Dior House of Dreams (739) Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
House of Dreams (739)
Dior House of Dreams (739) 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition holiday release that included four more neutral shades (three shimmers, one matte) accented by a metallic silver in the center. The three lighter shimmers were more prone to running together, so the palette didn’t produce a lot of different looks as a result. The quality was there, though, as the eyeshadows were pigmented, blendable, and longer-wearing.

House of Dreams #1
House of Dreams #1 is a medium peach with moderate, warm orange undertones and barely-there pink contrasting pearl. The texture was moderately dense to the touch, firm but not stiff to work with, which ensured it wasn’t powdery during application. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have a "creamy and comfortable texture" that is long-wearing and has "intense color" (or "high-pigment"). There are five finishes that can be found within various palettes: matte, satin, shimmer, metallic, highlighter, and glitter, though there aren't specific descriptions by finish, unfortunately.
There were a few shades that seemed more sparkly and were sheerer, more like layering shades, while the other finishes tended to be pigmented. In general, the texture was moderately dense with the matte shades being slightly thinner and a smidgen powdery in the pan compared to the satin, shimmer, and metallic shades.
Aside from those more sparkly shades, the formula was blendable, pigmented, easy to work with, and lasted an average of eight hours on me (without a primer).

LELimited Edition.
House of Dreams #3
House of Dreams #3 is a bright, light-medium silver with a sparkling, metallic shine. The eyeshadow had a smooth, moderately dense texture that felt a little more emollient compared to the other shades, which aided in adhesion as there was very minimal fallout when applied with a dry brush. It had opaque pigmentation that wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

LELimited Edition.
House of Dreams #4
House of Dreams #4 is a darker, rosy mauve with moderate, warm undertones and a pearl finish. The texture was smooth to the touch, firmer and denser but not thick or so firmly-pressed that it became stiff, so I had no trouble picking up full coverage with a dry brush and diffusing it along the edges. This shade stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

This is typically elegant Dior….if I were the sort of woman who only wore a very few colour cosmetics and wanted a look that was always elegant and sophisticated, THIS is the sort of palette I would buy….buy it and use it ever day til it was gone and then move on to their next elegant offering. Years ago, I bought Nars Kalahari and that duo gives the same sort of look – just elegant and always right for any situation. But I won’t be purchasing this quint. I have enough dupes and this is a pretty pricey palette. But I am glad that it rated so well.
Even though I know that I’m more drawn towards Atelier Dore, this one is lovely for a cooler toned eye with a pop of true silver.
This is the one I’d really loved out of this release, but now I see it’s just the silver! I can dupe that easily.
A very subtle and sophisticated palette, although I do wish shades 1 & 2 were a tad more pigmented. Shade 4 was the beautiful one for me.
This one is due with my this morning. I am in the UK/Ireland and none of the stores have the collection. Selfridges charge shipping, so I always buy direct from Dior UK. I was unsure the shades of darker brown in the Dore palette being too dark for me?
So thank you, Christine, for the review.
I don’t think it’s too dark, and Dior’s formula can be sheered out/built up!
I like this a lot were it not for the shimmer! I bought too many shimmery singles on my last purchase so I need mattes to balance it out. Nevertheless I could see myself reaching for this if I had it. I think the colours are quite pretty and very elegant, like Mariella said.
I do love this little quint, but I have some dupes so I’ll make do with them. I agree completely with Mariella regarding being the type of woman wearing few eyeshadow colours, always being elegant, and when the quint is empty, go to the next offering in the same type of colour. I know, I was that woman for a while. It was easy, not much to chose from, but what there was was of good quality. These days I find playing with colours so much fun! But, I think my makeup life goes in cycles, I might one day find myself with one Dior quint, being perfectly happy.
I forgot to thank Christine for saving me quite a lot of $!
