It’s a baked, powder formula that is supposed to give “natural luminescence” that “blends easily” and “applies smoothly.” For those who like their highlighters warmer and a bit darker (with more color), this is an excellent option that won’t break the bank. The consistency was smooth, lightly dusty (as much as is typical with baked products), and blendable on the skin. It didn’t look dry, dusty, or powdery applied, and I felt like it “melted” within five minutes of application which gave it an even smoother finish and glow. It is a medium to heavy highlighter, though a fan brush can give it a more diffused, lightly shiny finish, but when I applied it with typical highlighter brushes, it was noticeable and yielded a metallic sheen–but it did not emphasize my pores or my skin’s natural texture. It lasted well for seven and a half hours before it started to fade.

Looks pretty on you. It looks sutble.
Thanks, Jeanine!
I just got this a couple weeks ago and really love it! It’s such a nice affordable option and really nice quality.
Woohoo! Glad you like it! 😀
I like it!!! You don’t look like a disco ball! lol Some highlighters are just too much; I like the subtle effect of this highlighter.
Thanks, Robin!
peach is always so pretty on you. This one, no exception. Lovely glow
Thank you, Wendy!
Thank You So Much for reviewing this product Christine! Essence is often overlooked by bloggers and vloggers and I have enjoyed so many categories of their products for years. It used to be that you could only get them at Ulta but now even Target is carrying them. I picked this up today after seeing it in KathleenLights new video and after seeing your review score I’m extra glad I did. This color is very flattering on you!
So glad you’re loving yours, Deb!
The swatch looks kind of “meh” but it sure delivers the shimmer on your cheeks and price is great! Christine, is this their “Pure Nude” formula? Does it come in any other colors?
Oh duh, I see “Pure Nude” in the title! Must be Monday morning….
Just one!
Quite nice and the price is right. For a minus versus straight A, it has the edge on Cle. The only thing that irks me about Cosnova… Essence and Catrice, stateside, is that they export so few products, compared to their bazillion in Europe. These are both very solid d/s lines, and I wish we’d see more of their offerings. Ulta is trying, but compared to the German site, it’s very bare bones. If anyone has any other sourcing tips for US, dk about Canada, it would be highly appreciated.
Certainly like, a 1/10 cheaper than the Cle de Peau.
Wow, that’s pretty impressive for a drugstore highlighter!
It’s quite nice!
Essence ain’t playing! Then again, that is the brand whose black gel liner in a pot is my HG liner for my wings, so I ought not be surprised. I also have a GORGEOUS light, super shiny taupe eyeshadow from Essence that I need to use again! Taking it out of the “bin of forgottens” as I speak. ?
I hope they’ll do more colors!
That would almost be a highlighting blush for me.
I bet it would be!
Very pretty. Love those Caribbean eyes too.
Thanks, Susan!
I am loving this budget brand’s offerings so far! this highlighter looks like a dupe for the Laura Mercier baked highlighter too!
Happy to hear it!
Wow, what a nice product. And it seems to rate as high as or even higher than products costing up to TEN TIMES as much! Unbelievable. Gonna pick up one of these, even though it is a bit peachier than I like in my highlighters – for under 5 bucks, I can live with that!
I quite like it! 🙂 With foundation and/or primer, wear shouldn’t be an issue (which is the bigger downside of the product on its own).
Very subtle! I love the swatches.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for reviewing this; I’ve had this highlighter for quite some time now and it is what I reach out for the most when I want something safe. The finish is like no other highlighters I own and I have a lot of highlighters that are in the same color family. It is like applying light on your face and it works around your skin instead of standing out and having a finish of its own.
What brush do you like to use with it, Kim?
Essence makes some really nice products at great prices (some duds too, but at least they don’t break the bank!)
What are some of your faves, Tiffany?
I really love their lip liners. They’re less than $2 and are perfect for adding to an Ulta order when you’re almost eligible for free shipping! Their black gel liner is great too. This highlighter is on my list to try!
This looks pretty on you, Christine! I also really love your eye look here.
Thank you! 🙂
It’s very pretty! (And I giggled at seeing “Bubble Butt Lipglass” in the description of your face)
🙂
Oh, I’ll have to remember this one, like the look and sound of it.
It’s nice!
I’ve heard so many good things about this one but we don’t have it in Canada. 🙁
Awwww!
Essence has always made some of my favourite drugstore highlighters in the past, but they were all LE! I’m crossing my finger they make a lighter and deeper shade in the future as well, that is permanent. 😉
Shoppers Drug Mart carries it! If you go on the Essence website, you can enter your city and it lists all retailers 🙂
How does this compare to the LM Baked highlighter in 01?
This is much darker. You can compare any two shades yourself using our Compare Any Two tool! It is located in the sidebar (or under the post, if you’re on a smaller screen) as well as in the navigation on every page.
How’s this in comparison to Wet and Wilds reserve your cabana? Not sure which to try first.
This is more shimmery and a bit more tinted! 🙂
