Dose of Colors Desi x Katy A Mauve Story & My Main Velvet Liquid Matte Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
A Mauve Story
Dose of Colors A Mauve Story Desi x Katy Velvet Liquid Matte Lipstick ($18.00 for oz.) is a medium, dusty pink with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had rich pigmentation in a single layer, which applied evenly and spread easily across my lips. The consistency was lightweight, thin, and fluid with an oilier feel (felt more slippery than if it was creamy), but then it dried down to a satin to semi-matte finish that no longer felt creamy/oily and did not slide or move around. It wasn’t transfer-proof and would come off blotted on a napkin but was more resistant to transferring on cups and glasses. The color did separate at my deeper lip lines slightly, though it wasn’t enough to be noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It lasted well for five hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview
$18.00 -
The formula had good pigmentation with a thinner, more oily consistency that feels slippery initially but dries down significantly within 30 to 45 seconds. It "clings" to the point where it lost all the slip and oiliness of the initial application but not to the point where it felt uncomfortable. Both shades separated a bit along the deeper lip lines of my bottom lip, but from a normal viewing distance (e.g. not in a close-up photo), it wasn't visible to my eyes. They wore between five and six hours and were non-drying. The formula had a sweet, vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

My Main
Dose of Colors My Main Desi x Katy Velvet Liquid Matte Lipstick ($18.00 for oz.) is a light-medium, peachy brown with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had a thin, oily texture that applied evenly and fluidly across my lips for even, opaque coverage in a single layer. It dried down after about 30 seconds and no longer seemed oily/creamy, but the dry down doesn’t make it transfer-proof but was more resistant to transferring on cups and glasses. It separated a bit at my deeper lip lines, though it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It wore well for five and a half hours and was non-drying.

Pretty shades, but they look a little to dry for me.
The packaging makes them look like concealer. It would be nicer if the tube matched the shade inside. I think it looks tacky.
“Too” dry. I know how to spell better than I know how to type. Lol
My Main is something that I could see as being a nice autumnal nudey-brown lip color. Especially for work, school or casual day wear. I like it a lot!
Mauve Story would never work on me, sadly. Very beautiful shade, though!
A Mauve Story???? How is that mauve by anyone’s definition? It looks to me like another “don’t I look dead?” shade.
It’s fine if it’s not for you, but I don’t think it’s constructive to classify shades as dead, corpse-like, or whatever variation to make it “other.” Again, Temptalia is a community where we can all like what we like WITHOUT having to justify it or feel less-than for those preferences. This is pretty close to my natural lip color, and I can assure you I’m alive! 🙂
Sorry if I offended you or others, Christine, but that is how nude shades look on me and I know others here have said similar in past. Nevertheless, I still don’t see how this is “mauve”.
I totally understand if you don’t like the shade on you! I just think we need to be careful to foster a community that accepts everyone’s preferences, and I continue to try to work harder and be better with that but sometimes comments do slip through my radar.
I think these shades can end up looking very dry on the lips and they look a little too nude for me.
I’ve seen a lot of people talk about these. Most of them said something along the lines of “this is a cool toned mauve” and I thought I was blind or fooled by my screen but uhmmm that’s neither a mauve nor cool toned. I know colors are very subjective but sometimes this still pisses me off. It’s a beautiful color, would look great on me, but the description as mauve is just wrong!!
