ColourPop Rain Super Shock Cheek Review, Photos, Swatches
ColourPop Rain Super Shock Cheek
ColourPop Rain Super Shock Cheek ($8.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “mid-tone lavender in a matte finish.” It’s a lightly pink-tinged, medium lavender with subtle, cooler undertones and a semi-matte finish. Urban Decay Bittersweet (P, $26.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Clinique Pansy Pop (P, $21.00) is a smidgen lighter. Makeup Geek Secret Admirer (P, $9.99) is lighter. Sephora + Pantone Universe Radiant Orchid (LE) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
This is a cream-based formula that is billed as having buildable coverage with the greatest coverage achieved by applying with fingertips and the least by using a stippling brush. It was sheer to semi-opaque, depending on your application and how much you layered, but it always appeared slightly lighter applied than it did in the pan–I think the pink tone comes through more. The texture was lightly creamy, fairly blendable, and sat well on the skin, while it lasted for almost nine hours on me. This one wasn’t quite as blendable as other shades I’ve tried in the formula, but it wasn’t too difficult to use. It is a good option for someone wanting to try purple blush but doesn’t want to break the bank!

Oh, Christine, you’ve read my mind!! I was trying to figure out which purple blush to get (ColourPop, Clinique Pop Cheeks, or UD Bittersweet). Still trying to decide but this post definitely helps!
Good luck narrowing it down! 🙂
Amen! Thanks for the help!
I think someone might’ve tried mentioning this before, but in your photos of the product, you show the back of the “Olive” blush instead of “Rain.” I love that you take such highly-detailed photos of the products (multiple angles included), & I think that you have the best swatches available… I cannot imagine the work it requires to do what you do for us.
I don’t know why this image won’t refresh from the cache, so I’ve just removed, but I appreciate you letting me know!! 🙂
This brand has shown that the expensive brands we can get a good product and no need to pay a lot. We are paying for the advertising and their pocketbooks.
It definitely has!
Amen!
It looks really nice on you! Not true to pan, I guess, but it keeps its purple tone I think. This is a great color option for them to add.
Thank you, Ginny!
I rodered this blush from ColourPop last week but I am assuming it will take a while to get to me. So glad that it got great ratings from you and it looks more pink than purple, which is great!
Hope you enjoy it!
Hi Christine!
Between ColourPop Rain and UD Bittersweet, which one do you think stays more purple (versus going more pink) on the cheeks? Or is it that neither/both of them do, but Bittersweet is just a cooler and darker shade of purple…? Thank you!
Neither turns pink on me, but I am warm toned.
I really like this color! I don’t know why but I’ve been drawn to purple blushes lately. They look so beautiful
They are!
Looks great! The label shot says Olive, though.
Fixed, sorry about that!
Can you compare ir with full of joy, MAC. Thanks, it would me awesome if you put a picture 🙂
It’s nothing like Full of Joy – we’re talking almost a white lavender vs. actual purple! You can compare any two swatches you want in the Swatch Gallery – http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery

Those purple cheek colors keep surprising me, so pretty!
Yay!
Hi Christine, I got this one to try to decide if I should try Pansy pop and now Bittersweet. What technique did you find worked best? I used a goat haired brush, my fingers, and Mac’s 189 (I believe the duo fiber cheek). It was pretty hard to get even. It still was a pretty faint on me. Do you think Pansy pop will show-up on me?
Thanks for reviewing this..perfect timing!:)
Hey Nicole,
I use MAC’s 159 a lot with ColourPop’s formula and find that one to work well for me. I don’t have as much luck with the 188/187 from MAC. Fingertips are also excellent if you want more coverage, though.
I think Pansy Pop would show!
It was the #159 I used. I get all those #’s mixed up unless they are in front of me! lol! I’ll try fingertips. I’m glad I only spent $8 on this one because it is one of those that take a little more work than I probably will prefer regularly.Maybe fingertips will solve that. 🙂
I think I may try to pick up Pansy Pop and hen maybe Bittersweet somewhere down the road. It seems purple blushes seem to be making a comeback. 🙂
Doesn’t it? I can’t recall ever seeing so much PURPLE.
Hey Christine,
I have a relatively strong yellow undertone to my face. Do you think this will work for me? I really would love to pull off the purple/lavender blush look!
I think it could! I have moderate yellow tones, and I think I can wear it, but I have to pay more attention to what I put on my eyes/lips.
I have been hearing so many good things about this line and reviews on Temptalia make me want to try them out even more….. I am going to place an order but does any one know if the blushes and eyeshadows can be depotted to add to a z palette? I don’t recall seeing or reading if they could
They’re cream-based, so they will likely dry out if you were to depot them!
I didn’t think about that…. Thank you for your reply
Is this not eye safe? That’s a color I would wear on my eyes rather than my cheeks.
It is a cheek product, so they do not label if it is or isn’t eye safe, since it is only being marketed as a cheek product. It is probably not safe for eyes, given that other purples in similar tones by them are not (like the recently released Daddy in this launch!).
You’re killing me lately lady!
I will pretty much buy any purple blush I find that actually looks lavender on instead of pulling pink.
You’ve posted so many new ones lately and I HAVE to have them all. My poor bank account.
But for realsies, thank you!
No problem, Hanna! Haha, get while the gettin’ is good on purple blush!
Hmmm, this would be in the swatch category for me because it might look a bit funny on top of the Rosacea.
Let me know how it looks for you, Erin!
I was planning on getting Clinique’s Pansy Pop, but now I’m wondering if I should get this instead!
I think it depends on the tone + finish you want!
I can’t decide if I like the looks of this or UD Bittersweet better. I like the price on this better.
I have Pansy Pop and Secret Admirer, but they seem much lighter to me.
They are lighter!
hi
I need to get blushes for my pro kit
can u help me between colorpop, makeupgeek, ben Nye or mac(if u think its worth spending the price difference)…..Im asking in terms of quality…thanks
I think Makeup Geek and MAC would be good. I’m not familiar with Ben Nye, so I can’t weigh in. It depends on the type of makeup you’re doing, but powders are easier to deal with from a sanitary perspective. ColourPop’s are cream, and I think you may find that there’s more waste in digging some out, since it is not a traditional cream product.
I want this too badly. Colourpop, why you have such expensive Canadian shipping?
My guess is they’re paying similar rates to any consumer shipping internationally (sometimes it costs half the value of the prize I’m shipping if it goes internationally, because I have to insure it to avoid getting hit double-time if it goes missing).
Ooh, Girl! I have been wanting this blush since it popped up on their site (j’adore violet!), but I was afraid that this bold color might be too intense for me. It looks so soft & sweet sheeted out on your cheeks, though… SOLD! 😉 Now that you’ve tried both, I’m wondering how you like it in comparison to wearing the Daddy pigment (which I almost ordered as a shadow) on your cheeks (in terms of color)?
FYI, I have placed THREE Colourpop orders after scouring your site for hours (days/weeks, LOL): I finally “pulled the trigger” to take advantage of the 20% off sale you posted about, & then they did a GWP a few days later so they “had me at hello!” 😀 I let them know you sent me!
Nice!! 🙂
Rain is easier to wear than Daddy for me, and I think the texture is a smidgen better with Rain as a blush 🙂
