etsy.com/shop/quartzknits?ref=hdr_shop_menu, if anyone’s interested ;D) and I have a few new items to photograph and list as part of an upcoming “spring collection,” for lack of a better word. Oh, and posting on my geology blog, which I’m reviving for a project for my new media class. So, I’m pretty busy!

What Inspires Me: The biggest thing that inspires me is when the people around me are as enthusiastic and passionate as I am. A happy, supportive environment full of people who are excited to work and discover together.

Joyce Avatar

I’m glad you love Matte Radiance, too! I just received the Sephora Beauty Insider 10% coupon in the mail, so I’m thinking about grabbing it.

Alice Avatar

Haul: Urban Decay Aura afterglow highlighter. I feel like I’m forgetting something since I was on the road last week and didn’t comment…

Weekend plans: about to leave to get tattoo #17, a chickadee and some flowers on my calf. I’m going to be lazy this weekend so it can heal right.

What inspires you: In art: interesting patterns, textures, shapes. In life: compassion, quirkiness, perseverance, sustainability.

Nicole Avatar

My dog always lies out of her bed too! I feel like why did I buy that thing?!
Haul: MJB primer , UD Aura, from Ulta’s 21 days of beauty I got UD sheer Rapture, Anarchy, and Streak. But, I’m not sure I care for Sheer Strek much. Ren glycolic Lactic radiance renewal mask-good stuff! UD one and done- I think they hit jack pot here. CP- stuff from Alchemy and then their SS016 stuff popped up. So , I ordered a bunch of that too! Tom Ford- I got the Afternooner, Pieno Sole,Pipa, les Mepris,& purple Noon. Revolve around me is on its way. I slapped Pieno Sole on my cheeks. I think it’s going to be nice. I’m unsure about Pipa though. I’m thinking I may send it back possibly. I like the formula. But this one is more orange and metallic than I prefer.
Weekend plans: Chloe and I are going to one of my friends houses for her daughter’s birthday tonight I think. We ar still cleaning up the basement mess.
What inspires me: non-quitters, girl bosses, animals and art of all sorts

Katherine T. Avatar

Nicole, is that the MJB Coconut Primer? Is it as hydrating as the KVD one? And I’m hearing good things about the UD One and Done, sounds like you like it, too. Curious what your thoughts were on the coverage and formula. And hope your basement mess gets fixed soon. I feel for you, we had to replace our old sewer pipe a few years ago (it was old and severely cracked due to tree roots), no flooding fortunately, but it did cost us an arm and leg, could’ve bought an entire counter full of Tom Ford stuff for that pipe, but what can you do.

Nicole Avatar

Yes, that is primer I’m talking about. I would say it is just as hydrating. Maybe a little more. It absorbs into your skin much faster whereas the KVD seems to be tacky. It has a touch of dimethicone. But, usually, I don’t do dimethicone primers. It’s somehow in there low enough to keep everything non drying. Both are good . Just different.
Ud one and done is exactly as it says it is on the box. Coverage is not enough to count as foundation. Lol. Hard to describe . It blurs imperfections, doesn’t really cover much. But, literally it looks like your wearing nothing . But, it does. I know that makes no sense. I used very little and just spread some on with my fingers because I was going to be home anyway. So, if anyone came to the door, I wasn’t AS scary. Good for kicking around. Maybe as a primer. I haven’t used more than a few pea sized drops. So, can’t speak for build ability. I don’t powder it except my nose. In the summer, I’ll change that. I love how the color seems to adapt. I have the color light med. and at first thought it was too light. Within a couple of new minutes, it’s like my skin, but better. It is a little dry on me. So, may be hard in winter or if someone has really dry skin. But, I do use my regular skincare under this. Oh, I have Chantecsalle Just Skin tinted moisturizer which I love also. I feel like I like the UD a little better and its way cheaper!
Now, I saw Sephora sale in your haul. Do you have dates? Or are you just prepping ahead? I know it’s soon. I’m so bad with my email. I get so much junk. Im afraid I’ll miss it!
On the basement. Omg . So exhausted. It’s cleaned . I’m still dealing with insurance and sorting through our stuff like photos. Quilts my grandmother made. I’m trying to find somewhere to try to clean those. Such a headache. But, like you said., you gotta roll with it.
LMK if I can help u out with anything else. I haven’t forgotten about that The Balm shadow! Just haven’t gotten to it! ?

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh, sorry to hear about the family treasures 🙁 hope they can be saved. That reminds me to put anything valuable off the garage floor. Thanks for the feedback on the MJB primer and UD perfector, will need to run to Sephora to do last minute swatching/sampling before sale. No worries about testing the makeup, I know you’ve been crazy busy with that horrible basement mess. I have been getting emails from Sephora every day, but I haven’t received the official one yet about the sale. But according to some blogs, the VIB Rouge is April 7-13, and 15% off, promo code ROUGENOTE. VIB is 15% off and goes April 8-13 and code VIBNOTE. Beauty Insiders is 10% off April 9 -12, code is BINOTE. As soon as I get the official email, I will let you know, but yeah, get your wish list ready!

Nicole Avatar

Yeah, I some shelves But, that one box was on the floor for some dumb reason. But , I had the quilts on my laundry room floor to be washed. The insurance adjuster said they would reimburse if I can find a dry cleaner who will clean them. So, I’m going to call around this week. As far as the box of pictures. I have a few things that will need to be discarded. Ans the book is ruined. But, it looks like the photos inside are okay. Fortunately, there probably is a copy to all of them somewhere due to everything being digital these days.
Thank you so much on the Sephora Sale details!

Haul: Sigma Lip Switch Lip Gloss in Otherworldly and Double-Whammy. Ipsy offer: ColourPop Creme Gel pot and pencil liners in Call Me and Over Board.

Weekend plans: Hubby and I caught our kids’ bug, so not much. The worst part is, we’re having the nicest weather yet this year and we can’t take advantage of the sunshine. My older son is completely better, though, and the younger one is much improved. He’s eating and no longer nauseous, and is able to go for short walks. It means a lot to my kids when I pass on everyone’s well wishes, and they thank you all for caring. With their Asperger’s Disorder and mental health issues, they often don’t meet with kindly people. They really appreciate when someone cares about them.

What inspires you?: The written word, art, music, fashion and beauty, colors, science, children, animals, the ocean, my kids and hubby, kindness and love.

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh no!!! Sorry to hear 🙁 hope it doesn’t take you too long to recover. I had a severe case of stomach bug/food poisoning a few years ago, went on for months, was house bound sometimes, was horrible. Hope the older son can help take care of you and hubby, and hoping everyone gets well soon and stays healthy.

Rachel R. Avatar

Ugh, that food poisoning/bug combo sounds awful, Katherine. You must have been miserable. Our older son has been helping us out.

Katherine T. Avatar

Rachel, hope you don’t mind if I give you some advice, your choice to take or not. But after a severe case of stomach bug, you might want to take some probiotic supplements and eat lots of gut-friendly foods. If you google it, you’ll find a slew of them (yogurt with active cultures, sauerkraut, kimchi ,etc). They help rebuild the good bacteria in your guts, which is needed to fight bad bugs and digest food. I had severe diarrhea, and it basically flushed out all the bacteria out (including the good ones), so I had trouble digesting food and fighting off further infections/bugs/bacteria, became a vicious cycle, had to go see the doctor. I didn’t know about probiotics and gut-friendly foods back then, wish I did, but they help me now.

Rachel R. Avatar

Thank you for the great advice! I appreciate it very much. I’ve been eating yogurt, but I didn’t think to try a probiotic supplement. I’ll give it a try. I have IBS as well, so it probably couldn’t hurt.

Lulle Avatar

Haul: Tarte new little palette in Star Power, Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion, a Juicy Shaker from Lancome (they finally made it to the US! But I think they’re not sold out on Lancome’s website, not sure when they’ll be sold at other retailers).
Weekend plans: a homemade salmon poke with friends on Saturday.
What inspires me: art, nature, other people’s creativity.

Lulle Avatar

Do you use it every night when you have an active zit Christine, or only every other night like it says on the label? I was surprised to see that mention because I read lots of reviews and people seem to use it daily when needed.

Pearl Avatar

Haul: Nothing has come in yet but it will be waiting for me at work on Monday! (I get everything shipped to my work now because of &^%*#@ porch pirates).
Weekend plans: Cleaning, laundry, cooking for the week. Maybe head out to a TF counter for swatching, not sure. I might do that in the middle of the week though because I really don’t like weekend crowds.
What inspires you?: Underdogs, doing random and anonymous acts of kindness, quiet time alone (this recharges me rather than inspires, but after this I’m mentally ready to start or finish a project)

Nancy T Avatar

Mellan looks to be totally settled in to his new digs! ?

Haul: So far, just Too Faced Melted Villian. Which I’m still working with to get it to stay on without clumping up on the inner parts of my lips. Going out later, will edit to add goodies!

Weekend plans: Doing my hair ordeal, shopping, meeting on Sunday.

What inspires you: Justice and fairness toward humans and animals being accomplished. God’s wondrous creations in the animal, aquatic, botanical kingdoms, the variations of terrain, weather phenomenon, climate, I could go on forever! Sunsets. Acts of true heartfelt kindness. Hope. Deep faith.

Nancy T Avatar

It looks SO good in me, too, so I desperately want it to work. I think it may be something to di with my mouth chemistry. Because many lipsticks also bunch up, ball up right where my lips meet, Idk? It’s really maddening!

Nancy T Avatar

Edit to Haul: Ordered MAC OtherEarthly MSF! Also placed a Colourpop order; Panda, Marshmallow, TooLips & Cozy Ultimate Satin lipsticks, Weenie & “3” eye shadows. At MAC inside SFS, Blackberry, Haux, Da Bling, Fig 1 and Nylon Pro Pan eye shadows. *Almost* tried of Glamour Era Mineralize lipstick because it swatches SO beautifully on my hand, but I was too tired from being up almost all of last night due to Crohn’s acting up. So I just got the eye shadows.

Joyce Avatar

Every time Free for Haul Friday comes up I think, “It’s Friday already? AGAIN?!” Lol!

Haul: Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeliners in Black and Nude. I’m like looking around thinking, “Is that really all I bought this week?” And it was today! Just before I got home to check Temptalia, lol! I guess I’m just saving for my employee shopping day at Kohl’s. 35% off TheBalm & Lorac. There are other brands, but they don’t interest me lol… Has anyone tried Lorac Exhibitionist lipstick?

Weekend plans: Maybe dinner tonight at this famous burger place right in town that we’ve never been to after 6 years of living here. My husband works this weekend, so not much else 🙂

** Oh, and thanks to everyone who shared about Boston! We LOVED Faneuil marketplace. Fire & Ice is the coolest restaurant ever! (There are a couple in California, too). Wish we had time for the Freedom Trail but honestly, the Boston Public Library was my favorite part!! A massive room full of fancy green lamps and study tables. I about died.

What inspires you?: Just going about life. I’ll notice certain textures and colors in like a candy wrapper and think, “Oooh! That would be a great idea/combination for…”

Joyce Avatar

I knew that wasn’t everything! Lol…

I grabbed the Lorac Riesling Romance palette for my mother-in-law at Ulta. It was the last one!!

For myself, I grabbed an Orly polish in Rage for myself. First time I’ve painted my nails in months. I also bought Essence eyeliner in Urban Jungle. It’s SUCH a pretty color. I think you would really like it, Christine. But I found that even though I applied it to my upper lash line, it smudged on my lower lash line. I mean, I topped it with TheBalm’s Jealous Jordana, so that may be the culprit, but who knows!

And if there’s anything else, oh well. Obviously it’s not that exciting lol!

Joyce Avatar

OH… like deeper-in-life inspirations.

Memoirs, definitely. I really like One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp and Wild in the Hollow by Amber C. Haines.

One of my recent favorites is Girls Like Us by Rachel Lloyd. Incredibly brave and powerful story about being a commercially sexually exploited youth and how overcoming it has empowered her to help other girls in the same situation. Check out her organization: gems-girls.org

Susan Dowman Nevling Avatar

We had a similar delay with my mother when she died. She was88 and no surviving friends, she was shy. Has a sister and cousins in Columbus so we waited until they could come. Graveside memorial service. Very spiritual and lovely. My hubs found a bagpipes who played Amazing Grass at the end. It was exactly what my mother wanted. I hope you heal from your loss and remember the good stuff.

Katherine T. Avatar

Sorry to hear about your loss. Hope you share fond memories of her this weekend with friends and family, and that she lives forever in your heart

Weeken plans. None. I’m home on disability every day, so I’m not ordering something online then I go during the weekdays when it’s not so crowded.

I’m inspired by the makeup posts on Instagram. I love doing cut crease and different things I see on there l

Haul: Bumble and bumble Repair Blow Dry “stuff” (they say it’s a serum; it’s more like a thin cream); Clarins Silver Plum and Silver Ivory Ombre Iridescente eyeshadows; Clarins Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream; Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream (and because it was their “time to choose”, I got another full size Eye Revive Beauty Flash as well as travel sizes of day and night moisturizer, body lotion, toner and cleanser); sample of Annick Goutal Eau d’Hadrian, Nuit Etoilee and one other (they’ve just started to carry this line at a department store near me and I was SO excited and the SA just kept offering me samples!). I know I bought some stuff at Shopper’s Drug Mart on Saturday but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was (pretty bad, no?)

Weekend plans: older son leaves on Sunday and we won’t see him for quite some time as he’s leading 2 field exercises and then being deployed so we’re trying to get the family together on Saturday somehow but younger son is SO busy with school and now they’re calling for snow (younger son is out of town at uni and would drive in, which will worry me). So, basically, trying to co-ordinate getting my kids together so they can visit with their brother.

What inspires me: wanting the best for my family, travel, the feedback I get on how I do my job and how it makes students feel

Mariella Avatar

Oh, I remember now…I wanted to get that L’Oreal Green Promenade eyeshadow that I saw here. I went to 2 stores and it just doesn’t seem to be sold here in Canada, although it is shown on the Canadian L’Oreal website. I was so ticked…it wasn’t sold out; there was no spot for it in the display. Boo!

Claire L Avatar

Haul: I was good last week and the week before, only have 2 parcels to pick up from the PO depot – Clarins Iridescent eye creams in Silver Plum and Silver Green, and Guerlain Meteorites in Clair (got 25% off that with a voucher code!). I made a couple of orders this week though as my money came in, a MAC order and a QVC UK Tarte order ?.

Plans for weekend: Food shopping, going to a shopping centre as my future MIL was telling me there’s a dinosaur exhibition on there and my our little girl might like to see it lol. I’m due my vitamin b12 shot in 3 weeks and I sorely need it now after a busy 4 months! I’m hoping to get an appointment next week and beg to get it done sooner. I can feel myself slowing down and struggling to stay on top of things.

What inspires me: Art, creativity, books, good writing, my cat, my little girl, nature. Lots of things!

Mariella Avatar

Claire, I also got Silver Plum but as I have a very similar green from Lise Watier and one from MAC, I passed on that one (may still go back and get it, though – it is so beautiful) and got Silver Ivory instead. Isn’t Silver Plum lovely????

Erin Avatar

Haul: I got a hair mask today from Whole Foods by Giovanni.
Weekend: I think I’m going to take a walk down by the ocean with my dog since it will be nice. My husband was off again for military service with 12 hours notice so I’m alone again essentially until he gets deployed.
Inspiration: Mostly nature, my pets, and innovation in sciences. Art of any sort. I’m lucky that I can find the beauty and inspiration in little things otherwise I’d certainly lose my mind!

Well, I made a few purchases this week after being paid. I ordered some stuff from Escentual as they had 25% off everything! I love that site, they always have great deals, so heads up for anyone in the UK- check it out! I don’t think they ship internationally. Anyway, I ordered:

GIVENCHY Le Prisme Blush Powder Blush in Lune Rosée

DHC Make Off Sheets

GIVENCHY Rouge Interdit Vinyl in Rose Mutin

NIOD Photography Fluid Colourless Opacity 12% 30ml (really looking forward to trying this, I’ll keep you posted)

DHC Olive Virgin Oil Cotton Swabs (very handy)

Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in PK430 – Dollface (I have Disco and it’s one of my favourite liquid lipstick formulae)

Real Techniques Shading Brush

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in 01 – Honey (you can never have too many lip balms/treatments!)

GUERLAIN KISSKISS Shaping Cream Lip Colour in Baby Rose (wanted this for a while)

Then from Allbeauty I ordered a blush that I’d been wanting for a while, Shiseido
Luminizing Face Color in RD103 – Petal. ?

Finally, I caved in and bought a liquid highlighter that I’d been wanting for ages, Rouge Bunny Rouge Seas of Illumination in Sea of Clouds. I have Sea of Tranquillity and love it! ❤

Kind of embarrassing but there you go. I’ve been organising my collection, giving things away etc. and trying to fill any gaps. Not that I should have any gaps but there you go. It doesn’t look like I’ll ever stop buying makeup, no matter how much I have! ?

I like the interaction too. Great range of issues, ages, complexions, skin issues and more experience collectively than another blog I’ve read.
I shopped very little this week- severe low back arthritis flare up; retired RN. Did buy a Two step L’Oreal lip paint with a gloss to apply when dry. I received one in my sample box and “had to let my three yr old great granddaughter try it”. Of course lasted at least six hours on her through meals and naps. Then she had to go home. Anyway, since lipstick never lasts on me, I had to get some. Two hours max. I order some AM face cream with SPF and night cream without. Ordered late in the week so expect it Tuesday
