Dior Amber (002) Diorskin Nude Shimmer Instant Illuminating Powder Review, Photos, Swatches
Dior Amber (002) Diorskin Nude Shimmer Instant Illuminating Powder
Dior Amber (002) Diorskin Nude Shimmer Instant Illuminating Powder ($56.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a gold-shimmered, light-medium peach-orange with warm undertones and a satiny sheen. MAC Alpine Bronze (LE, $25.00) is darker, browner. MAC Fairly Precious (LE, $30.00) is lighter. Givenchy In Vogue Orange (P, $44.00) is less shimmery, darker. Clarins Graphic Expression (LE, $35.00) is lighter. NARS Puerto Vallarta (LE, $39.00) is a cream product, darker, brighter. NARS Luster (P, $29.00) is darker, more shimmery. MAC Trace Gold (P, $21.00) is browner. MAC Blazing Haute (LE, $25.00) is a touch darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Much like in my review for Rose (001), I regret to pass along that Amber (002) is no replacement for Amber Diamond. They share a similarity in terms of tone, and even in the pan, but applied, they’re very different, as Amber (002) is much darker, more pigmented, and way, way less shimmery. The texture is soft, finely-milled, a little powdery, and easy to blend and apply to the skin. This shade had more noticeable shimmer applied to the skin than Rose (001), though it didn’t emphasize pores too much, there was a very, very slight emphasis that must be noted. It had good color payoff that’s buildable and blendable, so the intensity can be controlled. When worn, the color lasted for eight hours before it started to fade.

LELimited Edition. $56.00.

Dior Amber (002) Diorskin Nude Shimmer Instant Illuminating Powder vs. Amber Diamond
These two are much more comparable than the other Rose ones right? I find them more wearable!
They’re a bit closer, but this one is still more “blush/bronzer” territory with a more shimmery finish vs. highlighter. Like Amber Diamond gives a hint of color but primarily sheen.
I actually might try out Amber and Rose! They look like lovely summertime blushes 😀
Yay! Enjoy!
This is such a bummer. I totally missed out on those diamond powders. 🙁 Needing help with the best available dupes . 🙁
There aren’t really dupes that come to mind for either that are permanent 🙁
You might just like the Milani highlighters. This brand never eases to amaze me. Excellent quality. Often comparable to high-end items except for the packaging.
Wish they still had it, too!
You could try the Milani and Physician’s Formula shimmer strips
I love my MAC Fairly Precious, so thank you, Christine, for saving me $$. I really appreciate it!
No problem! xo
Dior compacts are so pretty!
Agreed!
The main appeal of this blush, just like the other one is the presentation. I still don’t think it justifies the price point. It is gorgeous though!
It is lovely!
As always, you hit the most salient points for me in this review- how much shimmer, pigment and pore emphasis. Very helpful.
Thank you, Liz!
I like this way better than the pink one! It has a prettier and more obvious sheen. Only problem is that I’m pretty sure it’s too warm for my skintone (NW20 atm). I’m sure I would love it mixed with amber diamond on the brush before applying.
This is surprisingly warm, IMO! I thought it was going to be a little more subdued.
I definitely prefer the originals.. neither of these appeal..one too orange, the other too pink and the pigmentation lends to looking more like dupeable blushes. They are pretty in the pan, though and this warmer toned one looks lovely on you, Christine.
Right? There aren’t that many *permanent* highlighters out there – highlighters seem to be LE and then you have your more standard yellow-tinged white gold permanent options.
What about Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks?
Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don’t, because they can be frost overload and emphasize pores.
Ohhh the old Amber Diamond is soooooooo much prettier (same with the rose one)… crossing my fingers they don’t discontinue it!!! I think I will buy a backup just in case (since in my experience, when products I love go discontinued, I never find out until it’s too late- maybe I just don’t pay enough attention)
Most brands discontinue things very, very quietly. Half the time they do not alert until stock is really low. Even then, it seems like the only way to find out is to ask artists at the counter/store.
And lo and behold, I tried to look for a backup of Amber Diamond online and it’s gone from every outlet 🙁 None left at Sephora, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Neiman, Bloomingdale’s, etc. Sephora doesn’t even have it listed as out of stock, it’s gone period, which probably means all hope is lost.
And it’s selling on Amazon and Ebay for $100+. Time to start rationing what I have, lol. Thankfully it lasts a long time!
They still have them (amber & rose diamond) at the Macy’s in Boston when I stopped by today. Maybe you could check with your local Macy’s.
It has been discontinued, sorry!
I checked the mall today and they are gone..nowhere to be found
I really like the older ones better! I don’t understand why Dior decided to replace them. I like the new design but the older versions were much prettier!
I really hope these weren’t intended as a replacement, but so far, it seems as if that was the intention.
i much prefer the prior version as well…very sad i didn’t know they were going to be discontinued so i could stock up
Are these limited edition or permanent? It says LE on Sephora’s website but I read somewhere else that they will be added to the permanent line to “replace” Rose and Amber Diamond. Can’t wait to buy this one either way! 🙂
I have heard it both ways as well, but Sephora listed them as LE, so I went with that. I reached out to Dior HQ for a press release but haven’t received one yet so I don’t have the official word.
Looks gorgeous, a lot more wearable than a lot of warm-toned orangey highlighters out there 🙂
Glad ya liked it!
This probably gives too much a sheen for me, but on you it sure looks lovely!
Thank you!
Aye… Seriously? I’m quite apologetic to seem such a negative nut, but really? As I look at the thousands I’ve spent, in many containers throughout my room, I feel such guilt they aren’t laden with drugstore products. What have I contributed to? Yet.. I can’t stop. I’m going to take a wild guess that it’s probably good I haven’t delved into those brands mentioned on another question one day…. I’d be running from more debt. At least I’ve donated at least 1/3 of what monetarily I’ve had.. And I do give things generously. My jelly mixing, Five, Turtle, and I, are going to have an intervention with me.
We all need balance, but as long as you have that balance, don’t feel guilty for indulging!
Well, it looks so bleeping good! Thank you for your encouragement! 😉 I can blame you!
~ WORDS TO LIVE BY~ (but screw the balance) This is GORGEOUS on you! I’m guessing also versatile for more fair skin?
Yes, I would say so!
I like the other one I commented on more.
At least you liked one!
It’s very pretty, but like the Rose..I like the highlighter version better.
I think they’re such different products in the end that it really depends what you’re looking for! Definitely not a replacement, though.
For anyone who finds this too orange/warm, or just can’t justify the cost, try the Maybelline Master Hi-light in Light Bronze, which has a similar finish (in between this & Amber Diamond), and leans a bit more peachy-pink.
Thanks for sharing, Amy!
Thank you! That’s exactly what I’m looking for!
Love your lip color! What is it?
THE MAKEUP LOOK
On face: Guerlain Parure de Lumiere Foundation, Guerlain Les Voilettes Loose Powder. On lips: Dior Magique (479).
Not too bad but too warm for me 🙁 I’m sure it will sell like hotcakes though.
Most likely!
These are such pretty products 🙂 A little too orange for me I think (what isn’t, LOL!), but once again I’ve gotten distracted by the Amber Diamond you’re comparing it too 😀
It is quite warm-toned!
Sooooooooooo Sad they discontinued the Diamonds! I loved mine and if i knew they were going to be discontinued i would have purchased backups for the ones that are now hitting pan!!! Ugh
Aww! 🙁
I am surprised that this emphasized the pores/unevenness on the skin so much. I guess it could be because there’s more shimmer/glowiness from this than the other Amber Diamond! Well, that helps in making the decision then 🙂 Thanks!
No problem, Stephanie!
This is very pretty, but like you said – it’s no Amber Diamond.
I wish they had called it something else so we wouldn’t even THINK they were similar!
