Dose of Colors Bronzes & Golds Block Party Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Sizzle
Dose of Colors Sizzle Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark red with subtle, warm undertones and flecks of pink and silver glitter. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer when applied using a fingertip and mostly opaque coverage when pressed on with a brush (I recommend something flatter and smaller–think packing and pressing rather than dusting or sweeping!). The consistency was denser, a little firm but not stiff, smooth, and blendable on the lid. There was slight fallout when I diffused the edges on my lid when I worked with a brush, but I didn’t have much additional fallout through the eight hours it wore for.

Formula Overview
$20.00/0.08 oz. - $250.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have an "ultra-dazzling finish" with "multi-dimensional reflects." It's designed to be applied "using your finger for maximum intensity" and "softer coverage" can be achieved by using a brush. Some shades are softer and more cream-like than others, as there were a few that were drier and stiffer, which made them harder to apply with anything other than a fingertip. The product is definitely most pigmented and typically opaque when applied with fingertips, and I think if that's not something you're keen on, I'd skip the formula and look for a more traditional powder product in a similar hue or try patting on something more glittery over an existing shade you own.
There was slight to moderate fallout, depending on the shade, during application, and this was intensified whenever I used a brush. I didn't experience tons of fallout during wear, though. They tended to wear around eight hours before fading or creasing. They have a slightly thicker consistency that made them harder to diffuse and blend into other textures (like Dose of Colors' matte eyeshadows). I can see these working well for someone who likes to have a spotlight of glitter and shimmer on the center of the lid or who does more cut creases. Overall, some of them are lovely and easy enough to work with, but there were definitely some misses that take patience and effort/additional bases or tools.
There did seem to be similarity to the formula Dose of Colors used in the Desi x Katy Eyeshadow Quad, though it seemed like a lot of the Block Party shades also had dimethicone in them (about mid-way through the ingredient list).

Encore
Dose of Colors Encore Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark brown with warm, copper undertones and flecks of gold sparkle over a more satin finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, dense, and almost cream-like texture that applied fairly well with brushes, but if you wanted the most pigmentation and least chance of fallout, then fingertips were the way to go. This shade stayed on well for eight hours and did not seem to have fallout during wear.

Shell We Dance
Dose of Colors Shell We Dance Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark peach with a hint of pink and a metallic sheen. It had some sparkle but had a strong, metallic base, too, so that it had a lot of dimension and shine when applied. It worked well applied to the center of the lid or inner corner to brighten. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and easy to work with and had minimal fallout when I used it on my lids (even with brushes). It had opaque coverage when applied with a fingertip and mostly opaque coverage when pressed on with a brush. It lasted for eight hours on me with minimal fallout.

Lock and Key
Dose of Colors Lock and Key Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a deep, chocolatly brown with warm, yellow undertones and flecks of gold and bronze sparkle. The pigmentation was opaque in one layer when applied with fingertips as described. I still was able to achieve opaque coverage when I used a brush and used two layers or picked up extra product in one go. I didn’t feel like I had to use fingertips to use it as intended, though. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and blendable on my lid with minimal fallout during application. The eyeshadow stayed on nicely for eight hours with slight fallout over time.

Heart of Gold
Dose of Colors Heart of Gold Block Party Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a deep, medium-dark gold with warm, brown undertones and flecks of gold sparkle. The eyeshadow had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, when applied with fingertips, and semi-opaque, buildable coverage when I used a brush (alternatively, I tried it with dampened brushes and that didn’t seem to be problematic and improved adhesion/intensity in a single layer). The texture was slightly dry to the touch with a denser, chunkier feel in the pan, so there was some fallout when initially applied. I was surprised that it only had minimal fallout over the eight hours it lasted for.

While I feel I can find close dupes within last summer’s Jouer Skinny Dip palette for the very golden bronze shades, possibly close enough dupes for Shell We Dance in MAC Sweet Heat and CP Comeback Kid? But for Sizzle, nothing comes to mind! So, at some point this summer, I’m getting Sizzle. ?
i love that jouer palette! need to pull it out from under the stack of palettes i’m testing!
Stunningly beautiful shades in the most popular colours. I guess the major issue with these is the application and fallout, but by using your suggestions for each shade, that could be minimal. I would say that these are more ‘night time’ eyeshadows, so their effect would be glamourous on the eye.
Thank you for the review Christine.
As I have mentioned before I picked 5 of these up before my no buy started. I have only used Olive You so far and found the color to be really pretty, deeper when applied than it appeared in the pan. I hadn’t seen any reviews yet so I applied with my finger based on how the shadow felt when I swatched it. It felt like a shade that would need finessing and pressed firmly against the lid. I then blended into the crease and had a fair amount of fall out. I also had fall out through the day. I used the Milani e/s primer and used a matte shade to blend it out. I will try again with a different primer, something a little tackier to really grip the shadow. I do like the shade and after things have settled down here I will try the other shades. I really think Sizzle is a beautiful shade and can’t remember why I didn’t order it?? Depending on my experience with the remaining shades I have I may have to pick Sizzle up at a later date.
Sizzle is to die for. Very vampy in the best way too.
I’m loving Sizzle, Lock and Key, and Encore. They look really pretty and I’m glad they did well. I might pick up one after checking my collection for any good dupes.
what a beautiful eye look christine!
Thank you!
I’m just not wowed by these shadows. They’re beautiful, but so far I have dupes for everything. Nothing in this collection is particularly innovative. Plus, the price point is very high. I get that you’re getting a good amount of product, but I really think they should have decreased the amount of product so they could have decreased the price point. I think that would have made it a lot more tolerable price wise for most people.
