ColourPop Just My Luck Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Just My Luck
ColourPop Just My Luck 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($12.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new, permanent (!) green-themed palette that the brand specifically created without “teal” or “brown” — all green, you know? I think the palette is better thought of as a complementary palette; it’s for someone who either loves greens and sees the nuance between every shade or wants to add green to their line-up and be done in an instant. To that end, I decided to show the palette in two ways: a cooler-toned look and a warmer-toned look. You’ll likely want to add-in your go-to brow bone highlighter and perhaps a few favorite transition shades, depending on the look you’re going for.
Most of the shades were pigmented, blendable, long-wearing, and easy to work with–and there was a good range of depth, undertone, and finish. The only shade that gave me trouble as Act Natural, which was a little thinner in texture and took longer to spread and blend out than the other shades but was workable.
It actually had more similarity to Melt’s Smoke Sessions than I would have thought off-hand, but ColourPop’s take includes more mattes and has more mid-tones, which gives this palette a lighter feel in comparison (I did a similar cool-toned/warm-toned take with Smoke Sessions here, which shows how much darker, smokier Smoke Sessions turns out).

Chances Are
Chances Are is a light green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the texture was soft, velvety and smooth with a touch of powderiness in the pan but not enough that it was prone to fallout when blended out on my skin. This shade adhered well to bare skin and lasted nicely for eight hours on me before it started to show signs of fading.

Formula Overview
$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce
The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.
The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Kiss My Hass
Kiss My Hass is a rich, medium green with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. The texture was slightly powdery in the pan, and there was a touch of fallout during application if I wasn’t careful. While it had opaque color payoff and didn’t sheer out too readily, it was almost “too pigmented” in the sense that it was easy to spread the eyeshadow out further than intended as it was quite blendable–more a lesson learned than anything else. It wore beautifully for eight and a half hours before it started to look faded.

50-50
50-50 is a medium, grassy green with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that built up to full coverage with less than half of a layer more. The texture was lightly creamy, emollient without being too thick or too densely-packed in the pan, and applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even application. it stayed on well for eight hours before fading slightly.

Big Banks
Big Banks is a brighter, light-medium emerald green with subtle, cool undertones and warmer golden sparkle over a metallic finish. It had rich pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that felt emollient without being too thick. The eyeshadow picked up well with a brush and deposited evenly to my lid, while the edges were easy to diffuse with my brush. It lasted well for eight and a half hours on me before I noticed faint creasing.

Mary Jane
Mary Jane is a bright, very yellow-leaning chartreuse with a sparkling, metallic finish. It looked greener when surrounded with richer greens, though on its own, it was definitely quite yellow-based. The consistency was more loosely-pressed compared to the other shades, so it felt softer and gave a bit more, but it had some slip and seemed to adhere and combine well when pressed and patted onto my lid. There was slight fading apparent after eight hours of wear.

Act Natural
Act Natural is a medium-dark green with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff with a firmer, slightly stiff consistency that picked up well with a brush but was harder to diffuse and spread out on my skin. It was improved over a primer but still took noticeably more effort to blend out overall. This shade lasted nicely for eight and a half hours on me before fading visibly.

Mo Bamba
Mo Bamba is a deep green with subtle, warm undertones and a smattering of micro-sparkles over a matte finish. In practice, it was more matte than shimmery as few of the sparkles translated onto my lid (especially once I blended this shade out!). The texture was soft, slightly dusty, and it sheered out a touch as I worked with it. The eyeshadow was mostly opaque but needed a little extra on top to be fully opaque when applied. It wore well for eight hours before it started to fade on me.

Charmed is a deep, olive green with muted, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. There were those very fine, barely visible micro-shimmers strewn throughout but not enough to make it appear anything other than matte to my eye in practice. The pigmentation was opaque in a single and stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before it showed signs of fading.

Oh my god your look is STUNNING! HOLY! SOLD!!!!
Wow, I’m very excited to see it did so well! Thank you for the uber fast review! Definitely don’t mind giving my money to Colourpop for this one. Ordered it as soon as it came out but it hasn’t shipped yet…probably because I ordered a dark green eyeliner, too. Can’t wait to pair this with my other colorful palettes…I ended up getting Coy and Soleil and have It’s My Pleasure. Think purples and pinks and greens could go well together?
Both of your eye looks are gorgeous. This looks like a wonderful palette: Better and cheaper than the Huda version, and comparable enough to Smoke Sessions to make me feel better about missing out on it.
I knew when I first saw this that it was likely to review better than the Huda palette just based on my experience with the two brands. I love the eye looks you were able to get with the palette but I am still lusting after that Smoke Sessions palette. Also, just because it is a green based palette why throw the obligatory “Mary Jane” into the names! I probably will pick this up at some point but I can make the Huda palette work for now.
Thank you so much Christine for reviewing this palette so quickly – just in time for St. Patrick’s Day!
It is a lovely green themed palette, and as you have said, lighter than the Smoke Sessions palette. And even though I am a green eyeshadow lover, I find that quite a few of these shades would not suit me as they are too light and too many mattes I wouldn’t use.
I think this palette has rated really well and I love your eye looks.
Oh man, I love this palette! ???
….however, I have Huda Emerald palette and fully intend on getting Coloured Raine Safari Raine, plus MAC Lucky Green, Jealousy Wakes and UD Dragon, so I may not need this?
Christine, I especially love your warm green eye look. I am so tempted to buy this, but I honestly don’t need it. It’s just so pretty! (And affordable!)
WOW! Kudos to Colourpop for a true green palette at an affordable price! Christine, your looks give a great idea at how versatile this palette can be!
Christine, girl! As soon as I saw this palette, I immediately thought, “omg, Christine is going to love this.” You must have a bit of luck going for you – I know how long you have wanted to see a green-featured palette! The looks you created are a green dream.
My Smoke Sessions palette has been such a disappointment because the shimmer shades have risen and puffed out of the pans. Every time I open the palette, more and more of the shimmer shadows are stuck on the mirror. It’s still usable but…still. I know a lot of people have had that problem with SS and Melt really hasn’t addressed it. They just send replacements that have the same issue.
Thank you for the swatches, Christine 🙂
I almost bought this immediately upon release, and I never do that kind of thing. I’m glad I didn’t because I’m looking for more olive/mustardy greens. I’m happy to see this palette preformed well, and that it’s permanent. I’m just not a huge fan of the cool toned green look, it kinda reminds me of the light blue eyeshadow + frosted lipstick look of yore. Maybe since it’s perm I will change my mind and try it someday, but I’m holding out for a restock of Smoke Sessions.
I can’t see myself actually using this palette enough to justify purchasing it and making space for it, but WOW some of these colors are absolutely beautiful. I might have to make some room in my singles palette to bring in some greens.
Just a bit too green for me! And I really am liking green lately. I definitely like Mary Jane, 50-50, MO mama and Olive U, but the others are just soooooo green (perhaps too cool).
