LUSH Shark Fin Soap for Charity

LUSH Shark Fin Soap for Charity

LUSH Shark Fin Soap
($5.95 for 3.5 oz.) just launched and is a limited edition soap that benefits Shark Savers, a non-profit organization that works for the protection and conservation of sharks. LUSH is donating 100% of the proceeds of the soap. It’s described as “packed full of softening seaweed, scrubby fine sea salt, and zest lime oil.”

It smells salty and zesty–very citrus-based with a definite tartness. You get a bit of the seaweed coming through when it’s actually be used (I used it as a body soap in the shower) but overall, the lime oil dominates. I like it, and it’s more of a unisex scent, too. There’s enough lather to enable it to glide over skin easily but don’t expect lots of soapy lather. Only the faintest hint of lime and salt (it has the crispness of the sea breeze–without the coconut and sunscreen) remained on my skin post-shower, which may be a good or a bad thing, depending on your needs.

It seems similar to Sea Vegetable Soap, which also has lime, seaweed, and sea salt (and though Shark Fin isn’t described with lavender in it, it is in the ingredients’ list), which I haven’t smelled, so I can’t attest to how similar they may (or may not) be. The ingredient lists for the two aren’t exactly the same but the beginning of both are nearly identical. This was more to say – if you like that, you might like this, too.

Doesn’t it almost look like the view of a shark’s mouth and belly?

This was out in the UK a couple of years ago but was discontinued. Not sure if the soap is exactly the same but it had a shark fin.

I think it’s a cool idea, especially for charity! Also a hit with males as it makes them think it’s a “manly” soap!

I love LUSH!
I love sharks as well so I’ll be getting this for sure, It’s such a cheap price to pay for doing something good.

Thanks for the review Christine and you’re right – the last pic does looks like a shark swimming around in there 😀

Yay! I’m gonna get me lots of these! I love sharks. Sadly, they are one of the most misunderstood creatures of the world! And now, on the verge of extinction, despite the fact that they are a prehistoric animal.
So, let’s do a little something to help! 🙂

This is a pretty cool idea. I used to work at the NY Aquarium when I was a teen (as a docent), and sharks were my forte.

I like Sea Vegetable, so I wouldn’t mind trying this.

According to their description and ingredients for this im pretty sure it’s just Sea Vegetable soap with the fin added on. Either way its for a good cause. I bought a bar in an online LUSH order a couple days ago! 🙂

I also agree that you should review more lush products! They are a great company that really sticks to their ethics and all of their products are really fun and effective… I’m a Lush addict, so I’m biased. 🙂

It’s definitely Sea Vegetable soap in a new format, same as when they did this last summer in the UK. Since I both love the scent of the soap and think it’s a good cause, I’m definitely going to grab a bar!

Love this. Would be GREAT it the fin was strong enough of whatever it’s made of to use as an under the nail cleaner/scraper! I am probably the only one ever who did not like the LUSH cuticle cream that is so raved about in nail blogs. I popped for one rare one on eBay – won it and soon as I get going on MUA will put it there for trade with 1 tiny used of it. The smell killed me and I thought that was one of the great traits besides being so full of love/handmade/company green friendly and on and on. But I am willing to try other Lush products. This sure would be a conversation getter when friends come back out of my bathroom and saw this (hopefully used it too) on my bathroom sink!

that is seriously the most disgusting looking soap I’ve ever seen! it looks like there is mold and skin diseases growing on the bottom… I don’t get the lush hype, but I think I’m the only one.

It is Sea Vegetable Soap. Its a nice deal too if you’re a fan of the soap. Its approx. $9.50(1/4 lbs) worth of soap for only $5.95 and for such a great cause!
