ColourPop Mermaid Kiss, Ibiza, Kimono, Shameless Super Shock Shadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
ColourPop Mermaid Kiss Super Shock Shadow
ColourPop Mermaid Kiss Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “neon yellow green with a pearlized finish.” It’s a brightened chartreuse green with warm, yellow undertones and a golden shimmer-sheen finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage but has a slightly translucency quality to it. I found it to be buildable to opaque color in two layers patted onto the lid (it seemed more pigmented applied with a brush than fingertip, actually). Once on, it wore well for ten hours without fading or creasing. ColourPop Sour (P, $5.00) is lighter and yellower. Kat Von D Cult (LE) is darker, powder. Make Up For Ever S336 Lime (P, $21.00) is less shimmery. Make Up For Ever ME338 Acidic Green (P, $21.00) is more shimmery. Giorgio Armani #17 (P, $32.00) is darker, power. Fyrinnae Bitey Tyrannosaur (P, $8.25) is darker, powder. Sephora Collection Apple Mojito (06) (P, $13.00) is darker, less shimmery, powder. MAC Lime (P, $15.00) is matte, powder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
ColourPop Ibiza Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “bright turquoise with silver and gold duochrome finish.” It’s a brightened, light-medium aqua teal with cool undertones and gold and silver sparkle. This shade swatched better than it applied, as it seemed to fade as I worked with it on the lid to a duller bluish-teal. It seemed like it had really good color payoff, but it wasn’t as impressive applied–I also didn’t get the duochrome effect they described. How it appeared after the initial application is how it stayed for the next ten hours, so it didn’t fade further, I just wasn’t able to get the intensity of it in the pan/swatch to translate on the lid. There was minor fall out over time. Urban Decay Fringe (P) is darker, bluer, powder. Fyrinnae Gender Bent (P, $6.80) is darker, powder. Milani Teal the Truth (P, $6.99) is greener, powder. Maybelline Edgy Emerald (P, $6.99) is greener. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
ColourPop Kimono Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “bright cobalt blue with silver, blue and violet glitter.” It’s a medium-dark, muted cobalt blue with blue and silver shimmer and glitter. This shade was mostly opaque, but it again had that slight translucency where it seemed a little faded. It was buildable when I used it on the lid, but I wish it was more pigmented right out of the pot. It wore well for ten hours with a small amount of fall out. ColourPop Etiquette (P, $5.00) is darker, powder. Kat Von D Estrella (LE) is darker, powder. Urban Decay Moonshadow (P, $18.00) is darker, powder. Make Up For Ever I218 Indigo Blue (P, $21.00) is darker. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Siren #6 (LE) is purpler. Kat Von D Entombed (P) is darker, powder. Dior Rivage #5 (LE) is brighter, powder. Tarina Tarantino Violet Storm #3 (LE) is brighter, powder. Sephora Collection My Boyfriend’s Jeans (19) (P, $13.00) is darker, powder. MAC Switch to Blue (LE, $21.00) is warmer. Buxom Bulldog (P, $18.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
ColourPop Shameless Super Shock Shadow ($5.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “black drizzled with multiple shades of green [with a metallic finish].” It’s a deep black with emerald green and teal sparkle. It had good color payoff both swatched and applied, but it was a little harder to blend on the skin to really diffuse the edge. It wore well for ten hours without fading or creasing, and it had slight fall out after a few hours of wear. bareMinerals Dazzle (P) is lighter, powder. Sephora Collection Jungle Party (09) (P, $13.00) is greener, powder. Milani Mix It Up (P, $6.99) is lighter, powder. MAC Deep Blue Green (P, $21.00) is slightly lighter, powder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Holy cow that looks AMAZING on you!! I wish I could make that work lol. I love the mermaid kiss swatch (and name!) but I couldn’t figure how to put it into a look! Thank you!
Thank you, Jacqueline!
Gahhh ok I just bought a whole bunch of ColourPop shadows (including Mermaid Kiss) because of your FANTABULOUS review! Thank you so much! Love your website!
Kimono is quite a stunner. I have been really into darker blues recently. There are so many great shadows from Color Pop that I am slightly overwhelmed and don’t know what to pick to place my first order!
It is hard to pick just a few!!
Beautiful eye look! Can’t wait to get my hands on some of these!
Thanks, M!
I am totally fangirling over this eye look right now.
Aw, thanks Ginny!
That is a stunning look on you. I’m definitely going to pick up a few of these.
Thanks, Aline! 🙂
Not my colors, but very pretty if you like bright and sparkly shades. And an awesome deal at $ 5 each
After having good luck with some of the more neutral shades, I had to test some brights!
Mermaid Kiss is stunning! Shameless is also beautiful. I just love that shimmer
Mermaid Kiss is a bright one!
I love how true of a chartreuse shade Mermaid Kiss is. *_*
Very well balance between yellow/green!
Here is the question I always want to know, if you didn’t review products and these were something you were just picking up to add to your collection, would you get them or pass?
I would totally get ColourPop’s eyeshadows – it’s hard to say which shades or how many, because if I wasn’t doing this, I don’t know what job I would have and what I could wear to it or what my income would be – but it’s pretty rare that I buy something I wouldn’t be interested in just to review. I personally love makeup, so I love trying new products, period.
Looking at Mermaid Kiss got me thinking about something I’ve thought about before. How cool would it be if all those eyeshadows like Golden Gaze, Gilt By Association, Unsurpassable, etc. actually applied to the eyelid the way they look in the pan…with the 2 or 3 or more colours sort of marbled through as they are in the pan. Otherwise, to be honest, as much as I like them and have several and love wearing them, in the end, they are really no different from a single coloured eyeshadow that gives the same finished result.
You know, like it seems cool, but then I wonder if it would just look unblended in practice, lol!
I think that’s only because we’re not used to it as an eyeshadow look. It’s like when the first “crackle” nail polishes came out and people thought it was a bad manicure, until they got used to the look. Same with some of the nail wraps in animal prints….weird til you got used to the look. With eyeshadows, something more subtle like Golden Gaze would give a more subdued and “marble” effect while others, with more wacky or contrasting colours would be more extreme. I don’t know that I would actually ever wear a look like that but I’ve often thought, looking at some of MAC’s more intricate mineralized eyeshadows, that while they disappoint when all swirled together, they look so cool and interesting in the pan.
That could be true! I envision it either looking terribly patchy and unblended OR like leopard spots.
I looove the look you created here, Christine!!! I so want it to be summer again already!
Thanks, Sunny!
LOL, so appropriate, given it’s #stormwatch over here!
Chartreuse and blue ^_^ <3
Because I can't help it, I have to admit that I'd like Kimono to be a bit more pigmented, but the colour is beautiful. The look you've done is awesome!
I wish it was richer – it is buildable – but it would be awesome if it was bang-on intense from the beginning!
love the look you created , christine .
i’d be lying if i said i wasn’t instantly drawn to that blue ardency inn liner . it’s beautiful !
It’s a very rich blue! 🙂
I love these and your eye look is gorgeous!
Thanks so much, Sarah!
Oh, wow! That eye look you created is utterly beautiful.
I’m really liking Mermaid Kiss and Kimono. All of them, really, but those two especially.
Thanks a lot, Rachel! 🙂
Gorgeous! I just ordered more colour since they had 20% off some of their sets today. I’ll definitely have to order some brights before spring!
Nice!
Pretty eye look Christine! I’m totally going to try my best to recreate it for tomorrow!! Just lovely!
Thanks, Karen! Hope it goes well 🙂
First of all, the look you created is stunning! Wow girl, on point. Second, I need these in my life. I’m still amazed at the quality for the price!
Aw, thanks Kimmy!
What an exotic eye! I love it
Thank you, Allison!
All these eyeshadows from this brand strike me as being really flat one-dimensional colors without the color complexity that other brands of eye shadow, which give more a sense of depth. I feel like on richer eyeshadow colors, there is more a mix of ingredients that are different colors and you can see all those pigments at once, rather than being chemically unified, do you know what I mean? Haha, I have a hard time explaining. I guess these are just not for me.
I can see that with respect to say Mermaid Kiss, but I don’t see it as much with a shade like Kimono or Shameless. I get what you’re saying, as a brand like Inglot’s eyeshadows are very one-note to me — blue with white or blue shimmer vs. blue with teal and gold shimmer. Some of these are like that, but I thought several were quite complex!
I wasn’t interested in these at all…until I saw the look you created with them together!!! OMG beautiful!!!! I love your colorful eye looks Christine! Gorgeous.
You’re very sweet! Thank you, Bonnie!
do these work well with other powder eyeshadows, or do they only blend/apply well on top of other creams?
I’ve only worn them together!
These do work well with other traditional powder eyeshadows, I always use colourpop with any of my powder eyeshadows, they pair and blend effortlessly. 🙂
I mix colourpop shades with all my other shadows constantly and they blend so well together. Since they go from cream to powder it works very well.
been waiting for good reviews for colourpop! i have some coming in the mail saturday. so excited!
Ooh, which ones?
OHMERGAWD… Shameless is AMAZING!
Yay! glad ya liked it, Erin!
Shameless is sooo gorgeous! That said, I think it’ll still be a skip for me… I have a few shadows/palettes on my wishlist already, and after those, I need to slow down for a while. Besides, Shameless looks close enough to the Gucci Westman/Revlon shadow that came out this Fall, and as much of a sucker I am for a blackened color, I just can’t justify it ATM…
Hopefully these will be around for awhile, so… no rush.
Wish they deliver internationally! Some of their eyeshadows and Lippie Stix’es are too good to be true!
I hope they increase distribution soon!
Love the look you put together with these colors! It makes me want them all just so I can attempt it. 🙂
Thanks, Lacey!
OMG It’s only 5 dollars!!! These colors look great!! And I’m obsessed with that eye look!! O.O !!! Ok, I’m done.
They’re very wallet-friendly!
i’ve been hearing so many good things about these shock shadows! the swatches are gorgeous as well as the look you created with them. i hope i can get my hands on some of these soon!
Thanks Amara! 🙂
I noticed that you specified that some of the dupes for these are powder; what form are these eyeshadows? They look like powder. Sorry if u indicated this else where.
These are cream eyeshadows 🙂 They are considered a cream-powder hybrid, but these feel more like creams than powders. The brand even takes great pains to tell you to keep lids on tight and don’t leave them open for long – aka they will dry out if you do. They’re like Chanel Illusion d’Ombres, Dior Diorshow Fusion Monos, Buxom Stay There, MAC Electric Cool.
Ah! I understand. Thank you.
That is an amazing look on you! I am in awe, I really wasn’t sure when looking at the colors initially how they would look on, I haven’t been that comfortable with bright colors until recently trying to get out of my rut, and yet looking at what you have done with these is so inspiring! After a recent post on here about how to get out of a makeup rut, I have been challenging myself to experiment with more colors and brighter colors than I would typically use. I buy them, but never seem to get adventurous enough to wear them out. I have been branching out a little, pushing my limits with wearing colors that I normally just wouldn’t wear, and I can’t believe the compliments that I have gotten this week! It definitely encourages me to bust out of that rut and try some shades like these, although Mermaid Kiss is probably still going to be outside my comfort zone. Thanks for the inspiration!
I’m so glad that readers could help you try some different shades (especially since you already had them)!
Maybe try a shade like Mermaid Kiss blended with a blue eyeliner? I find it brightens but is a “tamer” way to wear it! 🙂
I love how Mermaid Kiss blends and turns out! So pretty <3
It is a pretty shade!
I’m seriously lusting after these, but it makes me so sad to know that they don’t ship internationally yet. Here in India, the makeup options are REALLY limited and I want ALL of them! they’re so beautiful and I LOVE the look you’ve created with them. 🙂
I really hope they start shipping internationally soon!
This look you’ve created is WOW! It really makes me want to wear more brights..you always manage to make them look wearable somehow. 😉
Thank you, Jackie 😀 I try! I feel like that’s “my thing” – more wearable but not necessarily just neutral!
Fist of all, I love this look, amazing! I’m wearing Kimono today and I did find that I had to build it up a little more as opposed to other shades, but I still think it looks really pretty. Ibiza was on my list for a 3rd order, but I’m a little dissapointed that it doesn’t translate as gorgeous as the swatch does. I’ll still get it anyway 😛
Thank you so much, Jessy! 🙂
I’m hauling some of these soon! The make up look you created looks amazing!
Thank you! 😀
