Dose of Colors Greens & Grays Block Party Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Olive You
Dose of Colors Olive You Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark olive green with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. The pigmentation was fantastic, while the texture was smooth, dense and lightly creamy but not stiff to work with, which made it easy to use it with fingertips or with a brush (and I only had to pack it on or build up with a second layer). It applied well and stayed in place for eight and a half hours without fallout.

Formula Overview
$20.00/0.08 oz. - $250.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have an "ultra-dazzling finish" with "multi-dimensional reflects." It's designed to be applied "using your finger for maximum intensity" and "softer coverage" can be achieved by using a brush. Some shades are softer and more cream-like than others, as there were a few that were drier and stiffer, which made them harder to apply with anything other than a fingertip. The product is definitely most pigmented and typically opaque when applied with fingertips, and I think if that's not something you're keen on, I'd skip the formula and look for a more traditional powder product in a similar hue or try patting on something more glittery over an existing shade you own.
There was slight to moderate fallout, depending on the shade, during application, and this was intensified whenever I used a brush. I didn't experience tons of fallout during wear, though. They tended to wear around eight hours before fading or creasing. They have a slightly thicker consistency that made them harder to diffuse and blend into other textures (like Dose of Colors' matte eyeshadows). I can see these working well for someone who likes to have a spotlight of glitter and shimmer on the center of the lid or who does more cut creases. Overall, some of them are lovely and easy enough to work with, but there were definitely some misses that take patience and effort/additional bases or tools.
There did seem to be similarity to the formula Dose of Colors used in the Desi x Katy Eyeshadow Quad, though it seemed like a lot of the Block Party shades also had dimethicone in them (about mid-way through the ingredient list).

Jackpot
Dose of Colors Jackpot Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium-dark, olive green with warm undertones and a sparkling finish. It had more warmth and larger (and more!) sparkle compared to Olive You, but they did seem a little redundant. The texture was slightly denser and drier to the touch, but it had good grip on my lids when I pressed it on with fingertips. When I tried a brush, it had medium, slightly buildable coverage but needed to be dampened for maximum coverage. The eyeshadow wore well for eight and a half hours but had light fallout over time (not bad at all, given that I didn’t use an adhesive and for how sparkly it was, but there was some stray sparkles at the end of the day!).

Teal Me More
Dose of Colors Teal Me More Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a bright, medium blue with subtle, cool undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. This was one of the more impactful shades in the range and one of the few that I think would be “worth” splurging on at the price point given that it spoke to how good the formula could be. It had rich color payoff that applied well with fingertips as well as brushes. The eyeshadow had a smooth, lightly creamy texture that adhered evenly to bare skin and had almost no fallout during application as well as during wear. It lasted for eight and a half hours on me.

I Need Space
Dose of Colors I Need Space Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium-dark gray with neutral-to-warm undertones and lots of silver sparkle. It had a drier, stiffer texture that was hard to work with using brushes, and I’d consider this only usable with fingertips. The payoff was semi-opaque and buildable when pressed on with fingertips. There was fallout when I tried to diffuse the edges with a brush, though. On me, it stayed on well for seven hours but had a moderate amount of fallout over time.

X-Ray
Dose of Colors X-Ray Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a deep black with neutral-to-cool undertones and flecks of silver sparkle over a satin finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and easily onto my lid with great adhesion and minimal fallout when I blended out the edges. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy but not too dense or stiff in the pan. It wore well for eight and a half hours and I didn’t notice any fallout.

Ooh, Olive You is so pretty!!! It’s different from the greens I already own, and such a great rating! But it’s too expensive for me to justify the purchase after the crazy makeup buying spree I’ve been on for the past month.
Try the bareMinerals Scenic Route duo that has Spectacular in it – it is one of the best olive shades around and a perfect dupe for those two olive shades – at a fraction of the cost.
I know what you mean – I’ve got Spectacular too and I was surprised by how many of these shades were duped by it and also by UD Vortex (which I don’t own). The only problem, at least here in Canada, is that Sephora has got rid of almost all the Bare Minerals “Ready” shadows and that’s really the only place to buy them. They were such great shadows and it’s a shame to see them disappear.
Thanks, Genevieve..Unfortunately, it’s no longer sold. But it did look super pretty!
I own MAC Sumptuous Olive and KVD Immaculate, so I think I’m covered for greens. At least for awhile…
These are so deep, saturated, and moody. Somehow, since our makeup minds have ADD and we flit on to the next thing so easily, I think they would have made a better fall launch, even though they are year round, perm products. Summer? Maybe in a cellar jazz club. Great for the intense set.
The way Teal Me More’s sparkle shifts colors in person is super beautiful, but for $20 I would rather get six Fyrrinae mini Arcane Magics that are also sparkly and shifty! (Maybe Glitterboi would be closest?)
Beautiful eye makeup Christine! ??
Two of the five that I purchased are reviewed here and got A scores so I am happy about that. I got Olive You and Teal Me More. I have only used Olive You and found it to apply well, no fallout and lasted all day but was definitely darker in application than I had anticipated. I haven’t used Teal Me More yet as I haven’t been wearing any makeup this week. I am going to try and force myself to put some on tomorrow in hopes that it will cheer me up.
Another sensational range of shades, although the two olive shades are a bit redundant as they are so similar to each other. The teal shade is one of the best I have ever seen and is worth the splurge.
Beautiful, beautiful eye looks Christine.
Can you please compare Jack Pot to the green in the Dose of Color’s DesixKaty collab? I think the formula looks very similar too! Any thoughts!
You can compare any two shades using “Compare Any Two,” which is found on this page and just about every page of Temptalia as well as on the Swatch Gallery! 🙂
I also mentioned the similarity to that formula in the Desi x Katy palette in “Formula Overview.”
3 out of 5 ain’t bad for this batch! Loving that magnificent Teal Me More, plus, Olive You!
I swatched these at Ulta and they did not look at all like these swatches. The teal and both olives had no color payoff. I am very confused.
Christine, a few days ago, I was a smoky olive look you posted using mainly Dose of Colours shadows and I was beside myself with frustration over their unavailability in store where I am but now, seeing your ratings/how poorly some of them perform, and also seeing how many dupes I already have for most of the shades, I’m not feeling so bad at all.
I love your eye looks here! Olive You and Jackpot are gorgeous.
Oh thank goodness! Teal Me More is the one that caught my eye from the beginning and it got a good review!
Olive You reminds me of an old MAC eyeshadow that I used to be obsessed with that has been discontinued for many years. It was called ‘Fiction’. I wonder how similar they are shade wise, beautiful color!
