Rising Star (09)

Dior Rising Star (09) DiorSkin Nude Luminizer ($48.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a soft, peachy-pink with warm undertones and a lightly sparkly, luminous sheen. It had a soft, smooth consistency that was dense without being dry or too firmly pressed in the pan, so the powder picked up well with a brush, spread and blended out nicely but did not have excess product that kicked up in the pan. It had nearly opaque pigmentation, though it could easily be applied with a lighter hand if preferred. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

I’ve been waiting for this to launch in the US, and it might have for all my Dior-stalking has done for me, but I haven’t personally seen it in stock. I bought mine from Selfridges a month or two ago, and it is available through Harrods presently.

Formula Overview

$50.00/0.21 oz. - $238.10 Per Ounce

It's a new line of powder highlighters that are supposed to give the "face a multidimensional glow" with a "high concentration of shimmering pigments." It's an update on their previous Luminizers but with lighter-weight packaging (and no included brush, which wasn't anything to write home about anyway!) and a lower price.

The ingredient list seemed to be the same, and by touch, they seemed to be nearly the same--I felt like the updated version seemed a smidgen drier/more firmly pressed but it was barely noticeable and a couple were a little lighter/darker swatched but may simply have reflected more or less light in the particular shot as there was little difference on my skin. They had medium to opaque color coverage that applied well, lasted for eight hours, and blended out easily. The texture was denser, smooth to the touch, but firmer (so no powderiness) but require a moderately dense brush and/or medium hand to pick up product.

This is a really pretty compact, but… what on earth is a “luminizer?” I remember when we just needed blush. Now there’s also highlighter and bronzer and contouring powders and setting and baking and finishing powders and that’s not even bringing in the sprays, but this doesn’t work as any of those as it’s both too light and too dark, yet it costs $48. It’s kind of a blush if we wear $12 worth at a time, I guess.

Luminizer adds a glow to the skin, which is what highlighters, generally, do 🙂 Just like something like “eyeshadow” has many different names! Eyeshadow, Pressed Powder, Shadow, Eye Color, etc. as brands like to differentiate and come up with their own formula names. As always, you don’t NEED anything in makeup – it’s all about what you like, what suits you and your routine, etc.

Please keep in mind that there is an absolute need in the industry for products cover ALL skin tones – so just because the product doesn’t work as a highlighter for your coloring, that doesn’t mean it won’t for someone else because people exist in so many skin tones + undertones that absolutely aren’t going to be the same as yours! The idea of that highlighters have to be one specific depth excludes a huge number of skin tones, and this type of attitude is so pervasive but so discouraging for those who are so happy that we’re finally seeing greater variety in offerings – diversity and inclusivity need span beyond just base products. What’s great about makeup is if you see a highlighter that’s too “dark” for your preference, then it can absolutely be used as a bronzer or blush… or you can simply use what you already have or find a shade that does work for you! 🙂

This is beautiful! It’s a blush color I have looking for in a nice formula. Sucks that it’s limited edition though. I am kind of on a no buy ?

This is gorgeous! I have the Pink Glow Luminizer and love it as a cheekbone highlighter. I could see myself wanting this one to use as a shimmery blush…that is, if I wasn’t already overloaded in blushes. I’m kind of glad it’s not available in the U.S., so I won’t be tempted to buy it!

Hi !
I love this but the $30 shipping is not ok !! Have you seen the wild earth highlighter ? It looks like the powder writing on the top is the only highlighter and rest of powder is just that , pink powder. Both colors the powder underneath the lettering seems to be the same. On this one I’m going to wait for your review, or if it comes to Macy’s, etc, I’ll look before I buy this one . The impressions in the compact look super cool though .

Even though I don’t trust my monitor, this color reminds me of Nars Orgasm, but the Dior formula is far superior to that of Nars. My guess is that if this is a winner as a LE, we’ll see it again repackaged and offered down stream in more colors. Leave it to Dior to create a beautiful powder and market it well.
