More Red Than You Bargained For!

Dior Ceremony Red (774) Dior Addict Ultra Gloss ($24.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a gold-shimmered medium red with subtle blue undertones. MAC Totally Fab is less blue-toned. MAC Send Me Sailing is darker. Chanel Triomphal is darker, pinker, and has pink shimmer. YSL Golden Red is orange-toned.

The formula is described as “delivering a sheer wash of catwalk color” while being hydrating and highly reflective.  This is the other new and limited edition color for the holidays, and it’s much more pigmented than Lame Gold. This has semi-opaque color coverage; there’s a noticeable translucency to the overall color, but there is quite a bit of pigmentation packed into the tube.  It’s definitely more color than a “sheer wash of … color.”  So, that gain might be your gain, or it might be a deal-breaker depending on your preference in opacity for gloss!

The texture of Dior’s Ultra Glosses is really lovely and comfortable to apply and wear.  It’s not thin, but it’s not heavy either; it feels cushion-y and gel-like on the lips.  When I tested Ceremony Red, it wore for four hours, and it was nicely hydrating during that period.  It’s also non-sticky, and the brush applicator doesn’t leave streaks behind.

The sparkles make this gloss, however, I’m still not quite convinced I *need* this. The base color is a bit too pink for me, but I do wonder what it would look like on top of a deeper red lipstick…
