Dior Rouge Brilliant Lipgloss Review, Photos, Swatches
Dior Rouge Brilliant Lipgloss
Dior Rouge Brilliant Lipgloss ($35.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) released a few months ago as a new formula from the brand. The new formula is supposed to be a “long-wearing, couture lip balm gloss” that is supposed to “dispense just the right amount” with its “pen-like applicator” that is hydrating. As far as color coverage is concerned, there is a lot of marketing speak, and best I can surmise is… your mileage may vary, since it is the “perfect dose” and “the right touch of vibrant color.” I bought six shades to test out, and across all six, color coverage is semi-opaque, so there’s some translucency but noticeable color on the lips, but the stronger your natural lip color is, the more it may impact how the color translates on your lips. The gloss has a smooth, lightly thickened gel-like consistency that feels plush and covers fairly evenly on average; it doesn’t feel heavy, but it has that jelly-like consistency of balm. They’re moderately hydrating–less than the best balm, better than the average gloss–with a high-shine finish. They’re non-sticky, which makes them comfortable to wear and easier to smooth out. The formula is noticeably rose-scented, though not as intense as the Fluid Addicts, so I don’t normally notice it as a taste, just a scent. The lasting power is three to five hours, which is good for a gloss as non-sticky as this. All six of the shades I tried had a very faint pearl to them, which is definitely there, but it’s hard to really see the impact of the pearl on the lips from a normal viewing distance.
Dior Swan (263) Rouge Brilliant Lipgloss ($35.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a light-medium pink with warm undertones and a fine dusting of gold pearl. It had semi-opaque coverage with minimal settling into lip lines (more noticeable on my upper lip) that lasted for four hours and was moderately hydrating. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Dior Hollywood (688) Rouge Brilliant Lipgloss ($35.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a slightly muted, medium fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and fine gold pearl. It applied somewhat evenly without pulling into lip lines and yielded semi-opaque coverage. It lasted for four and a half hours and was hydrating while worn. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Dior Rose Harpers (766) Rouge Brilliant Lipgloss ($35.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is reddish-fuchsia with slight cool undertones and a fine pink pearl. It settled into lip lines and had a tendency to look almost like a stain at times. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that covered evenly without looking streaky. The gloss wore well for four and a half hours on me and was hydrating. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Dior Darling (775) Rouge Brilliant Lipgloss ($35.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is light-medium, coral-pink with subtle, warm undertones and fine white pearl. It had semi-oapque pigmentation, though it was one of the lesser pigmented shades of the six. It lasted for four and a half hours and was hydrating, but it didn’t apply as evenly as I would have liked. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Dior Soho (888) Rouge Brilliant Lipgloss ($35.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a brightened, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cool, violet pearl. It had semi-opaque coverage that went on fairly evenly, though there was a little settling into lip lines, but it was hard to notice from a normal viewing distance. The color lasted for five hours and was hydrating over time. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Dior 999 Rouge Brilliant Lipgloss ($35.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is an orange-red with warm undertones and a delicate gold pearl. It had semi-opaque color payoff that went on fairly smoothly and evenly with very slight settling into lip lines. I didn’t find the settling to be noticeable except very up-close. The color stayed on well for five hours, and the formula felt moisturizing. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

I’m a fan of the packaging!
It is sleek!
Swan looks soooo so pretty! 10/10, would wear! 🙂
Yayy!!
999 is pretty, but for $ 35, I’m not getting the “wow” factor with any of these. I prefer my glosses to be ultra-pigmented because I always put SPF lipbalm on top, which sheers them out. I will stick to my Revlon Ultra HD glosses– those pack a wallop of pigment at fraction of a price
Thank goodness the Revlon glosses work so well for you!
Believe it or not, especially considering my penchant for bright or somewhat edgy colors; I am loving Swan! Such a lovely throw-and-go type of shade to use when our Ari(d)zona weather cranks up….into the 110’s. Only thing is, that when it comes to wear-everyday-lipglosses, my price limit is around $22-23-ish? So me thinks I’ll go with the Maybelline dupe Caramel Infused ( weird name for it ). Soho is absolutely splendiforous!!! LOVE it!!!
Hopefully the Maybelline dupe will work!
Darling and RH look mighty similar indeed. I think 999 really wakes up your face!
They seem too similar to have in the line at this time – if there were say, 30 shades, I could see it, but there are 12 or 13, I think.
Once again!!! Christine is looking fabulous in EVERY freaking color! Lol! I’m so happy for you! 😀 this is why I passed on these, your information about pigmentation proved correct! I was hoping they were offspring of a prior product and then realized nope.. Hopes dashed, wallet saved. This review makes me happy I didn’t try! Thank you again, Christine! I’m glad you reviewed these. I’ve read so many yet was borderline.. This affirms it. Money saved. 🙂 wear them with joy, darling! xx 🙂
Happy to help, Lotus! 🙂
You always do, Christine! 🙂 I’ve not received ColourPop yet but I’m having severe buyers remorse. Why? I fear I’ve missed Chanel Orchidee. It’s really tearing me up! I can’t find a dupe!!!! Hopefully they’re still be one available in 6 days! Ugh! Why did I do that? Does CP get upset when you return a large order? :/ Purples control me. I need the CampanWhatever & Alejo or whatever blue.. Well hmm.. Not really. Just the purples 😀 I don’t care about a dupe when an eyeshadow stick is easier to use! I struggle, Ya Know? If you can think of any dupes, please inform me? Oh.. I do have Armani ETK in Purpura or whatever 33 is, Violetta I think! That works.. Did those irritate you like the Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pops? I realized that CP blush is mostly silicone.. I’ll try one in my order before returning all of them but I certainly did not need to buy them all. Here’s to hoping it doesn’t weigh much! I’m going searching for your Chanel review! 😀 <3 xx
I’ve never returned to ColourPop, so I’m not sure, though I don’t return much in general when it comes to cosmetics. I can’t even remember the last return… does it count when you have to send back the product a retailer sent you didn’t order (the wrong product)? That’s about it!
The Chanel ones haven’t bothered me like MJB!
Hollywood is such a pretty color.
It is!
The pinks and reds look beautiful. I really like Hollywood
Yay! 🙂
Swan is a perfect MLBB-nude gloss for you, Christine! I’ll definitely have to give it a go since I think my cooler, uber pigmented lips may read a bit differently than your lovely lips since shades like that are usually pretty undertone dependent but you’ve made me love it.
Yep, it’s one of those shades that’s not strongly warm-toned, so the translucency + subtle undertone can definitely go differently depending on your coloring!
Definitely a swatch-first sort of shade. Especially at that price-point.
I bought Rose Harpers and as much as I think it’s a nice gloss I don’t feel that it was worth the price. I have glosses from Revlon and Bourjois that are just as good. I still like and wear it but I don’t see myself buying any more from that line. :/
They are pricey!
999 is just what I’ve been looking for. A warm red that’s not too bright or saturated. I’ll definitely be checking it out!
Hope you love it! 🙂
I have nothing specifically against these lip glosses, they are pretty enough, but I have to be completely wow’ed at this price point (did the price go up?) for a gloss. Hey, I have to budget on something and this is a good area, because I do not wear it often.
I think they’ve been moving their lip products to a $35 price point, though there are still some at $29.50/$33 – but most lipsticks are $35, the Fluid Addicts are $35, etc.
I know for me that I only fall in love with glosses at a higher price point for two reasons: 1) crazy awesome shimmer/sparkle effect, 2) opacity + color.
I like quite a few of these, Soho and 999 most of all.
Seeing the dupes makes me really want to be able to buy Revlon products here, Fire Opal looks amazing.
Revlon’s gloss range is really quite nice, aside from scent, lol! Oh, they are pretty sticky if I’m remembering correctly, but price + payoff…
Nice but a little too pricey for me – they’re $39 in Canada and I’m not a huge fan of lipgloss anyway so I’ll stick with my beloved Clarins Gloss Prodige for a mere $23 CDN.
$39 — ouch.
I have swan and plan on picking up a few more! I love the texture.
What shades were you thinking about, Leah?
Such gorgeous shades!!! I especially like Swan! 🙂
Yay!
My initial reaction to your writing and photos is $35 is just way over priced for what I am seeing. I would maybe pay $22 for the high rated ones. But, they are getting out of hand with the over-priced glosses it seems.. I just bought some of the Sephora brand gel glossses for $14 each and they look better than these IMO. I will be passing. I was curious if these were “worth it” though. Thanks for letting me know! The packaging is gorgeous. But, I’d musch prefer a better performing product than a fancy packaging!
Glad I could share, Nicole! 🙂
I like 999, but none of these are worth the price, IMO.
They are climbing in price!
Beautiful colors. Not too opaque for my taste. As usual, I can’t wear orange. Have a couple dupes and would likely purchase the Sephora dupes if I buy any. I have a sinful amount of lipsticks and glosses.
They have a good balance of pigmentation and gloss!
I was waiting for your review on these but can’t wait..I bought almost all the colors that they offered cause I freaking looovvveeee them so much! No lip balm is needed..it will be much better if you outline the lips first with lipliner and then put the gloss on top..never dry out my lips..this is utter perfection!
Happy to hear you’re loving them! Sorry — I don’t test with lip liners 🙁
Packaging is gorgeous, but I can’t justify myself to spend 35$ in a lipgloss.
I totally understand!
I have one of these – either Darling or Rose Harpers by the looks of it! – and I like it well enough, but wouldn’t buy another. The applicator is weird.
Yeah, I’m not sure about “perfect dose” on the applicator, haha.
Rose Harpers, Darling, and 999 are my favorites! I really need these!! <3
Great picks, Shipra!
