CoverGirl Lip Perfection: Rapture, Temptation, Burn, Rich, Flame, Hot

Here last six shades from the Nudes/Corals/Reds portion of the CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipcolor ($6.99 for 0.12 oz.) range. When it comes to seeking out rich, opaque lipstick with an affordable price tag, LipPerfection is at the top of my list. The only issue I had with the formula is that it is not as moisturizing as it claims to be. They can be on the thicker side, because they are so creamy.

  • Rapture is a frosted, pink-coral with full color coverage. It’s a bit redder than Make Up For Ever #4 but a little less orange compared to Lancome Corset. MAC Viva Glam Cyndi has a similar color base but doesn’t have the frosted finish (so it appears darker).
  • Temptation is a vibrant, dark coral-orange with coppery-gold shimmer. Surprisingly, this shade was a little less pigmented than the majority of the range, though it still has nearly opaque color coverage. Urban Decay 5150 has a similar base color but lacks the gold shimmer and sheen. La Prairie Corail is less glossy and vibrant. It is richer and more vibrant than MAC Drive Me Wild.
  • Burn is a rich, deep red with ruby micro-shimmer and nearly opaque color coverage. It’s a touch brighter compared to Guerlain Garconne but very similar. It’s a bit darker than Chanel Byzantin.
  • Rich is a subtly berry-infused red with pale, white-pink shimmer. It applies opaquely with a soft, frosted finish. It’s a little redder but seems closest to Tom Ford Moroccan Rouge. Estee Lauder Plumberry is redder.
  • Flame is a vibrant pinky-red with a creamy finish and opaque color. Make Up For Ever #37 is several shades lighter. MAC Pink Fusion is more orange-based and lighter. Chanel Cambon comes close but it’s a touch lighter and less vibrant. MAC Gesina seems to be the closest – just a little more red-based.
  • Hot is a vibrant cherry red with subtle blue undertones. It is similar to any number of blue-based reds (see the Swatch Gallery of red lipsticks to compare). Two I felt were remarkably similar were Make Up For Ever #43 and MAC Heartless.

I think these are great inexpensive lipsticks. In my opinion, they have better pay off than some of your more expensive brands. Im dying to get my hands on burn now!!!!

I own Flame and used to own Temptation. First of all, I think it’s funny that they have a Tempt, Temptress, and Temptation in the same line 😛 Second, I really love Flame. Temptation, on the other hand, is a nice color but the texture is so gritty, I could only wear it with a gloss on top. The color is an exact dupe color-wise for MAC’s Look At Her! Sheen Supreme Lipstick, but the MAC texture is so much better.

I hope they have these at my local CVS so that I can rack up on my beauty points. I have my eyes on the R’s – Rapture, Rich, Rush, Romance, and Heavenly too. I already have way too many lippies, but for the price I don’t think I’ll be able to help myself.

Wow! Every single one of these look gorgeous on you! There is seriously not one single lipstick out of these that I would not like to own. I know where all my moneys going!

For a moment, I thought you were done with all of the CG Lip Perfection lippies, but then I went on their website and saw that you still have quite a ways to go. ._. That must be a bit tiring, all of those swatches/pictures!

I was trying to view them all together in the Swatch Gallery, though I couldn’t find the Covergirl brand there. D:

Hi Christine! I have extreme oily eyelids (Mac paintpots and benefit creasless cream shadows fade within 1 hour). What eye primer would you suggest? I don’t wanna buy a ton of high end eye primers only to have none of them work on me 🙁

I went to Target last night with the intention of purchasing Burn and Flame. However, once I got there, they looked nothing like the beautiful swatches so I didn’t buy them. Is that crazy? Burn looked like a copper gold color instead of this beautiful reddish berry. Should I just trust the swatches?

The tubes were not sealed so I peeked inside and these colors looked totally different. Very weird. I did not actually put them on my hand or anything. Maybe they look different in the tubes.

Like I love this Burn swatch. When I looked at it in person it looks like a warm orangy bronze. Is it orangy? When I looked at the Burn dupes, they look to me like blue-based red pink which is the color I want. I love the swatches of the dupes as well. I’m just confused now 🙂

Thank you for doing all of these lip swatches (your poor lips!) I bought a couple of these lipsticks when they first came out and the color on my lips was nothing like the color on the end of the tube. It’s great to see what they look like, and now I can pick a color that I like better. Thank you!

I just went out to buy “Hot” and found one called “Hot Passion” and got that instead and I’m wearing it now. Are these the same? It looks like the same red however it does not look as shiny as the one you pictured.

Hi, I have a question. I wear NC20 in MAC foundation and I want a drugstore red lipstick but I don’t know what to pick between Hot and Burn. Any recommendations?

Candice Avatar

Hey Christine! I know im a bit late on these but i need some help. I am NC30, young and asian with royal purple highlights. I need help picking a red that isnt too too bright to be used when i perform on stage as well as for special occasions. What should i look for in a red and which of these would u recommend?

Marie Avatar

I was reading a Woman’s Day article about red lipstick recommendations; for medium skin tones, they suggested the above shade of “Hot”, saying that it is “orangey” and “will reflect…yellow undertones.” HA! Thank you for being smarter than a MAGAZINE and noting that this shade is actually blue-based!! Can’t believe that they allowed that to be printed lol.

My synchronized swimming team wears Burn during competitions and I will completely vouch for the wear time, which is excellent. It lasts well in the water and is fairly resistant to transfer on teeth over the duration of a few hours. The only problem I’ve experienced was that when it faded,it did so unevenly from the center of the lips outward.

Flame is so pretty (= I wish I could wear these kind of reds, i’m to damn white and even Nicki’s Minaj Mac Lipstick looks super neon on me :/
