Estee Lauder Grey Haze Pure Color Envy Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches
Grey Haze
Estee Lauder Grey Haze Pure Color Envy Luxe Eyeshadow Quad (Refill) ($44.00 for 0.21 oz.) includes one very sparkly shade (lots of fallout, quite dry), two shimmers (that were disappointing to apply), and a darker matte hue (the best of a bad bunch). It’s probably clear at this point that these quads, including this color story, were a miss.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented" with "stay-true color" that won't smudge, crease, or settle into fine lines and doesn't "flake or dust onto face." The quality of the more matte shades was typically higher than the shimmer shades, but all of the finishes seeme to be particularly short-wearing and made it seem like my lids "ate" the eyeshadows quite quickly.
Some of the shimmers were drier and thinner, which resulted in uneven application and some fallout, particularly with the more sparkly shades. The matte eyeshadows were more pigmented and smoother on average but still were on the thinner side with slight to moderate powderiness, which resulted in light fallout and/or the color sheering out too readily on bare skin.

Well, this sure is a strange fish, as it swatches really nicely, yet fails to deliver when applied to the lids!
Since I do have enough dupes for this quad, I’m not feeling too letdown. Just hope that more consumers who are eyeing this quad (and it would seem, any of EL’s quads) would look up reviews on this before shelling out $’s on it!
Felt the same way when I saw the swatches. Since I have the ND Glam and quite a few cool singles, like you, I can dupe. This would never even have been a selection for me, since I don’t care much for quads (and particularly at such prices).
This could be such a perfect cool toned every day palette…IF it weren’t so BAD! I hate wasting money even on drugstore products but for a luxury brand and at this price, it’s just inexcusable!
Estee Lauder’s eyeshadows are duds – the only good one was the original Victoria Beckham X EL palette from a few years ago – that was fabulous. But since then they have all been epic fails.
Even CP, SG, Terra Moons etc do a lot better at a fraction of the cost.
Actually, the Estee Edit line (very short lived) had a fantastic pair of palettes sold together called Gritty and Glow. Thinking about them has sort of reminded me that I should pull them out to use them, though they are a bit more autumn/winter shades. The shadows rivalled the Victoria Beckham X Estee Lauder shadows in colour and quality but were far less in the stratosphere price-wise and were actually not difficult to get (the Beckham ones were either sold out or totally unavailable when I went to look for them).
The Estée Edit never became available in stores here. I looked for it every time I went to an EL counter.
Here (in Canada) it was only at Sephora and I’m so glad I grabbed it when I could. That whole line was not around for very long. I can’t understand launching a whole line like that and then shutting it down within a year or so.
We didn’t have Sephora here back then.
I remember asking at the counters about the Estée Edit, and the sales person hadn’t even heard about it,
Well, that’s too bad…this color combination is gorgeous!
Shame on EL this is the best they’ve come up with! I have these shades by Covergirl. I think it’s Shimmering Sands at $4.50.
OMG these swatched beautifully!! This palette had so much potential to be a perfect cool toned go to palette. Hopefully they’ll do better.
Did EL steal UD’s playbook? Oh, guess not. These are worse. I love the story as well, but at least have a dupe for my favorite shade. This is the quintessential example of not relying on swatches.
Ouch!
I really like the colour story, I can probably dupe most of it, but it would have been handy to have the quad. Odd I think that EL can’t make decent eyeshadows anymore. I think I’ve had a few good ones years and years ago. And the Victoria Beckham palette is really nice to use.
