Dior Sunset (660) Rouge Dior Couture Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “fiery red.” It’s a medium, pink-coral with strong, warm red undertones and a soft, golden shimmer, plus a glossy, luminous finish. Estee Lauder Defiant Coral (P, $30.00) is a smidgen lighter. Too Faced Bon Bon (P, $21.00) is lighter, pinker. Givenchy Rose Dentelle (203) (P, $36.00) is darker, less shimmery. Chanel Pygmalion (LE, $34.00) is sheerer. MAC Lady at Play (P, $22.00) is warmer, less glossy. MAC Hibiscus (LE, $16.00) is a touch darker. Guerlain Rouge Sensuel (LE, $49.50) is darker, redder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The look and feel of this shade is really where the luxury is; the consistency is incredibly lightweight, as it is creamy and glides on easily. It applies smoothly, evenly, and better yet, lips look soft, juicy, and lustrous. When a lipstick makes your lips look like they’re in better health–smoother, plumper, softer–you know the formula is a winner. Sunset had mostly opaque color coverage with a hint of translucency that kept it from reading too heavy. It wore well for four and a half hours, and it did leave behind a stain. The formula was nicely hydrating both during and after the color wore away, and I didn’t detect any scent or taste.

And with Saks having free shipping, I just had to take the plunge… At this rate I’m becoming a coral queen lol
I can’t wait to see how good the formula is as I’ve never used this brand.

I was so relieved (though I’m supposed to stop shopping for beauty items until November lol).
I like Saks but I preferred Nordstrom because of the free shipping and little free samples. I just love perfume 🙂

I wore it today.
This formula is amazing and the colour is so lovely! So lightweight and lush.
Are all the Rouge Diors like this? Not sure about the Rouge Dior/Rouge Dior Couture.

beka Avatar

do you like the new formula of the rouge dior lipsticks better than the old one? i like those, so i may have to check this out. the color is beautiful.

stacey Avatar

This is not my colour but Rouge Dior is my brand for lipsticks.
Though you can get two Mac lipsticks for a price of this. And I love the red colours of Dolce and Gabbana. Nothing feels like a Rouge Dior lipstick. There is a faint rose scent. The lipstick feels like it is coming from past French chic. There is a gleam to the lipstick once applied and it makes my lips look luscious and young with a nice pout….without a need for botox. The lips do not look glossy. It is so so so creamy.

I wouldn’t really say that there any cooler-toned corals that come to mind (I’m not sure there are any, actually, but I might just not have come across any), as even pink-corals are still warm, but here are some pink-corals: http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery?sg=160112,159729,150630,150249,149445,147764,147301,122495,118542,118283,112026,112018&lips=1

It’s beautiful. Do you know if this is the North America version of souveraine (757)? That came out with the Trianon collection, but only in Europe. I know you probably don’t know about this particular shade, but have you found in general releases shades under different names in different markets?

Alla Avatar

Oh well, it was definitely a long shot! Souveraine was this beautiful pinky-red coral, like a darker version of Mac’s Crosswires, that Dior released only in Europe and that I’ve been dreaming of for months (I don’t know why brands do that; why not let everyone have a chance to buy something?) I guess it will have to stay in my dreams because I haven’t seen it sold online. But this shade is lovely too, and I’ll definitely have to check it out next time I’m at a Dior counter!

My husband and wallet will not be thanking you for this review as i now feel obliged to put it on my wish list and eventually buy it when it arrives in NZ. Gah!
Theres no denying its a pretty colour and if its hydrating too – even better!

Kate Avatar

Wow. This shade looks so pretty. I already have two of the dupes listed (Hibiscus and Rouge Sensuel), but this one looks just different enough to warrant having. I’m just hoping it pulls pink enough on me to work. Corals with too much orange look like wax lips on my face.

Off topic question, I just can’t find the info anywhere. Do you know when will the new lancome teint miracle air foundation will be available for sale in the US?

Emma M Avatar

Christine, will you be reviewing Sunrise as part of the Transatlantique line too? I was about to place an order for Sunset based on these gorgeous swatches but figured I should wait and see how Sunrise looks too.

Emma M Avatar

This is probably a good thing, after the haul from Sephora’s Spring Social and Nordstrom’s Triple Points, my wallet THANKS you for not swatching Sunrise lol

Sora Avatar

Absolutely gorgeous! I ended up ordering it after seeing your swatch! This is a perfect color for the summer and I actually like the slight shimmer.

I don’t know if you remember the brand Delux Beauty, but I had an awesome lipstick by them, in the shade Clive, that seems similar to this. I bought it almost a decade ago, so I know it’s a long shot that you would have any recollection at all of that brand, and especially of that color, but on the off chance that you do, is this lipstick at all similar?

Tammie Avatar

Where can I find this specific color? All the shops you linked to don’t have Sunset 660 (and I’ve looked in person too) what is up with this color x_x It’s the only one I want and it’s apparently impossible to find…

Tammie Avatar

Hmm…I couldn’t find it on their site. They just had “sunrise” or is that the same thing? There wasn’t a color number on the page.

Penelope Economou Avatar

Great lipstick and I’ve been looking for sth like that for a long time.
Is it only available at saks? I live in London, UK.
What part of a collection is it?
Thanks
