Locket Down

ColourPop Locket Down 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($14.00 for 0.32 oz.) is a new, limited edition taupe-and-berry themed color story. It included five matte eyeshadows, three shimmery eyeshadows, and one pressed glitter shade. The matte eyeshadows performed well overall with a couple of shades being a little powdery, while the shimmers were on the drier side overall. The glitter was sheerer and drier, so it was hard to work with and had a fair amount of fallout/migration.

Momento

Momento has a transparent base full of pale lavender and cooler pink glitter and sparkle. It had semi-sheer to medium coverage with a slightly drier consistency, though there was some slip to it that helped the particles adhere to bare skin. There was fallout during application/blending, and then there was visible migration of the glitter particles after six hours of wear. This shade included plastic (PET) glitter, so it is not intended for use around the eye area.

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Off Key

Off Key is a light, rosy mauve with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was smooth, velvety, and a little powdery, but it had enough weight to it to apply without fallout and still have full color coverage in one layer. It lasted well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Pave

Pave is a light pink with cooler undertones and a frosted finish. The texture seemed on the drier side, which translated to a more frosted finish that wasn’t as smooth or as shiny as the brand’s shimmers typically are. It had opaque color coverage that wore well for eight hours on me.

Open Book

Open Book is a light taupe-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, somewhat powdery texture, but it was finely-milled, blendable, and weighted to prevent fallout during application and blending. It stayed on well for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

Togetherness

Togetherness is a rich, medium-dark berry with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which applied beautifully to bare skin with an even application of color that diffused well along the edges. This shade lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Noted

Noted is a muted, light-medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and barely-there micro-sparkle over a matte finish. It had rich color payoff paired with a soft, somewhat powdery texture, so there was light fallout when initially placed on the eye (even with care), but it was blendable and wasn’t prone to sheering out too readily. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Keepsake

Keepsake is a vivid, medium-dark purple with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was slightly powdery in the pan, but it had good adhesion and blendability on my skin; you’ll just want to use a lighter hand when initially grabbing color to avoid fallout. It had opaque pigmentation that stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours and left a stain behind.

These Chains

These Chains is a light, pinky-plum with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The eyeshadow was thinner and a little drier, so there was fallout during application and a tendency for the shimmer to look somewhat faded after a few minutes of wear. It had mostly opaque color coverage, but it appeared faded within six hours of wear.

I actually love the color story here and though it isn’t anything unique in this day of pink and red shadows, they look great together. I was thinking that I wished a couple of the shadows were sold individually because they are beautiful and actually scored the A’s in the palette but the stinker shades are not good so then I was thinking I would pass. Then I remembered that the ColourPop palettes are like $14 and I have paid that much for an individual shadow from other companies, so maybe I am going for it.

I thought the same thing, except that I would never use the magenta/berry shadows unless I used them for eyeliner (I’m always trying to find a color to make my yellow/green eyes look more green}. If Off Key, Open Book & Noted are the shades that interest you, the ColourPop 9-pan palette “Making Mauves” would serve you better. I usually use it at least once a week.
I’m very sad that Momento scored so poorly. To me, it’s reminiscent the lightest color in their Blush palette.
