Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer Is #1 in Highlighting

Dior’s Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer ($42.00) is my all-time favorite highlighter. It is such a phenomenally flattering combination of soft gold shimmer with bronze undertones. I think this product works well on all skin tones, but it will flatter warmer skin tones moreso than cool ones–like, let’s say instead of being a full 10/10, cool tones might find it just 8 or 9/10!

What makes this highlighter so great is the formula of the Skin Shimmer. It is a finely milled pressed powder that creates a natural, glowy sheen that’s never over the top. I’m medium-toned with warm under tones, and I find it gives me mostly shimmer, perhaps a slight bit of golden color on the cheeks. It definitely does not bronze me or darken my complexion, so for those with lighter skin tones, this is not a product to fear!

I think it must be clear this product is fully endorsed and recommended by me, considering I repurchased it. My first one broke into pieces while traveling to Hawaii this past summer, and while I smushed it all and pressed it with alcohol… it’s just not the same when it’s all mixed together (because there was just no way to separate the broken mess into definable colors like it comes!). I was just waiting for Sephora’s big sale so I could break down and get it. And now I can say… all is well again!

(I really need to get my hands on the Rose Skin Shimmer, though!)

I heard that Dior might have discontinued the Rose Skin Shimmer. I tried to get it at Nordstrom and order it online, and it’s out everywhere. I could be wrong…actually I hope I’m wrong 🙂

from what i know the rose diamond is still in circulation… i looooooove the copper diamond from the fall collection though, it’s the perfect combination of the rose and amber skin shimmers.

What a perfect combo of shimmer and pigment! This one hits the jackpot of all highlighters out there. You will not always get what you paid for, but this one is definitely worth every dollar. Hey, thanks to Christine I got this with 20% off!!!

I gotta disagree with you, Christine… perhaps because my skin is insanely fair, I can actually use this highlighter as a blush! Yep, it is pigmented enough.

Hay! How exactly look this amber color on the fair skin…. golden, peach, yellow? I want some warm golden color on my cheeks, but not bronze or orange, is amber that color or copper maybe?

I LOVE those colors!! Can someone tell me how either of these colors (Amber or Rose) Diamond look on dark skin? Ive heard that the Copper diamond is sold out and is good for darker skin but Im willing to buy maybe Amber Diamond if it is a close comparison….thanks!

OooOoo this is beautiful! I HAVE to get this now! I saw your video with it included too and it just looks amazing, especially on your lovely skin. Your stunning doll! I just bought Rouge Bunny Rouge highlighting liquid in Sea of Clouds and its gorgeousssss, however it was 70$!!! I no, I am crazy. I dont buy makeup though, it was my first buy besides drugstore in a YEAR! Everything else I have to swap for, blah :/ Love your site so much! I have been following you for at least 2 years now. Do you buy everything you have or do people send you items? I am not sure why, but I have trouble navigating your site. It is probably my computer but I can’t click on any links, so what is posted as is is all I get! I can’t even go to page 2 :/ Grr! Anyway, I will continue to keep following you beautiful! Best wishes and hope all is going well for you 😉

Aww!! Sometimes the patience makes the reward so much more worth it 🙂

Many PR/brands send product for consideration (which basically means that if I’m interested or it fits what I think readers want to see, I’ll review it, but I don’t have any obligations to), and I don’t guarantee what I’ll say (or not say) about it.

Hi Christine! I love this site, the swatches have proved so useful in making informed decisions about what makeup to invest in! You really take the guesswork and luck out of buying expensive products! So thanks 🙂

Anyway, do you think that Amber diamond and Rose diamond look best on particular skins. For example, would Rose be better on MAC NW20/25 skin as both are pink-based? I prefer the look of the Amber one, but don’t want it to clash with my undertone. Seeing as it’s such an expensive product I want to get it right!!

Thanks x

Hi Christine,
I bought Laura Mercier Shimmer bloc(Golden mosaic) which performs highlighting, bronzing(its my first highlighter and bronzer). Do you think Dior Amber diamond can be used as a bronzer? Which one do u think will be better in terms of bringing natural sunkissed glow (i love that). I havent used my LM product yet so there is a chance to return and get Dior. I am an NC42.

This is seriously one of the greatest beauty items I’ve ever owned. It is definitely expensive, but it’s worth every single Cent. It’s so gorgeous that I don’t think I will ever have to spend money for another highlighting product.

Just picked this up after a year of contemplating and trying not to buy this product. I finally gave in with a Sephora VIB discount and got it. I have to say it is beautiful. I own a lot of highlighters, high and low end, and this by far is the most natural looking one. So finely milled and looks so natural with it on. I recommend putting it under your blush at the cheek bones to get an even more effortless highlight. Not chunky or glittery at all. Very nice quality and does match the price tag.

Thanx Christine, yes i agree i have to admit i dont find a huge use for my shimmer bricks because i find they are a little too frosty which is why i was reluctant to try these but i think i will have to give them a go!
much love

people were saying that the physicians formula shimmer strips are a dupe for this. is this true? i buckled down & bought this but i’m wondering if i coulda gotten the same effect from drugstore. anyone??

Christine-Temptalia Avatar

@zaara IMO, the effect is very different. I found PF’s Shimmer Strips to be *really* frosty – it would emphasize pores. This is a lot subtler – less color, more sheen than shimmer. It depends on what you want, you know? Some have no problem with how shimmery the Shimmer Strips are 🙂
