Estee Lauder Red Ego (250) Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick
Estee Lauder Red Ego (250) Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick

Estee Lauder Red Ego (250) Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deepened, dark red with cool undertones and a luminous finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage with a glossy finish. The formula was hydrating and long-wearing, staying true for over six hours while leaving a lingering stain behind. I didn’t have any feathering or bleeding while I wore this. MAC Salon Rouge (LE, $16.00) is slightly darker, more matte. MAC Dangerously Chic (P, $23.00) is more muted. MAC Frank-n-furter (LE, $16.00) is more matte. NARS Charlotte (P, $32.00) is darker. MAC Hearts Aflame (LE, $16.00) is more matte, warmer. Urban Decay Mrs. Mia Wallace (LE, $22.00) is similar. Urban Decay Gash (LE, $22.00) is cooler-toned. Chanel La Desiree (327) (LE, $34.00) is more matte. MAC Just a Bite (LE, $16.00) is more matte, darker. MAC Runaway Red (LE, $16.00) is more matte, darker. MAC Deeply Adored (LE, $16.00) is more matte, darker. Dior Diorling (LE, $36.00) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Estee Lauder Carnal (370) Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, orange-red with a luminous finish and warm undertones. It was intensely pigmented and applied evenly and smoothly. The color lasted for over six hours, and it left behind a reddish stain. The formula was creamy, hydrating, and comfortable to wear without feathering around the edges. Tom Ford Beauty Flame (06) (P, $50.00) is lighter, more matte. NARS Carmen (P, $32.00) is similar. NARS Marlene (P, $32.00) is warmer, darker, more muted. NARS Annabella (P, $32.00) is similar. Givenchy Carmin Escarpin (306) (P, $36.00) is similar. NARS Future Red (LE, $26.00) is redder. Urban Decay Bang (P, $22.00) is lighter. Maybelline Infra-red (LE, $7.49) is redder. MAC Sail La Vie (LE, $16.00) is more muted. MAC Lady Danger (P, $16.00) is more matte, lighter. Guerlain Gilda (P, $51.00) is more shimmery. Buxom Rogue (P, $21.00) is a touch lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Estee Lauder Insolent Plum (450) Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a cool-toned berry with blue undertones and a luminous sheen. It had fairly opaque coverage, but there was a noticeable translucency. The consistency on this one was more slippery than other shades, which made it apply less evenly in comparison to most of what I’ve tried in the range. It lasted for six hours, but I did experience slight feathering during the last hour. Bite Beauty Aubergine (P, $24.00) MAC Primrose (LE, $16.00) Inglot #293 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) YSL Forbidden Burgundy (12) (P, $34.00) Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (P, $30.00) Urban Decay Venom (P, $22.00) MAC Rebel (P, $16.00) See comparison swatches / view dupes.

They all look so pretty on you Christine! I have a soft spot for all things that you grade “A” and “A+” and “Temptalia Recommended”
I still remember my first purchase was Chanel Dragon because of your rave reviews!
My bank account is unhappy…. but I sure am when I open my makeup kit to all the lovely items you suggest!

Does this lipstick have any fragrance?

Oooo insolent plum looks absolutely gorgeous!!! Thank you lord that these are permanent so I can’t wait a bit since I already did some damage to my wallet with the Sephora VIB sale.

On another note, I am so glad that I didn’t see your posts before I placed my order with Sephora because I would have spent a lot more than I did…and I splurged this year b/c I usually don’t take advantage of the VIB sale & this year there was a ton of stuff I was dying to get 🙂

These are really excellent! So far I got only one shade – 120 Desirable and I got it because it was on sale. Their regular price in Croatia is $60! That’s just dreadful! Hopefully I’ll be able to order them from the US. 🙂
I think Insolent Plum is next on my list. 🙂

Wow, these look very pretty on you ! I’m always amazed by how you can pull off so many different colors, whether it’s for the eyes, lips, or cheeks

Veronica Avatar

Gorgeous. That is not a plum to me, though – that is 100% fuschia in my book. Or at least it would beon my face. It’s a pretty shade, though! Those reds are also fantastic. There are some faces that really work a red lip, and yours is definitely one of them, Christine. 🙂

I have Insolent Plum, and I love it. It’s so comfortable, and the colour is gorgeous. It seems a bit darker on me, but that’s probably due to different lighting.
This lipstick range is fantastic, it’s just a pity they are, as all EL, quite expensive here. Unless Google lies to me they are $40-42 here.

Helene Avatar

I’ve not bought a lipstick from either Chanel or Dior in a long time. I will make a quest to compare the cost of high end makeup.
I just remembered how much the EL lipstick was as I was surprised it was so expensive.

I do like these lipsticks but I find that they emphasize the lines on my lips a bit. However, I have six of these so it doesn’t bother me enough to stop me buying them, and if I make sure my lips are prepped correctly they look lovely. My favourite is Defiant Coral. It’s just the perfect coral. It’s gorgeous. 🙂

These are so lovely…but so cool toned sometimes I can’t wear them. But I just love the formula and when it works…which is often enough…it’s amazing.
These look lovely on you!

Toni Avatar

I’d probably be naturally drawn to Isolent Plum most often, although I have Sugar Plum Fairy (the Wet N Wild dupe for MAC’s Rebel). So is probably challenge myself to wear Red Ego instead. I like the warm/brown tone to it.

Dani Avatar

wow Red ego!!! I ended up getting Ms. Mia Wallace, and just love that blood red color. This is the closest I’ve seen to it yet. so glad to have a deep red like this out! I agree, you pull every color off. something will look amazing on you, I’ll go buy it and think, “what happened? ” lol.

Whitney Avatar

Oh, this just hurts my feelings. I want every one of these lipsticks but I have to wait still. At least they’re permanent. Carnal is trying to seduce me into breaking my promise. 🙂

Also…I don’t know why but Red Ego is what I thought MAC’s True Love’s Kiss would look like. Weird…

Great reviews, Christine.

Victoria Avatar

Insolent Plum and Red Ego please! By the way, your eye makeup is gorgeous too, Christine! Could you share what products you used to achieve this look?
