Dior Night Bird Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Night Bird (459)
Dior Night Bird (459) 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($62.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette from the brand’s fall collection. All five shades had semi-opaque to opaque color coverage, were blendable, and long-lasting. The formula felt like a gel-powder hybrid, so they have a more “baked” quality to them, which can require a slightly heavier hand if one is used to working with more powdery formulas.

Night Bird #1
Night Bird #1 is a medium, olive green with moderate, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The texture was smooth, moderately dense but not stiff to work with, and blendable. It had mostly opaque, buildable color coverage that wore well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have a "creamy and comfortable texture" that is long-wearing and has "intense color" (or "high-pigment"). There are five finishes that can be found within various palettes: matte, satin, shimmer, metallic, highlighter, and glitter, though there aren't specific descriptions by finish, unfortunately.
There were a few shades that seemed more sparkly and were sheerer, more like layering shades, while the other finishes tended to be pigmented. In general, the texture was moderately dense with the matte shades being slightly thinner and a smidgen powdery in the pan compared to the satin, shimmer, and metallic shades.
Aside from those more sparkly shades, the formula was blendable, pigmented, easy to work with, and lasted an average of eight hours on me (without a primer).

Night Bird #3
Night Bird #3 is a medium orange-coral with warm undertones and a soft, satiny sheen. The eyeshadow had mostly opaque color coverage that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well as the texture was soft, smooth, and blendable without being too firmly nor too softly pressed into the pan. It lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Night Bird #3
LELimited Edition.
Night Bird #4
Night Bird #4 is a muted, medium-dark forest green with a slightly cooler, almost bluish base and warmer, olive shimmer throughout. The color itself appeared bluer in the pan but ended up looking green on my skin. The texture was soft, blendable, and a little powdery but seemed to “melt” after a few minutes on my lid. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

That’s so pretty. I love these colors, but can’t ever make them work on my eyes, but I’m so tempted by this, especially the bluer shades.
That bottom right teal is a real standout! Would buy as a single for sure, but palettes aren’t really my jam — esp when they’re at this price point and when over half the colors are things I’d either never wear or already have a dozen dupes for. Desperately want to see more eye products constructed this way — neutralish base colors with contrasting and more dramatically-hued shimmer and sparkle. SO much more wearable/versatile for me than a straight-up solid “metallic green” or whatever. I bet this one sheers out beautifully!
This is absolutely gorgeous – love all those beautiful green shades, but you would definitely need to reach to other palettes to provide complementary shades eg Glam, Naked 2, Sultry and other neutral palettes.
So glad Nightbird rated so high ..
It’s my fav. Of the quads
Glorious.
I’m in love with this quint! 😍
I have a funny feeling that this will not only go home with me, but will attain Chanel Empriente du Desert recognition in my stash!
The colour scheme seems more spring like to me but I don’t really care when the shades are this pretty. I feel like Dior has been having a good run of late.
I find this palette so very appealing both in color and quality. My concern is that I I have gray eyes that lean slightly blue and I don’t think it would work. I would try it in a heartbeat if the cost was less but I think it’s probably worth the price. Sad
I hope this drops at Nordstrom or Sephora, I will treat myself. I love how it’s colorful but when you break it down the colors are fairly gentle and harmonious.
As with Nars, I have a bit of a soft spot for Dior so even though don’t want this quint at all, I’m happy it rated well.
Welp, looks like this Dior quint’s joining my stash! First Dior quint in 5 years! I love the feather embossing and unsual color combo, will be great for soft washes/pops of color. Also like how the darker shades look complex and wearable, no dupes in my stash. If they keep using this new, improved formula, my wallet’s going to be in trouble! Thanks for the swatches and review!
I finally tried this palette today. Initially, the color story looked unusual and possibly a little redundant with the two shades at the bottom. But it’s not redundant.
#5 is a duochrome with a brown/black base and a beautiful iridescent shift from blue to violet in the pan. On the lid, the shift is subtle, as the dark base overwhelms the iridescence. But foiled with Mac Fix+, it was stunning and obvious. I wonder if it’ll be more obvious when foiled on a dark base (I used P.Louise base shade 1).
#4 registers as a stunning metallic teal on my lids, especially foiled. I can see myself using this shade all over the lid.
The coral shade is a wonderful transition color that’s buildable. I dipped into it with a small brush (Suqqu cheek) and used it as a blush to good effect. I love palettes that have a potential blush or contour shade because it goes the look together.
The metallic olive (#1) registered more antique gold on my lid initially but olive when foiled. And the metallic pale yellow (#2) is a beautiful inner corner and browbone highlight. It reminds me of the reflection of the sun on water. So in one palette, you have the colors of the ocean or a lake, with the sun – it’s a perfect summer color story (https://farm7.staticflickr.com/6132/5916999452_9646f5f5cb_b.jpg).
Over the course of the day, everything settled into a more muted and sultry look. It’s the best blue/green look I’ve ever achieved and with relative ease. Even though I have these colors elsewhere in my collection, I worry they will look clownish. And if blue, green, or violet migrate even a little, it starts to look like a black eye.
So I was pleasantly surprised and even shocked and how terrific this looks. It’s been 11 hours and the look is still quite good. The coral has faded significantly (as Christine mentioned) but everyone else has stuck around, including the beautiful pale yellow. I’m a little blown away by this palette!

This is so beautiful… I can’t help but wonder if these feathers stay or if one should avoid using the palette not to ruin them…
Very pretty!
